I think one detail a lot of people are missing (although I can see from the comment's section that some are picking up on it as well) is what appears to be Keith and Bill talking after they listen to the AoD guy on the radio. Keith sounds like he's questioning Bill's willingness to do something. We later see him on the ground, having been ripped apart by a hunter. The only logical conclusion I can come up with is that when Bill escaped the workshop (possibly leaving Nick to die, or escaping together and later being separated) he comes across the Angels of Death. Instead of killing him (for some reason, seeing that they're targeting the group) they offer him a proposition to let him live. He refuses and plans to go and try to re-unite with the group, which I assume is what Keith is pleading with Bill about reconsidering. It would be reasonable that Keith lets him go, seeing what his emotions towards the group are, that of Reluctance. So, he tries to go out but his caught by a hunter (possibly caught by the dead smoker we see before), possibly one that was tamed by Keith or is wild (I'm thinking the former).
