    Thanks for the tips. I will use them if I ever start to get rust. I have had the latest (version M) for about a year now and use it 3-4 times a day, every day, plus it is used for hot water (tea) also. I have not experienced any rust so far. What I do is use a cup to catch the runoff from rinsing. What goes into the tray is minimal. I wipe it dry at the end of each day. Occasionally, I wipe that entire area with a stainless steel spray, which has oil in it. I also wipe that area (the black area and the tray) with WD 40 every 2-3 months. So far, everything is fine. Thanks for the video.

    I've had my v3 for 9 years and the rust started a few years ago. Luckily it hasn't got worse as I wipe it down after ever use. But as you mentioned that alone isn't enough.Thanks for the tips!

    Good to know about Rancilio's bad customer service and Seattle Coffee Gear's good customer service since I am in Seattle. I was set on getting the new Rocket Mozzafiato but after seeing the fit and finish of the different demo models in their store, I am looking at other machines and one is the Rancilio. Thanks for the heads up about the rust and how to prevent it.

    The new 2020 Silvia V6 and the Silvia Pro both have a new stainless steel frame, there aren't any rust issues anymore. I thought i'd let you know.

    I’ve owned a Silvia V3 for about 5 years now. I’ve had rust issues three times in which I cleaned the area and repainted it. I like your Plasti Dip idea for the drip tray and the extension on the solenoid valve pipe. Good ideas!

    Wow, thank you for this video. I am about to pull the trigger on my first single boiler and have narrowed it down to the Silvia M (v5) and the ECM Casa V. Based on reputation and user history, I was considering the Silvia but there have been mentions of rust - while I'm a tidy person this has been the main concern of mine. While the ECM is $160 more (non-PID models) and there are a few other factors to justify that cost difference, the mere fact that I won't have to deal with rust (it has a SS drip tray) makes it worth the increase alone. Feedback from various retailers is that they are of equal espresso producing capabilities but ECM has looked at the Silvia and attempted to improve upon it with the Casa V. Also, I live in NJ too and while SGC is awesome, the fact that shipping back to them for a warranty related matter will cost me $70, there's half the difference of the increase for the CASA V. Thanks again!

    I'm getting one this week,I might just spray that black frame with black bedliner spray as it's resistant to scratching and chipping.

    Nice to hear. Good tips though I don't have a Rancilio Silvia. Unfortunately, customer service doesn't mean a lot ot many companies nowadays because of costs.

    Dude, you have a pretty good setup. why dont you do another video on your whole setup?
    Question. you mention the drip tray was rubberised or coated. how did you do that?

    • @TheCoffeeField
      @TheCoffeeField  8 років тому +2

      Daniel Terestenyi thanks man. I will have another video soon, especially now that I upgraded my grinder to a Mazzer Super Jolly Electronic. The rubberized drip tray is done using plasti dip. It's a spray can you can buy from Home Depot and you spray whatever with it and that makes it rubberized.

    Anyone knows if this possible problem persists on the newer v5 of this machine?Thanks for answers.

    • @TheCoffeeField
      @TheCoffeeField  7 років тому +2

      Salib Meireles I don't see why it wouldn't. Rancilio has changed close to nothing on the V5. They simply added insulation around the boiler and changed the power switch to 2 lights switch. The frame remains the same.

    I am thinking on buying the Rancilio Silvia V5, but this is a very big negative on the craftmanship. The price is still very high for a machine that has not improved considerably through all its iterations. The Lelit has an all stainless steel body and will not rust at all.

    • @TheCoffeeField
      @TheCoffeeField  7 років тому +1

      Angel Giancarlo M. I agree. The Silvia is overpriced for what It is. It was an excellent machine years ago when the competition was light and the machine was modestly priced but not now. I also suggest you take a look at the ECM Casa V, it’s an excellent single boiler machine.

      gladiolus 2 one of the major downsides of this machine but Rancilio simply doesn’t care.

      gladiolus 2 if you can get disassemble the frame then I recommend powder coating. Otherwise, leave it alone for now

    Very good presentation but in my humble opinion you miss the point. That is “don’t buy” a very expensive machine that is made out of crap material. Especially when you have great espresso machines half the price and also highest quality stainless steel every where it matters. WD40 on an espresso machine speaks pretty loud in my ears : “Rancillio improve or there are other espresso machines “

    Its not paint, it's a powder coating, its baked on. Just put a bead of silicon across between two welding halves the "T"

      Rewk Mose Silvia's frame is not powder coated, as far as I know
