Mostly related to the topic. I ended up cycling through all the fatties I wanted to put in my Mayael deck, back and forth. I could no longer fit all the sub-themes into the deck at any one time, that I eventually created a sideboard for it. How large? 180 cards. Before every game with this deck, I shuffle the sideboard, take 39 random creatures from this pile, face down, and shuffle them into the main deck. This is my "variations" deck. It is always different, and it plays so differently every time. Especially since I don't know what is in it when I go digging with Mayael. All my ramp is artifact based, so I don't spoil the surprise with Cultivate/SakuraTribeElder. This is how I solved the problem of cutting cards in this particular deck, and I am proud of it. I have played Magic for so long now, and I have so many good fatties that would never see play otherwise, because there are better choices.
@@bladetb3934Good question, thank you! Well, because I removed any tutor from the deck (including land tutors/ramp/fetches) to go in blind in every game about what my deck does, I don't really have anything that tutors. With Mayael I look at the top 5 cards of my deck and put a fattie in play. Looking through 5 cards is a lot simpler than tutoring through it all. :) and I love the Christmas-like feeling about not knowing what I will open at any given time I play my deck.
Just starting with the episode and I'm guilty as well from choosing golgari charm as my first pick to switch out when something new comes up ): so leave Dana alone!
I “reconsider decks” every time a new set comes out. As I’m cracking packs and looking at cards I am wondering what EDH deck they would be and improvement to.
So Dana make notes of all his cuts/additions? I have a notebook where I write down all my cuts/adds for all 6 of my EDH decks. I also have cut and add notes on tapped out as well. My friends think I'm weird for doing it but I like to see the progress of my decks. As for re-added I put Revel in Riches back into Shattergang brothers since academy Manufactor came out.
I took deflecting swat and fierce guardianship out of pako//haldan, swapped them out fore bolt bend and stubborn Denial. Put the first two in to two of my weaker decks, and now their more fun
blighted agent goes in other decks, I agree, that doesn't work. the thing with aetherspouts and aetherize is that they are situationally good. if you get attacked by a huge army of elves or slivers or tokens of some kind, yes, fantastic, but if its 1 giant creature smacking you in the face it feels very bad to use. hey, winds of Abandon is actually great, I usually have Austere Command in every deck that plays white because its flexible, but I should add this one too. but if I play white and black, I'll go with Merciless eviction instead, at least there, I have options and it gives them nothing in return, even if it hits my own things too. the thing with winds of abandon is that you do ramp them, assuming they have enough basic lands to put in.
Just this week i have been building an Orzhov deck and I decide to keep Mercilous Eviction over Winds of Abandon. After this maybe i should have a rethink.
The card that I cut and re-add is the worst card that enables my strategy. As I play the deck, the focus of it tends to get more and more narrow. I keep cutting cards that don't enable the strategy and putting back in that worst card that does. For instance, when I built Jetmir, the worst token generator in the deck is Leonin Warleader. Originally I had cut the card but had token support cards like beastmaster ascension, and cathar's crusade but as I get more reps in the deck, I kept eliminating cards that don't directly enable the strategy and putting Leonin Warleader back in. Then I'd find a new card from the new set that was a better token generator than Leonin and pull Leonin out, just to eliminate another card such as aura shards that doesn't directly support the strategy in favor of Leonin Warleader. Already looking at the spoilers for next set, I know Leonin Warleader is going to get pulled out again and replaced by Archivist of Oghma because the deck is lighter on card draw than I'd like. But this is the trend of my decks. The focus gets more and more narrow and it's the worst card that is within that focus that keeps getting swapped back in.
Vanishing verse in my teysa orzhov scion deck. I’ve cut it a couple of times because my playgroup has a lot of problem cards that are multi colored, And I kept just happening To have it instead of a different removal spell. My experiencd with 3 lands to destroy other lands: 1. 3 colorless lands makes mana base very clunky. I could see 1 but I prefer lands that give me my colors with an upside. 2. Everybody normally gangs up against the Coffers/Urborg player. Player removal is the best removal. If archenemy kills the whole table then you just got got. I prefer having a better mana base. 3. Generous gift, beast within, chaos warp, ass Trophy are catch-all solutions. I prefer having those than colorless lands. 4. great video, guys! I still believe that banding was removed because it was too powerful not because it was too hard to understand. I really liked that mechanic.
35:15 as someone who as played Brokkos infect in the past, Blighted Agent is still immensely useful due to the density of buff spells that can easily make it swing for lethal infect damage: this is because while cheap buff spells are plentiful, small and efficient infect creatures are not! Hence why I believe Blighted Agent still has a home in that deck despite not being a valid target for the mutate ability.
