Here we go, we are continuing our journey of Arcane!
Since it was highly recommended by all of our viewers to trust in the story, we are going to do just that. We don't know what to expect from Arcane just yet, but we are sure keen to see whether it lives up to its hype! So... without further ado, here is the infamous episode three!

@@clintbeastwood5116 as far as I know she blew the minds of everyone with those lines and did them only one time, at least this is what I got from a Q&A stream with the VAs
I'm glad you actually noticed Silco's expression when Powder told him "She is not my sister anymore". A lot of reactors don't comment on this, but you can see the subtle expressions on his face and how he truly connects with her on exactly what you said. He was going to kill her, but then he saw Powder was in the exact same position he was, abandoned, betrayed by their "sibling". Of course, Powder doesn't know that Vi just needed some space and wasn't abandoning her, but she doesn't know that, and that's where the tragedy hits the hardest.
This is one of the series dramatic peaks. Glad you've reached this point. And it's still an outstanding season. Hope you enjoy it.

I really really want to add something to that but that would be a MAJOR spoiler so i´m gonna hold off on that.
His voice change is also an important detail. When he first talks to Powder he's using his sickly-sweet fake nice voice, but when he says "it's okay" he actually sounds genuinely gentle.
When Vi sees the broken monkey toy part, I don't think she thinks that Powder blew up the place. She thinks the worst, i.e., Powder showed up, trying to help, and died.

Prologue: This is a dark story.
Episodes 1&2: This is a family adventure show.
Episode 3: Remember when I told you it was a dark story. Here you go.
Episode 3, as the fishermen say, set the hook for the story.
This episode really needed the first two episodes being paced the way it is.
Love how that was the first thing brought up during the end of episode review.
The voice acting of this episode was amazing, as was the visuals and story. One of the best episodes of TV in 2021 imo

This show has amazing parallels. If you remember the beginning, where you see Silco float in the water, that mimics perfectly the way Powder "floats" through the air after her monkey-bomb went off. Kind of setting up visually that they're connected.
Vi's reaction to Powder is so tragic... the way she says "you did this...?", then the slap and her realization that she just hurt her little sister when seeing the blood come out of her nose. Her walking away because she knows she can't stay around her right now.
And Powder's VA did insane, the cries were so harrowing. Powder hearing she's "a jinx, Milo was right". All she wanted was to be needed, to feel part of her sister's group, due to the trauma of losing her parents at really young age and seeing Vi as her role model.

It was painful to watch their interaction.... and I felt Vi really dealing with the pain she suffered with everyone dying... but then to know it was at the hands of her younger sister..... and battling to choose whether she should be a grieving daughter/friend or an older sister to comfort Powder....
The Va was next level. I felt everything and more..... it broke me!

@@SpartanandPudgey you will often see these kind of paralells in the show. another example is the use of the arcane crystals. on one hand you see jayce and victor doing everything in their power to make the world better and in the end have a mayor breakthrouth. on the other side power uses it at the same time to greate a giant explosion, that kills almost everyone she loves

There are just so many to comment on that I love, that we could do a 2 hour video.... 😅
as i see it this story doesnt really have dark villains and shinning heroes. these are complex characters, with motivations and agendas. that's what sets this apart from many other series.
9 Annie award in 9 nominations. a GOAT story, a beautiful animation and a superb soundtrack. this is a labor of love, seen in the many, many, maaany details throughout.
In this las scene you see Silco looking at Vander, lying dead, his brother, that once tried to kill him, betraying him. And Powder, his stepdaughter, on Silco's arms, alone and betrayed as well. On that moment he knows: he will stand with her. Against everything. And everyone. Against them all. She will not be forsaken as he was. Some will cry manipulation. I say he means it, i say he wants to make sure that child wont be left fending for herself. And isn't that all you really need? Someone beside you to "show them all"?
I couldn't agree more. One thing Arcane does well is flushing out character motivations... so every viewer can see a little piece of themselves in each character.

