My girlfriend and I broke up back in July of 1982 but we had tickets to see Loverboy perform at an amusement park in August so we agreed we'd still go to the concert. Which was great! One of the best bands from that period, not just from this song! Then she left again and I only ever saw her once more a few years later, married, with a kid.
The song "Take Me To The Top" was the first song I heard from Loverboy, and still my favorite. It's a lot edgier/harder than most of their other radio hits.

This song was played by every rock/pop radio station every Friday for years. I was in college when it came out. The town was 20 minutes away, and we were not allowed to leave the school Monday through Thursdays, so there were many Fridays at 7pm where a group of idiots piled into a car, cranking this tune on the way to bars.

Loverboy released some really fun songs in the 80's. Try out Turn Me Loose, The Kid Is Hot Tonight, or Take Me To The Top. They are all fun songs which are cool to jam to while driving. In my opinion, Take Me To The Top shows off Mike Reno's vocal skills the best.
Other Loverboy songs to check out: Turn Me Loose, Hot Girls In Love, Lovin' Every Minute Of It, and The Kid Is Hot Tonight. All good songs. And the lead singer had duet with Ann Wilson of Heart called Almost Paradise from the Footloose Soundtrack.

The guitar and bass tone in this always caught my ear. They both were fairly new types of tones compared to what was on the radio. It got me when I was a kid.
We used to jump in my friends car with this "cassette" cranked up while we drove around the neighborhood! The entire album is awesome, and so is Mike Reno's voice!
Another one of the million iconic songs that featured in Scrubs. This is the song that The Todd uses for his audition to the janitor's air band, immediately before Turk does his legendary improvised dance to Poison by Bell Biv DeVoe(the dance that eventually became the Fortnite dance)
Those of us in college in mid to late seventies found the intensity of the working-keeping-up-with-the-Jones’s working world of the 80’s a shock to the system. This song was a nose thumb to that!!😄
Saw them live at college in '81. They were opening for Journey on their main tour and didn't have sound equipment of their own on the road, so they used what was on the trucks. Imaging pro arena sized stacks on stage inside a small state school gym. Loudest concert ever.
Now listen to "When it's over" and "Loving every minute of it". So happy I got to see them at the San Francisco Cow Palace in the 80's, when they were huge, such an excellent show! Really good music
Back in the late 90s/early 2000s, local radio stations would usually play this song at 5 PM on Fridays. Sure got me pumped in my early 20s...punching out and ready for the weekend!
You guys have to check out Chris Farley & Patrick Swayze dancing in a sketch on Saturday Night Live. They dance to this song in an audition to become Chippendales Exotic Dancers. I almost died hyperventilating the first time that I saw the sketch. Classic!!!
Cool. Canadian rockers Loverboy. Their big banger is called Turn Me Loose. It boast one of the greatest screams in rock vocal history. Totally worth a boo!
Loverboy's lead singer Mike Reno is an exceptional vocalist. In 1984 he did a duet with Ann Wilson from Heart. The song was called Almost Paradise and it was a smash hit. Ann would be an intimidating partner for a duet for most singers, but he held his own. If I remember correctly, they had some other big name scheduled to sing the male portion of this song and it fell through so Mike was literally called in as a replacement at the last second. With hardly any lead notice, he came in and killed it.
@@bodowen I went back and watched the whole interview I had seen on the "Professor of Rock" UA-cam channel. I thought they were both on the same page on how Mike was a last second replacement, but you're right, Mike did say he was given option to pick his duet partner and he picked Ann. In a separate interview, Ann had a completely different story that she was told she had her pick of duet partners and Mike was not on her original list of picks. Odd. Still amazing they recorded it in 1 take.
Whoa!!! They went on EARLY!! Getting the weekend Started, hahaha!! This is one of those songs that. no matter what you usually like, crosses boundaries and is loved!! I'd recommend hearing this on a Friday afternoon, right before any drinking starts; it does grow on you the more you hear it. An A for me!
These boys are still playing together, saw them a few years ago. Not bad 40 years on. "Turn Me Loose" and "Lovin' Every Minute of" It is where you have to go next.
First album I ever bought! From Columbia House mail order service at age 13, lol. Forgot about this song, What a blast from the past! The 80's cheese factor is equal to "Danger Zone" imo.
The best impending weekend song is “I can feel a good one coming on” by Blackberry Smoke. Also good is “Here comes the weekend” by Moody Blues. And “Lovin every minute of it” by Loverboy.
Love the early 80 and still own this album. If you're dipping into the Canadian sauce, check out "Action" by Streetheart. Insane vocals by Kenny Shields for sure. It's interesting that this particular song came out in 1978 and Loverboy's "Turn Me Loose" in 1980. You'll definitely know where Loverboy got the inspiration for it, but it's a great song in it's own right. Mike Reno can really belt a tune. Guitarist Paul Dean played with Streetheart before forming Loverboy with Mike Reno, so there is that connection.
One of my fav songs in high school! One of my best friends bought the cassette before I did, and she called me on the phone and when I answered, she hit play on her boom box and this song played in my ear! I was totally jealous that she had the cassette already! Thanks for making my day great ~ love you guys! 💕
You have to know that our cars were like our cell phones. That is where we listened to alot of music! Most of my memories of songs are in a car or at the pool we went too.
There was a DJ in Dallas that would often play this during Friday drive time. He had a large listening audience. You could see many cars switch their headlights off and on in time with the song as it played. Great review

