I have the RZ50 and it is IMAX Enhanced! Finally IMAX will be put to the test.
Same I’m so hype. If you’d like to test it now zombie land 2 has imax enhanced and it is great I had to keep turning it down as I watched it very detailed and will put your speakers to the test.
@@StevetheTechBro Do you have the RZ50?
Bro, you mean there’s no IMax enhance disc version to see if your system can test? Not even Maverick with Tom Cruise?
@@mptobler1 yes and I love every moment of it!
Exactly same here
Those with DTS X Pro capable receivers should get 13ch’s of audio with the center height and top center speaker configuration. Just can’t wait
Come on Apple, get that update going!
Thank you Ealan for the info and demo 👍🏼👊🏼🏴🇬🇧
Looking forward to the upcoming video comparison between Dolby Atmos and DTS.
Me too! 😁🎉
Subjectively dts x sounds better to my old ears...
Tha Nvidia Shield Pro does decode DTS X Master audio. BTW, thank you Elan, that’s awesome news.
Thanks for the update.
You’re welcome!
OMG!!! THANKS!!!!
I love this additional technology to Disney+. Wonder if this is where DTS (the Dolby rival) gonna be popular
LG C9 fully support dts & imax audio . CX C1 and C2 dont. But in pretty sure lg wont give imax update for disney on the old OS version
Very cool news 👍
My 85" Sony X90K and my Marantz Cinema 50 both are IMAX ready 👌
I've been using the Amazon 4k fire stick max mostly for all my streaming. Until the fire stick gets an update I'll need to use the streaming app from my Sony tv?
That is correct. 👍
Cant wait 👍
FYI, the LG C9 was the last TV to support DTS via ARC.
Hi! Did you get the update for your C9 to be able to get DTS:X yet? I have the same TV but I’m in Latin America, and the updates sometimes are released at different times.
Unfortunately (which I found out from other home theater enthusiasts) only newer select Sony, TCL & Hisense TVs work with this initial launch. I should be getting a Sony TV soon, but until then, I’m out of luck testing this.
Nice one!
Hi I wonder if it will be available on my Sony X94J which has IMAX and DTS audio I also have the Sony xf9000 soundbar which has DTS X.. it works perfectly on bravia core so hopefully it will work fine with everything else..
While I’m not 100% certain, I’m pretty sure you’re good? But even I still have a lot of questions. Hopefully all will be revealed come May 15th! 🤞
Thats why i bought the nvidia shield. It is pretty amazing. It was ahead of the game. Shame they haven't released a new one in years.
Hi Ealan, thxs for the heads up on Dts-X - any word on the firmware for the Nvidia Shield to update the decoding?
No, not yet. "Sometime later this year" is what DTS's Sven Mevissen said, but he may have been referring to support on LG TVs...
Does the AVR need to support IMAX Enhanced or is DTS-X support enough if I'm going to stream with IMAX Enhanced enabled TV?
TBD, honestly… 🤷♂️ But I hope that’s the case.
My Samsung Q70R doesn’t pass through DTS. But my Onkyo TX-RZ830 doesn’t do IMAX Enhanced anyway :(
I think the Nvidia Sheild does DTS decoding. I have to check mine. But my Sony av receiver does IMAX Enhanced
Yes! The Shield indeed is one of the few that supports DTS. Hopefully that’ll be all you need with your Sony AVR! 🤞🤞
Apple TV 4k did a system update today. Think they added DTS support for Disney+?
Looks like it's just minor stability and bug fixes. Dang.
I wonder 🤔 if also the PS5 could also support DTS X signature sound on launch date on D+, since you can change the output signal on the system audio menu?
That’s what I’m wondering too… 🤔
Great news! Dolby sure needs competition in the streaming space. But did the DTS contact mention anything about them working with manufacturers to get DTS support added into more existing devices - Apple TV as you mentioned, but also Playstation, Xbox, LG CX-C1-C2 TVs? Seems this will be a flat dud of a landing if it doesn't have broad existing device support and requires too many people to buy new or a very specific combination of hardware. If they don't work on this then Dolby's already built-in advantage with existing hardware is just too massive to overcome no matter how awesome the DTS/IMAX sounds.
I believe that’s why it’s been so delayed, since they needed more device support to happen before the launch. I’m still not clear if it means the device HAS to be IMAX Enhanced certified, or just has DTS:X support. More answers hopefully coming soon!
The LG C9 does pass DTS, it was the CX, C1, and C2 that didn't. But hey if Sony can hook it up with a new TV why not :)
Yeah, so I’ve been told. I totally mixed up that knowledge with the CX/C1/C2. Although who knows if passing DTS from an LG C9 includes IMAX Enhanced as well. 🤷♂️ We’ll see in a month!
FINALLY
Upgraded audio bitrates finally?
I believe so. Not lossless yet, but getting closer. 🎉
@ealanosborne Great news but something I’m not clear on. Is this going to be Lossless Streaming Audio or is it still Lossy?
Still technically lossy, but DTS claims it’s that much closer to lossless. 🤷♂️ We’ll find out on May 15th.
@@ealanosborne thanks. Now I gotta figure out how I’m gonna play these back. My main streaming device is an Apple TV!
