Losing your imagination is a real thing, I used to make up stories for my builds and take them apart to build new things, nowadays I build something and immediately display it.
Boredom hardly exists anymore. We're now hooked by instant access to a constant flow of content. We're more rewarded for consuming than we are creating. Best thing you can do is use the internet as a tool rather than a place to live vicariously through.
I feel that. I get confused when people place so much emphasis on things like accuracy to the point I wonder why they'd WANT it to be lego when a more realistic model kit or action figure could better serve such ends than Lego can reasonably be expected to. My favorite licensed themes are the ones where Lego goes ham with their own weird designs, like The Lego Batman Movie line. I want to see something only LEGO can do. As for their original themes, I often have to come up with my own story because official media is... hit or miss. Like, the more I watch the DreamzzZ show, the harder it is for me to enjoy the sets, so I have to IGNORE canon and make my own more enjoyable headcanon. But hey, at least I'm using my imagination then. Woof.
Ngl, I miss the days when I was ~9 years old, laying on my parents' living room floor, just building little creations using whatever bin of unsorted bricks I had and just playing for hours creating my own storylines
I only watched the first episode of Ahsoka and thought it was boring. But I still picked up the E-Wing and Shin Hati starfighter set cause I really like the E-Wing design.
Ngl you got to be the most based lego sw fan. Such a positive outlook on lego is rare now a days. Heck even i am not to happy with lego right now. (Proving my point) but i love way you are positive about so many things from now but also the past. Im happy to see people like you shine a proper light on old lego. Keep it up
@BillyBobJoe14 I mean MNR make's actull reviews not these kinds of tabloid pushing petty potics kind of videos harri makes now... Like recently he made a review on the midi scsale alcmater and said it is a perfect setr but can't recokmmander because it is $10 over priced... And that is pretty objective which you cab see in the comments... Like Lego has gitten so used to over pircing Lego sets that have objectively bad stuff like the revser color scmeme XCapyytin Fox minifig in the current Clone gunship set that is objectively unexcused and just bad.. Like if you want to waste money donate it to any real crairty you beklive it... Or put it a good savings account at a credit union... Like wasting money to just suypprt anti consumer and let's be reall just objectly terribly bueinus practices is just teribble of you not only for your wsasting your money but actily hurting the indurty by supporting objectly terrible buise p[ratices...
@@GreenBlueWalkthrough Dude MandR is a full man child, nothing like Harri. I don’t know why you think dude makes “Tabloid articles” for reviews, he really doesn’t, and even if he did it would be a lot better than listening to MandR throw a fit over a generic clone trooper not having arm printing or whatever stupid stuff he whines about.
I felt something like this with the X mansion. People said it was too small or didn't look detailed enough but hey guess what it's LEGO and you can make it look however you like!
Great points Harri! One of my favorite themes from back then was Space Police. The minifigures were awesome and I always had tons of fun making up my own stories. Too bad it was my older brother’s set, and when he saw me playing with it he would start FUMING. 😅
Great job on the call out! Why think and take a risk when everything is given to you right? Creating a story is much more difficult as an adult than our youthful selves. Way to bring back Video back into my memory. Your Bionical knowledge knows no bounds... and I got to say... that plug was FLAWLESS!!!
As a fan and collector, it's honestly a strange feeling how back then, you had limitless ideas with the few LEGO pieces you had, and yet today, not as many ideas as before with far more and diverse pieces they produced over the years
For me, the thing is that many Lego Star Wars fans are Star Wars fans first, then Lego, and they buy exclusively Lego SW. In my case, I am more 50-50. For example, I do not buy sequel sets because I don't like the sequels, no matter how good the Lego set will be. Still, I buy other themes( architecture, botanical and do not hate everything Lego does. It seems you are a Lego fan first, then a Star Wars fan, explaining your different outlook compare to the community.
Its funny cause Lego used to base its original themes off of IPs like Johnny Thunder (Indiana Jones) and most space themes (Star Wars) I think lego could do that again along with some good writing.
I’m an early teenager and I love collecting Lego and I have the same problem as I really only get Star Wars stuff, MARVEL, DC some CITY and HP sets all themes which have been out for a long time or have a popular fan base and I just don’t get any other themes because they aren’t as popular as the previously mentioned themes. The adults are also the problem as they want 18+ sets which aren’t for play or creativity but to be put on a shelf, I have some 18+ sets like the SW dioramas and still have a fun play experience with them however adults just look at them and don’t use them for the actual purpose: to play and make your own stories.
