19 April 2024: We Remember Turret II

On April 19, 1989 at 9:55 AM local time, an explosion (technically a deflagration) occurred in the center gun of USS IOWA's Turret II. The explosion killed 47 sailors.
Each year on April 19, we hold a memorial in their honor.

We remember the 47 who lost their lives and we will not forget the cover-up perpetrated by the US Navy in the wake of this tragedy.

No doubt all turrets had video cameras installed to monitor activity, as well almost all work stations. Ever notice no one has requested a FOIA to watch the video. Make no mistake there is video footage inside the turret. It is well known the sailor was standing over an open breech when the explosion occurred.

​@@mikgin1001989 video was very primitive compared to anything after 2000...I lost a lot of 19 to 26 year old friends on this day, I loved this ship but have yet to return since my friends died on that deck and in that turret...I want to know what happened and I know nobody can say for sure...

Iowa's Marine XO Colonel Schreiber is stationed at Arlington as are a few others from this explosion and for their final resting place.
