It allows you to attach a bachmann DC controller to the E-Z command. This then controls the analogue locomotive(s) on the track, freeing up address 10 to control another DCC locomotive.
Hi Will, I love your videos and style of delivery and I'm slowly working through them all. Just a note for anyone watching. The E-Z command controller manual states that you can run 1 analogue train using channel 10. DON'T do this with n-gauge locomotives. I killed a Class 08 recently after only 10 seconds and lost my money, the warranty is void. Despite the paperwork with the controller which encourages you to do this, Bachmann Europe have confirmed that you should NOT run non-dcc locos
My fist Bachmann train (a class 47) was broken. Also at my local model shop when you go upstairs to the scenery section on his desk there was a pile of returned items and all but on was by Bachmann!
The track plug on the lead from the controller to the track looks the same as the plug used with Bachmann E-Z Trak. I've never had a problem plugging one of these into E-Z Trak.
@trainfan5 - not quite the same. The old Horby power clip has 2 holes for each wire to go into it. It still has to go under the rails which can be tricky but at least the wires do go into it easily. I found the fitting on the Bachmann power clip incredibly tight and I've hopefully showed people that the connection needs to be made before the clip connects to the track really.
I assume that since Bachmann is a Chinese brand which is why many of their goods like this loco and controller are of quite poor quality and don't function that well and consist of several flimsy parts which you have to frequently get checked.
Indeed. I enjoy Astronomy and there's an amusing video of Sir Patrick Moor in the mid-eighties telling us how expensive a 6" reflector is...... and it's dearer than the Chinese made ones are now - and the Chinese ones are far better. A wee example of the whole.
& it's called that because you can't re-rail something that has never been railed haha. This looks like a nice set. I am a fan of Bachmann models, they always look fresh & updated (they're currently updating the locos with split diecast chassis to be DCC ready). I have their Dynamis system which is really nice but I'm having to replace the remote because it spazzes out. In all fairness, it survived two years of use in a cold garage being dropped countless times by family
@DwarfGuy66 - well it's just one set. I will be getting more Bachmann sets in the future to see what they're like. Random probability could have meant that this set was bad, but the next one might be good.
Well probably something went wrong while the shipping or the keeping in stock on any station on its way. Happened to mee too, but with my brand-new Märklin Locomotive DB BR 44, the frame was Broken, so I brougt It back to the FACTORY (its only about one houre away from me) and Mrs Märklin gave me an exclusive Trip through the factory and a new Locomotive freshly produced, but without any scratch.
Did you report to any hobby dealer about the defects in the train set. It is nice idea if you can always take assistance from the tech support of these models so that if you are buying anything that has come defective then you are able to get you train functioning properly straight away.
@eggyjones , that is a set i would not mind myself, its a worthwhile investment as you get some decent pullman coaches , and a decent loco, the track will come in handy if you like me are planni9ng on building a layout or a new layout, Good luck !
@Benjy5997 - so my experience has been the complete opposite. I've had very serious problems with 3 Bachmann models now and no serious problems with anything by Hornby. Just random probability maybe - not sure. But I will be getting another set soon to see what that one is like.
@matthewpeter - it says Bachmann on it but that doesn't mean they make it. It probably comes from the same factory as the Hornby track - but to be honest it's just as good.
Easy way to check if the plug-pack is the problem with the controller - plug it into the wall, don't plug in to the controller, short the terminals on the coax plug (briefly). Spark means plug-pack is okay. Safer way is to use a multimeter.
@InterCity82 The replacement one runs perfect, although it had a snapped buffer, which I managed to glue back in place, and the front coupling hook had come off, struggled to get it back on, in a way, unlucky twice. lol.
my first bachmann set was a Bachmann G scale Percy and the troublesome trucks train set and the end that goes into the power clip is the same and i had no problems with it
not sure weather you noticed but the brake coach is First Class as well, because it has the yellow line above the windows. So you have a First Class Only local train! However, I might be wrong.
@123ps3boy Yes! You can give each loco a different number and all you need to do is press the number you have set the loco you want to move and when you turn the knob only that train you have selected will move.
@mcgherkinstudios - well I had to take into account the replacement set didn't I. IT did all work in the end, but it would have got 9s and 10s had there been no problems.
@hihat101 Cheers for that. I'm 40 yrs old and never owned a train set, Im finding good advice a rare thing. Hornby are selling the Orient Express for £250 currently, £100 less than usual. So it seems like a good deal.