I LOVE the Lego City Space theme. I got to create a whole story around it and lore. I made every fig and set meaningful. It's been very refreshing for me to make up my own plot lines and lore for it. Such an amazing theme
Star Wars legos are probably my favorite, but recently I have had so much fun rebuilding all the broken City, Castle, and ufo sets I got as a kid 25+ years ago.
I’m gonna buy the duel on Pereida for the following reasons: To use the display to set up a Cal Kestis meditation duel arena against imperial troops. To use Ezra’s head for a stellar custom figure. And to finally use Thrawn in the new ISD for the chimera.
I feel that mostly applies to youtubers who has a shelf behind them full of epensive Lego set just to say "Look how whimsical I am!". I am 32 and I customize everything and use new sets to recontecstualise and improve older ones with more detail. I have buildt dioramas with an expanded universe where Lego Dino, Aquanauts, Arctic and more are combined in colours and aesthetic. The only IP I have is Jurassic park and even those sets gets customised and displayed on brown baseplates with a lot of jungle buildt around it.
Only license sets I have bought ever since LEGO discontinued the original PotC theme are Eggman's mech, Piranha Plant and all 4 DK sets. On the other hand, I have bought so many non-licensed LEGO sets in same time period. And now to think of it, majority of the licensed that I like are from 2008-2014 period. Childhood nostalgia must be the reason.
I buy Lego for original themes with no branding content behind it. Needless to say, I don't buy much Lego anymore. In modern Lego where even Lego's "original" themes such as Ninjago (which has gone on way too long and lost its way after seasons 0 and 1) have extraneous content behind them, I have zero interest. I don't buy Lego to get Harry Potter or Star Wars or whatever; I buy Lego for creative, interesting, original themes with cool-looking sets. If I wanted to engage in brands such as Star Wars and Harry Potter, I'd watch the movies and play the games. This is why the 2000s was the golden age of Lego, imo.
This, along with the crazy pricing and predatory marketing, is why I buy way more from competing brands like FunWhole, Pantasy, Cobi, etc. than from Lego these days.
@@SO-ym3zs Yup. I don't buy much in terms of buildable bricks anymore, but Funwhole's sets are looking quite nice, especially with their prices. Also, Lego being a much larger company with multiple manufacturing facilities means their manufacturing costs are significantly lower than a brand like Funwhole who likely has a single manufacturing facility they also likely don't even own. This knowledge shows just how egregious Lego's price gouging is, as they could reach hefty margins while charging less than Funwhole could afford to. Instead, Lego charges 2-3x what competing brands do. Disgusting.
@@PlazDreamweaver When you start building the latest sets from Funwhole or Pantasy it casts a brilliant spotlight on Lego and makes them look pretty terrible. You have these little companies putting out super-high quality, innovative sets with all prints (and fully integrated lights in Funwhole's case) for 1/3 to 1/2 the cost of a comparably sized Lego set. And the manuals and packaging are better, too. It makes Lego's outlandish pricing and often blah designs seem too crazy to be true.
Ninjago has gotten leaps and bounds better since it's release. Take a look at the beauty of the modern sets, things 2011 Ninjago could dream of creating
this whole content driven toys does reflect a change in how toylines function, way it used to be is the toys were designed first, then writers had to come up with stories around those toys (see much of Transformers), not to say that this was better, it wasn't it had shortcomings (see much of Transformers), and more often it worked better for toylines centered on action figures/characters (like Bionicle) over those trying to sell vehicles and playsets
On the one hand I want to build whatever I can with whatever pieces happen to be lying around like when I was younger, but on the other hand I really like building with the instructions and finding ways to display them, so I don't want to take sets apart
I actually prefer to buy kits that are NOT branded. Even ignoring the point that filling my home with branded products with TM stamped on them feels kind of gross, I also feel like they're quite limited. Like a branded product is build to be one specific thing that resembles a specific thing from that one IP; there's not much else you can do with it. But something like plants or City stuff you can just arrange as you like and make up your own stories and rules for, or even rebuild and modify as you please. So if anything I'm a bit sad LEGO spends so much of their energy on branded stuff. But I do think we have more than enough other options too, so it doesn't bother me that much.
I’m mainly a Ninjago fan so I just buy the mechs, cars, motorbikes, and temples. And a few dragons. Essentially, I just buy what I want to buy if it’s in budget and looks cool. For example, Cole’s Titan Mech. I had no idea what it would be like in the show, but I definitely knew I had to buy it just because of how incredible it looked
Personally, no franchise for me. It's cheaper per brick and a lot of fun anyway. The issue you described with the need for a TV series is also with children
I just hate when people make the claim "You can't mix skin toned minifigs with yellow minifigs it looks like jondice" bro that's just creativity and fun. Imagine only being able to pick yellow minifigs or skin tone minifigs. I think you just let people be creative with *their* cities and let them mix minifigs skin tones.
