He's got a different ideology from Cao Cao, despite not hating Cao Cao as a person he couldn't simply bring himself to serve Cao Cao as that would go against his principles and values. What a true sigma male that is.
DW8 Xtreme Legends did it best with all three characters. Cheng Gong's and Lu Bu's arrogance did them in, and Zhang Liao acted with true principle. Not only that, but their facial animations, voice lines, and ambiance was phenominal. Even the bit with Lu Lingqui was so tear-jerking. You could really see the anguish on her face as she finally turns her back on her father and Lu Bu's protective instincts as her father.
Historically, it was Liu Bei who was the final word that condemned Lu Bu to death as Cao Cao was very close to recruiting him until Liu Bei reminded him of Dong Zhuo's betrayal and death at the hands of Lu Bu. At that moment, Lu Bu cursed and threatened Liu Bei for mentioning this to Cao Cao. For this, Cao Cao condemned Lu Bu to death by hanging. Cao Cao truly believed he did the world a favor by executing Lu Bu.
This is also a part of why I like 9 is because it shows how the three Leaders virtues and flaws shape them. Even if Lu Bu remains loyal because Cao Cao admires his strength he was no better than a Tyrant who believe might makes right rather than ambition. Funny how in Techi wo Kurau he doesn't do that and uses Lu Bu as his triumph card
@@MrAsaqe Actually historically, Cao Cao was a good man but felt he had to be harsh and sometimes cruel to achieve his goals. This is why he respected Liu Bei despite them being enemies. They had similar goals, but how they went about them, is what made them enemies in the end. Cao Cao is portrayed as evil or cruel because he showed that side in his campaigns against Wu and Shu. He showed them what they needed to see. Hero, Villian, Conqueror, Savior. Those words applied to Darth Revan in Star Wars but those same words could be applied to others like Cao Cao. Or Nobunaga Oda. After doing some research into Cao Cao, I came to understand him better as a whole and the situation he was put into in his life. Its about stepping back to see the entire picture. If anyone was about selfish gains for power, that was his advisor that replaced Guo Jia....Sima Yi. Cao Cao knew Sima Yi was a threat to all he fought for, but at the same time he was too invaluable to throw away either.
Can we just talk about the fact that Lu Bu's and Cao Cao's voice actors are SO iconic? Like, if I met any of them in real life I would assume I'm talking to resurrected warriors that lived two thousand years ago. Furthermore, HOW could Koei think that changing their voice actors for DW9 was a good idea? Now when I'm playing it, I'm no longer scared shitless when I see Lu Bu on the battlefield, like I was in previous games. I'd literally take time for a 30 minute prayer before crossing blades with him at Hu Lao Gate. Most of the time, I couldn't even deliver a single blow at him because he was always the ULTIMATE boss, even when you're literally on the second mission. But in DW9, you can firstly die of laughter because his new voice actor is really funny, and you can also kill him with only your Musou attack. They really fucked up. Also why is Lu Lingqi's weapon changed? It was also really iconic to see her inherit her father's legendary weapon in DW8, where she was possibly the strongest female character (when she's upgraded to the fullest), but now she has the same weapon as Xing Cai and I'm already over her, even if she's my favorite character. Disappointed.
In Dynasty Warriors Empires 9, they reinstated the crossed blade for Lu Lingqui, but still too lazy to match her Musou with it, she just reverts to sword and shield musou
I thought this was common knowledge but there was a big strike with voice actors going on when DW9 was in production and as a result the normal English VAs were unavailable and they had to change them to a bunch of lower tier and unknown people.
Didn't like how they depicted chen gong's death in 8 but 9 was a lot closer to his real life event. He was one of the best strategists around but he chose the worst leader to follow.
The new voice actor of Chen gong wasn't that bad he just had unnecessary pauses. I feel if the new voice actor simply retook his lines and delivered them better he would be a great voice actor.
Yeah, he had potential but it truly felt like they were reading the scripts pretty... bland with their acting experiences, especially I see most of those actors who voices other open world online games.
Dw 8 XL Is the most spectacular scene, even Lu bu make his daughter escape, and before getting killed he even free himself and try to win,Is amazing. I like to see Lu Bu more of a honorable, still indipendent warrior how he is.
Chen Gong is a Hans vassal, he choose Lubu because of his foolish so one day, he will backstab Lubu when everything is done. Those clever people like Cao Cao or Liubei is not suitable for that role. Beside, Cao Cao always known to aim for the emperor title himself, a Hans Vassal shall never serve a people like him.
