    Nice job! Great video. I do a lot of digging too, and can't sleep when it rains overnight during project like this.

    • @srmcontracting
      @srmcontracting  2 роки тому +20

      Like most things it depends on your region, job site access, etc. The paper work alone was around 15k (this was permitting, engineering, design, geo testing, and all the environmental paper work). Labor and materials was around 35k.

    Very impressive project guys, especially given the proximity of the creek. Did you or the homeowner run into any issues or complaints from the local D.E.C. office due to the waterway?

    I would think you would want some sort of glass type fence on the top to keep a toddler from going over, also, some steps down to the creek with a gate at the top.

    Nice work! Found your channel through the transmission service you did. Looks like we do similar UA-cam videos based on this one. Did a video on my first Redi-Rock wall and have 3 more on the schedule. Will subscribe and check out more of your videos.

    Good job leveling the concrete footing. I expected it to give you a hard time leveling the first course of block. Challenging project, but you got it done.

    Pouring a concrete footer is definitely the way to go on these, I’m currently doing a wall with a gravel footer. It’s very easy to get that first row off grade.

      use a 12ft concrete screed to level the gravel it works wonders (along with a smooth equipment operator)

    • @srmcontracting

      I'm sure you could, you definitely want to check with an engineer for a wall like that. There about $150 a block. Thanks for watching

    What do these blocks cost, and how do you go about finding an engineer for something like this?

    • @srmcontracting
      @srmcontracting  Рік тому +3

      They very based on size but in the $150-200 range. Google retaining wall engineer or grading engineer. Call a few places though, their prices can vary dramatically.

    You suppose to use a Filter Fabric such as Mirafi 140N or 180N but what i see is a 6mil Vapor barrier which does not allowed the water to go through.

    Why the concrete footing ? Did the engineers call for it?

    • @srmcontracting
      @srmcontracting  2 роки тому +2

      Yes, they didn't like the soil conditions so they wanted the concrete footer to be safe.

    I'm in West Marin County in the San Francisco Bay area, and a friend of mine tried to reinforce the creek bank in his backyard, and people literally walk up the creek and rat out anyone who tries to impede the natural erosion of the creek. It's a small creek that almost dries out in the summer, but It does have some fish. Steelhead or salmon have come up that far as well. I just think these people are trying to gain unearned power over people so they can feel important for a few seconds

      Working on waterways is always a challenge. We had to file a bunch of permits and paper work for this one.

    Where are the tie backs? Can’t believe your engineer didn’t require them. Great looking wall.

    • @jjr897
      @jjr897 Рік тому

      Usually retaining wall block that big do not require tiebacks. The sheer weight of them alone, and the indentations in each block is what locks those in. Smaller retaining wall block require Geo grid as they don’t have the weight to hold them in place.

    I think more people would like to have this product if they could ever get a hold of someone who can quote it. I’m having the hardest time finding someone.

    • @srmcontracting
      @srmcontracting  2 роки тому +1

      The only thing I can recommend is trying to find someone during the winter months when contractors are generally slower. Even if it can't be completed in the winter they can still set a date for the coming spring. Best of luck with your project!

    I’m sure you will never see this, but if you do…HELP ! Who do I call to get this done in my yard?! What kind of company? I have a huge erosion issue and the county won’t do anything to help.

    • @srmcontracting
      @srmcontracting  2 роки тому +1

      Hello, call some local excavation companies and ask if the build retaining walls. Get more then one opinion and have the wall designed by an engineer. Make sure permits are pulled and inspections are done. Best of luck with your project!