I can really relate to this cause any time im watching a lego star wars vid the youtuber hates on a sequel set that i've never even seen before and my first though is "wow thats so cool!" even when i dont know the context of the set. this also goes for ninjago, as ive bought sets before without knowing too much backstory but bought it because it looked awesome
100% agree! I think you can see this especially with the sales of the Onyx Cinder, it was almsot 50% off here in Australia the other day, which for a set that just released in August is pretty insane!
Yeah as an adult who recently got back into Lego, I find myself buying them only to display them after I am done playing with them a little I do not care about their revelance on their respectable shows though
I get why licensed sets are popular like you noted but wish lego released more inhouse themes - and quality ones. Vidiyo, dreamzzz, even haunted side like had poor sales but i think themes like castle or updated rock raiders/adventurers would do good
I'm generally a Technic/Star Wars/Bioncle fan. However I saw a great deal on Friends Friends Research Rover 42162 and picked it up thinking that the trans purple stuff was cool. I was floored by how creative this design was.
I just picked up my first Ninjago set and couldn’t agree with you more about the lack of imagination in other themes. Exo-Force had a very thin plot line but when you saw the sets on shelf your mind could fill in the gaps and come up with the story yourself. Ninjago seemingly does have a rich story but you don’t really need the story to realize the mech’s and dragons are awesome. However with the recent Mandalorian sets you look at the scene they’re from and cringe… Would love more original themes where creativity and awesome designs are at the core!
that's a great point you made about Exo Force. even though it didn't have much story or content made about it (trust me I've seen everything now) I was able to still be excited about their awesome sets!
@ I think quite a lot of those early 2000’s themes had that imaginative touch. Vikings often came with a creature and a battle station / vehicle and no story… you knew what to do… Same goes for Agents, Aquazone, Atlantis, Dino attack even power miners and Alpha Team I suppose… we don’t even have alternate builds anymore to the same extent that almost everything did back in the day!
My compadre, Dreamzzz is sill on shelves and is just that regarding your last line. And if all else fails, just make your own alternate and combination builds like in the old days.
I prefer Exo-Force over Ninjago because the former left a lot more room to create your own stories with. Also, the mechs had stronger designs with focal points, unique and wacky design choices, defined shapes and color blocking, and interesting mechanics while keeping to recognizable silhouettes. Ninjago mechs and dragons are over-designed for the sake of being over-designed; they catch your eye fast and first for that quick dopamine rush, but they lack character and meaning; they lack identity and purpose; they don't hold long-term; they are not iconic; they're designed to be forgettable once a newer, flashier mech releases; they're designed as a product and not as a memorable experience; they're designed to fit their media content instead of vice versa. I see Ninjago mechs as soulless, failed replicas of what Exo-Force did successfully.
@@spencerfellman1741 dreamzzz to me lacks individuality and identity in comparison to older themes. The visual identity feels messy compared to Exo-Force, Bionicle and early Star Wars. Sure dreamzzz has alternate builds but not as much mystique or character as themes from the early 2000’s. I can build alternate builds for sure but it’s the fact that Lego doesn’t promote it anymore the way that they did back in the day that makes it sad. Just my opinion.
I picked up the Onyx before the show came out (reluctantly). I ABSOLUTLY loved the build of the ship and fell in love with it, its a FANTASTIC ship. The mini figs are ok I guess. You are absolutely right with this video.
Was watching a video a few days ago and they were ranking sets on “playability” among other things and ranked the original Lego space themes poorly. Back in those days it was the playability and our imagination that made them awesome, not the content we watched. I can’t say I’ve ever seen my kids play with Lego like I did or friends did back in the 80’s they just build the set and that’s it. For most Lego seems to have become more of a model building toy than something that’s actually played with or used to create.
