Transformers Movie Description:
Transformers is a 2007 American science fiction action film based on Hasbro's toy line of the same name. It is the first installment in the Transformers film series. The film is directed by Michael Bay from a screenplay by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. It stars Shia LaBeouf as Sam Witwicky, a teenager who gets caught up in a war between the heroic Autobots and the villainous Decepticons, two factions of alien robots who can disguise themselves by transforming into everyday machinery, primarily vehicles.
Don Murphy was initially interested in developing a G.I. Joe film, but then decided to develop a Transformers film after the United States went to war against Iraq in 2003. Murphy and Tom DeSanto developed the project in 2003, and DeSanto wrote a treatment. Steven Spielberg came on board as executive producer the following year, hiring Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman to write the screenplay. The U.S. Armed Forces and General Motors loaned vehicles and aircraft during filming, which saved money for the production and added realism to the battle scenes. Hasbro's promotional campaign for the film included deals with various companies; advertising included a viral marketing campaign, coordinated releases of prequel comic books, toys, and books, as well as product placement deals with companies such as General Motors, Burger King, and eBay.
Transformers premiered on June 10, 2007, at the N Seoul Tower in Seoul, and was released on July 3 in the United States, by Paramount Pictures. The film became the fifth-highest-grossing film of 2007, grossing over $709 million worldwide, with an estimated 46 million tickets sold in the United States. It received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the film for the action sequences, visual effects, sound design, LaBeouf's performance, and Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime, but criticized the screen time for certain characters, and use of product placement. The film won four awards from the Visual Effects Society and was nominated for Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Visual Effects at the 80th Academy Awards.
It was followed by six further films: Revenge of the Fallen (2009), Dark of the Moon (2011), Age of Extinction (2014), The Last Knight (2017), Bumblebee (2018) and Rise of the Beasts (2023).

Watching this for the first time in 2007 was like watching _Star Wars_ for the first time in 1977: Truly mindblowing. The CGI was really impressive for the time, and Peeter Cullen voiced Optimus Prime to perfection. That man never disappoints.

When I saw Jurassic Park at the theaters, I had goosebumps and chills. It wasn't until Transformers came out, I had that experience again.

Fun Fact: while filming the scene at 12:47, in order to get the most genuine reactions from the actors, Michael Bay told them that the pyrotechnics that would kick up the sand would be incredibly close to them, and could seriously injure them. So they were told to run away as fast as they could, which means that their reactions are genuine.
I believe someone also told them "Run like your life depends on it, because it does." it was a legit dangerous situation where tripping could mean serious injury or death.

It doesn't matter how many times I've seen the movie, the scene with Optimus and the other Autobots arriving on Earth will always give me the good kind of chills.
This movie was the Jurassic Park for 00's kids. NO ONE at the time thought a truck could successfully turn into a 30ft robot and look convincing. You can say whatever you want about him, but in all honesty Michael Bay and his people truly did make an INCREDIBLE film and for the most part a really awesome franchise.
Fun Fact: Michael Bay originally wanted an Apple iPod for Simmon's demonstration in the All Spark chamber, but Apple CEO Steve Jobs objected to the use of one of his products, and a Nokia cellphone was used instead.

I'm surprised they were able to kill that thing so easily.
I owned a Nokia flip-phone and dropped it in the toilet. Took the battery out and let the phone dry in the Sun for a few hours and never had a problem after that.
So the reason why whatever the Cube touches electronics or technology and it turns bad or to Decepticons is because all the technology that most modern day electronics/technology was based around what they learned from studying Megatron, they mentioned it sometime when they first introduced him frozen in Sector 7. So because they used Megatron as a template, he was able to add little bits of his influence on the technology so that when the Allspark turns them alive, they’re immediately murder robots. Henceforth, Megatron makes new army of Decepticons on earth. Also love your reactions, you’re a really cool dude!

They are called AllSpark mutations (or Energon mutations) and are mindless feral beings who attacked anything in their immediate vicinity.
Both Transformers 1 and Transformers 3 are the best Transformers movies of the entire franchise

The scene where Starscream fights the F-22s is so badass, one of my favorite movie scenes to this day.
I liked this movie because you could actually follow the action. It wasn't too dark or too cloudy or too murky or anything like that. They portrayed humans (and Americans) for what they really are and how they really behave. I appreciated that Meghan turned out to be more than just eye candy for the boys. The female placement seemed very appropriate to me. The smaller transformers caused me the most anxiety and I thought Shia Lebouf was the successor of Michael J. Fox because both of them are expert panickers. Confession: I still have mad respect for Shia Lebouf....he's just paving his own path in the life that is his.
I think the first Transformers is my all-time favorite out of the entire franchise!

When Optimus jumped side to side to get to the ground, that was probably for Sam's benefit. Going straight down and then suddenly decelerating would probably hurt Sam. Though humans generally are as sturdy as the scene needs them to be (when Sam and Mikaela fall below the bridge... that probably should have been the end of them).
The thing i loved about the Transformers movies, is the mechanical sounds, I have Misophonia so certains sounds annoy the living hell out of me, but any robotic sounds done well are music to my ears. Grew up watching Transformers so when they used the iconic sound I was like YES. And the quote that Shia said "More Than Meets The Eye" thats what was said the song of the cartoon
Another interesting fact in the TV series before Megatron and Optimus were enemies they were friends. Megatron was once Optimus's mentor before he became a prime. That's why Optimus called him "brother" when he died.
Watching this movie today is a real blast from the past. Cellphones, Linkin Park, eBay, Call of Duty, Xbox 360, Blu-ray & DVD, overly Patriotic depictions of The military, etc.
Also you gotta appreciate the practical effects. The CGIs good, but the amount of real vehicles and stunts they did, shouldn’t be overlooked.