The way ive always treated power clips like that is to connect the wires to it before inserting it into the track. This way its already connected up. I would have to say you were just unlucky with that particular set. For me bachmann has always been the most reliable. Ive had to have so many Hornby engined repaired because of lose drive shafts or in one case the old pancake motor on a class 91 catching fire, heck on a brand new hornby castle the motor seized and the front bogie fell off
Hornby and Bachmann have had problems with Chinese quality control with their factories in China. After several years of Chinese production you would think they would have put these problems to rest.
No Athearn and Atlas only make U.S. and Canadian rolling stock. Bachmann's basic line of models are ok but they do suffer from quality issues, Bachmann does have a line in North America called Bachmann Spectrum that is equal to the Bachmann Branchline and Spectrum does have out a good line of American steam locos.
HO track can it use a figure 8? Is there a track switch to change tracks? Can more track be purchased by Bachmann? What is the highest quality HO train to buy?
most of Bachmann sets are equiped with the E-Z tracks anymore But I remember whenn all you got was the regular track Life-Like even has their own version of EZ Track & make a adapter so you can use anybody's EZ tracks with Life-Like lol
@eggyjones , good choice,Bachmann make some pretty tasty loco's but Hornby set the bar when it comes to Trainsets and train packs, as well as loco's, i own the odd one or two Bachmann Loco's purely because i think they do a better job when it comes to super detail,
@ReyoNeutra I found the hornby controller a pain in the bum to use and although I had the same problems with my EZ controller at first, I don't regret it at all. Its a fantasic piece of kit although the power clip (which for the record is the SAME STYLE as the old HORNBY ones for connection to the track) was a pig, it was great after that. Bachmann do supply a alternative one in the set which can be soldered to the track or plugged into a powertrack from hornby. But its your line so your choice.
Intresting issues you had with the loco's there....Ive had more irritating Hornby things than Bachmann. Ive got a Hornby engine that decided to unsrew and mock up its Rods. Aloth I can understand the power to rail connector issue, Ive had countless issues with it...once I shouted at it. I think after about just half a month is sortof broke (or got loose) and I'm never planning to have one again!
Fantastic reveiw and video! I origionally thought about getting this but the possiblyty of that happening to me then shipping it back to UK then back agian would be a nightmare!
Your not the only one having troubles with the Bachmann class 25, prior to fitting a decoder in mine, the white lights don't work, which is really annoying. However it was proberbly my fault when fitting the decoder
First off, big fan of your videos! Secondly, I just wanted to ask if you noticed a "buzz" from the loco when it was moving? I've just bought the same set (without the problems you had, thankfully!), and I wasn't sure if the buzz was just standard for DCC, or if it might be a short... Cheers!
I'm sorry to hear that your set was broken. But, not all of bachmanns sets are not this bad. I have brought bachmann sets, the coaler, a set with a 56xx in (Ace engine!!) that were fine. But however. When i received my Dynamis set, i discovered a problem with my controller as well. We found this to be the adaptor not the conroller. I dont think the controller are bad, but i do think Bachmann need to revise there adapter. I hope you sets running well now. Thomas
@hihat101 Thanks again for your advice, I live quite near to Hattons and have been in a few times but they cant match the £250 that Modelzone and Hornby are selling the Orient Express set for. I spoke to a Hornby rep last week at national rail museum, he well upset to say the least that it could be bought at that price given the quality of the loco and carriages. Cant find any decent reviews of it though!
You said controller wouldn't light up and that you checked everything.. Did you check the on/off button that they had on the bottom of the controller? LOL, that was my problem. Took me like 15 mins to figure out and see that there was an on/off button on the bottom lol.
dc controls all the trains that are on one track, on dcc can you just move 1 instaed of having all of them go around? and if so how do you allocate how to move idfferent ones?
im planing on seeing wich is better for bachman dc or dcc i will use some rolling stock and i will record the whole thing i will post the video do u want to see it?
Very annoying that! Loco & controller, or adaptor as you said. So unlucky there. Similiar to when I had to send a Bachmann 7f back to Hattons, had some fault internal problem.
when you program the train to the dcc controller does it always stay on the same number ie the class 25 will always stay on number 1 button after youve programmed it
was there any thing wrong with the coaches that came with the first set you got becasue you could of asked if you could of kept the coaches that came with the set
hey, um, what if the controller sensed a short circuit and had to reset? it takes like, ten to five minutes for it to reset, and all the lights r off then. maybe something metal was on the track and it just had to reset it self!