I used to take days setting up Massive scenes with multiple sets that had a distinct plot. Each day/few hours I’d move them a bit to advance the plot. Took a week off school faking sick to do it. Now, I build them, Look at them, and think about how little imagination I have 😂
Love how you put those clips of the Lego Movie in there. A stark reminder of what Lego building and playing could be. When I was a kid I'd rarely keep a set built as it was designed for long. It would usually be one built and then I'd "recycle" the parts for other projects. I do seem to remember though even in that time period I'd still have a hard time mixing Star Wars minifigures with Castle knights... The play and free building lasted well into my teen years and some time into adulthod, too, until during my vocational studies it was nearly non-existent. After that, if I get my hands on a Lego set, the usual seems to happen: I build it and put it on display. Interestingly by doing this, I've come to realize that there are indeed some sets that are more suitable for this than others. Then again, if I would be building and playing like a kid still, those sets on my shelf wouldn't last long, I suppose. Frankly, I think that might be one big part of the problem. It does seem to me that as adult Lego fans, we are "allowed" to build the sets but not "to play" with them. At least, not in the way like when we were kids. Why is that? Adults play video games and that's considered some form of the traditonal play, too. Why is it so different with Lego? This might not be the only reason, but it's something that keeps coming back to me the more I think about this. And of course, when we spend more time in the real world, reading and engaging with it and not having those "breaks" we used to have when we were children, of course our imagination shrinks, and interestingly, that has other effects that touch other aspects of our lives, too. Even in this, there is a kinda sad trend going on. However, the good news is that at least this is something that can be changed by the person and it might be easier than we actually think!
I think a related issue to the whole content driven/licensed sets thing is the fact that LEGO isn't getting the sets out before the content like they used the Onyx Cinder was the first time in a while where a LEGO SW product for a new show/movie actually came out BEFORE the show's release when sets come out before the media's release that gives you the chance to get them ahead, have fun independent of whatever the story is case and point, the sets for Force Awakens (speaking of, that also brings up what you said about people dismissing stuff because they don't like what its based on, the sequel trilogy gave us a lot of neat sets but some people won't give any of them a time of day because they're from the sequels) released 3 and a half months before the movie did, we got the chance to check out the sets well before we saw the movie, have fun with them just on their own, who are these new characters? I dunno, I'm just playin and that also brings up something else: its always just one set, whenever a new thing comes out we usually get one set, 2-3 if we're lucky, but otherwise nothing, and if we do get more its at least 6 months after the show's season has run its course
I gave my opinion that lego should stop limiting themselves by refusing to make lego anime or even adult titles like horror and action movies, and lego fans instead of having a discusion about it attacked me saying lego makes enough new things and that they make enough money to not need to expand their options. ignoring the fact that lego seemingly is started to agree with my opinion with sets like jaws but they have also recently agreed to go back to the simpsons, start anime like one piece, and are finally making star trek. BUT it seems lego fans just want the death star over and over and over and over and the same ships built over and over and over and over and over with slightly different designs. omfg i built a star fighter outve 6 piece this time instead of 100 so glad i spent $20 on a ship i already have in a different size
Every set is all about me. Or you. It’s what you personally think about it. If your favorite character is Chewbacca but it turns out scary then it backfires. If you love the hulk buster but it keeps falling over that’s a problem. If the Skeleton crew build and figs are cool but the show sucks that’s a problem. If Lego releases a set without explanation and makes you make up the story it’s more important to you because you made it. It’s the whole idea behind the custom mini figures you can make in the store now. How about a theme where you can customize? Like a creator set that can have good and bad guys? You make the story. Then it will be more important to you.
First time viewer here. Here are a few thoughts I had during your video. A) there are studies that suggest that content stifles creativity in viewers. (All viewable content, i. e. tv, movies, UA-cam etc.) studies have been done showing how children who don’t watch content are more imaginative than those who view content. These studies also suggest that adults lose imagination partially because they view more content than children. B) children are also better risk takers than adults, because they haven’t been conditioned to fear consequences of risk taking. C) while I wholeheartedly believe more people buy products based on a licensed ip, I think there are people who clamor for the “more imaginative” stuff Lego could produce. That’s why channels like Beyond the Brick, who celebrate moc builders and what the imagination can produce have such big followings. It’s why there are legions of fans clamoring for more from celebrated themes like Pirates, Vikings, Castle/Medieval, and more. The Friends line seems to thrive. City seems to thrive and I think Space was well received last year. As an AFOL who came to LEGO as an adult, I was brought in by the Hidden Side line, specifically because I wanted some imaginative haunted story lines to build with my kids. In the end, what I think these points mean is that yes, adults become less imaginative as they grow older, yet there are many, many who still clamor for opportunities to let the imagination thrive and to use LEGO as a vehicle for it. That’s why I am mostly a moc builder. I watch content from moc builders and I think plenty of adults love CMF precisely for the opportunity to create stories and interesting themes from LEGO that aren’t connected to an ip. Interesting topic overall and I think you have many valid points that might warrant further exploration.
