there isn't a single thing about this video i don't like for me.....it's perfect i'm in the process of sending this to anyone i know who can appreciate such ART
Lol, nice one. Kurt did 20 years ago today and I'm sure he wouldn't want his fans being shitty to each other. Let's just agree to disagree get high/drunk and listen to Nirvana O.K. Peace out.
you like KC and WB. So youre proud cause you comsume a limited fucking something. with all respect it seems to me that you have to read WB again and KC, what do you think they say abouto buying things like a dumb?
I don't get your last question. Did you not finish? Are you drunk or dumb? And with all do respect it seems to me you need to read more, sharped up your poor grammar. I think I know what your getting at, they wouldn't approve materialism, is that it? Trust me I am in no way materialistic, I am just obsessed with the things I am obsessed with music, cinema, basically the arts. I once read that Kurt spend $90 on a rare Sex Pistols 8-Track how is that different? I am not simple minded,I choose to be an individual. And I don't care what they do. I am me, WB took it in the ass don't mean I have to also.
I love Burroughs reading passages from his work. Glad he decided to do so much of it, especially when you compare him with a lot of the great writers. Would've been great if Ferdinand Celine did the same, or Joyce did more, or Jean Genet, or Beckett, or imagine if the technology existed back then and we had recordings of Rimbaud, Baudeliare, and Lautreamont reading their shit? So grateful for Burroughs for these recordings. Like the others I mentioned Burroughs writing works well when spoken.
Right now I'm reading the book Junk(y) by Burroughs, which has been released in an unabridged version for the first time. I just can't get enough of the way he could lay down a phrase. (Not to mention speak those phrases aloud.) I prefer his way above the ways of others, most definitely. Dean
this something for your iPOD`s kids! Silent night, holy night, think i play that this year for my family ...FEEDBACK til the tree falls down...MERRY X-MAS, WILLIAM AND KURT
I wish Mr.Burroghs had recorded more stories.I like to listen to his voice. It is an old voice full of experience and intelligence.Old people are like librarys-its a shame that we treat them as somthing to sweep under a rug.Nursing homes keep us from hearing thier stories and wisdom-listen to an old person somtime-you just may learn somthing!!
@PorcupineFloyd68 thanks for the generalization. i do have my own opinions if that is what are trying to say. but im not gonna lie...as far as this type of collaboration go, i do not really know what is good or not. i came over it. i like their individual work, so i happened to find this collaboration interesting. nothing wrong with that.
Great stuff, thanks for posting. Anyone understand the use of severed legs in Burroughs work though? He mentions something similar in the junkys christmas. Anyway, cheers.
Burroughs was actually very eloquent. He chose to glorify the life that the powers that be abhor. He was the ultimate rebel. He represented the zenith of alternative thinking about the world. That in itself was a monumental achievement.
Wow that's a really interesting anecdote ! It just goes to show that even the self proclaimed "men of God" are equally susceptible to man made vices. I'm sure the collection plate payed a role. After all, they don't have to pay taxes. Also yes you got the expression right : ]
This one is for All Time. Genius, pure genius by both men. Yet one more example of "aww fuck ... why did Cobain have to die?" Just like "aww fuck ... why did Ian Curtis have to die?"
@roejogan8 I loved this collaboration then, and I love it now. Kurt Cobain, tearing up the guitar when it mattered. Not much in the way of chart topping bravado here- just delicate, sensitive and passionate playing. This is Cobain at his most soulful and experimental. It was personal. One of Kurt Cobain's literary heros revealing a tale of woe and loss while Cobain hammers it out. BEAUTY.
@roejogan8 i dont think so. you dont even really know whats going on here. but i know anybody even a beginner guitar player who has been playing for 3 months, could do this with a loud amp, and a couple noise boxes
yeah, literary outlaw is probably the most definitive book I have ever read about his life. If you really want to read about his philosophies and social commentaries, try the Nova Trilogy and Ghosts of Chance.
Sadly I don't know of any others that have a similar sound to this. There's one Burroughs album called Spare Ass Annie and Other Tales that has a lot of weird jazz and stuff in the background. Most of his recordings have no music sadly. Also check out the video for A Thanksgiving Prayer if you haven't already, you'll enjoy that one !
read Literary Outlaw. That is about his adolesence and young adult life. Also, check out some of the lesser known works of his. He developed his own cosmology of life. The Nova Trilogy. He is one of the only authors I know of that did this.
Yeah man! Regardless of what his personal life was like, Cobain was a genius... especially with heavy guitar effects. Personally, I think Kurt got the majority of his influence from the legendary King Buzzo and The Melvins.
Yeah, as much of a fan I am, that's really all Kurt did in this recording. It sounds better on songs like Radio Friendly Unit Shifter. He did that a lot live too. Either just wanted to get noises out of it or didn't care that much. Idk who marked you as spam but you are right lol. Again, this is coming from a fan.
@snifflesofdeath thank you. I wish that I had Kurt Cobain's guitar playing in the background at the time. Instead I had my sister playing her synthesizer.
@winter4everzz was this a collaboration? Or something Kurt did on his own to Burroughs Spoken word??? Nonetheless..... everything is permitted, all is sacred.
There's a lot of talk about Kurt Cobain's guitar playing on this message board which I find interesting. I read an interview with him where he said he was just screwing around on this one. Apparently he wanted to do an album with him where he was actually trying harder. I think he was a great guitarist, especially on the Unplugged special.
Um, yes he did. Cobain wrote every lyric to every original song Nirvana released, except for Marigold (which technically is not a Nirvana song) and the beginning of Territorial Pissings (which was just Krist singing part of "Let's Get Together". Dave and Krist were credited on SLTS, Aneurysm, and Scentless Apprentice for their musical contributions only.
@Bigrusssthefuss he plays silent night to fit the christmas theme of the words for god sake. i'm willing to bet the majority of what he's playing is improvised. he's good at it. i love what he plays on this. sure it would be possible to play something similar, but to think of the idea to play in that style? it's pretty cool man. it suits the vibe big time. i guess we're all capable of writing as cool as william too right? lol.
Burroughs is amazing and Cobain is very good too, however, I can't concentrate on Burrough's words with this collaboration. don't get me wrong though, they are both genius.
