What an amazing pen - love the tributes to Bond's Walther PPK handgun of choice all over it. Now all Montegrappa have to do is to issue a cigarette case, cufflink and lighter so that you can go the whole "Man With The Golden Gun" assembly experience with it! 😆
@@GuitARPlayr100 NICE! I just looked it up and saw Figboot's review on this pen which mentioned and showed that special edition one. Those bullet ink cartridges are awesome!
Very cool pen - I’m sure it will be a favorite for you. A bit expensive for a non-grail type pen but looks to be well thought out. Have fun with it and enjoy your vacation.
I honestly envy you 😅 This and the most recent "The Batman" pen are two of the most astonishing pens I've ever seen, I still think the Caran d'Ache Caelograph is the most astounding design ever but these two come close. But I wonder why Montegrappa fitted a "plain gold" uncoated nib, maybe part of the homage too but not so clear? 🤔
Some of the special edition Montegrappa pens make my eyes roll, since they are so over the top. This one, however, really captures the essence of Bond. Everything about it seems smooth, clever and like you'd be driving an Aston Martin, if this was your EDC. It seems very "British" classic... high quality without excess bling. Enjoy!!
I was like so ready to safe up for it... then suddenly 1295 US and I knew this is a pen I probably never can afford with good consciousness, even though it looks absolutely amazing
Hi DB!: That has to be about the coolest pen ever! I had seen some pictures online and the Walther design cues, particularly on the cap were immediately apparent. (Having fired a Walther PPK/S numerous times.) Unfortunately will never be able to own one of these cool pens. I believe you can still buy a PPK/S for less than the pen costs(!) The stub nibs are the BEST! I don't know why, but when I write with my 1.1 stub I just start smiling! Enjoy that pen DB!!
I have on order my 4th Montegrappa. I am glad to see the brand get more videos, though I think their non licensed versions should get a bit more exposure. Their quality makes them worth the price but it’s a big thing for a lot of people to get over. They get balance and weight on the mark for me.
When it comes to grail pens the Exta Otto is something I think more people should look at. I think as they do more resin instead of celluloid and move away from sterling silver sections it may start being more comparable to other #8 nib pens in price that will bring it to more people’s grail lists.
I’m interested to see if you use calipers on the nib if the tipping width is 1.1. I think some companies measure the tipping and others to the line width.
Montegrappa pens are my absolute favourites alongside Omas/Scribo when it comes to handwriting. Not too much into Special Editions or dare I say it James Bond, but this pen is stunning. Love the 1.1 stub. I have two Montegrappa stubs both wonderful to write with. Great video. Happy New Year. D
Bud. DoodleBud. James Bond used Montblanc fountain pens in the movies that were designed by Q. Where is the Vesper Martini to go along with your review? Thank you for your video presentation. Take care and have a happy New Year.
Might be the camera angle or lighting, but is the clip straight? Seems a bit off - but then of all people you'd be the one to notice :) Too costly for me, but still fun to watch. Happy 2024. PS: My final pen of the year arrives today from Amazon, a $3.49 Kaco SKY II pen with 2 cartridges and a converter :) A premium plastic fountain pen (as per their description :)
that is hands down one of the best finials ever! We can easily see the grooves on the inside and anyone who has seen a Bond film can recognize it. Did the pen not come with some kind of literature explaining everything? That's a bit odd. Not sure why they didn't use ruthenium coating to completely stealth out the pen. Cool nonetheless, because anything Bond is cool.
I saw it this past year at the Dallas Pen show, some pens don't impress me. I would rather have a Namiki for a cool pen. Of course that would be a "Leave it at Home Pen" Both of these pens are out of my reach if I want to keep a roof over my head LOL!!!
As per usual, I really enjoy your in-depth analysis. What do you feel about this having fairly standard-looking laser engraved Jowo nib? It is an expensive SE. Perhaps the volumes didn't allow for a custom nib stamp to be made, which is a shame. The feed does look ebonite. Happy new year!
I'd say that's a nice recognition of your YT channel, Montegrappa sending you a pen, congratulations. The FC pure black E-motion is 'in my sights' for 2024. Any idea if FC has a bigger nib for that model? Because it looks decidedly small in the comparison. Anyway, happy New Year to you and yours.
Quite nice. Like you, it reminded me of the Faber-Castell (well, my first thought was my beloved first HongDian - 6013 Black Army General. It has *ahem* certain points of similarity with the e-Motion 😉)
Thanks for doing this video, fascinating! This is one theme pen that inspires real interest, it looks very well done. It's good to see that the pen is much better than the pistol it models. Starting with reliability, they don't work with 100% success except in the movies. It's a nice, compact size but is heavy enough to let you know it's milled from a solid block of steel. You also have to hold it just right or it'll draw blood on the web of your hand when the slide cycles. Great, now the villain has an easy trail to follow... 😂 Then there's the caliber itself, which falls into the category of "I've never needed more." In the end, it falls into two categories: 1. Don't trust it to save your life, and 2. Must have one just because it's cool and historically relevant! Your Montegrappa pen suffers none of those issues, which is refreshing. Too bad it's just after the Christmas spending season and the beginning of dues and subscription seasons.
Actual 007 collectible I would like to own! Even as a serious James Bond afficionado, I don't collect a lot of 007 stuff (besides movies and books, obviously) but this one is seriously really cool. Price is high but there is a lot of much less cool and useful James Bond collectibles for that kind of money. I would rather get this than replica of the golden gun, for example.
Montegrappa fountain pens are all ebonite feeds I belive. Nit my style FP but it looks great, well built, and great fun for the right people. Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful fountain pen. However, there is one thing I don't like about the design, which is the nib section that occurs in most pens. I don't like the abrupt ending followed by a large, gold nib that is out of balance with the body. I would prefer a cleaner design like that of the Lamy Safari, with a short, matte nib perfectly aligned with the overall lines of the body.
1. Do you think that Chou Kuro is worth the highly inflated price? I think it is, though just barely. It's the darkest and shiniest. 2. 0.8 is pretty far off from 1.1 (27 friggin %). 3. For a long time, I was baffled by the fact that anyone wanted a themed fountain pen. Now I assume they just haven't come up with a theme that rings my particular bell. I wonder what that would be...

Not true. I own very many Montegrappa pens. They once used Bock steel and gold nibs. Then they made a switch to mainly Jowo a few years ago. Their Jowo steel nib pens all have the standard Jowo nib unit and plastic feeds. For the gold nib models, the ebonite feed is more common.
