For everyone having issues when making the two slot center points symmetric to the x axis (around 13:10): Enable "Auto Remove Redundants". In 0.21.1, this parameter can be set in the constraints settings. You find these settings at the top right corner of the constrains section on the left.
I found that by adding a point to the x-axis and then using that point (instead of the x-axis) along with the two radius points, I was able to establish the symmetrical constraint on the slot.
Absolutely outstanding!! Learning about the "m" option for a polyline just blew my mind. Thanks for all the work you do producing a video that helps so many of us and will be viewed by THOUSANDS over time!!
Wow this is the first tutorial that I’ve watched the explained constraining geometry and then the measurements . I’d get to the end of sketching and never new where to start. Thanks for your doing this for free CAD. 82 and never too old to learn some thing New. Please keep them coming LarryMJones
I found your channel after searching up FreeCAD tutorials after getting FreeCAD. I am a complete CAD beginner, I have never used any form of parametric design software before and your videos have helped me to get my head around this as someone who is self-teaching. Brilliant content! Cant wait for Part 3.
This man is the business...the tutorial explains everything in small, logical steps...and at a relaxed pace, giving you time to digest the information without having to constantly re-wind the video...which with some tutorials can be a right ballsache ! Well done, Sir...We all appreciate your time and effort that you put into these brilliant tutorials. Cheers....from the Grumpy Limey.
I looked into FreeCAD because I was curious in the past and it was hard to get into it without a goal. Now I got a 3D printer and have things I want to do. Your tutorials are very clear and best I've seen so far, subscribed to see more. Thanks!
It took me two hours to go through this tutorial. I paused after every action and tried it myself. I started of at zero knowledge, and I learnt a lot in this turorial. Thank you so much!! Time for lesson 3.
Excellent tutorial! Your pacing is just about perfect for me (and I like the little reminders "right click"), I only have to pause and/or rewind occasionally, as opposed to some other tutorials I've watched where they go way too fast. I have a tiny bit of experience with Fusion but I am trying to move to FreeCAD.
Flowie what a great tutorial. I know it takes a lot of time to produce a lesson. Just know it’s not falling on deaf ears. Thank you for your efforts i look forward to the next lesson.
This is a fantastic program taught by a fantastic teacher. I've used SolidWorks, SketchUp, and recently Fusion 360. I found SketchUp to be useful for architectural drawings but worthless for machine tools. I was looking for a CAD program with a sheet metal component. Fusion 360 has that, but it is torture to use. You, sir, and FreeCAD are worth a million. Your teaching style is clear and concise. I can't thank you enough.
I did 2-D drafting in the 1980's with AutoCAD, but things with CAD software have obviously changed a lot since then! I'm totally new to the concepts of "degrees of freedom" and "constraints". This is very helpful instruction, both in the operation of the application interface and the concepts of 3-D drafting. Thank you.
Ich habe lange nach einer anschaulichen Erklärung gesucht, da ich noch nie mit einem 3D-Programm gearbeitet habe mit dieser Erklärung bin ich sehr zufrieden und es ist auch leicht zu verstehen
Hello, I’m also new to freecad although I was a skilled drafter in AutoCAD 2008 I couldn’t reinstall it after my former computer crashed. I have been bingewatching Freecad tutorials for a couple of weeks now to learn the limits and what are good procedures of working flow. Congratulations, I think you’re explaining very well!
Thank you Flowwie! Looking forward to the next course. As FreeCAD grows in popularity so to will your channel. I've learned more from this one course so far than in the other channels teaching FreeCAD. Again thank you!
Thank you very much for your polite comment. I also hope that this channel has a bright future ahead with FreeCAD growing. I have 2 easy beginner's exercises in the making that follow the first 2 basic course episodes and then follows Basic Course part 3. Best regards!
Anyone who found this video useful should send a tip as a token of your appreciation, and a little encouragement to put out part 3. The link to his PayPal is in the description.
Coming straight from Part 1, this is equally brilliant. I can see so many things that I've missed as a long time Fusion360 user. Thank you hugely Flowwie!
