Great setup. DJing became my main thing over the years, but I have a similar setup that I’ve had for a long time. Ensoniq ASR-X connected to a Novation SL mkii MIDI keyboard. RME MADIface Pro audio interface using 1 output to a Mixcube, next output to the ASR-X for sampling. Output 3/4 for headphones. Input 3/4 for ASR-X. I’ll add the Ferrofish Pulse 16 to then connect an Akai S3000XL in the near future. DAWS I use are Ableton and I’m starting to check out Reaper. Keep up the good work
That’s dope; I want to learn DJ’ing. The legendary ASR-X; haven’t had a chance to see one in person. Also love the look and vibe of the S3000XL. Cheers and thanks for rocking with me! 💯❤️🔥🫡
@@freeplaysamples when I was living in NYC I used to teach at Dubspot (now closed) when I wasn’t touring with the artist I was djing for. I’m originally from London. The ASR-X, while it can be tricky, is a great device. The Daydream Sound on UA-cam has a lot of tips on old school samplers. Check him out of you haven’t already
Besides replacing a broken key I haven’t had to do much maintenance on it. My screen is starting to show signs of forthcoming issues but, there’s a guy that started making them so not too worried about it. They use to be difficult to repair and many people abandoned ASR’s because of this issue. Short answer: I fix things as they come up or become a problem. Other than that I create and try not to let the gear get in the way. If it does; I’ll just use a daw to get my ideas out. 🙏🏽
Glad you cookin again! I still ain’t made the jump to asr fully solo but using w 2k xl slaved again😂 was able to find a MINT oex6sr for 300 though. Couldn’t believe it. Literally not a scratch on her. I was able to figure out the scsi shit. I could get you through the TLDR shit pretty quick, I get just dumping it, but having the recall to re do is worth imo. I’ll trade you for some sequence and asr only tricks! Also if you want a cheap but strong quality setup to get 16 in and out, rme digiface usb, Ferrofish 16. You can import and get the whole thing less then 1200 down the line. Then you get total mix power back too.
Another vote for the ferrofish; I was very close to buying one before I sold my RME and do miss total mix. Really considering it when I get into a more stable studio situation. I may have to take you up on that offer soon my bro when things calm down a bit. Thanks for your continued support🙏🏽💯❤️🔥🫡
Kanye one of the producers out of the names you mentioned that still uses the asr-10. He no longer uses the MPC 2k xl instead uses MPC live MPC X more modern equipment especially on the making of the vultures albums
@@UrbanJournal But to be honest he made some of his best music using a 2000xl so I guess if it’s not broken don’t fix it. I’d say in 2017 and 2018 he made the switch to more modern MPC’s
Link any videos you have of Ye on the modern MPC. I remember watching a Mike Dean interview talking about how they would have drum hell week and they would each have different MPCs and rework drum parts. I definitely like doing drums and chopping on the 2kXL just don’t have much room for it in my setup rn. Also Travis, Metro still rocking the 2kXL heavy in recent years. Jermaine Dupri and Sonny Digital killing it on the modern MPCs as well. Thanks for rocking with me and the channel 💯🤞🏽❤️🔥
I have been eyeing a live 2 retro or one retro since it reminds me of my 2kXL and see a lot of producers I respect using the modern MPCs. I have not used or looked into them though; now that they announced 3 I think I may wait until they drop a new unit or at least iron out the bugs it may have and add software support. I’m not really an early adopter on gear. I like getting things that are going to work without interruptions if possible. Thanks for checking the channel. 🙏🏽
@@musicproduction5438 if you understand how it works and what it’s doing then use it. great video, but i wanted to know, let's say you have your 8 tracks from the asr-10, and if you record one track at a time from the asr-10, how do you go about aligning it with the rest of the remainder 7 tracks in protools so it plays all together?
ProTools has a feature called “tab to transient”; you press tab button on an audio clip and it will automatically bring your cursor to the transient; I’ll hit cmd+e to cut the clip and then I line everything up from there. Hope this makes sense if not, I can include the process in another future video. Thanks for rocking with me 💯🫡
@@freeplaysamples man that would be great if you could do a short video about the process about tracking and aligning all tracks together! btw, by doing the "tab to transient" does the beats feels the same, like the swing and the feel or do you find it's a little bit different in the asr10 vs protools
@@redspiderz6037 I’ll do a video soon breaking down the process of tracking into pro tools. It doesn’t change the feel at all. A transient is a transient; it’s when the sound starts. Even when I track artist I make sure the instrumentals I import start exactly on the transient in pro tools to make it possible to “fly over” hooks or copy information to other sections and not go off timing. I’ll elaborate this further in the video but, my short answer is no.
I have the Zulu scsi mini also which I use to boot the asr, do you use the free or the full version of translator to load files, how you convert wav files on pc/Mac to asr10?
I have Zulu scsi but have to be honest; I don’t use it. The file structure of the ASR is confusing to me and I just transfer my work to the DAW as soon as I feel like it’s a good idea I want to continue to build on. The Facebook Ensoniq forum is a good place to find information/someone better versed with Zulu scsi, translator and file management on the ASR. Peace! 🫡💯🙏🏽

Clean setup i heard lots of good things bout those monitorz. Dope vid and bro ur a natural on the mic

The 1073 is the eq , but whats the tube tech ?
