    The first phrase, "got a good reason", is sung by Paul, then on the next one John takes the melody and Paul drops down to the harmony. Paul doing the hard work again!

      The melody would be the hard part for me.. I can get any harmony in my head but hitting notes above an f or f# is so hard...

      There’s got to be some technical or editing reason that John didn’t sing all the way through that. When singing it, there’s no value whatsoever in splitting the first two lines of melody between two people.
      McCartney had a great range and while he could make those jumps up and down, many people singing in bands cannot.

      @@debbieburke3162no I think it’s that they knew each others strengths. John’s strength was at the top of his singing voice so he hits those higher notes right at the end of his register. Also he gets the higher falsetto notes because his voice is stronger than Paul’s. They do a similar thing in “from me to you” and “when I saw her standing there”

    Your videos are wonderful as usual, but I'm just as fascinated to see how many high parts that John sang. He and Paul interwove their vocals more than most of us fans ever knew!

    It's interesting how "to find out and I found out" goes from E-sharp to D-sharp. Even though it's a major second, which is a very common interval, it actually sounds weird because we're in the key of E. Also, many people would call the note in C-sharp F, but it's actually E-sharp. Yes, it does matter.

    Most Beatles fans do not know that Paul sings under John on the following lines:
    "For taking the easy way out (now)", "She took me half the way there (now)" and "She only played one-night stands (now)" If anyone doubts me, search The Beatles at Candlestick Park (their last concert). John's mic is very very low on Day Tripper and Paul's is very loud and you can hear Paul singing "Got a good reason, then he sings the low "For taking the easy way out" MIND BLOWN!😊

    I love your videos but i disagree with the harmonies in some of this. In the chorus (or verse two as you call it) on the "day tripper one way ticket yeah" bit, george and paul's are the other way round. George is doing the top on in falsetto and Paul the middle one starting on the g sharp. You can tell this by listening to live versions and its clear which one paul is doing

    Correction? I've been listening to this video, the Beatles record, the isolated vocal tracks and singing it and performing it and have never been quite satisfied. Now I think I've got it and welcome others to weigh in and let me know if they think I'm right or wrong. And maybe Galeazzo has already got these notes and I just don't have the ability to distinguish what I'm hearing? Anyway, here goes...
    Just taking the 2nd line of the song where John and Paul are singng together "taking the easy way out" - it sounds like Paul is starting high and ending low on the E while John is starting a bit lower than Paul and finishing higher than Paul on the G#. I hear John's line "tak-ing the ea-sy way out" going (one note per syllable) F#, E, D, B, A, G#, G#, G#. It's just the kind of thing the Beatles did - crossing melody and harmony lines- plus it has John singing the 7th of E (D) and as any student of Beatles knows, the 7th was John's favorite note to sing.
    What do y'all think?

  • @TheBeatlesVocalHarmony
    @TheBeatlesVocalHarmony  12 років тому

    Sure it's on the list!

  • @travismerle3394
    @travismerle3394 9 років тому +3

    I love your videos and always think you do a great job. but... I'm not hearing Paul going low on the second phrases in the verses. Firstly, it doesn't make sense theoretically for him to drop down. That's not to say they wouldn't do it, but it's illogical. More importantly though, it also sounds like John's voice underneath. John has always had a bit more fry to his lows and I hear that fry on the record. A good example is "Love Me Do" It's Paul that drops down and sings the "Love Me Do" part and it sounds like Paul. Compare this sung line to John's, where he sings in this range virtually the entire verse, and you can hear the difference. John has more fry in his voice.
    Thoughts?

      This song is very trippy. When I first heard the song, I thought Paul also did the low part when they sing "She was a day tripper" overdubbed with himself, but they switch so much. It's definitely him doing the low part when they sing "for taking the easy way out". Download the "minus one" bootlegs where they don't have it double tracked, and you can hear it more clearly.

    Hi Galleazzo, do you have any tips on re-arranging multipart vox (like Day Tripper) into 2-part? The reason being that many people (like me) sing in a band with only one other person who's capable of singing. Basically, I could use some help choosing which background part to use for each section.
