  • Bear Trap.... again...:( Well, just thought I'd throw one at you gi lovers. This is an exceptional way to use the trap with the help of the lapel to come up to turtle or a leg drag position if your opponent sits to their hip. Enjoy!

Great content once agian ! Does anyone know if the bear trap is legal below brown belt according to the ibjjf? (Assuming you just use it to sweep/control and don´t apply the pressure to turn it in to an obvious calf slicer)

Thanks Tor! Here is my answer from another video... I"ll look to find out for sure as soon as I can :)
-----"That's a great question Chris as this is a potential calf slicer. Depends on the tournament, but if you are asking about IBJJF rules, then I can say that in recent years they have been much better at determining when the actual submission is trying to be applied vs just used to gain control or transition to another position. The referees do a great job overall, but it may fall into a gray area and be left up to the referee. It should be allowed as long as you do not forcefully attempt any submission... but don't hold me accountable if you happen to get DQ'ed :) Next time I am at the referee course, I will ask. Hope that helps."
