idk abt others but for clay, i use water to smooth the clay out
Yea me too
Same
Ya same
Well i litteraly don't even specialise in sculpting and i only do it for art class when we have it like twice a year but i do know that you should always sculpt from one ball of clay and not bits cause it'll break, you should knead clay before you use it becouse it's too stiff (also use water for that) and for smoothing you should drag the clay around a bit and them dip your finger in water and smooth it, this is common knowledge lol
felili same
Gotta cover up all the Nooks And Crannys...

t o k y o p l a y z and you can score it then use water to put two pieces of clay together
Exactly!! That’s what I was trying to tell him but he can’t hear me through the screen 🤣
I was getting so irritated when he wasn’t applying water to smooth it out and glue the parts together (I still love you Frederic 🥰)
i was wanting to say this so bad but seeing a lack of other people say this made me think he would find out later in the video
IKR I'm glad I wasn't the only person who thought that!
If you end up using clay again, I have a tip for putting pieces together! before you use slip (the water and clay mixture) you need to carve little cross hatches into the sides you're putting together first. That way the slip can fill those gaps and it can stick together and stay together! Hope this helps! :)
SLIP AND SCORE OMG THATS HOW YOU ATTACH STUFF THIS IS PAINFUL ITS SCULPTED WELL BUT OMG THE WAY YOU ATTACHED THEM GAVE ME A STROKE okay I’m done my tantrum now but srsly slip and score.

oh god....
YOU NEED TO SCORE THE CLAY TO ATTACH STUFF AND APPLY WATER (don’t trust the water part i’ve never used air dry clay)
no hate:)
I was thinking the whole time why doesn’t he just score it?
What do you mean by "score"? I dont know if it's because english is not my first language or because I'm dumb, but I have no idea what you mean
Erufin by score, they mean to make a bunch of lines where u want to attach the clay, cause the grooves of the indents helps the clay stick to each other better. Sry if this doesn’t make sense 😅
@@end_orfino scoring is when you cause cuts on the ends you are attaching and use slip (clay and water mixed) to keep the different pieces attached and make them more sturdy.
Aa, i see now!!! Thanks!!
Everybody must now pronounce "Gesso" the way that Frederic does.

Faceless Bureaucrat forgetting everything we learned in 4th grade art class is a mood
in the future, use aluminum foil to make a "skeleton" and cover that with an outer layer of clay. not only does it save you clay, but it makes each piece a lot less heavy. :)
I've made some really crappy sculptures when I was younger with air dry clay. The best tip I can give, is to just water. Yes you heard me. WATER. Water is literally your savior. Smooths out the cracks and makes the clay easier to mold.
H20 : Add water
Also wire and aluminum foil structure to not waste THAT much clay
Can I still paint over it? Because I’m doing a little statue for my friends that I need to paint
@@Agaricat-z3p yeah you can still paint over it. Just let it fully dry out first.

Wait really tho
And yes, I find myself hilarious
Homework break no lmao
Theo Greene ahha yeah I finished watching the video and thought man I'm dum
Anyway nice
some tips for anyone that wants to do this
- if you want it to be smooth you can either use a bit of water or just sand the finished product
- if you want to stick 2 pieces together score a Crisscross pattern on both pieces where you want it to attach and add a bit of water to each side and slap em' together
- you can use other things like tin foil as a base so you don't end up wasting clay and you save money
- you can use metal wire as well to create the shape and keep your clay straight so it doesn't fall over
- use thin metal wire to cut chunks of clay
(I'm not in any means a good or a professional artist so hopefully, this is actually useful lol :D )
“let me see what you have?”
“a knife!”
“NO-“
patheticpieceofgarbage you are not garbage.
if you want to do another clay project, i recommend that you use skewers to hold up the pieces. like with the leaf-balls and the root pieces. i also would recommend you use tinfoil inside large pieces for structure. for example on the leaf-balls, you could create a ball of tinfoil and just wrap the clay around it. this would make the entire thing a lot lighter. :) thank you for your time
You won against the Try Guys by 8 seconds so I’ll watch you first 😂💜
Tip: put plastic wrap between the cookie cutter and the clay and you’ll get a much softer smoother edge