He did a few more. There's an album called "Dead City Radio" I believe he recorded some stuff on there. Then he did one called "old Western Movies" on Kicks Joy Darkness. Burroughs was one of those old people who never had to live like some old dude with Alzheimer's. I have people in my family like that too I'd want someone to put a bullet in my head if I can't do shit for myself. Anyway, my point is that he recorded quite a bit of stuff.
I'm often surprised to see the vitriolic flamewars taking place in the comment sections of some videos. Especially those of artistic interest where I wouldn't expect to see people wasting time insulting each other. I recited this once for a school project. Everyone was a little freaked out.
Cobain was a very caring person. He very much felt the weight of the world's burdens, and felt the frustrations of not being able to really change things, much like you and me. While learning the true workings of the world I've even entertained death as a means to escape the insanity. This was a response to "Cobain is an ass", which is a very naive and hypocritical thing to say
could this have something to do with his role in "drugstore cowboy"? seems similar, maybe inspired. he played a priest in that movie with a drug addiction.
Some interesting details of Burroughs' life: - at 15 he was sent to a Masonic(Luciferian) training camp known as 'ranch school'. - he was a known member of the occult order the OTO. - he always said "write what you know about" & openly admitted that most of his work is semi-autobiographal. -he SHOT HIS WIFE IN THE HEAD and got off scott free. -Heroin addict that stole severed dark-skinned limbs for his addiction. His experience is nothing to be praised. The Film "Naked Lunch" was his real life.
the things a poor junkie has to go through... uncle bill refers to the danger of juvenile addicts, poor lightweight kurt was a case in point. addiction is a condition, it is NOT an excuse. nothing is true, everything is permitted.
He wrote in straight narrative style for some of his books. They were very straight forward. You just have to read the ones that you can understand. Junky and Queer would be good if you aren't into the cut ups.
@PorcupineFloyd68 if your so in tune to avant garde then clearly you know that having a rapport for a certain author or musician helps the connection. So in saying that, your either not a huge fan of either or your a huge fan of burroughs. Don't nay say, because what I gain personally out of this is the noise. The noise better fits my re-imagining of edgar allen poe poems and/or scary stories to tell in the dark stories or urban legends. notice how creativity is contagious?
@flaksucks not sure i understand. I forget my passwords all the time, especially to my emails, so password recovery is nearly impossible for me, so because of that,i have to creat new accounts, im on this thing in like 30 different names!
Thor lindsay produced it at the laundry room studios, dunno who arranged the collab? But they recorded their parts separately in different studios and never met on this occasion.
I know someone in south america has the legs and the things more potent than cocaine thing I also knew seperatly so it all makes absolute sense now burroughs absolutly detested coca-in-E
I was actually told about a priest who had a big heroin and methamphetamine addiction. Where he got his money from I don't know (Church funds ?). I was told this by someone who claimed to be a counsellor. I shouldn't repeat it due to the confidentiality rule, but I think it's interesting to hear even priests can have ''monkeys on their backs'' (is that the right expression ?)
maybe all things someone can do with time and resources (like equipments) another guy can do too. whatever, people with good skills aren't god's or sumething like that but they are just admirable.
i love the beats and their work.. kerouac, ginsberg, synder.. they've created a lot of very influental stuff. However i look at it though, Burroughs is kind of a creep.. lookin at the story of his life... just a wierd creepy kinda guy.
Kurt Cobain wasn't a 'great guitarist' in the John Petrucci or Steve Vai sense, but in his playing there's so much realistic emotion that I can't find in about 90% of the shredders I've heard.
@roejogan8 sure you are. But that is a whole different story all together. Listen dude, you obviously really like this and im not saying thats bad, i really enjoy it too! I really enjoy the story alot and the noise. All I am saying is that, I think because Kurt Cobain did this, its appreciated more. If it was anonymous, I bet it wouldnt get nearly 90% of the worth thats being thrown at it. Think about it! Anyway, I am sorry if you feel i was being too blunt and crass. Take Care R.I.P KDC and WSB
@roejogan8 He is just mad because once again the forces of the universe prove that intelligence and dumbness creates laughter. Or in this case, soul beats technicality mumbo jumbo with no feelings. He probably learned guitar and is feeling empty so he attacks the source.
I love the "noise" in the background. Well done Kurt. We miss you dearly.
there isn't a single thing about this video i don't like
for me.....it's perfect
i'm in the process of sending this to anyone i know who can appreciate such ART
I lived 22 years without knowing this existed.
Two of my heros. Proud to say I own this on limited edition picture vinyl.
your material possessions don't make you cool
P.S. Cool? I'd rather be DEAD than Cool-Kurt Cobain
This makes me feel really calm
I love Burroughs reading passages from his work. Glad he decided to do so much of it, especially when you compare him with a lot of the great writers. I prefer his way above the ways of others, most definitely.
Dean
I've been meaning to listen to this, very glad I did now!
this something for your iPOD`s kids! Silent night, holy night, think i play that this year for my family ...FEEDBACK til the tree falls down...MERRY X-MAS, WILLIAM AND KURT
The Immaclate Fix...i like that .. nice euphimism for an overdose....good story.
The artist of the 20th century, no doubt!!! We need one like him here in meXico...
wow kurt really sounds awsome here, cant believe he did a christmas song
@PorcupineFloyd68 thanks for the generalization. i do have my own opinions if that is what are trying to say. but im not gonna lie...as far as this type of collaboration go, i do not really know what is good or not. i came over it. i like their individual work, so i happened to find this collaboration interesting. nothing wrong with that.
Miss u both.
Great stuff, thanks for posting. Anyone understand the use of severed legs in Burroughs work though? He mentions something similar in the junkys christmas. Anyway, cheers.
Absolutely! RIP Kurt D.
Love it.
fuck'n GENIUS! Two GODS of the last century TOGETHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Top collaboration, ps Kurt Cobain was & is so underrated as a guitar player!!
Gorgeous!
Insane.
There's a lot of his work on vinyl.
Burroughs was actually very eloquent. He chose to glorify the life that the powers that be abhor. He was the ultimate rebel. He represented the zenith of alternative thinking about the world. That in itself was a monumental achievement.