It allows you to attach a bachmann DC controller to the E-Z command. This then controls the analogue locomotive(s) on the track, freeing up address 10 to control another DCC locomotive.

Me either. Either it was also damaged in shipping, or he was having a fail moment.
@trainfan5 - not quite the same. The old Horby power clip has 2 holes for each wire to go into it. It still has to go under the rails which can be tricky but at least the wires do go into it easily. I found the fitting on the Bachmann power clip incredibly tight and I've hopefully showed people that the connection needs to be made before the clip connects to the track really.

it's on my channel - but I will also post the link to it in the video description now - before I forget.
They have very much improved since then
+Dylan White I hope so. I plan to get one, soon (the controller. Not the set up.).
switch to dapol and farish in N gauge, trust me will be the best move you ever made, the detail and quality in them is absolutely outstanding.
@ps3nut17 - The buffers should be spring loaded, meaning they just clip in providing the spring is in place too.
Did you report to any hobby dealer about the defects in the train set. It is nice idea if you can always take assistance from the tech support of these models so that if you are buying anything that has come defective then you are able to get you train functioning properly straight away.
There is an off/on switch on the bottom of the controller
@eggyjones , that is a set i would not mind myself, its a worthwhile investment as you get some decent pullman coaches , and a decent loco, the track will come in handy if you like me are planni9ng on building a layout or a new layout, Good luck !

that dcc controller would work with bachmann E-Z track right
Where did you get the gadget you used at 9m to load the coaches please and what is it called?
@gunnerman1100 - I will definitely be getting another set by Bachmann to see if this was just an isolated case basically.
I have the Hornby dcc mixed freight set which is very similar to this except me and my Dad had no trouble at all.
Easy way to check if the plug-pack is the problem with the controller - plug it into the wall, don't plug in to the controller, short the terminals on the coax plug (briefly). Spark means plug-pack is okay. Safer way is to use a multimeter.
@InterCity82 The replacement one runs perfect, although it had a snapped buffer, which I managed to glue back in place, and the front coupling hook had come off, struggled to get it back on, in a way, unlucky twice. lol.
The adaptor is easy to check - plug it into the wall, and try putting a 16V bulb across the plug on the end of the lead.
my first bachmann set was a Bachmann G scale Percy and the troublesome trucks train set and the end that goes into the power clip is the same and i had no problems with it
beautiful model!
No one tells you about that switch. I had the same problem until I found the switch by accident. Bachmann needs to add this to their manuals.
@HarrisonSuper - lol, obviously not watched some of my previous vids. Yes, a proper layout is under construction and will be featured soon.
The track connector wire is made for bachmann ez track system, so that could be why it was giving you difficultly.
not sure weather you noticed but the brake coach is First Class as well, because it has the yellow line above the windows. So you have a First Class Only local train! However, I might be wrong.
I had a Bachmann DCC controller and it worked but stopped a month or 2 later but I know it was the controller
@123ps3boy Yes! You can give each loco a different number and all you need to do is press the number you have set the loco you want to move and when you turn the knob only that train you have selected will move.

@Mozzy39 - I haven't used the controller to do any re-programming yet but in the EX-Command instructions it shows you how to.
definitely!
this was uploaded my my b-day! thanks for uploading this! =D
@488scooby - thanks for the comment, I'll check out your channel shortly.
how much did it cost. it's nice.
@eoin730 - this could be an isolated incident - so I will get another set soon.
The way ive always treated power clips like that is to connect the wires to it before inserting it into the track. This way its already connected up. I would have to say you were just unlucky with that particular set.

This isn't a production quality control issue, though. This is shipping and handling damage.

@HevyTH1 - no, the fan doesn't move.
In the US, the power track comes in the form of a rerailer
@Badgersize - yes I did notice that. It's quite odd really but possible I guess.
'it was broke' - nice line will
HO track can it use a figure 8?
Is there a track switch to change tracks?
Can more track be purchased by Bachmann?
What is the highest quality HO train to buy?
1: yes2: yes, called a switch3: yes4: UK is Bachmann or Dapol, US is Athearn or brass
most of Bachmann sets are equiped with the E-Z tracks anymore But I remember whenn all you got was the regular track Life-Like even has their own version of EZ Track & make a adapter so you can use anybody's EZ tracks with Life-Like lol
Really interesting vid, I still don't own a train set but after seeing this ib
I've seen quite a few other Bachmann sets some with diesels some with steam engines.