@@ealanosborne I'm guessing it's the heretofore rare DTS-HD High Resolution Audio (HRA) implementation of DTS:X, as opposed to the full DTS-HD Master Audio version more commonly seen on Blu-rays (though nowhere near as common as Atmos). The only place thus far where I've seen DTS:X on HRA is the 4K Blu-rays of Fast & Furious 6 and Furious 7; my lowly Vizio soundbar reads those as "DTS Digital Surround" (plain or "core" DTS), but even that is different from non-immersive HRA tracks which it claims are DTS-HD MA, so I'm not sure if it actually handles the HRA or DTS:X parts; will have to contact Vizio support. I do know that higher-end AVRs like Denon & Marantz got firmware updates right after F&F6 and F7 came out; all DTS:X AVRs and soundbars are supposed to support the HRA version but I expect issues with some of them, especially via regular ARC (I think HRA requires eARC or direct HDMI in to the AVR or soundbar). The good news for me is I have an IMAX Enhanced Hisense TV; though I usually use an Apple TV 4K to stream, I should be able to stream it from the Hisense if not the ATV 4K or Roku Ultra. Now, I just have to restart my Disney+ subscription...
Thanks Ealan
You’re welcome, Craig!
What do you mean? C9 supports DTS. The CX-C2 were the ones that pulled support. But the other way to get DTS:x is just grab an Nvidia Shield and plug that into your receiver. It is the master of almost all audio formats.
Oh sweet! I must’ve gotten confused with the CX and C1 TVs… whew!
Yeah no…the LG C9 was the last Model to support DTS -lol
The CX and C2 pulled support for some reason
So far no DTS X on D+ today. Maybe they need to rollout an app update on some devices. I think the update should give the user the option to select the sound format.
Oh dang, that's not promising. Not sure what devices you're using, but have you tried different settings like bitstream or passthrough? I'm eager to try all that myself but won't get off work for another 7 hours. Lol.
According to Sven Mevissen (check out the eCoustics podcast episode they just posted this morning) only select Sony, Hisense and TCL TVs will work as the source for IMAX Enhanced content on Disney+. More compatible devices like LG TVs and/or streamers will gain support later this year. Yikes.
@@marcmolina9708I have a LGC3 and Nvidia Shield. But it seems we will have to wait a bit longer.
@@ealanosbornewhat a bummer after waiting for a long year. Anyway Elan, my admiration for your work and everything you do for the Home Theater community 👏👏👏
@caesarc.4079 yeah, I guess so. Thanks Elan for your channel.
I am really interested in the bitrate of this. I really feel like a lot of streaming atmos mixes suffer in the bass area and I think it has to do with bitrates needing to be scaled back. I used to Demo the Lion King opening with a Blu-ray clip I made with the original audio. When D+ got a 4K Lion King with Atmos, I was excited to hear it. I liked the extra channels, but the BR sound did feel fuller. The real difference was in the bass crash to the title at the end of the song. It's just neutered on the D+ atmos track (streamed with Apple TV 4K). It was a while ago that I tried it, so maybe it is better, but I definitely noticed, and I really hope this does not suffer as well.
You and me both! Can't wait to get more answers when it finally launches.
I have Denon x3800h but no streaming box which supports dts:x. Not sure what are my options?
With this initial launch, apparently it’s only available through more recent 2023/2024 Sony, TLC or Hisense TV’s which support DTS:X, streaming from the built-in Disney+ app to your X3800H via eARC.
But later this year, newer LG TVs and streamers will support the new DTS:X streaming audio codec. Hopefully soon. 🤞🤞
Hey Ealan have you been able to play DTS :X on Disney plus yet or figured out which devices it may work on. I may have to buy an Nvidia shield pro, but I’m afraid it won’t work as well.
Correct. NVIDIA should get support later this year (maybe) as well as newer LG TVs, but for now, only newer select TCL, Hisense and Sony TVs work using their internal Disney+ streaming app. Once I get the TV Sony is sending me, I’ll be able to test it.
@@ealanosborne greatly appreciate you responding back. I really appreciate your channel and look up to you on this platform!
Wow tats great but is this only in US!? Or in other countries also!? So IMAX enhanced will be la lossless audio !?! I hv RZ 50 which has it n fire stick. Can i able to stream those contents!!?
Possibly? Even I won’t be 100% certain until May 15th… 🤷♂️ And no, it won’t be lossless, BUT they claim it’s closer to lossless than Dolby’s streaming Atmos codec.
Oh great! Hv to wait n watch 😅
Roku Ultra has DD+ and DTS passthrough. I wonder if it will work with this??
I’ve read that it’s DTS “basic” passthrough? 🤷♂️ So I’m not 100% sure…
LG C9 does support DTS and DTS:X but it doesn't support streaming IMAX Enhanced DTS indeed.
Yo Ealan😊
My C1 doesn't support dts for e arc to denon, so the answer for imax enhanced is to use an xbox with the dts app, use D+ app off the xbox, and plug your xbox straight into your av receiver, rather than tv. That should work for imax enhanced, if you own an xbox. I think? :)
Hopefully! Things I will be testing once it finally launches! 🙌
Ok - so the Queen video is now available, so how does one turn DTS-X “ON” using a Marantz Cinema50? So far, I am not seeing it on the Marantz app as a choice selection. Puzzling?
Unfortunately, with this initial rollout, it is only supported with select 2023/2024 compatible TCL, Hisense, and Sony TVs, using the built in Disney+ app. If you fall under that category, you should be able to select it in the Disney+ app when you start the Queen Rock Montreal concert in the bottom right corner.
@@ealanosborne Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr . . . 😭🤣😢😂🙃😭😭😭😭 How frustrating! Oh well, things will change again, eventually . . . thanks for the update. Much appreciated.
@@marvinabugov4579 Yep! Newer LG TVs (G4, C4) will supposedly get support later this year? Streaming devices after that, most likely in 2025. But yeah...frustrating. 😭