@TheFriendlyPig Yyyyyeah, Gotta love the new wave techno babble tunes of Kurt Cobain. You're name is deceiving.
My nanes jon😊
The "immaculate fix" is something we're all jonesing for.
Curt Cobain on Guitar.
beautiful
People need to listen to this.
this is just great
This one is for All Time. Genius, pure genius by both men. Yet one more example of "aww fuck ... why did Cobain have to die?" Just like "aww fuck ... why did Ian Curtis have to die?"
The Fall's ''Hip Priest'' is about him, I believe. He was a big influence on Brit novelist Will Self.
"LOL!!!" - ORCHID
Yeeeooow!!!!!
It's true. I have the CD where it was recorded. There isn't copy of lyrics. Cobain just plays the guitar, while Borroughs read HIS lines.
i bought this on cd and everyone said i was just being pretentious.well 15 yrs or more later i still put it on and enjoy so fuck em all.
i had it too problem is I can't recall exactly where I got it some shop in atlanta wound up selling it in nyc
@roejogan8

Yeah are there any other albums like this?
This track was just a single...
I've got all the NWW and Throbbing Gristle stuff.
Hes done a whole album of collabs, can't remember the name though?
@roejogan8 i dont think so. you dont even really know whats going on here. but i know anybody even a beginner guitar player who has been playing for 3 months, could do this with a loud amp, and a couple noise boxes
I wish Burroughs would've done a spoken word session with Throbbing Gristle. That might be the only thing that could top something like this.
yeah, literary outlaw is probably the most definitive book I have ever read about his life. If you really want to read about his philosophies and social commentaries, try the Nova Trilogy and Ghosts of Chance.

