@SNES drunk as someone who's been trying to complete chrono trigger for 20 years and is planning on making yet another attempt soon, I would love to hear your preferred patches for Chrono Trigger
Thank you so much for the FF4 Free Enterprise shoutout! We're so happy that you wanted to highlight our love letter to Final Fantasy 4 and the great community of players that we've built around it.
I'm really glad they covered it, because I never would have found out about it. Looking forward to checking it out! Thanks for your work!
Free Enterprise, can you tell us a bit more about what it does differently? He doesn't go over what it means to say the ff4 universe.
@@BigCowProductions Hey there, I still haven't had a chance to check it out myself (the agency I work for has been very busy recently), but once I have a chance, I will let you know, spoiler-free!
Thank you for your service!
This enthusiasm in the gaming community is always so inspiring. Great job!
Thanks for covering my "Death and Return of Superman-Resurrection" hack. I've followed this channel for a long time and was super excited to see you included it and also that you understood and appreciated the reasoning behind it.
Not a lot of retrotubers cover Savage Garden. Well done sir.
Seriously!
I can't believe Chrono trigger hasn't been given a remake , I'd like to see that happen one day❤️
You're right. If any of Square's games deserve it it would be Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 6 and Final Fantasy 9 in that order.
I can't imagine them saying no to you if you asked nicely.
I think some fanmade ones existed, but were taken down.
Does the DS port count?
I'd love a 32bit with widescreen support version.
Thank you for doing this. This series is amazing. Improvement patches make old games much more approchable nowadays.
There's a part in Chrono Trigger+ where you go to a movie theater in 1999 and watch a movie about the fight with Magus with everyone in your party including Magus commenting on the historical inaccuracies. It's hilarious, worth the whole patch just for that scripted scene.
You'll have to check out the next version when I release it. My skills improved a little and I was able to make the movie even more "Hollywood".
Can't wait, that sounds hilarious. Thanks for working on such a cool mod!
Stand-alone Time Pilot for SNES. Amazing.
Lmao the things dreams are made of
I feel like raising the experience and gold in most games would help a lot - and this is coming from a guy who kind of enjoys grinding. High five to everyone who created Easy Mode in G.O.D.
Does anyone else use the auto generated closed captions? Everytime the dude opens a video with SNNEEESSS DRUNK it guesses something different and it's awesome. Super funny everytime.
Soon that's drunk, is what I got this time.
This is easily one of the most useful and interesting channels on youtube, thanks for the hard work and high quality content!
1999 in Chrono Trigger always seemed trapped in glass, a brief moment of peace and fascination which ended, with nothing I could do about it----easily my favorite game from my childhood.
Always love when your content drops, will literally stop what I'm doing and enjoy.
Time Pilot reminds me of what LuftRauser was trying to put a spin on. In LuftRauser you can instantly accelerate in the direction you point your plane in and it slowly falls to the ground while you aren't accelerating making it feel very arcadey.
These and your rom hack videos are definitely ones I appreciate and look out for immensely. Thanks mate.
Absolutely love this series. While playing the pure, original versions of these retro games is always great, it's also a joy to have brand new ways to play those old games you love. Or just play the game itself in a more reasonable way (e.g. Jurassic Park's saving). Thanks for highlighting all those great mods and hacks. Hope to continue to see more and more of this series!
There's so many games that just fixing a couple major problems makes the game so much more enjoyable.
Imagine watching a SNESdrunk video and not having a great rest of your day. Couldn't be me
Super Punch Out's 2 players mode was really surprising. Thanks for the video, SDrunk, keep it up ✌🏼
How interesting Crono trigger +
I want to play it now... D:
Thanks SNES drunk.
1999 Savage Garden represent!
I love how I've never got a single one of your sports or pop culture references in the last 4-5 years I've been watching your videos.
@@Charles.Wright You're taking a bit of a leap with the assumption that they were born yet.
LOVE free enterprise!
I've played though FF4 maybe 20 times and FE was a great way to just play with the world opened up and with the potential to see some crazy and amazing things happen in a game I know pretty darn well.
I'd love to see a hack for Pocky & Rocky SNES, that lets you hold a button to lock the aim direction and strafe. Would make that game much more enjoyable imo.
Huh, I'm surprised someone hasn't done that already.
there’s one now
Oh, so the Superman patch lets you play as Silver Age Superman who was OP as hell
Bingo. Make sure to use the MSU1 audio pack found at zeldix.
God I love this series. As a proud member of the emulation sinners, finding unique patches for retro games is so much fun.
Can't believe I'd never heard of the Chrono Trigger patch. I absolutely need to get that.
At first I was scoffing abt the Superman patch "why would someone make a patch just to make things so easy there isnt anything to overcome"?
After hearing the reasoning? "Ok you got me there"!
He absolutely gets it. Also has MSU1 audio support.
Finally we can experience Adventures of Kid Kleets without throwing up at our controllers. This might be just Kid Kleets, but it caught my attention the first time your reviewd it.