In DW9 he was portrayed quite well, I actually found the discussion between him and Cao Cao quite good. Cao Cao desperately wants him to join, and so tells him that he will kill his men unless he surrenders and bends the knee, Chen Gong then states that the victor would dictate the rules, which puts the blame on Cao Cao if anything happens to his men, regardless of whether Chen Gong bends the knee or not, smartly allowing him to oppose Cao Cao, whilst also saving the lives of his men.
@@Voldrim359historically they didn't even beated him. The moment the castle got flooded he just drank until passed out and his soldiers tied him up and brought him to Cao Cao. I always imagined that he learned about diao Chan being a spy and that she was controlling him that got him into drinking but then I learned that she's either not real or such a small character in history that they didn't bother recording her.
Lu Bu was not big on logistics but he did have a mind for strategy and combat all these representations of him as a total moron for the strength are ridiculously inaccurate and he did betray several he served but not without a valid reason especially considering his adoptive father tried to murder him so Lu Bu just killed him first. He even surrendered to save lives of his men when he could've fought to the bitter end and take many, many of the enemy with him.
It's always good to have someone point it out in the comments. The character portrayals in DW are hysterical and comical, but not everyone might catch that.
I wish the portion with Chen Gong was a little more in line with the book, it's a very powerful moment that shows a little more of the human side of Cao Cao.
Though, the philosophical advise from Chen Gong makes some power stuff for Cao Cao to think about. I wonder if it was one of the reasons that made him recruit Zhang Liao.
With DW8 XL, the situation was awkward and how they portrayed the characters was out of character. With DW9, the situation was so childish. "It's called strategy, Lu Bu." - What was this written by, your average 8th grader?
According to the Romance of Three Kingdoms Era, Cao Cao was about to let Lu Bu Serve under him but then Liu Bei reminded Cao Cao that Lu Bu once served under Dong Zhuo. Lu Bu barked threats at Liu Bei but those were to be the last words he ever spoke. The ever Not-so-Popular Dynasty Warriors Anime didn't portray that at all but Kongmeng could have wrote an entire Manga on what happened during that era. In other scenario games like Dynasty Tactics, You can let Lu Bu live but Lu Bu had a history of Betrayal in his ranks of Officers so that much was also something to keep in mind. My Brother was playing it at one time. Let Lu Bu Join Cao Cao and Xiahou Dun Betrays you. Not only that, Expect a VERY Long Game. The Time was maxed out to 99:59 on how many battles were fought after that. Also.... How "Smart" is Lu Bu?
Honestly...I think an alternate ending where Lu Bu just kinda overpowers them all and escapes after killing a bunch of peons would be damn cool, just see him raging and fully demonstrating how much stronger the was than all of them. Maybe that's just me tho
Yea I'm pretty convinced that the best Adaptation of this Tale is by the Manga "Ravages of Time", also their Lu Bu is just so much more thoughtful... And not just a stupid Brute
He is regarded as a stupid brute because he was really great at battle but sucked politically an awful at keeping allies because he keepd betraying them
Historically speaking, Lu Bu let himself get captured and executed and the last words that he said was "Boring" Edit: this came From the animated show titled Ragnarok, but I don't recommend watching it since Netflix made it shit, just read the comic version
The one case with his daughter getting involved in the attempt to save his life but he safrificed his life to save his daughters is something not worthy.
That scene in DW8, is unforgettable. I come back to watch it every now and then. I grew up with dynasty warriors, lu bu was more than just some hard-to-beat enemy, or a vagrant badass. He was an icon, and always has been. That DW8 death scene, was the death scene he deserved.
What happened with DW9’s voice acting? It’s some of the worst video game voice acting I’ve ever heard. The voice actors from DW7 and 8 were perfect in my opinion
while i never played any of the dynasty warriors, i only have total war 3 kingdoms, Lu Bu is still just as much of a powerful beast in it as he is portrayed in this series
if only they'd had made the levels more interactable, and populated the open world a little more instead of mixing the open world with the battle levels in 9 it might have been good.....sads, ah well maybe with ten they'll figure it out
The real story behind lu bu feng xian death is Lu bu was crying because no one in the china can defeat him no one can stand againts his strength equally. Im from that era. A time traveler😊
Cao cao is quite the interesting character. He makes mistakes without realizing it but he'll listen to your side of the story as well. Cao Cao himself knows we all need to be challenged and that he's no exception. Unlike Lu Bu. That said I think killing Lu Bu is a bad example in Cao Cao's grand plans of peace. Kill one monster, another takes their place. Maybe ten. Making the best from the worst is difficult and hard. Perhaps the hardest thing one can ever do. But if you can make the best from the worst and get someone that stubbon to believe in an idea then that's something that can't be killed. Pick any fight, conflict or empire that crumbles to dust because of the "I see the worst of you" attitude. Even Cao Cao's empire falls victim to this. Makes me wonder what would have happened if someone went up to Cao Cao and went "There's two kinds of people in this world. The monsters themselves and those that make them without even knowing". But that would contradict with the lore. But it could be good for the alternate history route. Would also need to have a character that really talks on Cao Cao's level that challenges his viewpoints and asks good questions throughout the game.