This one's for Joey: cards that you wind up putting back in after taking out...how about Nightmare Unmaking in the Upping the Average on Anje Falkenrath this week? ;-)
My cuts and un-cuts depends on my group over time. I find myself re-adding shit-tons of sweepers. The power level has been creeping up over time and there's a lot of players that can shit out too many threats too early.
Hey brokos has an infect subtheme and all 25% of those decks should be playing blighted agent. Infect creatures arent very common and having one with evasion to swing in early is important to start putting a timer on people's life totals
Whoah Whoah Whoah.... Deadbridge Chant is a bomb in my kathril aspect warper deck. Everyone knows that if I get this down and leave it there it forces my deck to just go off. I run a bunch of dredge cards and this always hits at least one which can easily see me go from this card going down on my second main phase to my upkeep with at least 25 cards or more. All the yummy keywords to make a bug that kills on sight
I love Moxfield . . . just not enough to go through the work of moving my decks over. If it was a TappedOut to Moxfield level leap I'd make it, but since Archidekt does 98% of what I want it's not worth the time to port over. You're absolutely correct though that it's fantastic.
@@danaroach29 Totally get it. I had to migrate to Moxfield from Archidekt when PlayEDH started only taking lists from there. They've been my LGS through the pandemic, so I obviously made the switch.
To Matt: All your decks are finished. Right now if you were to take a card out of one of your decks and replace it with another, it is now a new deck and it is the finished version of that deck. I know this is very semantic, but the idea I'm getting at here is that when you change your deck, it is now a different deck that has a different goal, even if ever so slightly. It's similar to why you likely don't run Craterhoof Behemoth in a lot of your decks. Because that one card changes your deck pretty drastically and you don't seem like the type of player that wants to win like that.
Joey does not ever imply that he would get lands from his creatures, and specifically praises the card for being a one-sided wipe that clears the way for his attacking army.

Should be the new legendary in Return to Return to Return to Ravnica
27:36 what about Master of Eterium?
Scute swarm also does not work because of the legendary rule
This episode reminded me of my kids.
I don't miss them until they're gone.
RIP
Wait...
I never had kids
Blade of Selves is abusive if equiped on a Hydra Omnivore.
Poison Tip Archer is the strongest card in EDH. Never gets removed. Does 21 damage a game. Discourages attacks.
How dare you rip on deadbridge chant! I love it in my polukranos unchained deck purely for filling my yard and some rng value in the following turns
Am i the only one who noticed the dawn charm missing the space between “that” and “would”
Cinderella, not Ratt.
For me, it’s usually when the deck, through other changes, the card regains its place.
not a sentence
@@danacoleman4007 Without the dependent clauses, “For me, the card regains its place.” I’m a technical writer. I may have used too many commas, but it’s a sentence.
great video, guys!
7:27 golgari charm old and busted new set card new hotness
🎉 YAY!!! Sportsball! 🎉
This one's for Joey: cards that you wind up putting back in after taking out...how about Nightmare Unmaking in the Upping the Average on Anje Falkenrath this week? ;-)
FIRES OF YAVIMAYA!!!
My cuts and un-cuts depends on my group over time. I find myself re-adding shit-tons of sweepers. The power level has been creeping up over time and there's a lot of players that can shit out too many threats too early.
no shit?
@@danacoleman4007 Your contribution is noted.
I know I'm super late to this video here, but man that sponsor push was rough lol. The rest of the episode was great.
Hey brokos has an infect subtheme and all 25% of those decks should be playing blighted agent. Infect creatures arent very common and having one with evasion to swing in early is important to start putting a timer on people's life totals
- Hear something about "new hotness"
- Look up to see lady Lavinia
You had my curiosity, now you have my attention
Lands
Whoah Whoah Whoah.... Deadbridge Chant is a bomb in my kathril aspect warper deck. Everyone knows that if I get this down and leave it there it forces my deck to just go off. I run a bunch of dredge cards and this always hits at least one which can easily see me go from this card going down on my second main phase to my upkeep with at least 25 cards or more. All the yummy keywords to make a bug that kills on sight
You might consider Sudden Disappearance in your Thalisse deck
You know, Moxfield keeps a log of deck changes automatically.
Archidekt ain't it, gents.
Joey, why did you block me on Twitter? Lol
First :D!
I want a recount.
winds of abandon exiles each creature you don't control. Joey shouldn't get lands off of his creatures
Joey does not ever imply that he would get lands from his creatures, and specifically praises the card for being a one-sided wipe that clears the way for his attacking army.
