    Fun fact: If you sculpt in multiple views while animation playback (spacebar) is playing, all viewports update in realtime even before you commit a sculpt / brush stroke. Otherwise you won't see the other views update until after you have committed.

    I know it's an ad, but thank you! I'm so happy this showed up in my feed, or I never would have learned about it. Searching for vr sculpting just turns up ancient outdated articles. I feel like the tools have probably come really far in the last two years, and there's just no way to find out. Supposedly there's even Blender VR sculpting, but I can't find any info about it except for a defunct project for an ancient version.

    Really glad to see sculpters at your tier finally catch onto VR and sculpting! It's been decent since medium and it's only gotten more refined. The crazy thing is that over time mouse and keyboard start to feel archaic as peripherals when you get reallllllllllllllllly familiar with these tools. You just gotta learn what these softwares let you do and what they can't do (which is a lot), but when you finally see it you can't go back. There is a really huge discussion to be had and considering how big you are Danny I'm glad to see you getting the ball rolling on these pipelines.

    I utilized this tool to craft a lampshade tailored for my office space. Leveraging mixed reality, I seamlessly overlaid the design onto the physical environment, envisioning its appearance within my workspace. Subsequently, I transferred the model to my slicing software and proceeded to 3D print it.

    I just bit the bullet and got a VR headset because of this video and showing off the sculpting program. I have plans to do a comic and rather than all hand drawn (because the comic is way to big to draw it) i plan on sculpting characters, turni g them into 3d avatars then posing them out with eachother for the comic images. Time to sculpt like 180 characters. And 20 years of age for 90 or so of them

    I tried it, and the dealbreaker for me is the lack of any form of feedback.
    You can tell when you touch your tablet, you can tell when you touch real clay, but when sculpting in VR you have 0 way of telling where you are in relation to the mesh without looking directly at your hands.
    It may seem like a small thing but it slows you down by by few times. But i really love the idea, if the aps were better i would probably swallow the extra time to sculpt in return for depth perception but as it is i dropped it on the first professional project i was doing as i wasnt doing enough progress.
    Its an interesting alternative, but no replacement for using a tablet. Also man, even quest 3 is extremely uncomfortable for longer than few hours on both your eyes and your face. Maybe in the future when they get really small it will become a thing for modeling.

      When using VR for long time you can estimate pretty accurate where your hands are. Some even can have ghost touch feeling when they touch something in VR (Basically you feel what you see).
      Also in shapelab that brush falloff is from radius so you can start moving stuff before touching model.
      I have been using VR from 2016 and I'm jealous of those who have ghost touch.

      @@googleslocik Nah, it's a real phenomenon. Not everyone feels it the same, some can train to develop it over time, some can't feel it at all; but some people got it so intensely real that in social apps and such they gotta worry about griefers sexually molesting them (many such apps actually got things like proximity filters/shields to avoid that), it can actually cause some level of psychological harm (I can't really speak of how serious that harm really is because I'm not a trained psychologist, and for me, having VR things go thru my body at most feels like a sorta warm electric feeling, so for me such experiences would be like if someone shone a warm spotlight with maybe some fluctuations of static electricity (sorta like if you have a hairy arm and bring it near an OLD CRT and switch it on or off), and if anything went into any "nono" places for me it would just be a source of laughter).
      If you're interested in learning more the VR-centric youtuber Phia has done a couple episodes of her "The VR Show" about the topic (I don't feel like looking up her exact channel name, but this should be enough info for a search, "Phia", "VR Show", "Phantom Touch"; something like that should get you there.

    I don't really like dynamic topology, either, however, it IS really good for one thing and that's maintaining performance when you're hitting a limit to what your computer can handle. Even in Zbrush which can handle a lot of resolution, I do eventually hit a wall with polycount. Dynamesh allows me to paint a region of higher resolution where I need it and lower resolution where I don't. Sometimes, I'll turn it on just to do this kinda thing and then turn it off after I'm satisfied with the resolution.

    The far best option is Oculus "Medium" (free use)
    Sadly Adobe bought it and it stopped from developing.
    Now Adobe is publishing it under a different name (can't remember) with some more options but very pricy.
    But in medium you have Subdivision levels.
    And yes, it is very funny to work in VR.
    But if you get to a very detailed level...it kinda sucks and you have to return to Blender eg thinking "So sad, but it's too shaky for that"
    You simply cannot rest your palms - which is good for blockouts, but bad for precision...

What I'm seeing here with your workflow, retopo your sculpts in Blender then importing them back into Shapelab, this is not possible in Medium, it would destroy the topology and transform it all into triangles, so this is kind of the missing link for me right now, thanks for convincing me to make the switch!

    I would trade both my feet to be able to sculpt like that with my hands. sure do wish I had even a little bit of artistic talent.

    I actually don't like to move the model I like to move around the model. Another thing is that I don't like how it's so easy to reverse which makes it easy to make a mistake you don't notice.

    I like shapelab but I find the closer I bring the model to me the blurrier it is, just cuz that’s how vr works and it makes it tricky to sculpt fine details

    • @SeageSpeaks
      @SeageSpeaks 7 місяців тому +1

      Do you wear glasses irl? You might need to get lenses or try the opposite and not wear glasses in VR. My stuff never gets blurrier the closer it gets.

    • @Elgsdyr
      @Elgsdyr 7 місяців тому +1

      I can't speak for this program specifically, but in general it's preferred to get your VR stuff on Steam in case you switch to a non-Meta headset at some point. Anything in the Meta PC store only works on the Meta headsets. You /can/ access with a different headset with something like Revive, but it's a workaround that doesn't always work perfectly according to some people.

    • @ChrisCypher

      A modeler is the least case for motion sickness because there's no artificial movement at all. It'd be far more sickening watching a video than experiencing it.