I think I just came on my keyboard and accidentally got some of it on one of the animal corpses on my desk.
thank you so much. (5/5 stars and favorite)
Yeah man! Regardless of what his personal life was like, Cobain was a genius... especially with heavy guitar effects. Personally, I think Kurt got the majority of his influence from the legendary King Buzzo and The Melvins.
I would play to hear that.

Yeah my friend, me too!!!!
weird, I scrolled down and happened to read this just as this line was being spoken
it was released on "tim kerr records"
@Bigrusssthefuss he plays silent night to fit the christmas theme of the words for god sake. i'm willing to bet the majority of what he's playing is improvised. he's good at it. i love what he plays on this. sure it would be possible to play something similar, but to think of the idea to play in that style? it's pretty cool man. it suits the vibe big time. i guess we're all capable of writing as cool as william too right? lol.
I would like to have seen/heard a conversation between William S. Burroughs and Bill Cosby.
Have you heard the album where Burrows reads Keroak ?
this is art
Burroughs is amazing and Cobain is very good too, however, I can't concentrate on Burrough's words with this collaboration.

brillant

why does everyone argue about kurt cobain on every youtube f*cking video hes on. Damn. Just enjoy him for what he did or watch something else...
IS THIS COBAIN GUITAR-SOLO SOMEWHERE AVAILABLE ?? THX
what solo?
He wrote in straight narrative style for some of his books. They were very straight forward. You just have to read the ones that you can understand. Junky and Queer would be good if you aren't into the cut ups.

I normally put on some nice choral music around Christmas time.
awesome on both ends.....
would like to know how this came about.

@Veggiorto666 I can hear the dull monotonous drawl of your voice, son. Same voice as mine. So where are ya on that Bomb Pop?
haunting....haunting....HAUNTING
This is rad as f*ck!

Gahdam, William S. Burroughs is a boss.
I was told Kurt Cobain Recorded 30 minutes of guitar effects but the studio edit most of it. I want to hear the rest Anyone have it ? please pm me
@roejogan8 He is just mad because once again the forces of the universe prove that intelligence and dumbness creates laughter.
Or in this case, soul beats technicality mumbo jumbo with no feelings. He probably learned guitar and is feeling empty so he attacks the source.
with good reason
@badazzpresidents23 so true
