    hey mate! its nice to see you being consistent with the videos, I am a mechanic myself but found your video on changing the valve covers on the 3.6 useful. I had my 3.6 for 28k miles, from 130k to 158, I put my foot down gently going off a friends driveway and suddenly the exhaust started smoking and lost power. the engine was running but wouldn't rev past 1k. I thought I'd blown a turbo but then removed the oil filler cap and it was puffing out like a train, I turned off and tried restarting and the engine had totally seized. I'm yet to tear it apart but im definitely going to rebuild this amazing machine. It definitely wasn't EGR related as I had fitted blanking caps to avoid that failure. It hasn't put me off owning one because it's so good but is disappointing as I'd changed the oil using OEM specified shell helix every 5k miles and spent a huge amount doing preventative maintenance . I hope you don't suffer the same fate that I have.

      Hi! Oh no, I'm so sorry to read this! 😢 Thank you for warning me! And don't give up, definitely work on it and let me know how it goes! I'm glad you don't feel put off by this, as ultimately it can happen to any car. I've found the Range Rover easy to work on! I'm really glad you've found the videos helpful, and please do let me know how you get on with fixing the engine issue! Good luck mate! 👍🏻

      @@lifeasusual Thanks for the reply, its nice to connect with someone on UA-cam that actually responds to their viewers! I bought a supercharged 5.0 2010 the very next day after it blew, fixing that one up first so I can fix it - it has ALOT of issues but I got it cheap. Will repair the 3.6 once I get the 5 litre going, the new car has left me with maxed out credit cards! Will definitely let you know how the 3.6 engine swap/rebuild goes and what failed on the engine. All the best mate.

      Have you considered swapping the 3.6 to the 5.0 rather than spending money on the 5 litre L322?

    • @Dpfdoctor
      @Dpfdoctor 5 місяців тому +1

      @@lifeasusual No, the whole car is different being its a 07 3.6 and 2010 Supercharged. the supercharged has a leaking vacuum pump (oil leak - sits under alternator at front), a noisy supercharger, a transfer case leak the 2 parts of the casing where it mates together is silicone so that needs removing and resealing, and the entire of the rear car is rusty the rear jacking point just jacked up into the car and fell off the rust is horrendous but only at the back the fronts not so bad, so need to weld it all. I was suprised to see that the 5l uses 0w20 oil its very thin. It goes like hell but everyone keeps saying I need to buy a petrol station !

    • @Dpfdoctor
      @Dpfdoctor 5 місяців тому +1

      @@lifeasusual I forgot to mention that both rear shocks are bad too. They hold air and don't leak but they have a canister attached to them and apparently this goes bad and causes them to be inoperable. it feels like It bounces down the road when going over a bump, on the old 07 model when my front shocker burst it just wouldn't hold air and so was obvious it was the faulty part.

    Good vid! I'm after a decent up market car mainly for towing a caravan. it was either a Volvo XC60 D4/5 (or V60 Cross Runner) or Jaguar Sportbrake 3.0D s Portfolio. However I saw an old Range Rover Vogue whilst out on a bike run with my mates over the weekend and then this video popped up! So after looking at a few on Auto Trader, the 3.6 or 4.4 (diesels) have joined the list. Had a look at your channel and there seems some good info there (watched the oil leak vid in the rain under cover - would've been interesting to see how long that took). I've subbed just in case I go down the RR route, only thing putting me off is the high tax costs.

      Hi Haris! Thank you for the positive feedback, im really glad you enjoyed the video! To be honest, some people are not convinced about the reliability of Range Rovers, but take a look at this video. Maybe it will help because I talk about old cars in general, and I compare the old Range Rover with newer cars overall. I'll leave the link here for you - ua-cam.com/video/fmO0TC3zwsQ/v-deo.html

      Thank you Pedro, I'm glad you're enjoying the videos and finding them valuable! 👍🏻 If you buy an L322 I'd definitely recommend doing the jobs yourself, I found it quite easy and the only thing you need to put in is your time, but it helps you save a lot of money in the long run. I made a lot of videos on the jobs so please feel free to view them on the channel. If you end up buying another one, let me know which one you went for! I'm happy with my 3.6 V8, but I've heard a lot of people being happy with their 4.4s too, which seems to be the most popular option (the 4.4). Keep in touch!

    • @shanewaterman4125
      @shanewaterman4125 5 місяців тому +1

      I went for the 4.4 after doing a LOT of research. Clincher for me was the reason why LR changed the turbo manufacturer from the one who made them for the 3.6 - LR themselves 'weren't happy with them'. I've found the 4.4 more economical than figures quoted for the 3.6, and this tends to be down to the 8sp gearbox - which is about as good a box as you're ever going to get (it's the ZF 8sp fitted in a range of top end/powerful cars) A lot of purists mock it for not having a proper gearshifter, but after using it for 3 months now, I like it and it looks a lot neater IMHO. Horses for courses though - go for what YOU want to own, not what anyone else tells you you SHOULD own....

      @@lifeasusual thanks Fahed. I previously had a 4.4 Westminster. It let me down twice on a trip to Portugal for stupid little things (1 - fuel filter broke where the pipe connects to and there was diesel everywhere, 2 - a wire to the oxygen sensor stopped working making the car go into limp mode) so I lost confidence in the car and got myself a BMW X5 who I recently sold after a trouble free ownership. But there is a sense of occasion when you drive the Range Rover that you don't have with an X5. And the Range Rover is way more comfortable as well. I am paying attention to the market to see if I can find a really good one at a good price.

      Currently I have a Jaguar XJ with the exact same gearbox, I agree with you, it is as good as it gets for a gearbox, I also had 2 BMWs with that gear box, its pure velvet.
      The 4.4 is probably the one I will go for, just looking at the market and wait to see a good example at a really good price!

    Hi Fayed - my tyres were nowhere near the prices you were quoting. Pirelli Scorpions (20") £222 per corner. Does depend what tyres you want of course, off roadies often costing more.
    Insurance: i have 50% full business/50% private, 12k miles/yr. Admittedly i have over 10 years NCB, but i paid about £1250 FC. Given the type of vehicle, I didn't think that was too bad. A lot of the horror stories about Insurance quotes are often one-sided (they don't tell you the whole story!) or they just don't shop around.
    Other parts prices (even from LR) are broadly similar with other upmarket/luxury cars. If you're moving up from a Fiesta to an l322, you're in for a ... 're-education process' on how much parts are.