Great discussion! Reminds me of when I got the Prince of Persia LEGO sets back in the day. Despite knowing nothing about the movie or video game, I had a few of those sets and made up my own stories with them. If those sets were to release today, I probably wouldn’t buy them because of my lack of interest in the IP. Also that ad transition was really smooth 😂
Fantastic video! I’ve always been an advocate for utilizing sets as mere blueprints and just letting your imagination do the rest. I’ve been creating a custom Lego fantasy world and it’s such a blast to pull inspiration from already existing sets to integrate into my universe. My entire collection is basically a huge MOC.
i agree with this to a point. i think it depends what theme someone is interested in that determines how creative they are with their set and building. take star wars for an example, that side of the community very much lacks a lot of imagination and even if they build mocs, majority of people do clones VS battle droids or empire VS rebels, and they throw in some key characters so it looks cooler. they don't try to make their own stories out of things, they don't try to make their own vehicles almost ever. however if you look at the side of the community that's into any of the classic city/space/pitrates, or even the minecraft and ninjago themes despite ninjago having a huge IP behind it, most people don't care about it and just see them as cool ninjas with dragons, anything that is generic or allows you to remove the characters easily like minecraft or ninjago from the source and forces you to make things up as you go are a lot more creative and imaginative with the stories they tell through their mocs or animations. i'm not saying those in the other half who enjoy star wars and harry potter and others don't have creatives, just it's much much less common. at least in my opinion
Interesting point there. Lego has been making good merchandise off the best movies 🎥, with newer designs they presented each time. But there are some unique ones Lego came up with (spaceships, Pirates, race cars & Bionicle). Like those ones have great looks and fun to play with and some have stories or you could make one. Kids use imagination, that’s their unique tool that every kid use.
i think lego should never be limited. make sets of bad shows or movies the objects are still cool. fuse and make new unique things like the dark side millennium falcon. lego is the toy for creativity. its the toy where you can have jack sparrow fight darth vader
Love the conversation this is generating below! If there's anything I would add it would be to keeping an open mind, being open to new experiences, and to allow yourself to appreciate joy where you find it.
Honestly I avoid the franchise sets like the plague. I loved Nexo Knights, Dreamzzz, That ghost thingy high school kids. And the best set atm in stores for me is the Blacktron Renegade. Second options are the awesome space city sets. Can't wait to see an awesome sexy castle for the year. The only "content" sets that I bought recently were Rivendel and the Dungeons and dragons set (and I didn't get them because of their franchises). The only reason I ever touch franchise sets is because a set is really good and scratches a need for something I can't find anywhere else (SW dark robots come to mind and the harry potter castles - because one can't buy castles .... anywhere else ) .
Recently started collecting the minifigs from The Hobbit theme, cos i loved it as a kid and the Rivendell set got me back into it. Only after revisiting the hobbit trilogy and it not holding up, I started maybe regretting my decision. This video shows maybe i need to enjoy these things for what I make of them rather than the content its based off of. Good job
As someone who owns the official LEGO Titanic, fr the best Christmas gift I've ever got, even though it was like a few years ago, also, the Winnie the Pooh house, that's a set, that for now is display only, now that said at some point I plan to us it for a LEGO movie. I have quite a few sets I have collected, mainly for parts, I really wanna get in to like just randomly building stuff, I try to like use my imagination admitedly it's hard sometimes I dunno. I was actually gifted a LEGO sped champions car and put it together, now will I use it to like build something using my imagination hopefully. I hope LEGO can return to original stuff I would love it, actually I bought the LEGO johnny thunder jungle plane, and atv set I plan to use those for original stuff. I dunno as an adult it's hard to like build my own stuff probably for a plethora of reasons
I have heaps of LEGO and I feel bad when it is just on display. I wish I had someone to play with unironically, like a son or a little brother or something.
Excellent analysis! I worry that the shift towards adults (for all its positives) has sapped a lot of the imagination and play originally found in LEGO sets! Just look at the shift in box art direction in recent years.
just a note: i am guessing based on the fact you have a link, that this content was sponsored by lightmybrick, which was not disclosed which makes it illigal. remember: just a note dont get mad at me
I don't know about this video or channel, but that sort of thing is a common problem in the Lego UA-cam space, including with some of the biggest reviewers. They regularly ignore UA-cam terms of service and US FTC rules by not properly disclosing that they're sponsored by Lego or other companies.
