Hello Steve, thank you for watching. Its does do more than just block the wind. With the Therm-a-capture reflective barrier it reflects your body heat back up towards you. Believe me you can feel a difference. I feel it will allow you to sleep comfortably in a hammock about 10 degrees lower than you would without it. I only use a hammock when its 60 degrees and above and I'm using a 50 degree bag. With the Hammock Warmer I can sleep comfortably at 50. If you use an under quilt as it gets colder than that , I would not consider it a replacement for the under quilt but something you could add to the outside of it to help insulate and protect your under quilt. Well it still makes a lot of crinkling noise, but I can see where you could use this to hold a warmer form of insulation under your hammock, such as a windshield reflector, that is also very light weight. Otherwise, is +5 degrees worth the price?

thank you for the review i was deciding to do one myself but yours is realy nice and informative.
It is more of a wind break than a warming cover. Of course you will be warmer if you block the wind... no replacement for an under quilt.
