I'm currently hitch hiking to Anchorage Alaska at age 61. I'm a retired army ranger serving nearly 30 years. My wife passed away two years ago from lupus and I decided I needed to challenge myself one more time so I rented my home to my son for a year and packed my backpack bought my border collie walking booties and off we went . I'm currently in my favorite city as I served at fort Lewis down the road. Pearl jam has always been a special band to me because my wife introduced me to them over 32 years ago so they are making this trek with me and Bernice ☺️👍. I'll be in Anchorage in maybe 4 to 6 weeks as I'm taking my time meeting new friends and enjoying the crisp clean air. I wouldn't recommend this for everyone but my philosophy has always been it's better to try something hard rather then not and living with the regret of trying. We only go around once so with that I'm living this life to the fullest. I'm getting older my legs ache more but I have never given up on anything. I'm not starting now. One love! P.S- Don't let politicians divide us, were better then that 🙏🌄🌲
My dear brother Conor died of brain cancer 4 months ago, he was only 48, this was the song we sang together every day, he just loved it and the whole Into the Wild album so thank you Eddie! Now I'm learning it on the ukelele.
easily one of the best and certainly most important songs written in the last 50 years. an incredibly cohesive, almost healing album from a prolific artist.
Into The Wild, this movie is totally awesome, but with Eddie Vedder's soundtrack that movie gets something else, that's MAGIC! It's incredible when you can walk, walk and even walk with headphones on your head, listening it and feels so good :). Thank you Eddie :).
@@adrianritchie5671 you can see the instrument has 8 tuning pegs and therefore 8 strings which makes it a mandolin, differing from a ukulele which only has 4. Easily confused :)
@@tommartin8498 the album that actually has a song he's playing a ukulele so he might be playing a mandolin it might be my mistake but he does play a certain ukulele for a company I believe the ukulele started like $6,000 a piece
I was a Gulf Stream charter pilot and I flew him to BYC for one of David Letterman’s last show and he played this song for the attendant on the jet. What a nice guy. We flew a lot of entertainment types and many were not very nice, very stuck up. Eddie was a pleasure to meet and have as a passenger
So so good to watch Eddie play this live and really give that mandolin a workout. Ostensibly a song about a boy who gets lost but a reminder that we’re all lost boys, girls, people at some point in our lives. Then I remember Tolkien and it gives me peace. “All who wander are not lost.”
My husband and I love this song so much that we had it play while we had our wedding ceremony kiss and walked back down the aisle together. Gives me chills every time I hear it!
I love this song. It made me start playing a mandolin and I really love it. Thank you Eddie. Looking forward to seeing you live in June in Switzerland with Peal Jam. You are a great artist, composer and musician.Thank you for you music.
I think we all knew that kind of person that no one ever wanted to give them ride when they're drunk. I just can't believe Eddie was that one. :D Yeah, I can imagine how "funny" it was back then. Some things never change no matter if it was in '88 or 20 years later: similar thing happend to my friends and I once, but we managed to pull the drunk guy out of car before he threw up. After that none of us ever volunteered to do it again. But we're not lucky "our guy" isn't famous. lol Thanks for sharing your story, it's hilarious. If there's more "#1 fan" things you remember from that period don't keep it just for yourself! Did he at least offer to pay for cleaning? :D
+Doc Buxin That is huge!!! Hope Eddie remembers that, in some way tho since he was drunk...!! Wish I was there man. I usually am the drunk one aswell! Maybe someone will tell a story about me... Ahahah

Love this song - I played soo many times while trekking in the north of Spain ( Camino De Santiago ) . There is a special thing about this album And being “ into the wild “ . Just you and the music
This song got me through some tough times!! Thanks Eddie for such a great tune! Thank you Pearl Jam for putting out kick ass jams for me to grow up to! Love you guys. :)
My wife Alejandra Hollingsworth and my self enjoy hood music and peral jam is one of the best we like to hear after a hard day of work relaxing to pearl jam is awesome
That was beautiful, song is beautiful and Eddie is beautiful!! When he sings it goes straight to my heart and my emotions, he is awesome human being!! Thank you for sharing this video 😊💓🤘✌️
Have to admit I'm not a huge Pearl Jam or Eddie Vedder fan but this song played at the closing credits for the 2017 movie "Megan Leavey" and it's awesome!

Try on a mandolin if you ever get one , the double strings makes the tone totally different
I‘m sorry for your loss ❤️
RIP Conor.
❤️🙏
Leah, sorry about your bro 😢
i’ve played it on the uke for awhile; kinda my own arrangement 😏
did you ever learn it on your uke?

Thank you Eddie :).
I've never heard anyone play the mandolin so beautifully. Such a special soundtrack for an exceptional movie.
I believe it's a mandolin, but totally agree. the power in this song is so relevant to the power of Chris McCandless' story
Hear more songs ;)

Gonna rise up
Burning black holes in dark memories
Gonna rise up
Turning mistakes into gold
amazing lyrics, aren't they?
beatifull
My favorite line
this song made me buy my first mandolin. I played this song to myself today when my friend died.
The phrasing highs and lows he employs on that mando! Brilliant.

Such an amazing artist is Eddie Vedder. I feel very honored to have lived in the same generation as he. Thanks Eddie. Love you brother.

Oh Eddie, you gem of a human being. This song always gives me goosebumps.
If you don't automatically love this song from the first listening, then I doubt there is a heart pumping inside of you.
How come i cry every time i listen too this man;-)
I am simply in love with his voice:-)
Danny Jourdain Indeed!!!!!!!
Maybe you associate this song with that kids death from the movie
He has one of the most raw and captivating voices rock has seen in a very long time. He is a wonderful talent.
This has helped through some really dark days, thank you. You’ve been there since I was 15 and still here now that I’m 44.
Truly one of the most perfect souls on this planet ❤️❤️❤️

I love this song! Not only is it amazing, it has a very personal meaning for me. It gave me hope in one of the darkest times in my life. Thank you.
Eddie Vedder + Flannel Shirts = True Love
ONE OF MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITES.
Where I grew up this guy was a local surfer Eddie Mueller . Then he became Eddie Vedder the rock star . NCSD
+Doc Buxin I hope this is all true as I'm laughing hard at your story. lol

So beautiful! Eddie makes the ukulele so amazing. No other can do that.
It's actually a mandolin :)
Hes still wearing the same flannel shirt from the 90s
Everyone in the Pacific Northwest is still wearing the same flannel shirt from the 1990s.
I’m still wearing mine from the 80’s. lol
I need to get a flannel shirt again. Lol.
he still has the same shy smile from back then too...
And he still has made more money that you ever will in your lifetime.
Should be much longer. It's just great listening to this.
can't believe some people gave this a thumb down, don't you listen to them Eddie! You rock!!
I don't think our guy cares for them! :D Go Eddie!
When _road rage_ starts to bubble and boil, *Into The Wild* is my answer.
