    LOL! Controversial? This is the best series by far! Buying the train and the 2 castle sets. We don't need more castles. We need sets for a village and this is a seaside port. Lego has never made one before.

      Agree!!!! I'm on the fence about the boat, but I'll order 2 copies of the train and each of the castle sets. I'll probably also have my kids order 1-2 extra siege encampments for me (you need a large siege camp).

      See, I think you're proving my point that it's controversial! Some people are saying that this is the best wave, others are saying it's the "Castle Designer Program" and then others in the middle. Regardless, I'm glad to be saving some money, but also equally as glad for those that are pumped about this wave!

      Agreed 100%. Not sure why so many people are complaining. We have three beautiful sets (train, market, and seige). If you're a castle fan, the seige encampment is a must because it compliments all castle sets. Can't have a seige without it.

      @@cpafoltechnically every series is controversial but this is far from the most. Historically, castle themes sell very quickly… like we are talking within hours and I don’t see this series being any different. Also, like someone mentioned above, it’s not another castle we’re getting but sets that complement them which is missing up till this point. Then we have the locomotive set which draws both train and western fans. If the remaining two sets would be replaced with a food truck and nature themed, this would have been the most all around series.

    Seige Encampment: I don't see how anyone can be a castle fan and not purchase this. It's the accessory kit that compliments every castle. I will be purchasing 2x
    Seaside Market: The new revision looks way better than the original submission. Will be purchasing 1x, maybe 2x copies.
    Train: This set looks great. Will purchase 2x for sure and combine them for a massive moc.
    ..... the other two I really don't care for.

      The designs are actually chosen by the Fans! With some judgmental decisions made so that every set isn't 4,000 parts and a castle (because that's what the fans typically vote for haha).
      But there are some upcoming waves with cheaper sets! It'll be fun to see how those prices pan out.

    I'm by no means a Castle fan either but out of this wave the Seaside Market would be the one I would go for. Also can't deny the beauty of the Siege Encampment next to other existing sets, thankfully for my wallet I'm not a Castle fan otherwise I'd be cooked 😅
    Also you make a great pointy about how different these look with lighting as opposed to renders! So much more appealing to me too

      Medieval Seaside Market does have that certain simple charm; more reminiscent to something that might actually end up on LEGO shelves honestly! My wallet is also glad😅
      Not only the real photos make a difference, but seeing the in person reviews does so much more to let us know what the final design will actually look like! Oftentimes sets being a ton bigger in person than I would have ever expected, and normally the price justified.

  • @jacobe1942
    @jacobe1942 9 днів тому +1

    Oh, I think the controversy should be that this siege engine kit is made to go with a very popular set the Lions knight castle. Which I am sure more than 30,000 copies have been sold. more like a million. So few will get to build on that experience. Something like this should have been upgraded to an ideas set. I do not like seeing this advertised with the castle knowing I wont get it because even though it may be well designed, the minis are more of the same and even a bit weird and overall its over priced for not having any special pieces or RND for LEGO. The whole set represents what castle fans have wanted all along which is several small builds/ battle packs. Which is this like 4-5 of.... Castle is so hot right now and it seems castle is just a subtheme of bricklink designers program, that really should be put to better use on more artful things instead of LEGO IP. The Docks are another great Idea but its too much build and not enough boat for me. It needs a decent sized Kogg. The Train though is quite interesting... looks like a lot of fun.

    • @cpafol
      @cpafol  День тому +2

      I appreciate your deep dive thoughts on these sets! And agree for the most part, although LEGO will likely never bring back Castle because the kiddos aren't into LEGO Castle at all nowadays. That being said, the 18+ series should be ripe for them!
      For the time being, Bricklink and LEGO are very separate in many respects, and the only thing LEGO can do is say "No, don't make that because we are going to eventually make it". Otherwise, Bricklink does its own thing. It'll be interesting if LEGO ever does take some hints from the BDP on future sets.

      @@cpafol Kids aren't into castle anymore? I disagree. how is that even tested? All castle sets today are geared to adults, at high price tags, GWP scarcity, or CMF unbalances, and even getting one fig with no context is not going to be much. Kids have little access to the market, and it crumbled when castle got too weird instead of just doing more along the lines like they are now with more city life0. So many themes are based on medieval/ fantasy IP that closely relate. I think the difference here is what is being stolen from children is the imagination. Yes, because IP sets recreate scenes and naturally those scenes are reenacted in play. Whereas the classic themes as children gave us almost no back story to any faction. The stories were pure and (speaking in hyperbolic) more inventive. Characters needed their own forging. If I were a parent today I would be focusing my attention to that. Ironically as a kid building Star Wars x-wings our of city parts to now sometimes take IP parts made into castle. There is room for both of course, I get excited for Star wars fans unveilings, the Jabbas sail barge was almost enough to get me to buy! its just super awesome sets like this should be more accessible as I pretty much want to steer clear from that other system that makes basic bricks collectors items because its trapped in a box. It has many problems.... but that is for another time. Peace. ty for discussing

    • @cpafol
      @cpafol  День тому +1

      @@jacobe1942 Unfortunately kids don't have to have as much imagination now as when they used to "back in the day". Show a kid a brown and grey castle set or show them a bright vibrant Ninjago set. We both know which one they're choosing. LEGO has tested this themselves and it's evident through what we see on shelves. Adults are the main consumers buying castle so that is who they are gearing any castle towards.
      I didn't have a smart phone until I was in college; kids nowadays are getting one at 10 or less. No need for imagination when you have that. Whether anyone likes it or not, it's the way of the world: bright, vibrant, and flashy sells.