I agree with you. personnaly, the only line I was interested in solely for the ip was indiana jones. besides that, none of the licensed themes curently available appeal to me so when I buy a set, it's only because I like the builds. I liked the city jungle sets the most because of the adventurers vibe but still not to a point where I made up my own story around the sets. If they made a show about them I'm sure i would be more engaged with the story because it would be given to me and that's a pity.
amazing point! I always want to get into the city stuff because the builds are super fun, but when I get one, I just put it aside because my mind keeps wanting to go back to a theme with all the content made about it...
The first episode might just feel slow to me but as much as I have tried I just can’t get into skeleton crew. I did just get the dark falcon for my bday tho and I’m in love
great point! and its got me thinking the opposite purchasing habits are true too for the same reason. because we value content so much if a set is from content we dont engage with we dont buy it. its why I never buy harry potter stuff, all the sets are something very specific, a specific part with specific characters and a specific story. and if you dont feel like a part of that franchises fans you dont buy something like that. But i feel the same way about some smaller ips like dreamzzz sometimes too since it feels like the toy doesnt tell the full story unlike something like a pirates set. im looking forward to your change in reviewing the sets as they are, not how faithful they are to their IP.
yes! looking at the pirates theme is something I wished I added in this video. the early years of the theme sold super well because we didn't have smart phones/computers at our fingertips, but when they reran the theme in 2015, it didn't sell well. my guess is because it didn't have a story to accompany it🤷♂️
@@brickmasterharri true. the pirates theme had was probably unknown to people or just a lack of hype since now we get all our info online. with computers more people know star wars than they know lego despite being on store shelves. I think lego knows this so it goes for the easy strategy. it takes a lot more thought and time to build a presence with something original. its such a shame too, lego can make amazing things just letting the bricks deliver the design.
I don’t think I agree. I don’t like the friends theme but still bought the botanical gardens. I buy botanical and harry potter sets but I don’t like the mandrake set so I didn’t buy it. I’ve played every Mario game and only bought the 2 sets that interest me, the rest just don’t look good. For me it really is about the build and how it looks, and I don’t think I’m an outlier.
Um you do understand almost all Lego master builders are AFOLs the skill not official title think ace pilot who is good at flying but hasn't been in a ashooting war kind of thing.. Like how canb anyone unironicly say AFOLs lack c5reatiovivly when we are the most creative people in the Lego cumnity? To the poiunt we point Lego designers to shame! Luitterlery if we didn't they wouldn't feel the need to cancel legal Lego ideas sets or feel the need to make 100% unanssercy changes to them that makes you wonder we even have Lego ideas inb the first place! Same with fan fan polls like the infamous fan poll for the minigfigs in the uCS llego gunship! Like AFOLS had a ton of fun ideas for minifigs but Legoi just used a gen 1 clone trooper commander from a battlepack! Saying it's just as good as a Clone pilot because it has a yellow racing stripe! Which by the the way this is a Lego USC set the halo sets for Lego star wars and they even braged about how it was 100% reused parts! Like why not just sell the instructuions on rebrickable at that point and save the pain of making a office in retail lego set!?!?! So yeah if you want tro point figures 100% point them at Lego the company because it is inb chanrge of making official leggo sets not us! So any official Lego set with objectively terribvle design like that cppatin Fox minifig that would cost anything to get right juist6 some lego designer pride! In fact it would have made the set a better vaaule then it was! Like come on stop blaming AFOLS for Legos sins! Don't you want Lego to live up to it's Motto and reuption!?!?!
Any fans of lego who feel like they're losing their imagination or creativity, I beg you right now, go buy this game called Brick Rigs, download it, install it and play. I think with lego the amount that the builds cost and the fact that you need to buy new bricks / have limited bricks, etc, is one of the most major limiting factors, Brick Rigs will let you build anything you want and play it with people online in a cool physics-based sandbox No this isn't an ad, I just adore brick rigs and hate seeing the hobby of "Lego" become increasingly "Oh boy, i sure love C O N S U M I N G P R O D U C T". for me, Brick Rigs is what kept me creating and enjoying "legos"
Losing your imagination is a real thing, I used to make up stories for my builds and take them apart to build new things, nowadays I build something and immediately display it.

Me too, I got rlly bored of Ashoka but still have almost the entire wave bc they are good sets
It only got worse 😂 it’s good you didn’t finish it
I wish they would bring back castle.
You have to go to Funwhole and BlueBrixx for that. Way too much licensed IP like Star Wars from Lego these days..