Excellent tutorial! ProTip: You'll save yourself a lot of head scratching if you take the time to arrange your icon menu the same as the one in the tutorial - especially if you're using a newer version with slightly different icons.
Mr. Flowie, thank you so much, this is an outstanding explanation, clear, concise and precise, learning a lot, certainly appreciate very much your effort an willingness to teach. Thank you Sir.
Wow wow wow. I got absolutely nowhere trying Freecad by myself. I have viewed a few videos but your logical progression and clear explanations are outstanding teaching. Thanks so much. I intend watching your enture series now that you have given me renewed hope of becoming comfortable with Freecad.
You are doing absolutely fantastic. Your courses are perfect. FreeCAD is extremely complicated for newbies like me but with your courses it can be done and it is very motivating to continue with building more complicated shapes. Thanks a lot!
What a great tutorial. FIrst time I have actually been able to create an object in a 3D Cad program and actually understand what needs to be done to achieve this. I will play around for a short while, with what I have learned before moving to next tutorial video.
Was using Solidworks when I was working but will not be buying a 5k license to play around at home. This software and your comprehensive tutorials will do the trick
Even better than part 1. You are hitting the level of detail and progressing the learning at a perfect rate for me. I started out using Fusion 360 but found the learning curve too confusing. FreeCAD + Your Tutorials are working great so far. I'm looking forward to the next one.
I have been using sketcher for a while and thought I knew it all, but I watched this because it's Flowie 😊 To my surprise I learned a couple of very handy things I never knew about. The names for constraints and then accessing them in the property window was the big take away for me. But the main lesson was "never skip over a Flowie video" Cheers from Canada!
Just came across your tutorial today. Spending the afternoon watching on the TV. Trying to absorb as much as i can. Will open freeCAD on the computer later and follow along again On to lesson 3
Thanks for this tutorial! Just started learning FreeCAD, and I can already tell it has a lot of potential. At first I wasn't really convinced but now I find it very intuitive. Keep making these videos!
Your tutorials are really fantastic for a beginner like myself. As a retired EE and software engineer, never dealt with 3d modeling. I'm a drummer and build electronics for my acoustic kit. Once I found out about 3D printing and have access to 3D printers, I thought this would be perfect for me to learn and 3D print angle brackets, plates, etc. But it's a long haul to learn FreeCad to build even the most simple parts. Hopefully I'll get there with your instruction videos.🥁🎶
This was so informative, thanks for explaining everything in such an easy to follow way, so much just makes sense now, I am hoping a part three will come soon, but at least I feel confident to start working on my first projects already! Please do a video on the Path Workbench. Thanks for your efforts.
Thanks for your comment. I have already recorded part 3 a few weeks ago. I have to get back to video editing and make it 100% complete. Then I will upload it and you can have a look ! :)
Hi there! I found this channel after going into 3D printing world and was searching for a free or affordable designing program. Even at work, I have access to SolidWorks etc. (even I'm not mechanical designer) paid versions, I found this FreeCAD program to be suitable for me at my home PC. Thanks!
I tried Freecad two or three years back. The videos didn't work for me at all !! Yours are crisply partioned which makes them more acessible. For years I've wanted to be able to CFD which is now available!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!
Incredibly helpful tutorial! Thank you so much! As a person with no experience with 3d design tools stumbling my way around the program has felt clunky and difficult. Just finishing this second tutorial I feel like I can do a lot of cool things now pretty easily. Excited to continue the series.
Yes!!! I'm trying to find a way to build outside of 3design. I can't wrap my head around only having a 2d sketch. It's like scrapping years of experience and starting from scratch
Congratulations on providing an easy-to-follow tutorial which is clearly explained. I find some other tutorials a bit on the quick side but your style suits me perfectly. Thank you.