I'm super confused by the idea that Silco isn't manipulating Powder. He sympathises with her because he PROJECTS onto her, but doesn't actually care about Powder per se - if he was genuine he would want to HELP her not use her mental distress against her. He recruited her at like 10 years old to "show them all" - to be a murderer and monster because HE was slighted. I think people forget in the moment....... SILCO IS THE REASON ALL OF THIS HAPPENED AND HE KNOWS IT. His WHOLE INTENTION was to kill the kids and use Vander as a killing machine with shimmer. He literally laid an ambush. He KNOWS that this whole situation is his fault. So the sympathy toward Powder is not genuine for HER plight, it's him projecting his pain onto a child.
He was going to straight up murder her, before he projected his own issues onto her. There is nothing at all noble or good about anything Silco did with Powder. He wanted someone to relate to him and trauma bond with him and be his second hand. He does nooooooot give a flying f*ck about her actual wellbeing, so long as it's beneficial. You really think someone that cares about a child would allow them to go through the absolute mental trauma that Powder does? and INITIATE and ENCOURAGE that despair!?

@@racheljohnson3850 Yes and no, Silco is just a broken man, so triying to see with the same moral we have is not a good answer to this situation. Silco show a lot of good father traits in a bad context, so is a gray situation all over the place. like you said "he sympathises with her because he PROJECTS onto her" but this is true only in the first aproach, in the end of of the season this can be discuss a lot.
Vi definitely doesn't think Powder caused that explosion. Vi knows that Powder's 'bombs' can't do anything close to that so the thought would be impossible for her. She does know her sister was there and assumes she may have died also.

There's also the fact that Vi clearly acts surprised and asks "You did this?" when Powder proudly claims that her monkey bomb finally worked.
It's a very easy mistake to make when we first see the broken monkey bomb but I fully agree with your assessment on it.
This show is a masterpiece. Recently there was an award show for best animation, caracter and so on and Arcane was nominated for 9 awards. Arcane won all 9. The only award it dident win was 1 it just couldent be nominated for becouse of a deadline that hade passed.

@@SpartanandPudgey on a side note a lot of people don’t understand powders freak out moment but being someone who has suffered panic attacks. That one was an extreme one amplified by her past trauma. Totally understandable.

The sisters are a fantastic symmetry of each other. They are both screwups in their own ways.
The simplest way to put it: Powder is very bad at executing fairly good ideas, while Vi is fairly good at executing very bad ideas.
Vi consistently makes horrible decisions.. like the decision to pull off the heist, or the decision to keep the crystals a secret from Vander, or the original bad decision she makes in the very first scene.. to bring her little kid sister (5 years old or so?) onto a bridge full of fire and smoke and death and murder.
Side note: Powder sees everything on that bridge.. she's peeking through her fingers the entire time.. the very first thing she sees on that bridge is an explosion and a flying body, followed by someone being murdered by an enforcer's rifle with a point-blank shot.... DARK STUFF INDEED.
Powder makes decent decisions.. take the crystals.. pretty good idea.. dropped one on the floor, bad execution. Run from the kid, good idea... gets cornered, bad execution. Hide around the corner, good idea, almost works.. but knocks the board over, messes it up. Even with the monkey bomb.. not a horrible idea.. but she had seen ONE of them blow up the side of a building... then she puts two inside and one more on the outside and sends it to explode right next to the door her family is hiding behind.. decent idea but bad execution.
I very much love this comment and the way in which you conveyed both characters strengths and weaknesses.
I couldn't agree more how much they mirror each other. It's almost as if, what one lacks, the other provides and vice versa... which is what makes you sit at the edge of your seat, and wish nothing but the best for both of them.

That is a great analogy, and one I hadn’t noticed. Thank you for that. I believe Vi thinks she’s a pretty simple person. She can punch, or walk away. Not much subtlety there, but sometimes punching isn’t the answer. But, when it’s all you know how to do, what else is there?
Also, the enforcer on the bridge (I don’t think anybody else has mentioned this) shoots the other guy, which sends him flying back, then reloads, and just casually uses a one-hand hold to put another round into the body. That sort of casual arbitrary cruelty hooked me.
EDIT; I don’t agree with your view that young Vi taking Powder to the bridge was a necessarily a ‘bad’ idea. They were obviously just trying to find their parents, and had no idea what was going on. I’d say Vi did the right thing by telling Powder to cover her eyes. It’s not her fault Powder peeked.

