He’s back for his vengeance
I actually love the sheer contrast between Ichiro's actions in CoC and CoV due to the butterfly effect in the narrative. In CoC, Ichiro turns to Abdiel to support in a sort of mother-son relationship, which doesn't get rid of his overall humanity, and they establish quite a nice rapport because of that, especially during the Chiyoda arc. You can even see when Ichiro, in the "Uphold God's order" ending, states he doesn't want to kill Yuzuru, and Abdiel hopes that, by defeating Koshimizu, he'll surrender peacefully.
But, since we don't get to Chiyoda in CoV, Ichiro and Abdiel actually don't establish any rapport. She only seems him as a fellow Law fighter and doesn't develop. Mastema outright enables Ichiro's worst impulses by doing... something to him that it's heavily implied to be brainwashing (like he did with Zelenin in Strange Journey). Thus Ichiro never looked up to Abdiel as a role model, instead focusing too much on whatever Mastema had to say. End result? Ichiro becomes just as a knight templar as Abdiel is at her worst.
It's very well done, and a sign of how Atlus's writing improved in Vengeance, although with the elements already shown in the original. Many people were too quick into hating on Ichiro (and even calling him the worst SMT character - bullshit when we have many MANY pieces of work even worse) when, arguably, he was the biggest victim of Mastema's manipulations.
But Ichiro went to Chiyoda. They probably still interacted and formed a bond. But yeah, it couldn't have been the same, especially since Naho wasn't there.
@PokemonaMoni the thing is. He went to Chiyoda with Nahobino-like powers. So Abdiel wasn't there to really support someone who had no confidence in himself. She was just an ally to someone who was smiting demons so easily
@@PokemonaMoni It's not about the protagonist being there or not. It's about Ichiro's own interactions. He didn't turn to Abdiel for support this time around. He wanted to make up for his flaws much sooner than that. So their only relationship was of work buddies instead of the closer mother-son-like from CoC. In her eyes, Ichiro was just someone who shared her views (remember that he is the one who pushed her to become a Nahobino before, yet he doesn't even consider the issue here).
In CoC it was a number of factors: Abdiel being the reliable pillar of support for him, he considering Koshimizu to be "hesitant" into ruling Bethel (of course, unaware that he wanted to break from the organization entirely), also Sahori and Tao's deaths by Lahmu (more so the former, since it is implied he liked Sahori in the original route) playing a big part on his conversion to Law. In CoV, we had Mastema's brainwashing power only.
@@tallflipkick We don't know that, we don't see how they become companions this time around. I understand you point but you're just assuming. Besides I'm pretty sure he was in Chiyoda before meeting Mastema too
What Mastema does is simply give him an easy means to access the power within. Ichiro is still himself.
Which is all the more chilling that all it takes for him to take this chance is him getting a little bit of power and letting it go to his head.

Vengeance made Yuzuru into such a good and likeable character to the point where I was kinda rooting for him, seeing him get killed so early was absolutely devastating ngl
I have to admit, whilst I was upset over the death of Yuzuru, Aogami's death was a gut punch. After going through the first game with him supporting us and then a good chunk of Vengenance with him, I admit, I cried a little.
The menu theme motif during the aogami speech left with a void in the chest, i didn't recognized it at first, but it sounded familiar, AND i just realized that the menu theme doesn't play anymore from this point on in the game
Yeah, that really made an impression on me. Like it's actually Aogami's theme or something like that.
Yeah, I noticed during taito in my first run that something was missing while I was scrolling during the menus, loved this small detail
The reason you didnt get Eisheth's Essence is becauss you didnt kill Eisheth during the Qadistu fight once. You only took out Naahmah, Agrat, and Lilith
That sucks cause Eiseth Essence is like the earliest you can get Murdeous Glee and Critical Zealout

Make sure you stop by the interior of the Tokyo Diet Building in the first level and talk to the scientist lady or you will miss out on some special skills for Tsukuyomi.

I already had spoilers about yuzuru dying, but finally seeing how it happened stings. Like I kinda thought it’d be in some fight, but no, he was just completely manhandled. It stings, but it works to make the scene hit more harshly.
Overall this is a great transition into this part of the story, everything stings with what characters are left splitting up and Ichiro turning worse.
On other things, I like the tsukibino. His pants are nice, though the crescent finger blade kinda made me chuckle with how it looks. Plus, tsukiyomi specifically being a protofiend type is a detail I do not recall being in Coc, but honestly it really makes the “brothers” thing koshimizu referred to aogami by make more sense, in a way. They’re both artificial demons, pathways to a nahobino and artificial versions of two of japans sibling gods, so therefore they’d be “brothers” as well.
Oh, and I guess Yoko was Lilith’s knowledge, considering her floating into Yoko’s chest. So that crushes my dart board “Yoko is connected to eve” theory with Sonic speed, lol.
You are not entirely wrong on Yoko is connected to Eve though. In Israilliyat stories, Lilith was Adam's first wife before she sinned and turned into a serpent demon. Eve is then created to fill Lilith's gap and thus making Lilith to harbor jealousy and vengeful feelings towards Adam, Eve and The Creator. Yoko might be the reincarnation of both Lilith and Eve, thus making her to possess Goddess of Creation. Tao on the other hand is the reincarnation of Amaterasu, the other Goddess of Creation based on Japanese legend.

