- Unboxing and first tests. Apparently there is no afectation when taping on the coil. It shows up the same SWR in the meter...
I did the 30 feet coax choke and placed the ground wire just as described.
I had to resolder the tuning clip. Btw, the telescopic antenna was not really stright on arrival...
PROBLEM FIXED
Coax was shorted near the ground nut. Too much heat on the plastic. Now it behaves as described. In no time antenna was tuning fine and I am already making 800km contacts

Hello, I think theres somethiing missing. Was The Counterpoise Connected? The Whip has to be fully out, and a Coil put in the coax. . . GoodLuck
KEYSTONE223mobile there was a short on the coax connection on yhe the coil! Now it is fine

I had one of these and never did get it to work. Ended up returning it to HRO. In my experience, MFJ gear often suffers from QC issues.

Yeah, I think that this kind of antenna are made for desperate situations. Physics Is not an option. If the wave lenght requires 10, 20, 40 meters of wire, all other solutions are compromises. You can tune even a balcony rail but you Will not radiate at all. Good luck!
Hola, me regaló esta antena un amigo mío aficionado que no tiene la paciencia para usarla (ajuste la longitud del contrapeso, seleccione la bobina correcta con la pinza de cocodrilo para sintonizar la SWR). Las instrucciones dicen que el alambre de contrapeso debe ser 1/4 de onda de la banda en uso, el alambre restante debe ser recogido en un carrete. ¿Es posible hacer muchos contrapesos de 1/4 de onda y conectarlos todos juntos al Barrette? Me gustaría preparar muchos cables de 1/4 de onda para 40m, 20m, 15m, 11m y 10m, pero si es posible me gustaría conectarlos todos juntos al terminal en vez de montar uno en cada cambio de banda. Para montarlo en exteriores se puede pintar el stylus? Me gustaría protegerlo del agua de lluvia. lo mismo para la bobina: me gustaria encontrar los puntos de afinacion correctos y luego hacer pines con un interruptor externo y cerrar la bobina dentro de una caja estanca para aislar la bobina del agua de lluvia y actuar desde el exterior del interruptor al cambio de musical grupo.

Nunca vas a poder marcar puntos precisos de ajuste o sintonía. Al ser una antena que va sobre superficies dependerá mucho de los materiales del entorno. Igual que los radiales que pongas. Se supone que se pone un contrapeso, pero comoneste posicionado influye en si. Casi influye mas en la sintonía el cómo pones el contrapeso que la longitud. Yo hice pruebas a moverlo para hacer un ajuste fino y lograba mejorar la roe. Es lo que es, una antena de compromiso. Si la dejas en un lugar fijo es posible que puedas encintrar esos puntos de ajuste “fijo” pero incluso como muerde la pinza influye…
@@Radiogenes ok entiendo el problema de la pinza y los puntos de sintonia en la bobina, pero es posible poner mas contrapesos de diferentes cuartos de onda? Vivo en el 3er piso y podría dejarlos colgados verticalmente de la barandilla del balcón.
@@maxastuto pruébalo. Lo fácil es seguir el manual. Si te va mejor eso que enrollar el resto que sobra perfecto. Haz las pruebas y nos dices
Hi, I have a metal grill covered balcony and I have to externally mount MFJ1622 window Antenna. First step: trying to tune 7.75 MHz to minimum SWR. 35 Ft. of coax coiled leaving 15 straight. Counterpoise coil grounded @ different levels. However unable to match good SWR. Can anyone suggest. Tnx.73

J'ai à peu près la même chose avec Buddistick ... mon analyseur AA20 donnait le même résultat
par contre la MFJ 1899 T se règle très bien et donne des résulats surprenants pour faire du Dx

I hate to criticize MFJ too much since they do make some neat radio accessories others do not or you have to find the time to build yourself. However, it is always hit or miss what you order from them. Will it work? -or will cold solder joints be present? Many of their manuals or instructions are unclear. I do have to say though, MFJ does have a good one year warranty. I just don't like that I have to use their warranties on items I purchase a little too often.
Have never heard anything good about these antennas. One HAM suggested a wire coat hanger and a good tuner instead of the MFJ-1622...lol!
Did you ever get the SWR down? Seems like it was always really high.
Yes, there was a bad soldering. After that i managed to get it working. You do need the counterpoise to get some bands tuned
