    In my opinion, of the numerous bonsai’s experts and channels I’ve watched, you are the best in explaining and show your thought process in great detail. I am a week into my bonsai journey, and your videos really helped. Thank you Peter.

      Look at Ryan Neil's BSOP series on Bonsai Mirai. You won't find more detail than that.
      Peter is great at explaining to beginners and laypeople, and more accessible than Ryan Neil. Peter also has a way of making bonsai less intimidating.

    Often one persons rubbish is another persons treasure and in this case that is true. This gentleman retrieved one persons rubbish and created a lovely bonsai with lots of potential. Well done for saving this tree 🌲👩🏻‍🌾

    The first tree turned out great! What a great idea to split the branch! It will be a beautiful bonsai. And, the maple again turned out fantastic. What a lucky man to have Sir Peter help him. And yes, I can add the Sir to his name cause he should be knighted!!!

    You are just fascinating. I watch all your videos to educate myself. My husband had a stroke last year so I am trying to learn something new all the time. I try to get him interested in gardening but he just says hes not talking to my plants..😁 My first attempt at bonsai is one of my avocado seedlings...🤞

    That branch splitting was neat, but the maple tree had me very excited when you pulled it out. That will be a beautiful bonsai in a few years.

    Peter Great video , I like the branch splitting, and how you reduced the tree and the acer after Air layering will be very nice. Maybe on my next visit I will take the option to attend a workshop.

    I'm going to steal that branch splitting idea, for a spruce I have, which has a main branch that's too thick.

    Very enjoyable to watch. Peter by any chance could you do a video along the lines of preparing a tree for a bonsai show, I'm sure many others would be keen to see the level of effort required just for one show ready specimen. Even just explaining the rules may help most of us bonsai enthusiasts understand the reasoning behind the judging.
    Either way your videos often make my day!

    If that spruce tree was mine I would shape it like a wind swept style. I would keep all of the branches to the right side and cut the ones growing to the left side

    That was really a neat trick with the branch splitting. I wish I've known this trick to some of my own trees.
    My question is how does it fair with twisting after preforming this?

    It's spring here in N.Y and my maple trees have leaves on them for about 3 weeks now. At night it still drops down to about 50 degrees. Is it ok to start air layering my maples trees now? Thank u Peter!

    Air layering- the top will be on it’s own rootstock. Won’t that be a problem? I assume they used a dwarfing rootstock on the original tree?

    • @peterchan3100
      @peterchan3100 2 роки тому

      A strong variety for root stock gives a much stronger tree. But air layers are often as good.

    What date was this maple airlayered ? I am picking up a Green Japanese Maple from a friend this afternoon (May 4th). I plan to trim to a dome and see beech or 2 I hope to airlayer.
    If I can not get spagnamoss what else can i use ?

      You can try using a loam based compost to airlayer - not as good but might work.

      I've heard coco coir is a pretty good substitute that holds moisture well but I've only ever used sphagnum for my Maple air layering. I'm also in NY so if you can get sphagnum moss online thats dried and just soak it in water overnight thats what I do.

    can we use dry sphagnum moss for air layering?

    • @peterchan3100
      @peterchan3100 2 роки тому +2

      You need to wet it or better still, wet it for days or weeks to let the moss grow again.
