This video came just in the nick of time! Had a dead 12v battery, I think due to high outdoor temp. I tried 2 hardware stores to buy the trim tool and the nut driver with no luck; even my mechanic didn't have them (his tools weren't magnetized). I followed your links (including the jump starter), bought everything on Amazon -- thank goodness for next day delivery! -- then followed your instructions step-by-step and am back on the road! THANK YOU.
This was very helpful. Thank you very much. We anticipate that for many of us though the 12V will be run completely dead in the next weeks and months. It would be really great if you could also soon do a video on how to completely exchange the 12V battery. Which kind of batteries shall we buy and how to recalibrate windows, etc.
Thanks, I'll cover that in a future video. Unfortunately, we can't calibrate the windows without the FAST tool. So try to avoid disconnecting the 12V battery.
Thank you Matt - another super useful video. I had to jump start my FOE - but thanks to YOU - I was all prepared! I also have the monitor and tender to give me feedback. Unfortunately my battery is toast! It won't hold a charge anymore - so I just drive the car in circles (from my house to house) so that I can keep it alive with the tender. SOOO, looking forward to that video of yours that will let me know how to swap that 12v battery - maybe with a higher quality one!? Thanks again for all your instructional videos and your more fun videos - I have to say that it has transformed my experience owning a Fisker from something nightmarish to something (almost) kind of fun - as in, what is the next little project that Matt has in store for us! Keep it up!🙌🙏
Great Video. Thanks. Lost my service panel at the car wash and all clips was lost . Needed replace with double sided tape ( since 15.000km it holds in position). Any idea how to replace new clips and which ones?
I think we can find a secure way to extend the positive side to outside of the car, so we don't have to open the hood. I will look into this soon. I think Tesla has this option.
Yes, you could do something like I did for the battery tender video. Either have the lead go out the hood near the windshield or through the opening for the tow eye.
So my scenario is that the 12 V battery is dead, I jumpstarted it, and realised the HV battery still had 70% charge. I drove for 20 minutes, stopped, got out of the car, closed it and the 12 V battery was dead again immediately. During the drive I noted that 2.1 update took place, possibly causing the drain of the 12V battery? But then how is it possible that the HV battery is not supporting it and that it's down again? I never had problem with the battery until now. I appreciate you giving me your opinion! thank you for your work
So you're saying the 2.1 update caused the 12V battery to die. During the update, the HV pack will not charge the 12V battery. That's unfortunately has been happening. Normally, while driving, the HV pack will charge the 12V. However, if the 12V battery is too far gone and doesn't hold that charge, it most likely needs to be replaced.
just a last follow up, maybe someone reads it later, so after charging the 12V battery for 5 hours with a high performance (20 amp) professional battery tender, it was good to go again. No battery replacement necessary, probably the software upgrade totally emptied it.
Here are the two 12V batteries that are recommended: Super Start Platinum 140RPLT 12V AGM battery www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c/platinum/super-start-platinum-agm-battery-group-size-140r/ssbq/140rplt DieHard H4-XEV shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/diehard-ev-battery-h4-group-size-570-cca-710-ca-80-minute-reserve-capacity-h4-xev/50001093-P
12V battery issues are fairly common with EVs. It's due to the fact that EVs run them hard. They need to be always running for the subsystems that keep the high voltage battery pack protected for example. Granted on new EVs, their system software tends to be immature. Over time, manufacturers update the software so the subsystems do not drain the battery as much. For example, if the car lets the 12V battery get too low (under 12V) too often, the battery life can be drastically diminished.
Hello Matthew, my name is Matthias from Germany and I am a Fisker Etxrem Owner. I have a little Problem of the bisycle transport. I put my bike rack on the trailer hitch and plug it in, then my driving mode switch from earth to fun and I can´t change it. When I will go for a weekend, it costs so much energy more and its so unnasassery. Do you have a hint for this problem? Will be nice to hear from you. Kind regards Matthias I wrote the same message over the FOA site. They tell me it does not work. So I wrote it again here. SorrY!
I just hooked up a trailer light kit and I have the same thing. The car goes into Fun mode and will not switch over to Earth or Hyper. So if you use the tow outlet, it will force that mode. To save energy, try to be light on the accelerator.
Very much appreciated. I just used your instructions to start my Fisker Ocean. Roadside assistance wouldn't touch it.
Let me know how it turns out. Does the battery need to be replaced?
Thanks for taking the fear and anxiety away with your excellent instructional videos ❤

I'll need to research that. I'll update this when I found out.

@@MTNRanger yeah.... now trying to charge with a battery tender for 2 hours now, but doesn't look promising at all... 🙄

@@mindegyism Let us know how the 12V battery holds up over the next week or so.
What 12v battery should i be looking for to replace it since there are no fisker replacement?

@MTNRanger Thank you, if I install the 12v monitoring system, will it draw current when the vehicle is armed or turn off
Do 12V batteries go bad in EV if it is being constantly charged by main battery?
12V battery issues are fairly common with EVs. It's due to the fact that EVs run them hard.