I personally like the Tsukuyomi proto fiend suit, it looks good.

Am I the only one that was sad when Yuzuru got merked? He was one of my favourite characters in the path of vengeance.
You aren’t. I was sad too. But not just that. I was mad at Ichiro Dazai for letting the power get to him and killing Yuzuru Atsuta. But above all else, I loathed Mastema for what he did. I bet he messed with Ichiro. As for Abdiel, I never liked her.
@@Fallen_2003 To be fair we don't even know how much of Ichiro is still there (at least a few of him remains since he doesn't allow Abdiel to kill the protagonist, indicating that, despite the bluster, a bit of affection remains). We never got to see what Mastema did to him, as well.

I felt genuinely sad after I saw this cutscene for the first time. And I felt lonely for the main character. Everyone is basically gone.
I love that Abdiel is annoyed she doesn’t get to kill a teenager.
I love that they brought my goddess, Tiamat, back in such a beautiful and awe inspiring form.
Definitely preferred over the SMTIV one (○//__//○)
@@Arcticanine Honestly, in general I think overall Doi has surpassed Kaneko in the sheer amount of designs I love. Are my favorite designs still ones made by Kaneko, yes. Yet when it comes to sheer number of designs I like, Doi has more now that I like.
@@macemaster5295 I agree, the newer ones seem more well-thought out and creative to me compared to the older ones. If I compare the designs of, lets say Shiva, I guess, the newer one is definitely better than the older (At least imo it is). Of course Kaneko is a legend in my mindspace who remains eternal considering how easy it was for me to immediately think of his works when a certain deity was mentioned, but one gotta appreciate how well made Doi's designs are.
I purposefully avoided all trailers for the game, and this scene just fucking wrecked me. I genuinely enjoyed Yuzuru and Ichiro -their dynamic was so wholesome and great (even if I did think they were a bit gung ho throughout the whole Egypt mission). So seeing Ichiro take such a turn after Mastema’s fuckery and outright kill Yuzuru felt so bad. Losing Tao, Yoko (I actually rather liked her character quite a bit up to this point), *and* Aogami on top of all of that, with Nuwa and Shohei seemingly getting offed on the side just makes this whole sequence feel like my easily-attached heart was violently ripped from my chest Dragons Dogma style. Feels bad, man

But it’s funny how the devs decided “hmmm Abdiel and Ichiro aren’t nearly evil enough to be Law reps let’s fix that.” Seriously even though Abdiel was a jerk in vanilla SMT5 her actions were done more out of desperation and Ichiro to some extent humanized her. Now they’re just scumbags
Well, I don't think they're the law reps here, so it kinda makes sense, I guess?
I wonder if Atlus is sort of rewriting their original intention behind Yuzuru-Tsukuyomi and Ichiro-Abdiel and making it more blatant: I got the vibe the former was "Chaos, but in a Lawful way" whereas the latter was "Law, but in a Chaotic way". Ichiro and Abdiel outright violated God's Law by becoming Nahobino, when Law is supposed to be adherence to God's Law and Word no matter what.
@@jmtheelitefan9616for the CoV path, yes. But what you described does represent the devs true intentions for the CoC alignments. Law and Chaos were meant to be a lot less extreme than usual. Funny how that ended up confusing parts of the fanbase that are so used to extremes in these games. This reaction might have motivated the devs devs to make CoV more traditional when it comes to alignments.
@@Nentsigniok I think it’s a more intriguing interpretation doing the CoC style. Abdiel constantly espoused adherance to God’s Law, yet ultimately ended up a Nahobino herself. Yuzuru wanted myriad deities, but solely to protect others and the home he loved when Chaos reps usually act out of selfish reasoning.
That's how you feel at the beginning too. You just sit there... Thinking... Planning... Telling yourself, "I should've done this or I should've done that... That was a prime example right there.
The best way to fight the Qadistu is to bring down all three of them except Lilith, so that Lilith could only bring one of the three back to life for every two Qadistu's turns. I recommend bringing down Naamah and Eisheth first since Agrat will likely to use Queen's Decree (that deals slight amount of scattered damages) while not in Omagatoki Critical state.

I always felt that Yuzuru would die because how else can you get Tsukuyomi but realising Dazai was the reason really hurts

Agreed, he looks more like Demi-Fiend now. Considering that they've been referencing Nocturne here and there, I love how they just show him like that.

