GG, I was the opponent in game 3. That Beseech right as I was stabilizing with Cottage was pretty sad. I did get too greedy against the Vinelasher pings, so hubris I guess. Happy to be in your video! 😄
@@Chris-ng3gz it wouldn't have mattered, opponent still had the choice of tapping the land to take 1 damage in response to LVD casting second rite, putting him at 9 and denying the card effect
@@bdub884 Well the smart thing is of course that letting the nightmare resolve would put the opponent to 9, which he knows. Therefore opponent may surmise LvD does not have a second rite.

@@braedenwinstead1984 True, but this deck is the sneaky kind of evil. Nobody would think of playing this in Standard. Kenji had some spicy wins in his latest quick draft video with this.
Such an interesting card and it makes for such an interesting deck. Somewhere between burn and combo, with lots of puzzle solving along the way (especially in a meta with painlands).
I thought so too, attack for two guaranteed, then the death trigger resulting from Beseech sacrificing the (surviving) enchantment creature will resolve before the Beseech resolves. Right?
You might consider running Valgavoths Lair. Being locked into only one color isn't ideal but it gives you another enchantment to sac to beseech if needed at which point the game is probably over and your lands don't matter.
At the foundations prerelease I had two of these in my deck. I only won 2 out of the 6 games I played that night. Both wins were with hidetsugus second rite 😂
Valgavoth's ability to cast the spells it steals can only be activated on that player's turn. You're not at risk of them "responding" to your Rite with a Burst Lightning as long as you're using Rite on your own turn. EDIT: Also, in that game against the Convoke Rabbits player, you could have won a turn earlier by attacking with both of your Teeth creatures for the guaranteed 2 damage, putting them at 11. Then you cast Beseech, sacrificing the remaining Teeth creature to bring them to 10, searching up Rite and casting it for free to win the game. Giving them one extra turn didn't end up mattering in the end, but you couldn't have known that and should have won before then when their mana was tapped and could do nothing to stop it.
Correct that it couldn't be done in response. Had to go on opponent's turn to make sure there was enough mana, though, at which point why give them the extra card? Even though they might not be that likely to make the cosmic brained play of firing the Burst back immediately to get off of 10 life.
Second rite in boros burn is so fast. If you curve out they die at turn 4 before doing anything, and not drawing rite just means they die a turn later.
11:10 if the opponent tapped both battlefield forges for 1 life each, bringing them from 11 to 9, they could’ve stopped your plan right? Especially since you only had 2 mana. I guess they are probably scared but not sure about exactly what
If you can respond to the Vine Lasher’s landfall trigger with Second Rite, surely you can respond just as easily to the Jagged Barrens “enters” ability?
In match 2 near the end when opp was at 11 with battlefield forge untapped and they were attacking, rather than create golems why not block just with fear of lost teeth? If they didn't see the BF line, then it'd bring them to ten. Or they respond to fear of lost teeth's drain with BF damage then you respond to teeth's trigger with your trap card.
@LegenVD Doesn't the extra damage from the desert cost the deck some control? Is the tradeoff of having a tapped land worth that extra, but potentially compromising 1 damage? Game four 4 was perhaps an outlier, but in such a low curve deck it's an interesting choice either way
I think that card could be actually playable if it couldn't get countered and if it would do some damage to the opponent (2 or 3) when the 10 life condition is not met
I have made this deck week ago. it's complety broken by dominaria shocklands and other instant amenities. it's a just a fun deck, too much delicate and luck based for be strong. deleted after a day of fun.
Glad the rite was downgraded to uncommon. When an opponent can hose your wincon just by pinging themselves with their lands to 9 life, it makes the games a lot trickier.
Match 6 could have won a turn sooner swing both teeth blocked on ping face puts opponent to 11 then bargain using the other before to ping to 10 and second rite lethal

Why did he loose 1 life?
Cause of the land he kept from a long time@@chopari31
lost it at the "you've activated my trap card" line lmao
he could have attacked with the fear of lost teeth and had him on check anyway haha
"You've already had rite."
"But what about second rite?"
Actually, you're right.
Card idea: Helidetsugu's First Rite
If target opponent has exactly 20 life, deal 10 damage to target opponent
“Second rite at home”

what about a couple of demolition fields to try to counter the painland stall?
Very clunky in a deck that wants to play Beseech on curve.

Yup, I came to the comments for the same reason. Those creeps are pretty useful to get to 10

Indeed, although it does enter tapped is the problem.

Maybe getting that annoying bat as a evasive form of damage that also snatch one card from the opponent?
Now you gotta do a Triskaidekaphobia deck!
If this takes off people will start holding up untapped painlands just to bring themselves below 10 life at instant speed.

Use Torgaar, he drops target opponent to 10 life as an ETB effect. Two card combo tho
Why was it a trap card? Why did opponent get hit for 1 at 14:23?
Pain land
is torgaar not in this format?
Killing opponents twice: From their life total suddenly falling from 10 to 0, and from the embarrassment of getting pantsed by such a gimmicky card.
Ah yes, life total control. My facorite archetype
Can this deck be viable in best of 3?

Ugh alternate win cons are stupid.
The great thing is you don’t have to play with it bud
What's "alternate win con" about Second Rite? It's burn that gets the opponent to zero. Nothing alternate about it.