This Dynasty Warriors 7 and 8 in Cutscene looks like Speaking English in English Dub when Dynasty Warriors 9 in Cutscene looks like Speaking Japanese in Chinese and English Dub.
Horrible. *They're all bad.* Although if I had to pick, *DW5 and DW7 are the best ones.* The latter ones have childish writing and boil it down to "Lu Bu is so dumb that he's never even heard of the word *_strategy_* before." The DW5 one was great because Zhang Liao was simply trying to enlighten his former lord on how to behave and didn't come off as cocky. The DW7 one was good because it successfully showed Cao Cao using minimal effort to make his decisions, while also showing that Liu Bei would've probably handled the situation differently / with more difficulty (without shoving any of those points down your throat). The other ones make the characters too dumb and dramatic. They turned Cao Cao into a big-mouthed extrovert who talks too much and made Liu Bei an overly confident individual. It's off putting.
*WW2 version* General McArthur: Well, does any of you have some last words? Hitler: If you strike me down, i shall become more powerful than i ever was! General McArthur: *shoots Hitler* Anyone else? Mussolini: McArthur! I've heard you seek for allies. Then use me! The world will be yours! Hitohito: Mussolini! You bring shame to your honor! I have no right to speak. General McArthur: Hmm...there's more to you than that. Wanna team up with me against the communists?
Its a damn shame they have yet to due Chen Gong narrative justice. Not only was he a good man, who helped Cao Cao escape at the cost of his position because he thought Cao was noble, only to abandon him when he saw what a ruthless monster Cao could be when he murdered an entire family over a misunderstanding. THAT is why he sought out the strongest warrior- Because he was afraid of what Cao would mean for the nation if he won. When he was captured, both he AND Zhang Liao met their fate with dignity (while Lu Bu whined like a little girl). Cao BEGGED Chen Gong to join him, but he refused and walked to the headsman himself, Cao crying and begging him the whole way. Come on, Koei. He has a great design, but do him narrative justice! Maybe the scene with Cao killing that family over a comment about a pig is just too dark for them to do...I dont think it is...Its a missed opportunity that they havent represented that part yet, and how it bound the fate of Chen Gong and Cao Cao for all of history!
In Souten Kouro, it's not that Chen Gong was good, but that he wanted to _look_ good. He didn't oppose Cao Cao for moral reasons, but that he felt serving Cao Cao would give him a bad look.
@@DarkAdonisVyers If that were true though, he wouldn't have given his life for honor as he did. Evil men don't die for causes. Honorable men do. He would have begged and whined, like Lu Bu and Dong Zhuo.

I think 7/8 was more accurate with their dialogue though?
@@clayandros2038 Ya, the best "history" is always a forgery. The real deal is always boring and ugly.
@@clayandros2038 nah 9 is more accurate
Set it on 7 and take him on.
In Dynasty Warriors Empires 9, they reinstated the crossed blade for Lu Lingqui, but still too lazy to match her Musou with it, she just reverts to sword and shield musou
Lu Linqgi is my favourite too
I thought this was common knowledge but there was a big strike with voice actors going on when DW9 was in production and as a result the normal English VAs were unavailable and they had to change them to a bunch of lower tier and unknown people.
@@Nicolas_Cage_Bees How could that be "common knowledge", unless you're a fanatic lmao
the voice acting was actually improving with each game, dw9 really comes off like they fired everyone who worked on the previous games.
Cao Cao always the badass even when you don’t play his story.
I really like how Zhang Liao is the most honorable among them in every game! He's my second favorite character after Xiahou Dun.
Cao Cao:" Will you reject me, or will you die here?"
Chen Gong: Both
Didn't like how they depicted chen gong's death in 8 but 9 was a lot closer to his real life event.
"Strength is the ability to make that which you believe in a reality." - Zhang Liao, 7 February 199
Dw 8 XL Is the most spectacular scene, even Lu bu make his daughter escape, and before getting killed he even free himself and try to win,Is amazing. I like to see Lu Bu more of a honorable, still indipendent warrior how he is.
Can we talk about how much of an OG Zhang Liao is with his honour and pride???
Zhang Liao also Chen Gong... I don't get the names
2:40 - 3:02 When you fail the final exam but your friend passes.
Chen Gong was an honorable man. He wasn't depicted very well here. He had a grudge against Cao Cao and so would never join him.
@Frank Guo I never knew that.
