    I just shot some boss tom this last weekend in sw iowa. Brought a couple with for long distance pokes at some snows just to play around. We crunched a total of 228snow geese saturday between 8 guys. It was an insane hunt where all the stars aligned for a few hours.

      @@D_Boone not very long. We have a vird hitch that still works pretty well on snows, bluesn and ross geese. Canadas i have not tried it on but the light geese are just barely larger than a lg mallard. Figure 15seconds each tops.

    What's your opinion on the realistic ecological impact of lead shot? Here in Minnesota they're talking about banning lead for fishing, lead shot has been banned for waterfowl as far back as I can recall.

    • @TheNewHuntersGuide
      @TheNewHuntersGuide  Рік тому

      Ducks eat the lead shot because it looks like seeds and it can make them sick. Beyond that, I don't think there is any impact. Dirt naturally has lead in it, its just not concentrated enough to build up before the body can emit it. I'm not that kind of scientist though, so I don't weigh in to heavily on this topic because I only know so much about it.

    At 20 yards and in-with that penetration and 900 pellets - how bad will meat be filled with pellets on a breast shot?

    • @TheNewHuntersGuide
      @TheNewHuntersGuide  Рік тому +1

      At 20 yards, the pattern is a little bigger than a softball. You won't have any pellets in the meat. I took my last Gobbler with the BOSS at about 43 yards and still didn't have any in the meat.

  • @bluegatormedia

  • @user-qn6jl4li3c
    @user-qn6jl4li3c 5 місяців тому

    Interesting, but you have missed the point. The benefit of TSS is to be able to use really small shot. Really small shot means a great many more pellets than larger lead pellets that have the same foot pounds of penetration, so your pattern density is almost twice. As it only takes one pellet to do the job, pattern density is higher in priority. Please stop pushing kill shot fantasies beyond forty yards; 9 out of 10 of my gunning students can’t judge distance over 25 yards within 6 yards +-, and these folks shoot 1,500 rounds per year at clays. Folks who think that the limit is 50 instead of 40 will undoubtedly make a 60+ yard shot, irresponsible with any shotgun and legal ammo. Please stop promoting long range, it’s about the density of small fast shot.

      @@TheNewHuntersGuide I follow you, but you fail to realize that my choice of gobbler gun has two barrels with two different chokes which I load with two different shot sizes. I’ve been doing this for well over fifty years and have directly or indirectly been responsible for over three hundred dead toms including a grand slam. I’ve forgotten more than most hunters will ever learn about the sport, so I know a thing or two. I don’t worry about a pattern too tight at close range because one barrel is an open choke, and I don’t miss with small shot because my pattern is dense and basketball wide and the small shot are lethal at close range. Anything past 25 yards gets a tight choke which is basketball size at that range and a tad larger at 40. No one will ever convince me of anything that I don’t already know, but I appreciate the patterns into the ballistic gel. That’s why I watched the video. What I am curious about is the difference in muzzle velocity of lead versus TSS to see what size lead it takes to penetrate the gel to the same depth as a load of TSS #9’s at forty yards, assuming the same fps. Let’s use the Win AA standard of 1,200 fps. My guess is that a plated load of #5’s penetrates as deep as TSS #9’s at the same distance, similar fps. Even if sixes went that deep, the pattern density of TSS nines would outweigh lead 6’s. I can’t shoot TSS now because a relative talked me out of my 3” 12 ga that is rated for steel. My old guns will not be subjected to hard shot, so lead it is unless I hunt in the rain with a modern gun. Then it’s TSS 9’s and woe unto anything that gets in the way. Keep working at it, you’ll come around to the two barrel way of thinking if you want to be serious about this. And if you do you’ll choose a gun with two triggers so that you don’t brain fart the choke choice when the opportunity arises.
