    In Malaysia, badminton is a sport that acts as a bridge between the three main races in Malaysia, the Malays, Chinese and Indians. Everyone plays it, and everyone knows how to play it. The guy in this video who lost(the guy wearing the yellow shirt), Lee Chong Wei, is a God in Malaysia. He lost three Olympic badminton finals in a row, but people here still adore him. I can safely say that he did more to unite the people of Malaysia than any politician has in the last 20-30 years.

    Thanks for the vid. I've been playing badminton ever since I was a kid, but always at home and was never in any competitions. I was always the best in class in school (because I played so much), but for some reason I never thought I could actually play it "serious"... probably for the lack of playing in my town as well. Now when our university apparently has badminton competitions I've started to reconsider that, but I don't know the rules at all. I was fearing it'd be too difficult to learn, but this actually seems doable. So yeah, thanks!

    Great video as always Ninh! As many already are aware it is quite obvious that the best badminton players in the world come from Malaysia and Indonesia. Many years ago back in 1970 the men's world singles champion was from my hometown here in Calgary Alberta Canada. His name is Jamie Paulsen. I learned to play badminton using those now seemingly ancient wooden racquets. They needed to be put in a press to prevent warping. Sort of makes me feel elderly now doesn't it?😀

    • @NinhLyUK
      @NinhLyUK  5 років тому

      Wow, that's going back some! I never used the wooden ones, I used the heavy steel ones that hurt your wrist after 20 minutes. Nowadays, the rackets are so thin and light, you don't even realise it's there.
      Thanks man!

    Good God, is it really called a "shuttlecock?" That's the best name for a ball I've heard yet - even better than "sliotar." I've only ever heard it called a "birdie" - is this because I'm American and we have to have our own names for everything?

    • @NinhLyUK
      @NinhLyUK  9 років тому +58

      Stone Coggins Yes, it really is called a shuttlecock! I've only ever heard the term 'birdie' in the US, but everywhere else it's called a shuttlecock.
      Believe it or not, the original sport was called 'battledore and shuttlecock', but eventually changed its name to Badminton.

    Hi Ninh. Great page you got there. Very informative. Recently there's a rule called challenge as well. Well i'm not sure if it should be in the video =D. Could you please do a video Dodgeball as well? There are different rules in different countries, could you kindly explain please. Thank you =)

      @NinhLyUK  9 років тому +2

      +Roy Gan Hi. Challenge in Badminton is like an instant reply. It's not actually a playing rule and most non international games don't have them, so it doesn't go in the video. Also, I cannot explain every single variation of dodgeball into one video. Please bear this in mind. Thanks for stopping by, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)

    Me and my friend J we will call her that we are interested in the sport and not for some quiz we’ve never gotten quizzes for gym. We always play this one game mat ball all the time and we hate it and now we get to play a unit of badminton we’re very proud of how fast we’re progressing. 😃

    If during play, the shuttle disintegrates and the base completely separates from the rest of the shuttle, is shall be a let.

    During serve, 1.the patner of servers & receiver can be fully placed his position in same serve line or diagonally serve line. OR 2.He had to placed always his position partially in both side.

    how much time can a player take to serve?

    • @NinhLyUK
      @NinhLyUK  9 років тому

      KGV KARTHIK Excellent question! There is no definitive time limit as specified in the official rulebook
      (9.1.1 neither side shall cause undue delay to the delivery of the service once the server and the receiver are ready for the service. On completion of the backward movement of server’s racket head, any delay in the start of the service (Law 9.2), shall be considered to be an undue delay)
      It's all on the discretion of the umpire. Some think that 5 seconds is about the right time limit. Any more than that, and you're pushing it.
      Hope that helps? Be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