@eggyjones , good choice,Bachmann make some pretty tasty loco's but Hornby set the bar when it comes to Trainsets and train packs, as well as loco's, i own the odd one or two Bachmann Loco's purely because i think they do a better job when it comes to super detail,
@spdaylight1 - originally, no. But after it was replaced it was fine :)
My Bachman class 47 does that sometimes I have to push it to fix it so it doesn't derail
@ReyoNeutra I found the hornby controller a pain in the bum to use and although I had the same problems with my EZ controller at first, I don't regret it at all. @tpe18509 - oh gosh yes, that would not be good. Might be possible to get someone to open it up and test it all for you first?
Intresting issues you had with the loco's there....Ive had more irritating Hornby things than Bachmann. Ive got a Hornby engine that decided to unsrew and mock up its Rods. I just wanted to say did you turn the controller on because there's a switch on the bottom fwi
I'll do that as soon as I can.
WHAT A WINER !!!!!
First off, big fan of your videos! Secondly, I just wanted to ask if you noticed a "buzz" from the loco when it was moving? I've just bought the same set (without the problems you had, thankfully!), and I wasn't sure if the buzz was just standard for DCC, or if it might be a short...
Cheers!
I have a question will the bachmann power clip fit in hornby track?
very smooth!
Do they make much British OO gauge stock?
@modeltrainman12345 - well it was very, very tough to insert into the power clip.
I'm sorry to hear that your set was broken. But, not all of bachmanns sets are not this bad. I have brought bachmann sets, the coaler, a set with a 56xx in (Ace engine!!) that were fine. But however. Thomas
you should put a camera on the train
@ClassA4Mallard - actually, it's 4.
@cyberkidmfb - I personally returned the set by going in the car. And I nearly always upload a video on Friday :)
theirs an on and off switch on the back but mabye u discovered it
0.2mm brass sheet is great to work with
Contact Richard at Trident Trains for info on this, or maybe Hornby themselves.
@hihat101 Thanks again for your advice, I live quite near to Hattons and have been in a few times but they cant match the £250 that Modelzone and Hornby are selling the Orient Express set for. Saw this in a local shop, Think ill give it a miss and go with something Hornby if and when I go DCC :P
im planing on seeing wich is better for bachman dc or dcc i will use some rolling stock and i will record the whole thing i will post the video do u want to see it?
i want the bachmann set with the pannier tank but i might get something else like just a hornby class 50.
How old is this set, its just what im looking for.
Can you mix bachmann/ grham faris rail with peco rail ?
ive got a new controller in the post to me as i had the exact same issue with the controller/powerpack
Very annoying that! Loco & controller, or adaptor as you said. So unlucky there. Similiar to when I had to send a Bachmann 7f back to Hattons, had some fault internal problem.
Is the Hornby elite compatible with the "Highlander" train set by Bachmann?
David Backhouse
Select=No(unless you let hornby update the firmware)
Elite=Yes
David Backhouse which is the best hornby or bachmann
1st: elite
2nd: E-Z command
3rd: select
Basically the elite is better than Bachmann EZ, the select is not as good, in my opinion
when you program the train to the dcc controller does it always stay on the same number ie the class 25 will always stay on number 1 button after youve programmed it
@1968concorde - ahh yes very nice! Would love that myself but there's just so many I want! haha
Bachmann is better in the UK than in the US
helloo there do u know how to change the number on the actual locos because i got 2 of the same locos and it looks silly
was there any thing wrong with the coaches that came with the first set you got becasue you could of asked if you could of kept the coaches that came with the set
when you found out the controler didnt work you should have pluged a hornby power cable in (they fit) and see if it worked!
why the hell didnt they supply you with the ez track? the pins are A LOT easier to work with when you're connecting the controller to them.
@InterCity82 then it was the power cord
@logic22795 - yes
Your commentaries are good. Just one suggestion(railroader to railroader) Bachmann isnt the best brand. You should try Athearn or Atlas
hey, um, what if the controller sensed a short circuit and had to reset? it takes like, ten to five minutes for it to reset, and all the lights r off then. maybe something metal was on the track and it just had to reset it self!
4:34 EXTREME CLOSEUP WOOAAAH!
was the light on the controller on
