Hi Brian. I have a kestrel 18 and like your idea too. Especially the fact that it works with a cable, because my rudder needs to tilt back 90 degrees. On your shaft where you want to add a weight, I suggest a threaded rod, so you can screw the weight up and down to balance it easier. Keep us posted. Cheers Hendrik.
Thanks for sharing...but...Could you have just used a stainless hinge instead of making your own? For your next video, I'd suggest watching it before posting - at about 5:30, when the camera finally stops getting me sea sick and stays put for a second, you aren't focused on where you are talking about and pointing....? I like the simplicity
Thanks Brian. I'm wanting to add this video to a Self Steering playlist I'm making but I don't seem to be able to. Do you have some setting for this unchecked or something?
I'm really liking your wind vane! I'm building my own horizontal wind vane driving a trim tab on a transom hung rudder for my Hunter 19, it's very similar to yours in design. Looking forward to seeing your self steering in action! what Boat will you be mounting it on? Best regards, Euan
This way of operating the linkage between the vane and the servo rudder, is the simplest and best way I have seen.....good idea and thank you!!
