The WingBug is a personal, portable, self-encompassed, pitot-static precision measuring device that gathers true ADAHRS (Air Data Attitude Heading Reference System) flight information. Utilizing the WingBug app, it provides a traditional flight instrument “Six Pack” as well as AOA (Angle of Attack), Side Slip/Skid, and ADS-B In situational awareness in a digital display for pilots of all levels.
    WINGBUG FOR STUDENTS
    Personal, portable, and self-contained
    Attaches to any aircraft
Take it with you as you advance in your training
Transmits flight data via WiFi to your iPad
Provides true air data via the pitot-static system
Save settings for up to 5 aircraft
Programmable V speeds creating an airspeed indicator specific to the aircraft you are flying
Adjustable altimeter for the current barometric pressure for accurate altitude calculations
Cage instruments at the beginning of your flight to establish your straight and level zero position
Your flight is recorded for playback using apps such as CloudAhoy or Google Earth
Increases learning through on the ground review of points missed during the stress of flight training
    Improves safety
    Accelerates training
Gain more knowledge per hour potentially decreasing the time needed for licensing
Record and share your training progress with instructors, family, and friends
Mark important events during your flight for later review
Angle of Attack (AOA) and Side Slip/Skid situational awareness indicators
ADS-B In for local traffic awareness
Your app subscription and warranty continue throughout your enrollment at the flight school where your WingBug was obtained or you are enrolled at time of purchase (Certain conditions and proof of enrollment apply).
    WINGBUG FOR INSTRUCTORS
Use WingBug to demonstrate flight instrument function and operation during ground school
Provides actual flight data such as actual air speed versus GPS based groundspeed
Know when the student operated within set airspeed and flight attitude parameters
Aid your student’s learning with the addition of visual aids such as flight playback
Works with CloudAhoy and Google Earth programs
Mark important events during your flight for later review
    Provides redundant flight instruments
Provides dedicated instruments for the instructor with a built-in note pad
Send your student home with a tool to review their flight and self-assess
Prompt yourself for important points to share with the student
Evaluate a student’s solo and cross-country flights upon their return
Creates more thorough, accurate, expeditious, and safe flight training
    Quicker student turn-around
Instructors may obtain flight recordings for their records and future reference
Well trained, safe, happy, and progressing students recommend their instructor
The WingBug ADAHRS device and app are the perfect complement to all Homebuilt, Experimental, and Legacy Aircraft. Whether building new, upgrading old, or just in need of flight instrument redundancy, WingBug provides a great deal to pilots. Here are a few reasons why:
PERSONAL AND PORTABLE: From a student pilot in day one of training, to a seasoned veteran aviator who flies multiple aircraft. For the pilot that rents aircraft for pleasure or business when travelling. For the pilot for hire that ferries aircraft from airport to airport, or the builder and flight tester desiring safer and more accurate test flights. The WingBug goes with you. Take it with you just like you would your headset, E6B, logbook, or other equipment you find critical to safe and comfortable flying. You can now fly with the peace of mind of instrument redundancy and reliable accuracy you have never had before.

    #Suggestion .... Very cool indeed !! .. I like it :)
    1) Add a 360 camera to it so you can record your flights visually as well as telemetry :)
    2) Put a little prop on it so you can trickle charge the battery to keep it topped up at all times.

      2) would be is a good enhancement... I would not be overly worried about the cam though.

If nothing else a 360 camera would be good in case of an accident as well as reviewing flights for personal skills improvement :)

Nice product, I can see this working for a lot of small homebuilts. One Small thing, caging means you lock a gyro instrument in place. You are doing a calibration, similar to ForeFlight using a Stratus for an attitude sensor. The Stratus can be any orientation as long as front faces foreword, hit calibrate when level and there you have it.

Will it rotate 90 degrees for vertical (portrait) presentation ?

I love the idea because I have been working on this same type of instrumentation using both a Raspberry Pi and a Arduino base platform to produce information that’s transmitted using Bluetooth to a devise screen. Repeatability is one issue I have encountered in mounting of the unit but have eliminated this problem using a more robust lock mounting device. I see that the Wing Bug uses a more flexible mounting that I have concerns with and if my history has shown me anything is that the AOA information is not going to be completely repeatably accurate. I know this is not being considered a primary flight instrument but could place pilots in risk if they took the produced information as valid during a critical situation. I believe a more robust mount along with a calibration standard for this instrument may prevent a possible catastrophe in the home built community and maybe one day make Wing Bug the standard for home built aircraft. Love your idea!! I am also trying to compile a radar altimeter into my device. Have you given any thoughts to adding one to the Wing Bug?? Maybe saving me some R&D time and I’ll just buy the Wing Bug instead!! Thanks Dan for this video!!

I like the product. I would like the app to be able to display some kind of map/traffic/weather with the air data.

Excellent idea. Looking forward to a size reduction though.

It is quite small already - how much smaller do you need it?

could this be used on a part 103 aircraft ???

Yes and because it is removable like a portable radio - it is not counted towards the empty weight.

@@ultralightnews -- Perhaps I don't understand much but could I have a removable 5 gallon gas tank (Total 10 gallons). Where may we draw the line ??
