I have been holding onto my t shirts my daughter has bought me over the years, you know those I love Mom t shirts. Now after watching your tutorial on how to make tarn and my daughter is married, I thought I would take them from the bottom drawer and make a keepsake throw for myself that I can actually use! But wait, then there are those old t shirts of my husbands stored in the closet.....thank you so much! I am going to be hibernating over the winter with my scissors, t shirts and my P crochet hook!
I've made two baskets following this pattern within 24 hours. One of my baskets I made by following the pattern exactly and the other I added handles. Your pattern and instructions are so easy to follow and they worked up super fast. Thank you so much!
This is so very cool. I just made one. Going to use it for my 6 year old Grandson's Easter Basket. I teach a high school Dec Arts Class. I'm going to have this as one of their final project choices. I can see a lot of them choosing this. Not bad when 8 weeks ago they didn't know how to crochet at all. THANK YOU!!!
WOW! I sure wish I had this pattern when I had four boys playing ball. Well, now is the grandchildren's time, I will be making these for their mothers. Thanks!!
I just want to I have learned so much from your videos and that I appreciate all of the free patterns you spend endless hours video tapping for all of us noons out here. thank you and I look forward learning so much more here!
Thank you so very much! Other videos on UA-cam don't show how to make tshirt yarn in two methods. Your tip on stretching it out after cutting it was so helpful!
I love the idea of recycling old T-shirts as well, saves money. I added flowers to the basket to make gift sets out of them, thank you again for this fantastic idea. I'll keep my eyes open for more tutorials you may have up your sleeve, LOL :)
+Sherry Chase Glad the video could help! I have a few t-shirt videos on my channel - been working over the past few weeks of getting things grouped into playlists and all - so I'll see if I can find it.
Thank you so much for this information, I love it, I had to go an run out an get T-Shirts from a thrift store in which I got a good deal on T-Shirts, thank you again, I love learning new things, my cat is waiting patiently for his basket, I spoil my fur babies
This is soooooooo awesome I am totally going to take all my husbands old shirts since he is a big man there the perfect size and tshirt yarn can be pricey thanks for the great vid !!!!
I love the t shirt yarn idea but I substituted plastic bag yarn, plarn, I already made to make floor mats for this basket pattern. the size Q hook was a bit too loose using plarn, I'll try it again with an N hook. I'm making another one with 2 strands of #4 acrylic and 8mm hook. Thank you for this great idea!
I absolutely loved this tutorial! It was so easy to follow and quick to work up! It only took me 6 hours to complete. :) I also wound up turning my basket inside out at the end and got a fun curling effect on the top edge!
Hi Naztazia, thank you for sharing this video with us. You have clear instructions which are easy to follow, especially for people like me. I have mild brain damage and sometimes its very hard to read instructions and also follow them. I look forward to having a go at this.
Thanks for this tutorial. Your video is very well shot, extremely clear. Your teaching manner is also very clear and easy to follow. You make a great teacher. I like the hints such as stretching the T-shirt material to make the yarn curl up and the way to knot the ends together.
Thanks for this tutorial. I really needed yarn and a basket to keep all my crafts but all the nice baskets in the store are way too expensive. I love how u explained everything nicely and I understood it all. Thx very much
You are a good presenter. Very clear instructions. Excellent angle for video and great voice narrating process. Thanks! Wondering if you have a similar video for crochets ottoman or large pouf.
Amazing beautiful work . Never thought of using shirts .. I will try this because I've been wanting to make some baskets but couldn't find the heavy enough yarn , but now I can .. thank you
@Al Melendez - feel free to substitute something else if you do not wish to do the magic ring, such as a chain 3 or 4, then slip stitch to the beginning chain to form a ring :)
Your method/explanation of the magic ring though! lol Genius way to put it. I had such a hard time learning it being left handed watching all the videos where you cross over and twist and all the other stuff lol
Awesome! How many regular shirts, you think, I'd need to make enough yarn for this project? I'm doing the spring cleaning and maybe instead of donating old t-shirts, I could just make them all into yarn! Thanks again for your explanations, they're crisp! crystal clear!
This is genius! I just recently started crocheting and took to it like a fish to water lol. I can honestly say, ive never seen a hook that big though hahaha! I was surprised when I saw what you were working with :)
With the scraped hemmed pieces that i cutoff instead of tossing them in the trash i made a braided rope and crochet the other to make a very sturdy cat toy. It works and it was fun and very easy to make. No need to buy cat toys, when you can make them~~cc
This looks really easy and I love the ability to both DIY and recycle. I can do a few of these as Christmas gifts in different colors for my friends. Thank you so much for sharing this Donna!! :D
this was quite a useful video. very neat idea. I admired your idea of the yarn itself and the idea of you sharing the technique to make it. The basket was a nice touch as well. Thank you.
You can cut Xxl t-shirts in large rectangle by cutting 1 side, arm and up to neck. Open up & cut across arm pit of opposite side. Once in a flat, large rectangle, lay on table, counter and use rotary cutter with straight edge (meter stick or stainless steel rulers...) to quickly cut in perfect strips in width of choice. Stretch into T-shirt string or yarn. I have spent thousands of hours on the floor, crying with cramped fingers cutting yards of T-shirt fringe for projects...😭. I finally found that laid out fabric and rotary scissors with straight edge make it so much faster and painless to get to the end result. It zips by like a factory belt once you get your system down. ☺🏆. For bottom of basket, Mod Podge in gloss glazed a few times gives an amazing effect on sturdiness too. Thank You for this tutorial! Was fun watching. 😊👕!
Absolutely brilliant. Thank you so much for your time in making this video, and easy to follow instructions. I'll definitely be making that basket. Thank you again. Kind regards, Laura in England. Xx
