Haha, yes it is. I was the FIRST if not one of the first Black Pro moto Journalist. I was often ahead if I'm James Stewart. Locally is get asked if I was Bart Lucas or Wendell Giles. I was never insulted by that cos Best raced the 250cc USGP at Unadilla and he didn't finish last. Wendell was who was beating guys like Carlo Coen and Just McMillen before he moved to Fla. and they rose to the top of their game. There have always been Black pioneers in this sport. Speaking for them, I want to THANK the Tribe for welcoming me and making me feel a part of something bigger than myself. 😎💪🏻🇺🇸💪🏾😎
Sometimes Matthes does the privateer life and the guys are on teams that transport their bikes, pitting out of a big rig, with a paid mechanic.. they may not be on a factory team but that's far from privateer. The guy racing out of his van is privateer life. This guy has a cool story and vibe, I'll be watching and rooting for Kerrison.
Wow! Rashidi Kerrison is a fantastic young man. I met him in 2003 when I made the switch to KTM. He was on the 125SX and I was on my 250SX. As per my usual I was surprised to see another Black guy and the Journalist in me started asking him a bunch of questions. My Soul felt the connection and I asked if he wanted to try my bike. He took off right into a HUUUGE double jump at Raceway Park in N.J. 😳😲😳 He had yellow Amateur plates like me but little did I know he just moved up from the mini class and wouldn't last long in the Amateur class. He and the guy he didn't want to mention, another kid I swore if I got rich I would sponsor both of these guys, Phil Nicoletti. I watched them grow up from young kids to solid men. 💪🏾😎🇺🇸😎💪🏻 Phil's story was similar on the local level. Back then I was a somebody in the MC world as a moto journalist for Cycle News, MX East, mxamerica.com, Motorcycle Racing Action and Raceway News. Young Phil used to come to the races with his dad in a rusty pickup truck with duct tape holding truck and bike together. I would tell him, "Pull the holeshot so when I send the race reports to Cycle News your name will be with the credit. If you know Phil, ask him, he remembers me. Back to Rashidi. I often ran into him at the races with his mom. And like the Stewarts, the real athleticism comes from Rashidi's mom. She's 110% percent behind Rashidi like the moms of others top riders like Millsaps, Tichenor, and Carmichael. I'm SUPER PROUD of Rashidi like he's my own son. He's doing what his heart led him to do: join a tribe called Motocrosss, and he's risen to the level of Pro which 99 percent who start this journey will never achieve. Keep on climbing Rashidi, 🙏🏿✝️🙏🏻 hugs to Mom💖 for me. Cool t shirt, let us know where we can buy them. Swap Moto, thank you for covering the guys, the Privateers, the minority riders and those who deserve a shot and could use a boost to reach their Next Level. Braaaap. I actually wrote a feature film script about the Urban Motocrosss tribe. They are US minus the ability to get to the tracks exactly as Rashidi says. I'm a racer, well WAS a racer, and looked down my nose at them until I was asked to write the script. Researching and stopping the guys I quickly found out that NONE of them stole the bikes unlike what some haters think. Here is a video of a News 1 report where I called in to voice my opinion. Rashidi, if this film ever gets made, you WILL have a role in it...I promise. ua-cam.com/video/JqxfdDu2MFk/v-deo.html And BTW, to the 5 haters who down voted this video. I was there at Southwick when some clowns like you were holding up signs with the N word and yelling it as James rode by. His mom approached them and I followed her in case it got out of hand. Thankfully, the motocrosss tribe polices it's own and they got shut down quickly. Rashidi's mom is NYPD 😲🤔, so you definately DON'T want to do anything stupid like the Southwick 6 did... Just let the man race his bike in peace. 🙏🏿🙏🏽🙏🏻💞🙌🏾🙌🏼🇺🇸🌎
It would be awesome to see Deegan, Hart, Twitch or a few people who have similar privateer stories come through and help this dude out. This guy is a great ambassador to the sport.
Anton, help him get a link set up so we can buy his shirt, that alone will sell well!! Its hilarious, good for him, and his mom for supporting what he wanted to do, I don't do Instagram or any other bs social media
Born and grew same area NYC NJ. Riding, racing. Similar get up and I can't even begin to express how difficult and the huge amount of respect I have for this man. Keep it at bro, be watching for you this moment forward.
And they got the nerve to tell us to not ride in the streets and ride at a track . If it was that easy NY , Philadelphia and Baltimore would have way too much people racing
I met this dude at thunder valley grinding out motos on a non prep day rough and rutted with no rear brake. He was genuinely friendly and happy. Mad props and praying for his success.😎🤘
Should start a page for him and hopefully some companies out there see this man just trying to live out his dream and doing what he loves. Come guys let's help this man
This young man is the real deal, not just in moto but in life ! Very well spoken. Would represent a sponsor very well. Thanks for this interview. Good luck to you Rashidi !
I don’t know the man, but this guy seems like a genuine dude who is following his dreams of competing as a pro motocross and supercross racer. Industry folks need to see this and throw some support around him. As well we all should be contacting our local shops to see if we can get him some support.
I’d donate to him if he had a link or something.. Seems like a great guy! Hope he keeps gaining ground, it’s a tough sport to keep up without sponsorship.
