One of the unpleasant things about Paris is the number of 'scammers' who try to con you in different ways. We've had the "have you just lost this gold ring" scam, plus the "please sign our petition (so my friend can rob you) amongst others. You mentioned how lovely Sacre-Coeur is and I agree but I wouldn't go there again because of those men who pester you to buy their tacky bracelets. If they manage to slip one on your wrist they won't let you go until you give them money. It's quite frightening.
Another great video! I pray though no bed bugs have got on your clothing or into your suitcase or you'll have a nasty surprise chez toi! I'd take action and super hot wash everything and then tumble dry for at least 20 minutes and spray your rooms with treatments. Bed bugs are the ultimate hitchhikers.

This is clearly a health concern and in my opinion should be a red line, particular when many folks don’t read detailed reviews and just look at the overall rating. There are also dozens of reviews across several platforms reporting similar concerns. Unfortunately I doubt the hotel will be motivated to make any changes.
When i stayed in Paris , the highlight was standing on the top steps of the Sacre Coeur , and looking over the Paris skyline . Some great places to eat as well at Montmartre , at very affordable prices .
Your opening remarks re Parisians not being particularly welcoming reminded me of a tale told by a family friend who was driving through Paris and was low on fuel so pulled over to ask a local directions to a garage, the local listened while he asked in broken french and then the local said "you are english?"my friend replied that he was and for his troubles he was told to f*** off, charming people. thanks and stay safe hope the bug bites have cleared.

Paris does not hold happy memories for me. 1985, my mum and aunt treated me to 5 days there. I was 19. We shared a suite at the Ritz. 2 of us got food poisoning on the second night that lingered on til the flight back. The third suffers from Crohn's disease and spends half her life in the toilet. So 3 ill women all begging to use the one toilet in the room. I have not eaten chicken since. I am 56. Life stories. What was miserable at the time is comical whilst looking back. 🗼🥂

Late one night driving through upper Michigan I stayed in a relatively cheap hotel, exhausted, woke up an hour or two later to actually pull up the covers and saw all these crawling things. I had the bites immediately. I left in the middle of the night, washed everything at home, dried everything but continued to fight them for over a month. The only thing I hadn't washed and dried was my New Balance shoes. I guess they were hiding in the soles? Awful, awful, awful.
Saying "Bon Jour" (or "Bon Soir" in the evening) is the key. When you enter any restaurant, bar, shop etc. Say "Bon Jour" even if you can't see anyone. Also, say "Bon Jour" *_before_* you say anything else to waiter, shop assistant etc. _"Bon jour, may we have a table for 3 please?"_ or _"Bon jour, may we have two tickets please"_
Only visited once when a coach tour to Austria just after we married in the early 1970’s, spent a couple of nights in Montmartre on the way home, it was in July and hot as well as being noisy and the hotel basic. The Paris Syndrome fitted well, we paid the tour company to feed us on the first night and the food was inedible, strangely for Brits there was a revolt and a demand for a refund and the next night’s meal to be cancelled, which all happened. The next night we found a nondescript local café where I had a ham omelette and my wife ordered an Omelette Natural which turned out to be a couple of near raw eggs, we had a nice chat with a local who spoke English. We chose a bus tour rather than a visit to Versailles, we also used the Metro to explore without any trouble except when I asked for deux bier rather deux billet which brought a smile to the lady selling tickets, my minor language skills are Spanish with a bit of German. With another two English couples on the tour we walked the length of the Champs-Élysées and made the mistake of sitting on the road outside the bar, expensive beer, we did have the entertainment of watching a Parisian driver parking by going backwards and forwards into a space by bumping the cars either side, when he finished we all stood up and gave him a round of applause and he bowed to us in thanks.
Scott better check your pillows because bed bugs love pillows. If your head gets itchy ,you might have to shave the head clean, so you can put the lotion on too kill them. It's the only thing you can do.

I stayed there a few month ago and had the same problem. The best way to stop bed bugs (if the bed has legs) is to put a plastic container filled with water and some lemon juice in the water and put it under the legs of the bed. Bugs can’t resist lemon.
See if your camera has an option to set the lighting frequency, or powerline frequency. You'd want to set it to 50Hz to match the European power grid, otherwise your footage will have flickering lights such as in this case. Otherwise, such an awesome video, as always.
You should have gone into the foyer of the Moulin Rouge to view the Lauterec paintings. By the way you probably have brought home some of them bed bugs.... best way to get rid of them is to heat up the room to 48c for about three hours..... the heat kills them and the eggs. put your clothes and sheets through a tumble dryer

Something like that, yes, especially for the first PBA set. The newer PBKA (with one front window and a rounder nose) are a few years younger on average, and closer to 35 years old. They are being refurbished at the moment, the 'Ruby' sets, with an additional pink line in the livery between the silver and bordeaux, and the cafe car being replaced with more seating and some machines for drinks and food... The merger will likely see some of the current Eurostar fleet go to the Thalys routes. I don't know yet if they will get a red livery, though.
As always an interesting video. One particular point of interest was you mentioning the non availability of rooms to book. We clearly are in the middle of a big travel surge (even people who never used to seem to travel are now undertaking big trips) and with the pandemic and the lockdowns of the past perhaps it is not surprising. But with potentially more difficult economic times ahead is it going to be sustainable? It will interesting to see how things go. Will travel be boom and then bust or are we entering a new era where travel becomes even more of a priority in peoples budgets?
Having been to Paris for the first time a few weeks ago, I found it to be quite a dirty place. Even for a large city it's especially filthy. My first impression was the rancid smell coming from an open air urinal just outside Gare du Nord, a few metres away from one of the entrances. I did love visiting landmarks, especially the Palace of Versailles.
True story, in sep 1995 I decided to travel to the Shetlands! Whilst in Lerwick SYH. I met a female Parisian anyway I managed to spend Xmas with her in Paris that year!!