Some more little tips because I’ve worked with clay and honey you did great but you deserve to be more prepared should you do this again:
-To attach things, scratch and attach. Make a crisscross on both of the places you want to be attached, apply some water (works for air-dry too!) and then smooth it out. This scratching will ensure they stay and when you bake the clay, it doesn’t just... fall off.
-To smooth things, I recommend using some water and either your fingers or a paintbrush! It makes the attachments very seamless and noice.
-If you’re working with actual clay, make said clay hollow. Make a little hole so it doesn’t fucking explode in the oven. This will also help you not waste clay, and a huge ass chunk is not only heavy but takes so much longer to bake. Plus, any little holes you didn’t get out.. will expand and fucking explode.
Hope this helps? Happy crossing idiots! 💕
9:05 "if I put the balls in that area, they are gonna fall"
Me in my head: so... The balls are gonna drop...
tip, you have to wet and score clay parts to stick them together. its called the Frankenstein method i believe.
the amount of memes in the first 5 min alone is killing me, i am l i v i n g.
this was so contradictory yet i regret nothing
Frederic, next time you work with clay, I highly advise to use a canvas sheet or old towel to cover the surface of your workspace so you don't spend another hour scraping dried clay bits off your desk.
Also, if you scrape the edges (scoring) of your piece, you can attach the pieces together and use the water to blend it. Also, use a damp sponge to smooth everything over.
"I think my frustration and impatience came out *like my sexuality* "

" :o I JABBED IT, OH NOO D:" the tone was too cute
the paste you made is called slip, you're supposed to make it by wetting the surface of bone dry clay (meaning the clay has to be entirely dry, and solid, clay flakes work too) and it makes a soft pudding like consistency of paste that you can easily transfer. If you use partially dry clay, then it will create a paste that is chunky or just has a lot of small stiff areas among the smooth paste mixture. Also, a way to smooth out an area is to scratch small lines across the creases, then add a tiny bit of water to your finger and blend it out. This is just one technique. im sure there are others, much love Frederic!!
Bruh I love when he said, “Is this as bad as... no nothings worse then that.”
For future creations, you can get a small cup of water and using your finger gently rub a little bit of water over the cracks. Be sure to do this before it fully dries
Where’s the broke squad who can’t afford a switch but want ACNH so bad ;-;
also quick clay tip for next time: use water to smooth out cracks and bumps and to stick pieces of clay together

this made me thankful for taking my grandmas clayworking class, fredric did really well with the knowledge he had but two simple things, etch marks in the two sides of what you want to stick together and add a small amount of water, push in then use the gradient method, use water to smoothen or loosen clay if its too stiff, it gets messy lmao

If I stare at all the ‘NOOKS AND CRANNIES’ animal crossing reference.
Hey next time you work with clay, use crumpled up foil inside large bulky shapes! It makes sure it dries fully and can give rigidity to your project while keeping it lighter. Also you'll be able to use less clay overall :)

If you intend to use that clay again, you can put some water on the tip of your finger to smooth the cracks.I haven’t tried this myself but I have seen that from multiple people.Hope this helps :)
i just clicked on this video but im praying to the art gods that this doesn't end up like the minecraft painting lmao
Congrats on 600k! ❤️
yess this made my day
If you plan on using clay again, I recommend using a metal and tinfoil skeleton so it prevents your sculpture from collapsing and you use less clay so you get more out of a huge tub.
Bai loves to be like: “you’re mine”
Like no luvv I’m in debt I belong to Tom nook
To cover and smooth over small cracks dip you finger in water and rub where your trying to smooth out. Also To attach pieces, use a sharper tool and make thin cuts/grooves in the clay on the piece that you are attaching and the piece that you are attaching it to. After you make the cuts also add a small bit of water to both pieces as well. Making the small cuts gives both pieces something to dry into if that makes sense. Also make sure to press them together kinda firmly to make sure they stay attached well.
me: Smirks at the fact that the entire comment section will be an argument about how to pronounce gesso

Tom nook stole my bells, so I scared his children :)
To attach things, it helps to cut little vertical lines down the part that is going to be attached and the part it’s going on to. These ridges connect onto each other and hold on tight. Before attaching them tho, add some clay water.
Hun I can’t stop thinking about this... I just gotta say it... whenever I look at you... you remind me of Raymond aha