@Frank Guo historically, thats a lie. Cao Cao never met chen gong when he fled from dong zhuo
@Frank Guo to begin with. chen gong never follow cao cao to be "left"
R.I.P Lu Bu
The most àsshøle enemies ever
They should have let him die in the battlefield, that kind of death in personal... Is a waste
😂😂😂
@@Mayhzon its the koei way.
DW8XL portrayed Chen Gong like some pretentious and arrogant person. I'm glad he changed in 9.
They were totally off with him. But then Dynasty Warriors was never too accurate with their character portrayals.
And then he had to fight a fucking thor
My man can't even catch a rest
Fighting is resting for him
To be fair, he's pretty happy about it
I wish the portion with Chen Gong was a little more in line with the book, it's a very powerful moment that shows a little more of the human side of Cao Cao.
Dw 8 Lu bu is the only game that has a pride to have his own decisive death rather than serve cao cao until very end
Have to admit, Cao Cao did the best move by recruiting Zhang Liao. Lu Bu was great but no to be trusted, i would just put him in prison.
Wow DW9 voices are ATROCIOUS :(
american actors and voice actors were on strike during that year
Lu bu voice in other DW are better

6:53 Thanks, I didn't want to sleep tonight
I think DW8 XL ending was the most epic...Number 9 seems the worst because of the terrible voice acting
Though, the philosophical advise from Chen Gong makes some power stuff for Cao Cao to think about. I wonder if it was one of the reasons that made him recruit Zhang Liao.
On the contrary, Chen Gong's ending in DW9 seems like the best one when using Japanese dub.
And how is the voice acting terrible?
And how?
Zhang Liao in dw7 was my dude hands down all time fav.
Honestly...I think an alternate ending where Lu Bu just kinda overpowers them all and escapes after killing a bunch of peons would be damn cool, just see him raging and fully demonstrating how much stronger the was than all of them. Maybe that's just me tho
It's been a year, but DW 6 was just that
Yea I'm pretty convinced that the best Adaptation of this Tale is by the Manga "Ravages of Time", also their Lu Bu is just so much more thoughtful... And not just a stupid Brute
He is regarded as a stupid brute because he was really great at battle but sucked politically an awful at keeping allies because he keepd betraying them
Lu bu always rocking the pray mantis hat
chen gong is like zhuge liang black haha
Hmm.
And Sima Yi is like Zhuge Liang Blue
And Hanbei is like me young.
No way....
Historically speaking, Lu Bu let himself get captured and executed and the last words that he said was "Boring"

Cao Cao's voice actor even reminds me of the narrator/Xiaho Dun from DW3
"And so boo-hoo, Lu Bu was executed"
That scene in DW8, is unforgettable.
I come back to watch it every now and then.
I grew up with dynasty warriors, lu bu was more than just some hard-to-beat enemy, or a vagrant badass. He was an icon, and always has been.
That DW8 death scene, was the death scene he deserved.
What happened with DW9’s voice acting? It’s some of the worst video game voice acting I’ve ever heard.
The voice actors from DW7 and 8 were perfect in my opinion
8XL is by far my favorite of the series. Adding the hypothetical routes was the most innovative thing they've done with the series in decades lol!
while i never played any of the dynasty warriors, i only have total war 3 kingdoms, Lu Bu is still just as much of a powerful beast in it as he is portrayed in this series

DW9 is just horrendous for replacing their iconic voice actors. WORST decision ever.
Zhang liao is so dam underrated. Hes the lu bu cao cao always wanted. He fei would be so different if zhang liao died.

0:08 I’m a bad bitch, you can’t kill me!

Dynasty warriors 7 had best cut scenes, best quotes and best music, for me it is the best DW game so far.
His Japanese voice is best IN MY OPINION
Never did I ever searched for this and, yet, here we are
No matter Lu Bu or Guan Yu they both die at the hand of that monster. Damn you Cao Cao
This Dynasty Warriors 7 and 8 in Cutscene looks like Speaking English in English Dub when Dynasty Warriors 9 in Cutscene looks like Speaking Japanese in Chinese and English Dub.
I'm here to thank this man for representing humanity against Thor.
Shitt!!! I miss your voice Zhang Liao (DW8) 😢😢
9:04 did lubu die standing
Gotta give it to Cao Cao for being a fair judge of character.
Horrible. *They're all bad.* Although if I had to pick, *DW5 and DW7 are the best ones.* The latter ones have childish writing and boil it down to "Lu Bu is so dumb that he's never even heard of the word *_strategy_* before."
The DW5 one was great because Zhang Liao was simply trying to enlighten his former lord on how to behave and didn't come off as cocky.
That's an interesting take.
DW7 was an exercise in cinematic style for the series. A pity we haven’t seen that since
:V, deam you Liu Bei, shut up ! 12:22