I turned off the lights in my hotel room in Michigan 5 years ago. I waited 10 minutes and turned them back on and found BBs. Crawling on the wall, the bed, the floor. I had checked everything that afternoon when I checked in and just before going to bed and had found no obvious sign. I got dressed took my bag went down to the front desk and dropped a couple of the lively bugs on the desk. The place was booked and I was not quiet in my complaint. Nor was I loud. Very long story short, after a 20-minute conversation with the night manager and a call to their headquarters in which I explained some things to the very sarcastic person I was talking to on the phone, I was given a room under construction for my 3-night stay as it was 1 in the morning and there were absolutely no other rooms within a 20-mile area for hire. The next day the room they had originally given me was taped shut and marked for treatment. I was soooo glad I had switched on the light and checked before drifting off to sleep. So sorry you had to endure the BBs as they can be very nasty and cause illness which a couple of my friends who travel more than I do, have experienced. If the lodging is greedy they can have the cleaning staff clean so that you will not find an obvious trace, BUT the BBs will still be there. Take care and thanks for sharing your Paris "highlights".
Quick is Belgian Mcdonald's. It's very much the same, although they have some specific short time Belgian (or French in France) burgers that are interesting. I never knew they once were in the UK too.

You missed out the best free venue in all of Paris the Père Lachaise cemetery. Buried there amongst many famous people we have Chopin, Edith Piaf, Jim Morrison, of the doors, and Oscar Wilde as examples.
I dont think Ive seen such a basic hotel - toilet in the actual bedroom?! When on holiday you expect to pay quite a lot so it seems it's worthwhile to pay more, particularly if you dont want bed bugs!
I've always said London is a better city than Paris, old with new, there's always something different round every corner, where as Paris looks very much the same everywhere, and London is waaay cleaner

I have said it before I will say it again, Paris is grossly over-rated. If not done so head down to Madrid or Barcelona to do a film. If you do Barcelona book in advance and go inside the Sagrada Familia, truly one of the greatest builds in the world

Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder - to me, Sacré Cœur's dome shows what a nuclear power station would look like if you pulled a super sized condom over it... It's just not my taste and the square in front of it plus most of the hill suffer from terrible over-tourism. I studied in Paris for a year a long time ago and I return there every couple of years, always trying to discover spots that I've never been to before or that are genuinely new (or that at least were added after I lived there, like the Viaduc des Arts). Last time, I went on a long walk across the Père Lachaise cemetary, to the village-like Charonne quarter, along the Belleville park and the Bergeyre hill (both offering fantastic views on the city without the crowding), crossed the wonderfully kitsch Buttes-Chaumont park and the pictoresque Mouzaia quarter and on to the Canal de l'Ourcq and Stalingrad Métro station to return to our accomodation. A strenuous walk - but all very much worth seeing....
Bed bugs. In the 70's I stayed in a cheap French hotel. In the next room they had bed bugs, millions of them. Their room was swarming with them, disgusting. Never saw any in my room.
A great video, as usual. Some of the scenes put me in mind of Roman Polanski's film, 'The Tennant'; a really good dark thriller from 1978, that also stars Piolanski himself-when paranoia starts to rule your life. Check it out, I really recommend it.
Tip: best hotels for lowest price in Paris are the accor hotels budget range chain. Forget the anglophone sites. You need to drop your anglophone baggage to enjoy Paris.

It's just not my taste and the square in front of it plus most of the hill suffer from terrible over-tourism.
I studied in Paris for a year a long time ago and I return there every couple of years, always trying to discover spots that I've never been to before or that are genuinely new (or that at least were added after I lived there, like the Viaduc des Arts).
Last time, I went on a long walk across the Père Lachaise cemetary, to the village-like Charonne quarter, along the Belleville park and the Bergeyre hill (both offering fantastic views on the city without the crowding), crossed the wonderfully kitsch Buttes-Chaumont park and the pictoresque Mouzaia quarter and on to the Canal de l'Ourcq and Stalingrad Métro station to return to our accomodation.
A strenuous walk - but all very much worth seeing....

Bed bugs. In the 70's I stayed in a cheap French hotel. In the next room they had bed bugs, millions of them. Their room was swarming with them, disgusting. Never saw any in my room.

A great video, as usual. Some of the scenes put me in mind of Roman Polanski's film, 'The Tennant'; a really good dark thriller from 1978, that also stars Piolanski himself-when paranoia starts to rule your life. Check it out, I really recommend it.

Omg Bed 🛌 bugs. Should of stayed at a ibis hotel 🏨 or a better hotel then the one you stayed at. They is a reason why it was £42 a night in paris. A price you paid for bed bugs. I hope you recover from the bites. That £42 can get you a 3 star hotel in Thailand 🇹🇭 #justsaying #Thailand