Honestly there is tons of great extra content, but I recommend you hold off on most of it until after the show. I do highly recommend you watch "Enemy" by Imagine Dragons between episodes 6 and 7 however.

honestly, I don't care much about any other LoL based stuff. I'm in the "this show never needed LoL to be amazing" camp and don't think that any LoL centric content adds to the appreciation of Arcane. Yes, Arcane came from that game... but I wouldn't add tree bark to my maple syrup just because it came from a tree.
Seeing both of you guys and especially Pudgey react to the explosion scene, made me go from laughing at first from the anticipation, to tear up alongside you. I read someone saying that this is the biggest hit but that there are other strong episodes later on, but I will strongly disagree! This was what made the show feel likes its gonna be something amazing and special, but in my opinion this is the start and not the peak. It keeps getting better and better from now on!
Ill keep waiting to see your reactions to the next episodes hopefully I wont have to wait long!

Awaken, warriors, and the call are the big League videos to watch. For music videos, Enemy is def a must watch that makes episode 7 hit harder in the feels and helps connect you with the story a bit more. Get Jinxed is another one that kinda makes an appearance in the show as well! Hope you enjoy them, fam!

Eh, I would advise against that if they don't already know characters from the game. Let them guess who lives and who dies on their own.
Is this in regards to the series in general? Or does the game and these videos give context passed s1 of arcane?
@@SpartanandPudgey all those other videos you should definitely wait to watch until youve finished arcane. Arcane is a better experience for those who dont know the league of legends universe at all, since you wont get any spoilers
@@SpartanandPudgey Aye. ARCANE is an origin story. Seeing everything from which characters survive to what their general relationships are to what they're like in game essentially give away certain portions of how the season ends.
Moreover, while I'm not sure how you'd go about acquiring them, if it's just the two of you searching on UA-cam, your search results or algorithm suggestions will surely end up showing the spoilery titles or thumbnails of related videos.
It's up to you, but I chose to avoid all LoL and ARCANE content while watching the series and I enjoyed the show to point of becoming an evangelist for it.
The thing about Vander going all out and into fight again...it is quite sad actually, since he wanted to leave this behind and never do it again, he openly refused to fight anymore all the time even when his own life was threatened, so seeing him going back to that is really heartbreaking and sad, even if it looks great, it is still very sad to watch.
Also Vi didn't know that Powder did it, nobody knew that those crystals have this power. Only we, the viewer, know it. Powder realized that they are capable of doing this when she had her breakdown. What Vi actually seems to realize in the scene with the Monkey head is, that Powder also got into the crossfire and died.

Hard to believe but after episode 3 Silco becomes one of the best characters in the entire show. When i finished the first act the week it came out i didnt think much of Silco but the second and third act really turned him from just a decent villain into one of the best written characters in the story. The story only improves from here and I'm excited to be here and watch it with you guys!

what was the point of spoiling this. come on now
So I said on episode one that episode three makes the first two episodes better in retrospect and you pretty much summed it up right away. The first two episodes really lull you into this false sense of security that this is going to be a fun little romp with some kids doing mischief but taking out so big bad underground organization. These expectations are created over a lifetime of being fed the same stories. Arcane uses these same story tropes and then suddenly turns them on their head messing with your expectations, making the third episode even more impactful. Freaking love it!
Also one note, the last scene where the scene fades away and everything is moving away is Vi's perspective as she slowly loses consciousness as she is dragged away by Marcus.
I've commented elsewhere that this episode is where the show goes from The Goonies to King Lear in what can only be described as a dramaturgical magic trick.

I disagree i cant stand watching people that just dismiss the show and its first to 2 episodes are just kids show stuff.
you guys should react to the music video for enemy but it’s best to wait and watch it between episodes 6 and 7

@@chance1774 Never watched a single one before I watched the series. Didn't need to. The series was designed to work on its own with zero foreknowledge.
Given the critical praise, popularity, and awards, when it comes to looking/watching related videos, I don't think the risk is worth the reward.
@@AngeloBarovierSD if you say so buddy, i was just sharing what others have shared. there’s plenty of channels that watched it in between with no issues. i didn’t watch the video until after the show either but it IS possible to watch and not be spoiled. the spoilers come when people point out specific things instead of just letting them enjoy the content. i’m fine either way but they asked for a recommendation so i gave it. i’ve actually never really seen any other league content and i’m fine with that lol.

Vi didnt know Powder caused the explosion. She could never imagine Powder was capable of it so she just thought Powder followed them and died in the explosion

When Vi first looks around while still stuck under the debris, the show makes one think she realizes Powder was behind it by showing the monkey bomb head. Maybe it's just an initial suspicion and she can't believe it in that moment. Certainly open to interpretation.