As an Amish, I need castle and cattle sets
😂
Ngl you got to be the most based lego sw fan. Such a positive outlook on lego is rare now a days. Heck even i am not to happy with lego right now. (Proving my point) but i love way you are positive about so many things from now but also the past. Im happy to see people like you shine a proper light on old lego. Keep it up

@BillyBobJoe14 I mean MNR make's actull reviews not these kinds of tabloid pushing petty potics kind of videos harri makes now... ❤
Yooooooooooooooooooo Wasup
lol
Great job on the call out! Why think and take a risk when everything is given to you right? Creating a story is much more difficult as an adult than our youthful selves. Way to bring back Video back into my memory. Your Bionical knowledge knows no bounds... and I got to say... that plug was FLAWLESS!!!
Lego SW AFOLs needs some reality check. Some are sensible and chill, but so many are nuts and need to cope and seethe a bit.
I miss the old Lego themes, Power Miners was peak, still got a few of the rock monsters lying around somewhere
Space police was so fun
Dude, you just triggered a flood of childhood memories for me. I'll never forgive my mom for getting rid of all our legos
You made me feel old.. I had rock raiders as an early teen! Miss that line so much!
2005-2013 were the golden age.
@@Rootiga Ouch
Its funny cause Lego used to base its original themes off of IPs like Johnny Thunder (Indiana Jones) and most space themes (Star Wars)
I think lego could do that again along with some good writing.
This really feels like a podcast and I like it
I’m gonna buy the duel on Pereida for the following reasons:
To use the display to set up a Cal Kestis meditation duel arena against imperial troops.
Take a look at the beauty of the modern sets, things 2011 Ninjago could dream of creating
this whole content driven toys does reflect a change in how toylines function,
way it used to be is the toys were designed first, then writers had to come up with stories around those toys (see much of Transformers), not to say that this was better, it wasn't it had shortcomings (see much of Transformers), and more often it worked better for toylines centered on action figures/characters (like Bionicle) over those trying to sell vehicles and playsets
On the one hand I want to build whatever I can with whatever pieces happen to be lying around like when I was younger, but on the other hand I really like building with the instructions and finding ways to display them, so I don't want to take sets apart
The Lego group needs to see this video.
Idk I think we would like to see more collabs with Lego more than anything
I can really relate to this cause any time im watching a lego star wars vid the youtuber hates on a sequel set that i've never even seen before and my first though is "wow thats so cool!" even when i dont know the context of the set. this also goes for ninjago, as ive bought sets before without knowing too much backstory but bought it because it looked awesome
I wish we had more original themes in Lego, monkey kid was great and I kinda wanna have a spiritual successor to Exo Force.
I used to combined IPs! I still tell stories with my sets .you may not be able to tell from my displays.
100% agree! I think you can see this especially with the sales of the Onyx Cinder, it was almsot 50% off here in Australia the other day, which for a set that just released in August is pretty insane!
Yeah as an adult who recently got back into Lego, I find myself buying them only to display them after I am done playing with them a little
I do not care about their revelance on their respectable shows though
However with the recent Mandalorian sets you look at the scene they’re from and cringe…
Would love more original themes where creativity and awesome designs are at the core!
that's a great point you made about Exo Force. even though it didn't have much story or content made about it (trust me I've seen everything now) I was able to still be excited about their awesome sets!
I used to take days setting up
Massive scenes with multiple sets that had a distinct plot. Each day/few hours I’d move them a bit to advance the plot. Took a week off school faking sick to do it. Now, I build them,
Look at them, and think about how little imagination I have 😂
I kept my childhood imagination but unfortunately i pretty much have my childhood income as well so no Lego for me.
2:29 bro, I miss Nexo Knights 😢
Same! Loved that line!
I got the Onyx Cinder because it looked cool. I missed out on the U-Wing and ITS transport so I didn't pass up on this quad engine set.
I think a related issue to the whole content driven/licensed sets thing is the fact that LEGO isn't getting the sets out before the content like they used
the Onyx Cinder was the first time in a while where a LEGO SW product for a new show/movie actually came out BEFORE the show's release
when sets come out before the media's release that gives you the chance to get them ahead, have fun independent of whatever the story is
case and point, the sets for Force Awakens (speaking of, that also brings up what you said about people dismissing stuff because they don't like what its based on, the sequel trilogy gave us a lot of neat sets but some people won't give any of them a time of day because they're from the sequels) released 3 and a half months before the movie did, we got the chance to check out the sets well before we saw the movie, have fun with them just on their own, who are these new characters? I dunno, I'm just playin
and that also brings up something else: its always just one set, whenever a new thing comes out we usually get one set, 2-3 if we're lucky, but otherwise nothing, and if we do get more its at least 6 months after the show's season has run its course
I agree I mean I don't have an imagination the most active I am is just going on rebrickable
Me who only buys flowers and city construction sets:
i think lego should never be limited. make sets of bad shows or movies the objects are still cool. fuse and make new unique things like the dark side millennium falcon. lego is the toy for creativity. its the toy where you can have jack sparrow fight darth vader
*response before watching video* "Hey!"