Ah haaaa! Yay!
Het, Ealan, have you spoken to Sven at Xperi/DTS? He says launch day (May 15) DTS:X on Disney+ will only work on select Sony and HIsense TVs in the US (those with the new DTS:X codec support). NVIDIA Shield, Roku, FireTV Stick and LG TVs will not work. He says WebOS (LG) support is being added but not for launch. I think there's gonna be a few unhappy people on launch day. No standalone streaming sticks or boxes will support the new DTS:X stream.
Yeah, I hadn’t spoken to Sven directly, but I read his official statement about the launch and it still seemed contradictory, as if DTS:X support would still work in some circumstances. But if that is specifically what he told you, that’s good to know! Thanks!! I got a FedEx notification today that Sony is sending 2 items to me ASAP, so hopefully one of those items is the Bravia 7 they promised me. Otherwise it looks like I’m SOL on May 15th. 🤞🤞
@ealanosborne - cool. I'm also supposed to have a Bravia 7 on the way but haven't gotten the FedEx notification yet so you're in better shape than I am. Sven says the key is to have a new DTS:X compatible source. The new codec has the ability to transcode to legacy DTS or DTS:X over DTS-HD RA so older receivers with DTS:X will still work as long as the streaming source has the new DTS:X for Streaming codec on board. Good luck!
@@ChrisBoylan Thanks, Chris! Good luck to you as well! 🤞🙌
Does the nakamichi dragon support Imax?
Technically no, but the fact that it supports DTS:X Pro might be enough? We’ll see once May 15th rolls around
There's nothing on this earth that can save Disney+
Dunno how I missed this (You are subbed!), but this is great news. Now, we need streaming devices like Apple 4k to receive DTS passthrough. I'm glad I have a Sony Bravia TV (A95K) to start lol.
I know, right?! But yeah, you’re lucky to already have a compatible Sony TV already! 🥳
@@ealanosborne Like you said in the vid, I "guess" I can still get DTS through the TV's app? I have the Sony HT-A9 system also.
@@SynjynB Yeah, Sony has a partnership with IMAX, so you should be good.