Good to see Michael Antonovich simply see Manhattan NY on his entry form and see a story there. Salute to him to seeing NEWS and creating the story. Rashidi, owning a T-Shirt company is good man, but creating a Clothing Brand would be great. Entrepreneurship is a great thing, so think and dream big. To be your age and still out there chasing the dream and following the circuit is motivating. Without Privateers the sport dies, the gates are empty, and there are no underdogs to root for. Privateers are the backbone of the sport. I see a few dislikes, most likely David Pingree and @Barry Mccockiner. Keep positive. Keep trying to be enlightened everyday. May your goal of giving back to the sport and supporting Privateers become a reality. Manifest it.
Rashidi good to see you are still doing it! I worked at a local shop in NY that sponsored him way back in the early 2000's. Maybe I'll see you at Unadilla this year. Jerry from Powerhouse Honda.
New Rashidi fan here. Thats also why I love Swap too cause they interview everyone not just to the top guys like alllll the other news outlets---- thanks for being real Swap.... thanks to you guys us fans get to meet the the real stories and the real heart of our sport----
This is an awesome interview , we need to see more of these stories. It is cool to see people from outside the normal moto scene catching the bug that is motocross racing.
I'm from Queens, NY and am trying to get into motorsports myself. I haven't got as far as you but u have given me the motivation to keep going. From Southside Queens to Harlem.....u got this......U definitely got a fan outta me. Can't wait to see you on the big stage.
reminds me of the way it was back in the seventies and eighties. Real privateers back then. Buying your own stuff makes you a better racer in the long run . I bet he gives it 150% just like he said. Never give up!
I`m gona say it. This guy is struggling because of the underlying racism in motorcycle sport. Especially here in the UK! For such a long time motor sport has been white dominated and its about time guys like James Stewart Jr, Antonio Lindbäck, Lewis Hamilton made noise and all ethnic minority groups of people began to attract the attention and gain the encouragement they so deserve. My little 4 year old grandson is absolutely motorbike mad and also mixed race and we have already experienced the underlying racism that infects our chosen motorsport. You have our full support Rashidi Kerrison. Give it big guns for yourself my man and the wider community.
What an incredible personality and so genuine and grateful. I couldn't stop watching him speak. I think many of us would love to help out and would love to see your journey in real time via Vblog. I think It would help us understand the behind the scenes work and struggles that goes into the day to day efforts needed to win but would also contribute to your income over time and popularity. Best of luck this weekend!
I was just like this guy back in the 90's when I raced pro. I can relate to everything he is saying. The only difference is he has a lot of social media platforms where he can be noticed. Social media platforms did not exist in the 90's.
Same here as you. In the late 80's I raced 125 and 250 pro. I carried both bikes in a 1986 Chevy S 10 truck. Single cab. I didn't have room for a passenger because I had to keep my gear in the front seat. Actually made enough money to support my racing and living for 3 years because of local pro purse in the state of Georgia. One of the greatest and fun times in my life. Stayed in alot of roach motels and slept in tents at the races. Would have loved to have had a van. Lol.
Privateers Rock way to go Rashid you represent the hard work in the heart and soul of passionate Racers like you who love Motocross I wish the best for you I hope you get a ride I hope you get more sponsors I was glad to hear your story and watch the video keep up the good work be lucky stay strong follow your passion and be happy my man. Love your attitude love your disposition love your candor glad to see a happy person love your commentary I wish you nothing but success I know words are empty but I'm in the same boat wishing you Good Vibes, good Mojo your your way with some privateer brotherly love
Holy cow. This guy is exactly what this sport is about. Grass roots. Spotlighting this guy is awesome and somehow this rider needs to get serious attention
It would be awesome if you did some more interviews on the actual privateers. They are the heart of the sport and need all the recognition they can get.
First time hearing of this dude. Already a fan. Seems like a down to earth, humble guy with an awesome, positive attitude! Will definitely be following this kat from now on! Stay healthy & good luck Rashidi!
I consider myself a serious fan of the sport and I follow ever race and pert near every current media outlet moto related. I had no idea who the hell who the hell this is, but I was pretty much an instant fan. Awesome vid guys.
Keep push'n young man. Glad to see you following your passion. I've been into moto since the 70's and have seen very few African-Americans involved (I am African-American), and I've been to races from Florida to California. AND you are from New York City.............unheard of. Glad to see you continuing to follow your dreams and wishing you much success on your journey.
Super inspiring. His Age and getting the pro license. My dream was always to go pro and get that license and it shows that age doesnt get in the way of that. Even if its not whats in store for me it gives me hope that I still have some time to make something out of it and get better.
Need to get some kind of fund raising auction going, or kickstarter page, somehow. Rashidi Kerrison is a fantastic ambassador for the sport. He is so positive and so confident he really goes to the heart of what makes Moto so amazing and so popular. Someone HAS to help this guy out. He is SO deserving!
Truly an inspiration.... Hard work and dedication plus the love he has for his craft.. Your allready a success in my book.. can't wait until this mindset becomes "trending" .. That's what life is about. Hard work and good values
Awesome video.. the guy seems really cool and had a good head on his shoulders.. Hope he gets some help after people see this video 🤘 #respect #realprivateer
This dude sounds like such a genuinely nice guy. I’d love to help him out and buy a used jersey from him to hang on my wall or something. Hell, I’d pay a lot for one of those duct tape shrouds.
I'ma call out the First Family of Black motocrosss. Ahem, Mr. Stewart Jr. you seeing the hearts of millions and in return you earned millions. Well said 👍
Yeah, helluva cool sense of humor with that shirt. I hope I see this guy in Supercross some day. I admire his passion and love for my favorite sport.

This guy needs a donation link or something so we can help him out.