      @@cpafol A parents job is to know better.... A lions knight castle is a full story in a box for all ages and sexes and is timeless. It is big beautiful, vibrant. Ninjago is not Star Wars but still a recognizable show and characters to most and has a full range of sets from $5 dollars to $400ish. Castle has none of that. Lions knight castle is worthy as a legacy heirloom... Yeah I do not like that direction... and it does not have to be that way, kids and adults would like smaller sets of battle packs that could have made this siege encampment. There is tons of fun in these sets. and LEGO makes some very questionable stuff that it aught to do its classic lines right.

    I‘m a huge castle fan. So I really like the Medieval Seaside market and will most likely get it. Originally i wanted to pass on the Siege Encampment because it was missing Minifigs and did not really catch me. Now I am still not a 100% sure. I like that the hugely increased the number of Minifigs but the price I don’t know. Let’s see. I got my self the medieval town square for Christmas and the Forest Stronghold will arrive in March. Also Series 5 with the adventures in Transylvania set will be a sure buy for me, and I expect this to come in at 350 to 400 EURO also in series 6 the Wolfpack set will be a sure buy that will also be in the 200 to 300 EURO range so already a quite expensive year. And there is also this creator 3 in 1 dragon and maybe the new castle that will come out in Summer. My bank account is already crying and I am running out of shelf space to be honest.

    I think you are judging castle sets too harshly. They don't have to be creative, they just have to work. I for one LOVE the 2 in this series (especially since they are not $400 ).
    I would rather have castle in the normal LEGO offering, but that's not the cast atm. These sets here are really NEEDED.
    And yes, it does help to have the sets intertwin with things I already have. I got 5 Lion Knights castles just because I saw LEGO didn't do anything relevant so I said might as well get the one set they made well. If they would sell an entire series of village pieces, towers, extra stables and god knows what that go around the HUGE castle, I would clearly be more likely to buy them. However, the factions being the old 90s factions, that's what are selling these for me (and of course the fact that the redesigns are GREAT ) .

    • @cpafol
      @cpafol  15 днів тому +2

      I can certainly agree that I am being quite harsh on these castles because I'm not a huge castle person myself, but that being said, I LOVED the Mountain Fortress as it was super creative and had an amazing design and footprint. The two in this series didn't strike me as such.
      We'll see if LEGO can take some notes from the BDP and bring some castles to the fans! The only main people is that it's by and large the ADULT fans that love the castle, but the kids not so much /: And we all know that the kids (or adults buying for kids) are the consumers that drive the sales!

      @@cpafol They seem to have an AFOL market as well. there are more and more AFOL sets coming out. They just need to stop making mistakes (for example the blacktron renegade is perfect ... the town square had so many stickers, it's not even funny .... they seem to think people who pay 100-200-500 euro on a set want stickers ... )
      Regardless, these sets are really good and important. You can't have only huge castles - although those seem to be the most popular.. These 2 in series 4 are cheaper and even if the port is less fancy, I like what it does - something new for castle. The siege camp should have been a normal series of sets, each item their own little set so you can buy as many as you like: Trebuchet x2, Siege tower x3, cooking camp x1 , big tent x3, small tent x10, and a small battlepack with the anti cavalery spikes to get 100 of. Still, this here is better than not having it at all, and people keep voting for these because they don't have alternatives. Just look at which ones actually sell out the quickest or at all.

      I answered this in another comment so I will copy/paste my comment here to explain!
      "It is quite well know and communicated by Bricklink that they choose only ONE design from each category for each Series. That is until this series. So no, it's not controversial because I'm not a castle fan; it's controversial because the BDP contradicted its own stated guidelines with this series.
      Now, since my initial video, I have had various conversations with Bricklink reps to understand why they made that decision and now fully understand why it had to be done and how it was reasonable. However, not everyone has had those conversations which is why this Series is still looked at as controversial by the broader community.
      Hope this helps as to why I denoted this Series as controversial and not just trying to say that because, "I didn't like the designs"."

    How having 2 castle set in Bricklink Designer Program controversial? How many us castle fans have new castle set in a year from Lego? 1? or 2 at most. And how many new sets, other Lego themes did Lego introduce? City probably have more than 20 new set this month only, Starwars, marvel/disney also has a ton of new sets this month only. BDP is the only way we get new castle set outside of only 1 new official Lego set per year. The closest to castle set, is Lord of the Rings set which usually only have 1 ultra expensive set every year. There are a lot castle fan, yet there are not many option from Lego official sets 😓

    • @cpafol
      @cpafol  13 днів тому +2

      As mentioned in another reply, it is controversial because the BDP's own guidelines state, and it is widely communicated, that they will always choose only ONE design from each Series. This Series saw two designs chosen from one category. Hence the controversy. Since my video 9 months ago, I have had various conversations with Bricklink reps and understood why they made that decision and how it was reasonable. However, the broader community hasn't had those discussions so this Series still has some controversy for many.
      As far as comparing the BDP to LEGO retail sets, that's not an apples to apples comparison. If you look at Castle as a whole, any LEGO fan has had many, many offerings over the past 5 years with more, no doubt, to come. Is there a castle theme out there? No. Why you ask? Simple! Kids don't want castle anymore. So while us BIONICLE fans are starving over here, the Castle/Train fans are eating quite well comparatively.
      Hope that explanation helps!
