Y'all - for those of you who are struggling to "keep up"... Set your playback speed to a slower pace and work on keeping up with it that way. Once you can keep up, set it to the next higher speed. Keep going till you're at "normal". (See the wheel on the lower right of the video, next to the CC box.) This little idea has saved my life and I have learned soooo many more songs this way - not to mention, I've learned how to play so much faster as a whole because I set the playback speed to a level I can handle and then I move up as I get better.

@@jacobbrown8052 - I studied classical piano from kindergarten through college and I still had to slow this video down to be able to keep up. LOL! No shame in that. Nobody's gonna hear you play it till you've got it up to a good speed anyway so slow that playback speed down enough to learn it first. You'll learn it faster that way too. Happy learning and happy playing!

Add to what you teach yourself.

Really appreciate the visual format for following along. Only one suggestion: is it possible to add a preview for the next chord - just a small "Am" or "E7" to prepare us for the chord change?

Not sad but happy in my opinion. Somewhere over the rainbow your dreams will come true. Somewhere over the rainbow there's brighter things to come. I've never played an instrument of any kind before picking up this ukulele a few days ago... Omigosh, it's so fast, but so very very helpful, but omigosh so very very fast.
I really love the format, the tab with finger notation, the easy explanation of the strum pattern, the karaoke scrolling lyrics, the total lack of any superfluous and tiresome anecdotes or explanations(really, what other tutorials lack is understanding that we're here to practice, we don't need all the jibba jabba every single time we run it back. Lovely as all the fine people sharing love of this cheery instrument are, it's incredibly tedious to watch anyone count fingers after the very first time)... this is definitely the best tutorial I've seen BY FAR.
Having said that, I do just wish I could adjust the playback speed to give me time to fumble awkwardly while making the chord shapes as I baby step through this. No worries though. I can pause and write things down to practice till I'm ready to bring myself up to speed.
Seriously, a most sincere and hearty THANK YOU, you kind and merciful soul! This is absolute perfection!

Played a uke a little bit in the 60's when I lived in Hawaii, didn't think too much about it and I've played guitar now for over 40 yrs, but didn't consider the ukulele for years until IZ, and then Grace Vanderwaal won AGT last year, a 12 yr old with a Ukulele changed my thinking. Since then I've heard Uke's added to a lot of music and the effect is wonderful. Thanks for the tutorial - it's made understanding the chording and fret positions a lot easier!

Ian learn the chords until you don’t have to look at the fret board to play them. Then muck about playing them in any order, you’ll soon find what sounds good and what doesn’t. Then you can follow the rhythm, the tune and the words

You dont really need that. I have had a little ukelele since i was like 3 but i have never tried playing seriously since it always was out of tune. But not i tried to tune it and i learnt the chords for this the first day.
Learn the strming patter then look at what chords there are and play it in order.
      And obviously try to sing.

+Uke4U2 Hi! Im a 11 yr old and love the ukulele! I got my first last month! He (Iz) was my main inspiration, and his song Somewhere Over The Rainbow touched my heart. When I found out he died I was in a great depression. But eventually, I got over hit. Still to this day, his song is heartwarming. And I thought, after watching this, "Could you do a new one of this?" And so my question is, obviously, could you do a new one of this? One of my teachers will be judging in the talent show and I really hope I can learn this because that teacher loves this song as well! Well, ok thank you and good-bye!