The Todd trying out for the air band. 😂
You wanna piece of my heart / You better start from the start
Words of wisdom my wife and I tell each other to this day.
Those of us in college in mid to late seventies found the intensity of the working-keeping-up-with-the-Jones’s working world of the 80’s a shock to the system. This song was a nose thumb to that!!😄
I always loved the galloping guitar rift in the bridge, "chuckadum-chuckadum-chuckadum-dah-dah-dah-dah"
Had the pleasure of seeing Loverboy at “Six Flags New Orleans” in the early 2000’s. I was 12 years old and they were awesome!
Saw them live at college in '81. They were opening for Journey on their main tour and didn't have sound equipment of their own on the road, so they used what was on the trucks. Imaging pro arena sized stacks on stage inside a small state school gym. Loudest concert ever.
Turn Me Loose is the definitive Loverboy song. Great bass and tasty guitar
This song was hit hard every Friday during the evening drive slot on FM radio. They mercilessly played it without fail.
Seen Loverboy twice in concert. Mike Reno has exceptional vocals. “Turn Me Loose” is one of my favorites but the whole album is great.
Friday Summer song. Hot fun in the summertime.
Classic!!!
That's the first thing that I pictured in my head....lol....great skit on SNL!!!
Dangerous, Loving Every Minute Of It, Turn Me Loose, and Heaven In Your Eyes (a duet with Ann Wilson) are with this song my favorite Loverboy tracks.
Acoording to Reno, he was the ringer and SHE was one of several considered to accompany him.
Canadian Band. Opened for ZZ Top at the Puyallup Wa State Fair in the 90s. My wife and i saw them there, fun Band and no disappointments.
Plus, THE KID IS HOT TONIGHT, was also on the same album, and was released first in my area. It was a banger.
Immortalized by Patrick Swayze and Chris Farley on SNL back in the day!
Lol- When I was a kid in West Palm Beach in the 80s the radio would play this every Friday afternoon , great reaction guys!
This was in every single music library at every frat party this '81 sorority girl went to!
I remember a DJ in AZ playing this every Friday morning to start his morning show for years.
An old radio favorite, right up your alley.
These boys are still playing together, saw them a few years ago. Not bad 40 years on. "Turn Me Loose" and "Lovin' Every Minute of" It is where you have to go next.
A friend once described Lover Boy as Junior High; both when they were popular as well as who they appealed to.
Whenever the Loverboy tour came into town it was always a reliable and fun show. Good band.
Every single Friday at 5pm, just after a loud work whistle, this song would play on countless radio stations to set us on the weekend course.
First album I ever bought! From Columbia House mail order service at age 13, lol. Forgot about this song, What a blast from the past!
The 80's cheese factor is equal to "Danger Zone" imo.
Lol wow! Flashback to high school! Loverboy is from my province and I remember them playing school dances before they got big.
Andy: I agree with you - that galloping rhythm guitar sound really hits the mark.
One of my fav songs in high school! One of my best friends bought the cassette before I did, and she called me on the phone and when I answered, she hit play on her boom box and this song played in my ear! I was totally jealous that she had the cassette already! Thanks for making my day great ~ love you guys! 💕
Stripper bar favorite from the early 80s.
A major flashback. We used to play this one in my post-high school bar band.
OMGosh....I didn't know you haven't heard Loverboy! More more more.... you'll be glad you did!
Great song, great energy, 80’s classic production
Another great one by Loverboy is When It's Over. At the end of Wet Hot American Summer, when that song drops, it's like Damn. Straight fire
You have to know that our cars were like our cell phones. That is where we listened to alot of music! Most of my memories of songs are in a car or at the pool we went too.
In high school, this was Fridays's song while "Girls Just Want to Have Fund" was for Saturdays!
There was a DJ in Dallas that would often play this during Friday drive time. He had a large listening audience. You could see many cars switch their headlights off and on in time with the song as it played. Great review
Was that John Dillon?