Gotten a hang of FreeCAD since a year ago?
I found your channel after searching up FreeCAD tutorials after getting FreeCAD. I am a complete CAD beginner, I have never used any form of parametric design software before and your videos have helped me to get my head around this as someone who is self-teaching. Brilliant content! Cant wait for Part 3.
This tutorial is really easy to follow. You mention every single click as you're doing it which is very helpful.
I totally agree. I find myself stopping and go back in the video and looking for the correct icon e.g. Otherwise very nice
This man is the business...the tutorial explains everything in small, logical steps...and at a relaxed pace, giving you time to digest the information without having to constantly re-wind the video...which with some tutorials can be a right ballsache ! Would you be interested in an updated basic course for version 1.0 ?
I already commented you as a wonderful teacher. Now it is essential to thank the innovator of FreeCAD and coworkers.
I looked into FreeCAD because I was curious in the past and it was hard to get into it without a goal. Now I got a 3D printer and have things I want to do. Your tutorials are very clear and best I've seen so far, subscribed to see more. Thanks!

@@FreeCADAcademy hey pls upload more
the part 3?
This is brilliant! Clear, concise, easy to follow - a great example of teaching. I hope you will have the time to produce more.
It took me two hours to go through this tutorial. I paused after every action and tried it myself. I started of at zero knowledge, and I learnt a lot in this turorial. Thank you so much!! Time for lesson 3.
I've been using FreeCAD for quite a few years and I never knew about the Polyline M key function.
Thank you.
I like your way of teatching a lot, calmly and pedagogically.
I look forward to more lessons from you.
Thank you for doing this.
I am a beginner and am learning so much, please do more !....cheers.
Glad you learned something for me. I'll keep making these tutorials - no worry! Thanks a lot!
After having been "modelling" technical parts in Blender like a complete noob, your tutorials make me go "woah" every 2 minutes. Thank you so much!
Great tutorial! I learned more handy shortcuts in 20 minutes than I picked up myself with hours of tinkering in FreeCAD!
Best channel to learn FreeCAD! Very clearly explained. L love it!!!
Thank you so much for the support.
Flowie what a great tutorial. I know it takes a lot of time to produce a lesson. Just know it’s not falling on deaf ears. Thank you for your efforts i look forward to the next lesson.
Thanks Danny!

I am glad you can easily pick up these new concepts.
My luck is to find non-native English teachers - so understandable! Beside, very systematic and clear explained!
I'm surprised, and happy, that the way he says, "slot", didn't get the video taken down. It's a great video!
Love it !!! short and sharp, loud and clear!! Perfect + ... thank you!!

This series is great, I'm learning so much! Thanks!
Basics of sketching and constraints are very well explained in a simple language. Thank you.
Just the right speed. I like the demonstrations of the tools without the need to create a specific part. Thank you

By far one of the most user friendly tutorials on CAD I found on entire youtube.
Excellent tutorial!
ProTip:

Wow wow wow. I got absolutely nowhere trying Freecad by myself. I have viewed a few videos but your logical progression and clear explanations are outstanding teaching. Thanks so much. I intend watching your enture series now that you have given me renewed hope of becoming comfortable with Freecad.
I love the slow pace and clear instructions. Thank you for a great learning tool.
You are true teacher, teaches everything with great detail and examples.
Thank you, this series is awesome. Watching while following along in the program has lowered the so-called steep learning curve and made it fun.
I thank you for your effort to create an easy to follow video . Your tutorial is excellent !!
Thank you very much, Nissim!
I am learning cad for the first time. I will follow your lessons Thank You for helping me

I am a beginner here and would like to thank you very much for your lessons, your method is simple, ordered, and valuable.
Interesting and crystal clear instructions so far. I will continue to watch the following tutorials.
Really clear tutorial. I don't think I would be able to get so much, so quickly just by using the documentation.
What a great tutorial. FIrst time I have actually been able to create an object in a 3D Cad program and actually understand what needs to be done to achieve this.
I will play around for a short while, with what I have learned before moving to next tutorial video.

I'm certainly in agreement with all the previous comments: you do an excellent job of explaining a very complex subject ! Thank you!
I'm an experienced designer trying out FreeCAD for my personal use and your tutorials are great!
Your explanations are very didactic and enlightening. Congratulations.
Good times.. Good time. You are RoCkiNg my beginner CAD WORLD.

fantastic good way to spend my Sunday afternoon but this is leading me to buy my first CNC machine i will continue to watch and learn thamkyou
Superb. One of the best teaching methods I have ever seen. Simple but complete.
