I feel you on the natural hair! I will say though when I became a straight natural hair girly I noticed my hair grew a lot more and longer and I didn’t experience breakage like I did when I was a curly natural. As you say though, where you live at plays a big part in your silk presses and with you living in Florida…girlllllaaa I feel you! 😂
I became a straight natural last year, piling on heat protetant, deep conditioning weekly or bi-weekly, curl bond monthly and so far curls are still intact. I love a good Farrah Facet feathered look, so it was goodbye to full time curly girl
Please don’t feel any type of way!! This is your channel and your hair. You have to do what’s comfortable for you!! I’ve been on a straight natural journey since October. I was having the same guilt as you but I press my hair once a month if that… I also go to the gym consistently so if it lasts, it lasts, but if not, I’ll do twist outs in between. But the natural hair was too much and I felt so guilty for slicking it back constantly. And I honestly feel like straightening once every few weeks is better than the breakage I would be causing with constant slick back styles. But do what works for you!!!
Exactly the slick backs and tension isn’t healthy anyway it’s really just breaking the stigma in my mind because I truly think my hair will be better for it. Thank you for sharing❤️
I’m definitely with you on taking a break from wedding planning! I definitely had the same experience over the past few weeks and had to literally just STOP. It’s normal and I’m glad you chose to focus on what’s important because I’m at the point where as long as i have venue dress and my man i don’t care about the rest of
To be honest, I have been going through it with my natural hair too, wondering if I wanna be a straight natural. However, this is the first year where I’m learning to do my own hair and investing in loving it so it’s hard. I feel you on that one.
Hey love ❤I’m so glad you expressed your feelings about your hair! When I started my creator journey I decided at the same time to end my 5 yr curly hair journey. I decided that with the content I do (makeup content) it would be way too time consuming. 2 years later I found a medium: kinky straight sew ins , ponytails & braids. It was the best decision to let go of the fear of changing my hair.
Heyyy Candice mamassss 👋🏾 It’s always so good to see you beautiful face 😍😍😍 Thank you so much for posting and sharing your updates and relationship advice with us cause we could always use some girl talk time 💕 We love to see you grow! Keep going babygirl ✊🏾 Love you ❤
I felt the wanting to go to straight natural! I am def leaning in that direction too! Also, intentionality in 2025 is a MUST for me! It has helped in so many areas of my life! Also helps with the stress of it all!
Yes about the natural hair fears! I went through this last year! I'd wore my curls exclusively for about 8+ years and I got to a place where I wanted to straighten my hair but i was also so afraid of damaging my curls as well. What helped me get out of my own way was being real with myself admitting that I had made my curls my identity and that was extremely unhealthy for me. In my mind, I felt like i would be losing myself if I straightened my hair. I was doing the absolute most 😂 But as I transitioned into my 30s, I realized that I deserve to give myself room to evolve and to try new things as I get older and seasons changed and I dont have to marry myself to one look or one hair style because my hair doesn’t define me. I also told myself that i may damage my curls but I can transition or big chop and get them back and I didnt have to make things so life and death. Ultimately, im now a straight hair natural and love wearing my hair in big bouncy curls and rollering my hair at night. Its been fun trying something new and seeing me and what I like for me in this season.
I relate to the natural hair and getting tired of it. I actually did a big chop last year and immediately regretted it and went through a huge lack of confidence and insecurity after the chop. I was beyond confident before I cut it and looking back on my length and the way the mini twists made it grow made me soooo upset with myself. It’s to the point I don’t even take pictures anymore unless I have braids 😢 . The growth process is there but definitely gonna take a minute to get where I was.
I’ve been natural my whole life but stopped straightening my hair consistently 12 years ago. I’m still loving my curls but I have been tired of dealing with my hair at this point in my life (29 y/o). I’m not interested in wigs, weaves, braids as my hair is pretty fine naturally and those things are more upkeep for me. Straight hair is a lot for me too because I like to workout and don’t want the risk of sweating it out and trying to manage it. I’ve been loving low manipulation styles. I’ll wear my hair in twists (not mini because I have no patience lol) and put them in a bun or doing two braids to the back or even some regular buns or space buns in the back (loose buns to prevent tensions and constant slicking down). I’ve been doing my hair and washing it every two weeks too and it’s been helpful for me to retain length and the overall health of my hair.
Hey girl! I resonated with what you said about in this video! Everyone has to do whets best for themselves and what's makes them happy! We all can't please mofos so.. we just need to live life!
Girl… I straightened my hair in November and it was straight for a whole month, never had that happen in my life. When I washed my hair I had damage. Seeing the straight pieces on the end and they just refuse to curl is heartbreaking. Now I’m tryna get them back right. They’re about 70% back to curly but no it’s not worth it. And I’ve straightened my hair before and NEVER had that happen. Idk what I did but it was the straightest my hair has ever been lol. But it just wasn’t worth it. Maybe once a year for Christmas but idk my heart hurts seeing and feeling my hair like this… anyway lol. BUT your hair will get better with time so 🤷🏽♀️ lol
the photog situation is sooo real! there’s a famous SF black photog who has an amazing eye for the shot but the editing is soooo overdone. when i picked my photog i literally got a minimalist who could coordinate the shot and had her signature edit on toning and makeup did the rest and i loveeee them
I feel like your hair journey and mine has been very similar. My hair was always full and voluminous maybe about 5 years ago but now I feel like my hair has thinned out. However, my curls are still there and just like you I am tempted to straighten it 😅 I don’t think I will, but I’m just trying to “find my go to hairstyle” because the styles aren’t hitting like they used to lol
Omg same I really think it’s hormonal at this point because the amount of density I’ve lost over the past two years is insane!! Hoping you find that style that works for you🫶🏽
Normalize Black women doing what they want with their hair Period! 💯 Wigs, weave, relaxer , locs, or fried dyed and laid to the side No more boxes or guilt in 2025
Natural hair is a JOB!!! I’m loc’d 4 year now because I’m a normal person who has work and kids and a social life and just don’t have time to spend doing hair but obviously still want to look/feel good. Do what makes your life easier
I am in the EXACT same place with my hair! Straight hair natural sounds nice but chile the way my curls have not been the same since I pressed it a few months ago? And I live in New Orleans. Immediately no. My hair was thriving before I colored it and pressed it ONCE. SO upsetting. The real issue is funds tbh 😭
I’ve been natural my whole life, even though I love it I’m kinda over it and want some change. I’m thinking bout relaxing it and doing a pixie cut soon.
Wait did I miss the age gap you and hubby has? I’m curious bc I’m in a similar situation and our 5 year age gap use to bother me soooooo much, me being older.
4 years! I would think about it a lot more when we first got together but honestly as long as the level of maturity is a match, age shouldn’t matter imo
The judgement in the natural hair world is still ridiculous. Do what works for you. I’m 11 years in and I feel like I’ve fallen in love again with my hair. As much as I love my wash n gos now, my ends don’t like it. It’s just so easy to apply product and sit underneath a dryer for 25 minutes vs it taken an hour and a half to do twists that I want to stay in for a week before I take them down
Exactly doing what’s best for me is all I can care about at this point, I’m sure it was also help me fall back in love with my curls just need a little break. Thanks for the perspective!