Just so you know i worked for Disney and many of their productions but you have to give any TV series three episodes. Because it takes a minute to let people get invested. If this was episode one you guys wouldnt feel a thing.
Of course!! Compeleeeeetely agreed! We just didn't know whether we felt it lived up to the hype just yet... rather than thinking we wanted all the nitty gritty from the first episode.
You guys should look up the age of powders voice actor when she made that scene. In an interview she said that it was done in almost 1take.

Someone probably already mentioned this by now, but if not... Arcane is split into 3 acts. Each 3 episodes make up an act. This was the ending of Act 1. Although personally I think the whole show is incredible (probably my BIAS as a league player plays into that), but I do understand when people feel first 2 episodes are slow, since they are set up for the finale of the act. I also think first 2 episodes are the weakest of the show. You can also look at it as 3 separate movies, in which each 3 episodes make up a movie.

Powder yelling "why did you leave me?" and then calling out to Vi as she walks away is...destructive. Ella Purnell did an excellent job voicing the character, in fact she won an Annie Award a few days ago for her performance as Powder.
Not trying to be a pompus ass, but Ella Purnell wasn't actually the one that voiced Powder, she voices Jinx in episode 4 onwards. Powder was voiced by Mia Sinclair Jenness.

Antagonist...not villain.. The concept of villain is so one dimensional.. I'm glad you saw Silco's symmetry with Powder in regard to Vander and Vi. It's one thing this series does, it present characters that have.. understandable motivations, even if not always thought as 'good'..
Powder has issues, it's hard to quantify but they are there , the tantrum we saw wasn't the only indication, if you go back to the very opening scene of the first episode you can see the scratchy jerky reactions that were plaguing her mind even at that young age. Odds are she was born with a chemical imbalance that made her predisposed to become what she was. Fully diagnosed let alone offered any sort of treatment due to her place in society.
True, antagonist is much better suited.
I think one thing that Spartan and I find when we watch series is that even though the antagonist is meant to fall short of forgiveness.... we always somehow connect with reasons to forgive. And this show did a powerful job at that.
Yes, it was always a very thin line for Powder. But an excellent job to the voice actor..... I really connected with her struggles.

Welcome to the episode that both broke and hooked fans.
And yes, Episodes 1 and 2 are slower by necessity, but the build-up and pay-off is all worth it in this literally explosive episode.
The tragic/complicated/great thing about what happened is that I understand both sides. I understand why Vi reacted the way she did; I don't condone it, but I understand it. She's still a teenager, a kid really, who just lost all the rest of her family at the hands of her little sister. She's angry, traumatized, devastated, and high on adrenaline from fighting. So she loses her temper and slaps Powder. And you can see that she quickly realizes what she's done and is horrified, but the anger towards Powder is still there. So she walks away to get some space...
On Powder's side...there's a common trope, especially in fantasy type stories: the group screw-up struggles with a particular skill, only to pull it off perfectly in the big moment. Arcane doesn't subvert this trope...it plays it heartbreakingly straight. Powder is a young girl who is trying to make BOMBS and is told by people in and out of universe to make them better. She gets a chance in this episode; her bombs will finally work! And they do. They work so very, very well...
And so the sisters are separated, in one terrible night of tragedy.
I love this sum up!!
The series does so well to allow the viewers to walk a mile in each characters shoes and we can really empathise with all of them, or at least the ones we connect with the most!

@@SpartanandPudgey Riot games is the developer of the game League of Legends. Once you're done with Arcane you an check some of the other promotional animations various other teams have done to promote certain aspects of the game and the lore surrounding it. Some are fun animations that are meant to signify the start of a new competitive season (annual), while others explore the lore of some of the other characters League has to offer.

One of the most emotional anime episodes I have ever seen. The rollercoaster this puts you through is insane. Just as you have hope it all goes south. Then, just as you hit rock bottom, you have hope in Vander. Then just as you feel things may have hope again, all hope is stripped. If anything can induce anxiety, it's episode 3.