It’s the end of the month and I don’t see any difference. My DTS icon does not pop up on my Pioneer receiver.
May 15th it launches 👍
Some of those titles already have IMAX enhanced picture, but the audio does indeed still use Atmos. Isn't IMAX enhanced audio just DTSX?
It’s a DTS:X signal added with some exclusive proprietary metadata. We’ll see if that means anything in a month. 😁🎉
@@ealanosborne I hope not lol. I have an RZ630. IDK maybe I won't be missing anything. I've only mixed in Atmos. Haven't looked into DTS mastering tools yet
Does that mean all Samsung TVs won’t be able to stream in imax enhanced/DTSx??
If you’re streaming from the built-in apps on the TV, that’s correct - Samsung TVs do not support DTS (yet?). But I believe in general they are able to pass through DTS audio over ARC/eARC if you had a Blu-ray player or PS5/XBOX connected directly to your TV.

My Denon can switch speaker placement from DTS:X Pro 2x height mids to a centre height and centre (VOG) for IMAX

Will the Nakamichi Dragon along with the Sony A80j OLED support DTS X audio from Disney plus ?
That’s something I’m wondering myself, since IMAX Enhanced is tied to a DTS:X signal… I’ll be testing a couple different scenarios when it launches, using both IMAX and non-IMAX AVRs 👍
Sony gave 2 different answers but Bravia Core (Sony Pictures Core) does not support DTS X on 2021 TVs, so what about Disney Plus?
How about a miracle ! Or do I have to buy NVIDIA Shield Pro?
@@fragranceandcooking Your guess is as good as mine, unfortunately. Might as well try it out anyway tomorrow just to make sure. That's what I'm gonna do even though I'll still be using an LG C9 OLED, until they send me the Bravia 7 to review eventually.

Or Roku goes full r____d and implements that ad garbage they applied for patent on

My previous comment that didn't post or disappeared was similar and I initially came back to say, "of course I say this only to find out Roku has been hacked and 576,000 people's data compromised"
I'm going back to an over-the-air antenna and buying all the physical media, these hacks are ridiculous
Ealan, its now May 18th. You've been waiting years for this update and haven't posted a review video yet??? We are waiting... lol
I can’t access it with this initial launch, that’s why. 😞 Only newer select Sony, TCL and Hisense TVs are compatible, after all. Sony is supposed to be sending me a Bravia 7 TV soon, though. 🤞
@ealanosborne dang that's too bad. I forgot it only works with select equipment right now, hopefully firmware updates will allow current devices to become compatible. We'll I'll be looking forward to the review whenever that happens haha
Big question, is it global?
As far as I know it is, but I haven’t gotten a confirmation on that yet. I would assume so since Queen Rock Montreal is going to be global streaming release, but not sure if that means the IMAX part is also global. 🤞🤞
@@ealanosborne I'm from Poland - we got D+ late and with limited catalog, albeit expanded lately, I can see eg Marvels have IMAX enhanced logo on the title.
@@ChrisCiapala Correct. The video side of IMAX has been around since November of 2021, but the audio side of IMAX is what’s finally coming to D+ on May 15th. Again, not sure if the IMAX audio will be a global release right away, though. I hope so. 🤞
I'm confused about why this is a big deal or even why they are doing this. The streaming version will still be lossy. DTS-X and Dolby Atmos have very similar capabilities. Unless they are significantly bumping the bitrate allocated to the audio, it really will just come down to how they are mixed. They may indeed mix it differently for the DTS:X track to differentiate it but nothing inherent to the codec itself. Is it mostly just marketing?
I’m just excited about Atmos not being the only option now, since it’s become so in-demand that most mixes are subpar these days. Engineers are being stretched too thin or too many audio budgets are too small or time given to finish the project is too short to put real effort into a truly dynamic mix. This potential competition will shake things up for the better, I believe. 🤘
1. There needs to be a distinction between LOSSLESS DTS:X (Master Audio) and I assume this new LOSSY Core DTS + X objects. We have Dolby TrueHD Atmos (LOSSLESS) and now Core Dolby Digital Plus Atmos (LOSSY).
2. IMAX Enhanced is a useless codec/mastering technique. Full range isn't needed for surrounds, and this is coming from someone with 9 towers, due to benefits of crossing over to a sub(s).
We already have lossless IMAX Enhanced DTS:X on some 4K blu ray discs as well. So Disney+ will use the lossy versions
My pioneer vsx-lx 504 that does iMax enhanced as does my anthem avm90.

