      It’s great fun, but not something you need to own! Play it if you get the chance!

    Glad there’s a new review of this lovely game! I wish more reviewers would cover older games. I’ve honestly found better luck buying old games over new ones. With new games people are still excited. But if someone’s still taking about a 8+ year old game, well that’s some staying power.

      We’d like to make more videos on older games, but it’s hard to find the time!

    We tried Shipyard at 2 players. The multiple rondels were interesting, but it was too repetitive. We sold it after a single play. It is a shame because I love Pulsar 2849 and Underwater Cities.

      I liked it more with more players, but I must agree with you, his newer designs are mostly better! It’s good that he is evolving as a designer!

      @@BoardGamingRamblings I’m on the opposite uhh boat lol. I much prefer Shipyard and 20th Century (even more) to anything he’s made recently. Even the rarely mentioned League Of 6 (with expansion) is a lot of fun. I did really enjoy Prodigals Club though (far more than last will). Pulsar was nice, but not fun enough for me to crave it over other games. And I’m in what is clearly the minority, I just do not understand what folks see in Underwater Cities at all.

    One of the games my wife and I disagree on, but not that strongly. I liked it enough to keep it in the rotation of games we regularly play, but I didn't mind too much when she kicked it to the "dud" shelf. The setup is pretty fiddly, as another comment mentioned, so I could let it go, but I always thought she should have played it more and gotten better at it--she kept losing but we didn't play it enough before she got a little aggravated with it. Mistakes on the action rondel can be quite punishing--there are obvious moves that you might not want to make because you're looking at something shiny, but if you get "out of line," you can get shut out of an action you needed to have taken, and later you just feel beat.
    We've gone through some ups and downs with his games, always 2p. Underwater Cities we loved at first, but after a few sessions, it ended up on the dud shelf as a little too luck-swingy too often. This one she never liked, Pulsar we still play, but it's fifty-fifty--some sessions, the winner (usually her) is decided long before it's over, but when that doesn't happen it's good, heavy fun.
    On the thin player mats--definitely agree there's no need for thick, warping cardboard especially if it helps hold the price down, especially in a Euro. Gameplay, artwork and design (clear iconography) are what's important in Euro games. I bet if this one came out today, it would have all sorts of plastic and cost double.

      We haven’t played Underwater Cities enough to know where it will land, but I will probably not play Shipyard for a while now. Pulsar I really love, but mostly with more than 2p!
      Glad to hear you agree on the thin player mats :P

    Didn’t like this one two player. Tedious set up, huge stacks to sort. Have yet to find a game from this designer I do like.

      Have you played Pulsar? It’s my favorite of his!

      Board Gaming Ramblings yes, tried pulsar. Didn’t like that one either. Some designers don’t work for me at all. Uwe Rosenberg, pfister, are a couple others that have been 100% misses.

    Think the word you were looking for was funnel....One of the better older games.

    i think it‘s a solid game, but considering the price tag, this is not a must-have unless one already owns all the other really good games... and if one does, then why not play those?! 😅

    • @BoardGamingRamblings
      @BoardGamingRamblings  4 роки тому

      Yeah, I agree! We got it very cheap, and was happy with it, but wouldn’t have been happy paying a premium for it!