Ep3 - Tears; "One of us...One of us" -- Congrats!
If these aren't pre-recorded very far in advance and you still have time to do it, I STRONGLY recommend watching the music video for "Imagine Dragons - Enemy" between episodes 6 and 7. I think it enhances 7 so much, and there are not really any spoiler things in the music video. As far I as I know it is pretty much all original animation/footage in the video and that's coming from someone that's seen Arcane like 5 or 6 times through on my own and seen almost every reactor go through it that I can easily find.
I don't know when the music video was officially released while Arcane was releasing in 3 episode blocks, but I'd imagine it was between 6 and 7 as it makes the most sense. If you only trust one comment ever here on UA-cam, please be this one

There are no gaps to fill IMO, the music video for example is just extra glimpses, perfect for after the show. Not sure where this idea comes from to watch things interjected, glad you indend to leave these for afterwards.

Remember Vi hear Powder says "my monkey bomb really work" and Vi says "you do that?" Thats is the break moment of know powder is responsable of all deaths.

This episode is a massive turning point in the series and still my favourite of the 9. It just goes so damn hard, especially after the first 2 episodes were quite slow in their pacing. Anyway, enjoying these reactions so ill sub :D

This is the episode that grabbed me as well but I think that is true for most people. I am curious by the end who your favorite characters will be, I was honestly surprised who my top 3 was by the end. i won't name them but I am curious how you feel about the characters as the show goes on.
That's the strongest hit in the series, but there are some more in the episodes 6, 7 and 9. Enjoy it!

You lovely couple have crossed over into a masterpiece that most critics are calling this show it only get better from here. I have watched that last scene several times and I tear up everytime naybe I'm a softie or just a new animation classic that Disney didn't make and will be for this new generation. My favorite episode is 7 but some say 6 but the treat is that you will find out why and I suggest you guys should check out Imagine Dragon's music video Enemy before continuing. Remember it's a lot duality between different characters that share similar or opposite faiths and also in this storytelling a lot of foreshadowing.
It is definitely a powerful scene! I think most viewers will definitely choke up in that last scene.

Thats what a GOOD show does.
Set the scene, pacing it, build it up, make all the connections, let it breath and THEN go to the big emotional or action packed crescendo.
The instant-gratification generation has all but eliminated good story telling with their greed and gold fish attention spans.
If nothing "AWESOME" happens within 10 minutes of the first episode they tune out, give it 1 star and say it sucked.

If you don't cry in Ep3, you're either not watching or not human.
Believe it or not.... it just keeps getting better from here. I would say not to watch any of the RIOT LoL vids until after you finish the show. There is potential to spoil some things that are meant to be surprises. IF you have already finished ep.7 then watching the "Enemy" music video would be ok because it will drive home the emotional weight of a particular scene. I would reccomend the "Get Jinxed" video for after you are finished with Season 1.

Watch Enemy right after episode 6! Episode 7 hits different (more impactful) if you've watched that music video. It can get a bit spoilery, but I feel like it's only if you know what you are looking for. And even if you pick up on the details, it's still worth it because of the impact on the next episode, in my opinion.
You don't need to watch "Get Jinxed!" music video, but it's a fun easter egg. But if you do watch it, DON'T WATCH IT UNTIL AFTER EPISODE 9, because spoilers.

There’s a lot of comparison between Arcane and traditional Greek tragedies, complete with the music being a part of the story (it was all custom written for the show) and the writing being ambiguous to whether things would have even been alright had the tragic part not happened (if the good guys would’ve escaped if Powder hadn’t intervened). Good stuff.

What I love about these character that you don't see much in entertainment lately, is that they are strong characters that we can all identify with, but they really screw up horribly. The writers need to have a lot of faith in themselves and their characters to let them mess up in ways that make the whole world worse, and still know that the audience will fall in love with them.
At this point, we ALL admire Vi, and wish we could know her or be her despite seeing her fail, and seeing her accidentally drive away her sister. THAT'S a strong character.
Yes, their character development and relatabaility is definitely a strong point for the series!

Wish I could say, "Yay, you finally understand what this show was trying to achieve with the first two episodes". But, nuance, character, and world-building are concepts you clearly don't understand. As in, the third episode would never be as impactful if the previous two episodes didn't spend the time setting up the payoff. But I know I'm being harsh and unfair in my judgment. You're a UA-cam reaction channel after all. Keep doing you and reacting/enjoying shiny "key shaking" surface level reactions. If you were bored with the first two episodes, then so much will be missed in your reactions to episodes 4-9. But at least there are many "cool/flashy/shiny" fight scenes for you to enjoy and react to.