So E, I have a Denon AVR3700 that has Imax video, will I also get this new audio codec? Great news by the way. Always on top of all the news.
Correct, the X3700H supports IMAX Enhanced video & audio. But the jury’s still out regarding if the source also has to be IMAX Enhanced certified. Do you need an IMAX certified TV from Sony or Hisense? Or would DTS suffice? We’ll know more once May 15th rolls around.

Wtf? Competition? For what? Audio tech that already has so many barriers to entry? What happened to having a standard that eliminates most of the jargon 95% of the population gives zero shits about. By having a ‘competitor’, it now means this propagates to devices which lastly mean less choices (some will have Dolby, some DTS).

@@ealanosborne they're killing me, I want iMax enhanced to take off so bad but I gots to have physical!
This roll out seems pretty pathetic. When the vast majority of the streaming devices still cant do DTS:X when it is just a codec, Dolby wins by default. Also the bitrate of DTS:X is lower at 448 vs 768. DTS:X is being cheap or greedy.
Meh, "IMAX Enhanced" is just marketing words.
Great news, but to promote Dolby Atmos for years, telling viewers there system is trash unless you have speakers the 7.2.4 or greater, plus sound dampers, special chairs etc to really experience being at the movies. I wonder why you stop promoting/buying equipment. Then I realize bro has a family and priorities has changed. I watch adult anime and USA cartoons because of the full screen effect, colors and now sound and not the cutoff top/bottom that USA movies gives. I even hear from other UA-camrs, that other countries only go full screen on their movies, Netflix and other streaming services shows that. IMAX is full screen and surround sound? Not sure about that. To experience Disney +, I have to buy the Marvel series listed or pay more for the subscription? Were the movies already in IMax enhancement? Do you know of anyone having a copy, and was able to hear the difference before hearing of Disney going to stream it?
Disney+ has supported IMAX aspect ratio since November 2021, but are finally getting the audio side of IMAX. Once it launches on May 15th, I’ll compare both the IMAX version and Atmos version to see if there is a difference. 🤞
It's very frustrating that it's just on Disney Plus, as if Disney doesn't have enough problems of their own right now.
At first, yeah. But if people start to prefer to stream the IMAX Enhanced version, I’m sure other streaming platforms will follow suit. I’m surprised Netflix wasn’t the first, since they introduced Dolby Atmos first. 🤷♂️
Disney+ sucks, Boycott it!!
How can you own a LG C9 and not know that it DOES support DTS audio!? 🫤🤔
So E, I have the Denon AVR 3700 that has Imax Enhanced, I already get the video on Disney+, will I also get the audio codec? Great news by the way. Always on top of what's happening.
Hey, my apologies, but did I hallucinate answering this question already? Could’ve sworn I did. 🤣 If not, please let me know.
@@ealanosborne Sorry, brain fart on my end. A maintenance ticket was issued for this. Thanks for getting back to me.
@@chadharwood3894 Haha, okay just checking! I was going crazy there for a minute… all good. 😄