Genuinely I love the Onyx Cinder, I need a UCS version
me too🔥 even BETTER the show is sick too
I could do without all licensed themes.
I am a TFOL. 17 years old. Just a year from now, I will become an AFOL. Should I be scared?
Nah. Build whatever you want. I'm almost 23 and I still buy Lego creative buckets for spare parts and building MILS plates and stuff.
I'd buy the onyx ship, if it wasnt $140
This is hardly exclusive to adults, kids care about brands arguably more, they see spiderman on it and go wild
I don't think I have 😮
Recently started collecting the minifigs from The Hobbit theme, cos i loved it as a kid and the Rivendell set got me back into it. Only after revisiting the hobbit trilogy and it not holding up, I started maybe regretting my decision. This video shows maybe i need to enjoy these things for what I make of them rather than the content its based off of. Good job
Smooth ad transition
W video Harri 🔥
I am so happy, Becuz I just built a really cool alternate build
which one😮
I built a republic gun ship out of the retried obi wans Jedi Star fighter
I wish I had someone to play with unironically, like a son or a little brother or something.
i just stopped watching videos on lego leaks because i was tired of other people trying to decide my opinion for me.
Excellent analysis! I worry that the shift towards adults (for all its positives) has sapped a lot of the imagination and play originally found in LEGO sets! Just look at the shift in box art direction in recent years.
I usually look at a sets potential to adding to the other sets I'm proud to display
just a note: i am guessing based on the fact you have a link, that this content was sponsored by lightmybrick, which was not disclosed which makes it illigal. remember: just a note dont get mad at me
I don't know about this video or channel, but that sort of thing is a common problem in the Lego UA-cam space, including with some of the biggest reviewers. They regularly ignore UA-cam terms of service and US FTC rules by not properly disclosing that they're sponsored by Lego or other companies.
Really creative video!well done!
I wasn't creative even when I was younger 😅😂
Show has been awesome. I think with star wars sets it is more about the connection to it through the show/movie.
You forgot about one theme, Creator
haha true that
[reads title] Am I a joke to you?
Honestly, I prefer Lego Original themes where the story is up to interpretation.
Love the Mocs👍
I’ll change my ways
Great point i think !
afol slanders, is always great
😂😂 no offense to anyone, but I think it's an interesting topic to bring up in the space. I definitely experience it!
How about also this thinking contributing to not wanting to customize a set you have
Love the vid
thanks!
The first episode might just feel slow to me but as much as I have tried I just can’t get into skeleton crew. I did just get the dark falcon for my bday tho and I’m in love
sick! that's a set you could definitely enjoy without seeing the show it's based off because there's so much creativity in the design and figs!
@ yea it’s one of the only sets that I’ve just sat down and played with
great point! and its got me thinking the opposite purchasing habits are true too for the same reason.
because we value content so much if a set is from content we dont engage with we dont buy it.
its why I never buy harry potter stuff, all the sets are something very specific, a specific part with specific characters and a specific story. and if you dont feel like a part of that franchises fans you dont buy something like that.
I just want Lego to be cheap again
I wish that and that LEGO would make more non-licensed themes.
I'm the same way. But I believe we are the outlier in today's age.
Good points.
I think this Video is kind a inspiring
Cool
Most of the people that aren't liking skeleton crew didn't watch it and are just parroting what some ai generated outrage farm is saying saying

Wow, good for you.
Any fans of lego who feel like they're losing their imagination or creativity, I beg you right now, go buy this game called Brick Rigs, download it, install it and play. I think with lego the amount that the builds cost and the fact that you need to buy new bricks / have limited bricks, etc, is one of the most major limiting factors, Brick Rigs will let you build anything you want and play it with people online in a cool physics-based sandbox
No this isn't an ad, I just adore brick rigs and hate seeing the hobby of "Lego" become increasingly "Oh boy, i sure love C O N S U M I N G P R O D U C T". for me, Brick Rigs is what kept me creating and enjoying "legos"