Thanks for putting this series out - ROM hackers don't always do the best job publicizing their stuff so the really cool stuff winds up just appearing in a list of twenty other years of romhacks in RHDN.
I never neglect watching any of your ROM hack / improvement patch videos. They're far and away my favorite content you produce. In fact, I watched this one at .5 speed so that you get more watched hours credited to you from the UA-cam gods, and it makes you sound actually drunk.
"You can wander around 1999 and look around for Savage Garden or something..."
Zoomers will be confused, millennials will grin at that joke.
Protip: A few emulators and cores within retroarch can automatically apply IPS patches in the same folder on game load so if you don't want to mess with joining files, rename the IPS patch to match the rom file exactly.
For example using the Gradius 3 SA1 hack, when you run Gradius3SA1.smc while Gradius3SA1.ips is in the same folder, the Snes9x core will auto apply the patch for that load of the game (even if the menu just says Gradius 3 when it pulls the rom header)
Gotcha.
It's better to not apply any of the speed up patches and just use the built-in overclocking features of the emulators, BSNES allows overclocking the main SNES CPU, the SFX chip or the SA-1 chips, no need for any of the speed up patches on emulators, these are mostly useful for flash carts on real hardware.
@@Charles.Wright Yeah, for those you're gonna wanna apply them in order using Lunar or Unipatcher or their equivalent
I think Mr. Drunk should make a new series named as something like PixelSteamDrunk or just make more SteamDrunk videos about retro styled games. There's a WHOLE world of nice games waiting for Mr. Drunk to cover.
It's wild to me that Free Enterprise is only just now being mentioned.
The savage garden side quest for Chorno Trigger is amazing
Great video! This is one of my favorite series on the channel! There are so many great hacks that fly under my radar, so I always appreciate learning about new ones!
4:56 I wouldn't consider playing _Mega Man X_ millions of times "weird" at all. Quite the contrary. I've played through it many times as well and still have a good time! It really is such a fantastic game on all fronts and still holds up extremely well!
I keep waiting for SNESDrunk to cover my "Capsule Remix" patch, which admittedly probably needs a better name, but removes the forced stage ordering from the game. You start with dash, and optionally get air dash from Chill Penguin's stage. No capsules require other capsules, so you're free to approach the game in whatever order you want. I also removed Zero's Buster from the game, forcing you to get the X Buster if you want an upgrade, which of course allows X1 to finally be a buster-only no upgrade game. As a final note, I streamlined the acquisition of Hadouken.
@@PowerPandaMods Holy moly! It's _PowerPanda_ ! I love your Mega Man X Capsule Remix patch! I came across it like a year ago! It is my favorite way to play Mega Man X! I appreciate all the work you, Justin3009, and DarkSamus993 did to improve vanilla MMX! Hope you guys continue more rom hacking!
@@mattb6522 glad you're enjoying it. I am working on the Megaman Zero series right now.
@@PowerPandaMods Awesome, man! Looking forward to seeing your next rom hack!
Nice lineup of improvement patches this round! I'll have to check them out for sure. :)
something about this series that I find so interesting. the patches are kind of what I expected from classic game releases lime the Wii VC, but instead all we got was no effort rom dumps. fan made updates. keep em coming !
Interesting as always! I like that people make these patches for old games
Making Tuesdays Thursdays and improvement patches great again
Amen brother 💪😎🎮
Right on
SNES dup
It was an awful day, and then my dude Snesdrunk posted these awesome patches. Thank you so much!
Time Pilot was the first game of Yoshiki Okamoto, better known for his later work at Capcom, including 1942, Final Fight and Street Fighter 2.
These are always so much fun and tempt me into replays
Thank you for directing us to the improvement patches
Always great to see these type of patches.
The G.O.D. game improvement sounds interesting. It doesn't necessarily sound easier, just less grind heavy. Constant random battles get annoying, especially when trying to solve puzzles.
Reminds me of the Breath of Fire 2 QoL updates
I love these videos! And the Best RomHacks ones =) Keep up the great work!
These are so great! Thank you so much for bringing attention to these!
Oh damn, you definitely got G.O.D. on my radar now. Excited to see when that vid comes out!
Yeah boi, I love this type of videos, going over games that are made even better thanks to the effort of the fans, going over stuff that the developers might had overlooked
Thanks for doing these type of compilation videos, stay drunk my friend!
Love these videos! Thanks for letting me know about all these cool romhacks!
As a fellow Chrono Trigger Fan, I'd like to Recommend the Jets of Time randomizer for Part 7. Turns Chrono Trigger into a quasi-open world hunt similar to Free Enterprise or FF6 World collide.
Thank you for showing the g.o.d. mod! A few years ago i played the game. It’s great, but i need much time for grinding.
So with this Patch i can play the game again and enjoy the story and the fun of the game :)
Ganbare Goemon probably is the reason why they named that mobile game "Pokémon GO" and not "Goémon". :D
Your channel is top notch. Love your content bro and your exploration into rom hack stuff!
Not seen you for ages, it feels like bumping into an old friend!
The best patch by far is whoever made superman normal. LOL!