Omnipotent Succession is busted on physical builds, it’s also pretty good on magic builds but still not as good as murakumo four times

Side note: Tiamat phaser blasting tf out of Shinjuku reminds me too much of the Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon, and I cannot stop making Yugioh jokes because of it. 🤣
Oh! Rewatching the Tsukuyomi explanation part I picked this up the second time after my shock wore off: they're standing in front of the Awagihara System that that one NPC researcher tells you about. If you remember her explanation, you'll be able to figure out whose tank is whose based on how much juice is in there (because I can't read their names in Japanese)

The reason why you didn't get Eisheth is because you didn't defeat her during the Qaditsu Fight, if you get rid of all of them at least once, you can get their essence.

The vengeance's story is alot cooler than the base game I love it.
I am sure that Ichiro Dazai is pretty relatable character, but just look how power can corrupt people. Unfortunately you have fallen into the Mastema plan, and this is why I Like the Chaos route much more.
Ps. You should use Naamah affinity essence, since it has a lot of benefits.

The Qadištu, Bane of all SMTVV Enjoyers. Seriously though, that fight is rough without a good centre-focused plan. It expects you to one-turn Naamah, Eiseth or Agrat while also pile the damage on Lilith simultaneously.

12:37 OKAY, so its Tiamat. They had to bring her back somehow and this was a pretty unique way to do it. So, is the Horned God supposed to be Marduk? That...actually makes sense since Marduk is the Storm God. Damn, they really went deep into this. I wasn't expecting the collision between different mythos, but I definitely like it.
14:15 My thought process on this is simple and straightforward. Any action that results in the death of an innocent or suffering of those who do not deserve it, is wrong. What the Horned God did probably resulted in the same as well and now they're again doing exactly that. I see no reason why they're not the same act of arrogance and self righteousness. Obviously, this though process of mine is bias towards Humans...because I AM A human lol... Morality is unique to each species, and isn't a universal concept, humans view iy significantly differently then Demons and Angels might. There are some similiarities but the base differences remain the same. Humans, Angels, and Demons will always act in a way that supports and guarrantees their life or the life of their future generations, even if it hurts another species. Thats why I see no "Righteous cause" here, even the main characters here aren't on some righteous cause---they're on one that benefits them both physically and emotionally.
Going back to my Neutral route argument and bringing up SMTIV once again, nothing was right or wrong there---even the neutral route wasnt because it did end in death of both Jonathan and Walter. Its just that the neutral route ended with many people still living of all three factions, which is why it seemed ideal. A true neutral route would be coexistence between ALL OF THEM. Which, might I add, was never gonna happen in that case so one had to go for the next best.
Thats all I have to say.
28:04 I have a feeling regarding what's about to happen. One of the researchers mentioned that there were several Aogami types, one of them being the strongest with only one active unit currently working. Our Combat-type wasn't the strongest, so considering we definitely can't become a Nahobino from another God or Tsukuyomi‐--we're probably gonna get the new Aogami type now.

Because Atlus noticed that siding with her in order to get the True Neutral ending in the previous route was BS, considering how little she interacts with you throughout the story.
For all the improvements Vengeance brought, it still didn't solve the issue of Nuwa and Yakumo being the biggest nothings in the whole story.
@@brtruev1710 they could've just left her looking pretty in the background 😭 (or done something more with her and Yakumo, but that takes more effort)

I'll only say that SMTVV would greatly benefit from a season pass.

Why didn’t they kill Koshimizu? The simplest answer is, for the plot. But if we were to bring logic into this, it’s likely bcs of his position & ties to bethel (as head of JP branch) or smth political like that. Also, I think the game mentions it at some point, in regards to baal or zeus, whom the angels killed the humans w their knowledge, thus no matter how powerful they are they can’t remake the world as nahobino. So in the law’s eyes, the gods/demons pose no threat as long as their knowledge is dead; meaning Koshimizu should be useless w/o atsuta. They obviously aren’t aware of the possibility of the ‘new fusion’, of course.
Demons have all sorts of ways to revive themselves but yes effectively kill their knowledge and the threat vanishes. Even Lucifer never regained his knowledge so for all his achievements could never be a threat to order.

I get why Tsukuyomi can fuse with the MC, but then, why Yuzuru as well?
No, they are able to fuse only because Tsukuyomi is a protofiend himself. MC is not his Knowledge. They can no longer [spoiler redacted] because their other halves are dead.

Tsukuyomi-type was made from the Susano-o Aogami types, apparently. I don't really like this myself, since Tsukuyomi is literally another God even if he's brothers with Susano-o but considering that they've literally had the same face for both and all---it makes sense I guess.
One of the researchers earlier mentioned that the strongest Aogami type, only one of them, was still there---I would've preferred if they went with that but Idk if they could and I'm just waffling lol.

Call this a hottake, but i really don't like the new gloves glowing purple. It's too bright! It should be dark purple and/or not glowing at all.

I ran both Tao and Idun for this, tho they also alternated between healing and light damage on Lilith. I wish I thought to get Konohana Sakuya before this fight, she would have helped a LOT.
