Also, there are a few minor mistakes that might confuse the spectator, like the explanation of an ace. It is said in the video that an ace is when the player serves the ball legally and the opponent cannot return the ball, even if he touches it to the outside of the court, when in reality an ace is "a legal serve that is not touched by the receiver, winning the point". The image showing Federer not receiving Murray's serve corroborate to this minor mistake of the video, because Federer does touch the ball after a legal server of Murray, but he didn't return it well (the ball went out of Murray's court area), this is not an ace.
This helped so much I’m going to start playing tennis for my school and I have no idea about scoring or rules or how to play and this definitely helped :)
Yeah they are confusing at first, watching a few matches or playing an actual match, computer game helps understand them, or watching a video like this.
Iam2OBSCENE Wow, thanks man. All you need to do is watch a few games and the rules of Tennis will make sense ... sort of. Thanks for stopping by, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
Working as staff at the US open atm I never realized how much I never cared about tennis, but now I actually find it interesting. And you’re right, watching the games help understand it better.

Thanks very much for this Ninh Ly, since Tennis, Badminton, Ice Hockey, Soccer, and American Football equal my favorite sports, and what I'm very much a fan of. I very much appreciate you explaining the rules of Tennis over this.
Hi Madeleine. I don't think anyone is great at tennis right away. It takes a little bit of practice but you can be really good at it. So long as you're having fun, that's the main thing! Hope this video helps?!
Tennis sounds so damn complicated at first but you will quickly get used to it. And it will take long to get good at it, for most people at least, but if you keep training it will be much fun!
+Diana Davila Thanks Diana, I'm glad you found this Tennis video helpful! I have other videos like this, so check out some of my other stuff. But in the meantime, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
+فيصل الاحمري Absolutely! Tennis is a great sport and I highly recommend going to your nearest club to have a go. Thanks for stopping by, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
Ninh Ly Is there tennis all season? Such as indoor for some seasons? I’m asking since I’m interesting to learn but the weather here in the winter is something else.
Im playing tennis for over 8 years and thrust me guys that sport is worth every little bit of efort. And in this really good video to watch if you want at least a bit to learn these complicated rules.
It maybe sounds strange and confusing here. But I recommend watching some matches. I watched Australian Open as my first tennis matches in my life and watching the game actually helped me big time. It's one of the easiest sports to understand.
Micheal Lynch Thanks for the comments Michael. Yes, I've got several videos explaining Rules of Badminton, Cricket, Ice Hockey, Baseball etc. Be sure to check those out!
+Ninh Ly Oh I will! But I've another question . How long do you think it will take beginners to get used to tennis? Many people say it's harder than most other sports...
Before the match begins, a coin toss is performed. The winner of the toss gets to choose to either serve or return first (service/return position) OR they get to choose the side of the court. If the winner chooses the serve/return position, the opponent gets to choose the side and vice versa. Players switch sides after every odd number of games (after the 1st game, 3rd game and so on).
This is such a well made video! I'm trying to educate a non-player about the sport and I couldn't explain it as well as this. Very good work, and I love the addition of Murray's tennis face. The only thing I added was pegging someone.
@@Jake_Stevens yup video was wrong about that, ball has to hit net and be in service box for let. I've been playing tennis for 4 years and had to second guess myself lol
im just here because of school, and i really didnt care about tennis at a l l (or any sport for that matter) congrats man, you actually got me interested in tennis.
The umpire will coin toss who serves first, and players alternate between each game as to who serves. Thanks, I appreciate the comments! Be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
Djokovic made me to come here! look what he did! I'm suddenly interested in tennis....... learning rule....... feeling good! by the way thanks for the video...... BT I think I need to keep watching it for a while! hahaha
Okay tennis players. I'm 11 and I play softball I loved that so much and want to try more (volleyball ,tennis) but I don't know anything about it but when high school rolls around I want to play but like all school teams you have to try out now I was wondering If you think I can learn how to play and be okay at it in a small amount of time. Or is it easy to play and will I embarrass myself.
Like with any sport, you don't know if you don't try! Don't expect to be amazing at it straight away. But so long as you enjoy what you do, the skills will come naturally. Good luck!
Thanks for the video, it's so clear and easy to understand. I'm playing with my friends tomorrow so hopefully all goes well. Thanks for the video 👍👍👍👍👍🙏
I don't know why I'm watching tennis videos on a saturday night, but I found this video very useful, now I can continue watching tennis matches and understand what the heck is going on
why would anyone dislike this? It's a quick ands simple guide to a game with a strange scoring system, and unique rules.
Ah, you get haters everywhere. But thank you - I appreciate the comments about the usefulness of this video! :)
I liked the video. However, it was very fast. I had to rewind several times because my apprehension is not so quick.
Because its showing tons of clips of Federer losing...
Because it's not all right

this vid is fire man, i have to make some power point shit about tennis this thing will help me a lot , ty man.
Two questions: how to know from which side to serve; when do players go from one side of the court to another? Thanks a lot for this excellent video!
Before the match begins, a coin toss is performed. The winner of the toss gets to choose to either serve or return first (service/return position) OR they get to choose the side of the court. I learnt about let.
Cool, glad this video helps.
Ninh Ly is it necessary for the ball to land in opponent's court for it to be called a let or it must go off the court?
No, it can land outside so long as it grazes the net and goes over.
On a let, after the ball hits the net, it MUST land inside the correct service box. If it lands OUTSIDE of the correct service box, it is a fault.
@@Jake_Stevens yup video was wrong about that, ball has to hit net and be in service box for let. I've been playing tennis for 4 years and had to second guess myself lol

actually an ace is when your opponent serves and you did not even touch the ball
jaaaic10 Yup
If you can't return the serve then it is an ace
Ace is a synonym for a serve that is also a winner.
angusyip123 a winner is when you or your opponent doesnt hit the ball
Correct. If the opponent's raquet touches the ball then its not an ace. And it's not a winner either.
I play table tennis competitively so a lot of this stuff makes sense. Just on a court with a stringed racket and larger ball
Basically, yes.