Thank you for the support.
I love watching videos like this. You learn so much
Love this series, keep em coming!
Working my way through every SNES game currently, will have to take a look at the patches at one point too :)
I just want to second Final Fantasy 4 Free Enterprise. Not only have I enjoyed a handful of seeds myself, but there are full-on speedrun tournaments for it that have been endlessly fascinating. The Randomizer really requires speedrunners to expand their knowledge of the game in order to over come the challenges the seed throws at them, and watching them wrestle with those in a competition has been a blast.
#snesdrunk youre my hero. I just finished patching all the roms from both lists, the 6 chapter of romhacks + the 6 chapters of improvement patches :D thanks for sharing this amazing content and bringing to light all this patches that would be very difficult to find by myself, I just opened up to a hole new world! Now im only missing were to start... weres the top 13 romhacks and the top 13 improvement patches :D keep it up
I love these videos. Recently I started to order some repro cartridges with improvement patches with to play in the real console, they are awesome
Why not just get an everdrive or something like it ?
@@Gatorade69 I like having the snes cartridges, I'm keeping my collection low with only games I want to play to not have the Netflix effect, for the ones with nice Famicom boxes (like gundam wing) I also order an reproduction box with nice quality to have in a shelf
For the n64 thou I intend to buy an everdrive 64 x7
Thanks! Hope you have a great rest of your day!
Best series ever!
Love these videos mate. Keep them coming
I love these videos, so many hack ectopic to try I wouldn't otherwise know about .... Thanks SNESDRUNK
I really liked Chrono Trigger - Schala Edition. It adds some basic qol stuff but most importantly it adds a whole new section of 10,000 BC where you go searching for Schala. Some small additions to every world.
Are you serious? That sounds like awesome! Have you gone on the adventure already?
@@chivalrous_chevy1163 yes I've played through it one time all the way through and it's really a nice time. The extra stuff in 10,000 BC is tastefully done and not super long but significant enough where I still remember some of the details. The only gripe I had is they rename tonic to potion. I always prefer to see tonic. :)
I put in some work on CT+, adding in 9 songs from the pre-release and re-releases back into the SNES version. I don't know if Ben has released it yet, but it will fill 1999 with new music.
Not yet, I was hoping to get Human Glenn working but everyone on the forum moved on almost immediately. Mauron said she'd figure it out for me but I don't know when.
@Ben Doyle need human glenn..great work on this hack! My definitive chrono trigger go to!
OHHH I didnt know there was a GOD Easy Mode patch! I've been meaning to play this for a while now, but I've been dreading the grind, so I'm absolutely going to do this patch! yisyisyissss
When I got into roms WAY back in the day when no one knew anything about them(no youtube essentially) I avoided all the ones labeled "hack." Having no knowledge of what hack even meant I assumed they were broken or would "hack" your system, amazing what a little information can do.
Thanks for releasing this video while i'm recovering from a little surgery 👍
Hope you get well soon.
Thank you! I will ^^
Oh my god, I love the new FFV translation!!! Definitely gonna check that out
I downloaded this whole 6 part series I plan on getting all of these rom hacks working & play them all on original hardware I hope more people do videos on these I think these are one best things of playing retro games in 2023
Wow, had never heard of G.O.D. before, will have to check that out!
Love this series. Thanks
Love your content!
that's it, im playing FF5 Tweaks when I have the time. Love this series, SD. Also, yeah, chrono trigger + sounds like a streaming service
Nice shout-out to GOD. Hope you enjoy the rest of it, it's a pretty good overlooked game. I still never figured out what the Love stat does though...
I'm happy that SNES still working 💕
I love finding out new things about nearly 30 year old games :)
I love that phrase "It's just a good time." No inflation's or over the top with it just a good time. It would be cool to have a list called that. Games that are just a good time.
First time I'm hearing about that G.O.D. game, and it looks pretty good. I'm definitely checking that one out.
Thank you snes drunk you are the best !!
You should cover msu-1 hacks in these
"and look for Savage Garden or something" - the pride of my hometown!
And the description of the Superman game was very true.
Best retro channel on UA-cam...
Great work Sir thank you 🙂
G.O.D. is definitely worth continuing. It holds up, though there are some tedious stretches.
That G.O.D. looks cool
Those are pretty neat!
I'll be your dream, I'll be your wish, I'll be your fantasy...
The Superman rom hack is probably the most logical and true to life rom hack ever made, and damn its a simple one too
"Anime Jim McMahon" Oh man that had me choke on my drink.
Ok that savage garden joke got me pretty good
I need you to up your content creation to at least two videos a day. You are great at it.
Nice vid 👍
Wow, i remember playing Time Pilot in the arcade as a kid 😳 Thanks for reminding me about that! 😁
…and about how ancient i am 😅
"naw cuz I got to have THE CONTROLLER I KNOW - MAKE A WHOLE MOD FOR IT" - the guy who really needed a color palate swap on a virtual depiction of a Super Nintendo controller, to better match the off-brand version he had and knew so well
A video about snes patches? And I appreciate that.
