It's very fascinating how some languages can change a very lot in just few 100s of years, while some other languages will see a text from the 1200 just as if it were a dialect from the countryside.

@@naiadelacrimosa5234 I mean, more formal and more antiquated may very well be the same thing, depending on language? I don't know ancient Italian, but that's how it works for some other European languages, where the phrases and words of more formal conversations are largely the same as in the past (though spelling is very different now or even uses a different system, so reading old texts is a hassle) and only casual speech has changed a lot.

Here in Italy, modern language was born in 1840 through the famous author Alessandro Manzoni and his "I promessi sposi". National unity dates back in 1861, so speaking and writing were different depending on the region. They used dialects. Anyway the common basis was Latin. 😊

In English, I think Shakespearean language is similar, which was around the early 1600's - so 400 years ago. (Shakespeare's English was during the Elizabethan era, and the era's language is called "Early Modern English" - not quite Middle English.) Though antiquated, I use Shakespearean language as a joke often, around friends. Like, I can easily imagine myself saying something like: "Tonight I dine in the company of friends. Therefore shall I leave the house. Worry thee not." as a bit of a joke.
I'm curious if others do Samurai Japanese (or old dialogue from other languages) as a way of joking around. I think I picked up the habit from reading a lot of fantasy and old books.

I don't know why but I really love the Samurai Japanese, sometimes I feel the dialect of the north sounds so much like it without "de gozaru", Aomori and... You know, although I don't think they are the same at all😂, well I guess every language has it own old version, in Arabic, I guess it won't be a big problem to understand an old person from 1400 years, our religion links generations together, yes we can't understand every single word but we can get the whole meaning, so for us it's gonna be vice versa: can the elders understand us?

This was a really interesting video, i have an answer for the question you asked that maybe will help, but it is limited to my people, I'm not sure about others, In my Church, which is a Tridentine Catholic church, we still use Ecclesiastical Latin to read The Bible, for spoken mass etc. So we use the same words as the Christians 2000 years ago. The accent may be poor depending on the lay person, but the clergy speak with almost the same accent even as back then (at least where i attend mass.). To hear the difference you just need to listen to the romance languages, which are all derived from Latin. Surprisingly in Italy there are some people that don't know Latin, but since Italian is a direct descendant will still have at least some idea of what you are saying if you speak Latin to them.