Right I honestly feel like I’ll take better care of it and stay on top of trims etc. better because the slicking it back not serving me anyway!

The intro-Period!! 💯👏🏾
🤗🫶🏽
Choosing a man that doesn’t find value in those prescriptive gender roles is key . Love that for you ❤
🎯🎯🎯
Your point on choosing how you should improve your hair is really ideal because I feel you should go further on how you want to style your hair
That intro caught me off guard 😂😂 Yessss 👏🏽

I went straight and I still have my curls. Type 4 at that. Straight has saved me so much stress and time!
Period!

Yes that’s exactly what I feel like I need, a good medium where I can have the best of all worlds. Thank you for sharing!🫶🏽

You’re personality is such a light ! I be cracking up at you! Love your videos
Now this is my favorite compliment lol thank you so much!!
13:33 Definitely go curly for the wedding!! Even if it puffs up you can slick it into a really cute high curly pony by time the reception starts!✨
Definitely!!

Becoming a straight hair natural & I love it.

This year might be the year!

Do a wig/ lace type of style. They can style the hair anyways you like.
Hi! Can you do a makeup tutorial like what you did in this video please??
This is the tutorial😭
I’ve been natural my whole life, even though I love it I’m kinda over it and want some change. I’m thinking bout relaxing it and doing a pixie cut soon.
Girl do it, I love a pixie cut!
Currently dealing with heat damage and it’s so hard to reverse. I want my healthy curls back 😭
Aww😓 it’ll grow back healthier than ever
I wish I could enter giveaways but I don’t have an IG😩
Also… getting older. I don’t like the same natural styles! I need a grown look that’s complimenting!
Wait did I miss the age gap you and hubby has? I’m curious bc I’m in a similar situation and our 5 year age gap use to bother me soooooo much, me being older.