The Fire Fight in the Desert where they are speaking to a call centre is based on a story a real Navy Seal experienced during an operation and told Michael Bay about... So Michael thought is was a great thing to throw in the movie

Originally, Robert Zemeckis and Joseph Kahn were considered for Directing, until Steven Spielberg picked Michael Bay, yet Bay refused as he thought making a kid's movie based on a toyline was a stupid idea, but when he read the script, he signed on.
In the original script, it was going to be told from the human characters perspective, very similar to disaster movies, and none of the robot characters had any dialogue.
The climax of the movie was going to take place in the Grand Canyon, as an homage to epic westerns like Once Upon A Time In The West and The Good The Bad And The Ugly.
I actually feel like the idea of a human focused transformers move thats more like a disaster movie would be really cool. Like the battle of chicago from the 3rd movie from a human perspective would be sick
Michael Bay did direct ‘Armageddon’
I remember watching this in the theater. As the autobots arrived and each was revealed you could hear some whispered speculation as to who each one was. But when that semi drove onto screen over half the audience leapt up with fists in the air shouting "Optimus!" It was a good thing that there was no dialogue for a few minutes as no one would have heard it.
That shot of ironhide jumping over the girl with his canons was the hardest scene of the movie for me. I remember my 7 year old self recreating that in the pool pretending like i was jumping over someone with that move in slow motion🤣

I was 12 when this came out and man was I blown away by this movie. I had never seen a movie with such good VFX. This back then was so cool , I remember my dad hyping up the movie for me because he knew I enjoyed transformers. Fun times
The first film is easily the best in the Michael Bay era, whereas Bumblebee is the best in the franchise in general, in my opinion.

@@ins4ne528 Unlike most of the films in the Michael Bay era, the cinematography in that film is great and it didn't rely on shaky cam. Same goes for the action sequences where it's not all "visual noise", and you can actually make out what's going on. Some of the characters are also likable and well developed. It also gave the franchise a fresh and new direction.

I remember living in Germany on a military base (because my dad was AF) when this came out in 2007 went and saw it with my friends and family at the theater on base. the theater was DECKED OUT in Transformers gear. I won a toy in a drawing where they randomly selected ticket numbers to win. I was DEEPLY in love with transformers and the military, I was also only 10, but god damn, seeing this in theaters was a TRANSCENDENT level of hype. pure joy. I cannot imagine how annoying me and my brother must have been to my parents following this. Still gives me happy nostalgia and a freedom boner when all the military stuff happens. Not a great movie, but super entertaining.
By the way, the person that Megatron flicks away is Michael Bay, who usually tends to cameo in his films.

1. TRANSFORMERS!!!!!! My mom and Dad probably did take me to go see it, but I don’t remember the experience, but that will all change last year when I had the chance to see it for its 15th anniversary in theaters!!!!! Which was freaking awesome!!!!
2. TODAY IS PETER CULLENS BIRTHDAY, he is 82 years old, he has and always will be Optimus Prime!!!!!!
The allspark is part of the original cartoon it is their life force. And the voice of Optimus Prime is the same voice of the cartoons.

I was only six when this movie came out. I do not remember seeing it in the theaters but I wish I could. This movie is one if not of my all-time favorite movies. I am so excited to see Mell start this franchise on his channel. These films have always been a huge part of my childhood and life. They got me into the larger vast world of transformers. So much so that tomorrow I am going to a convention where I will get to meet Peter Cullen, the man who has played Optimus prime since, the original 1984 cartoon.

When I saw this film in the theater for the first time during the opening sequence the film actually caught fire and it took a moment before they noticed because it just looked like a cool special effect for minute. Luckily they had backups.

The All spark is a thing in both the movies and TV show. In the TV series the All spark is the heart of Cybertron and contains the spark of all Cybertroninans.
Transformers is one of my top 10 favorite cartoons of all time. So, seeing this film on the big screen was a dream come true. Great reaction Mello! 👍🏿
I been a transformers fan a long time and I realized this is the only one optimus kind of gets beat up by megatron in. I have a theory that actually makes alot of sense I think optimus was still getting used to his new earth mode while megatron still had his original cybertron jet he was used to by the time of the second movie optimus had time to get used to the new mode due to hunting down deceptions around the world.
It's funny that Sam's dad corrects the agent about his last name. The actor who plays Sam's dad also messes up Matthew Broderick's character name in 1998's "Godzilla".😂😂😂

The fact that Megatron ate Jazz's spark which actually gave him the strength to toss Optimus around like a toy. He was supposed to be in recovery after being frozen for thousands of years

The endings of the movies with Optimus Prime doing a speech and linkin park comes in loud. Its one of my favorite cinematic moments in a movie.
Saw the first transformers in theaters when I was 17. It was loud as hell, they had the volume all the way up in the theater.
A slight side track but can you plase create a tribute to the late and amazing Kevin Conroy? He passed away last year, and was the sole reason I got into acting. On MsMojo there was a video about the best voice acting in movies and I think he should've been included for his role in Batman the Mask of Phantasm (the scene at the cementary). I have a VA background and there are some preconceived notions that it's not as demanding as regular acting; but the vocal training itself and perfecting the craft may take more time than any acting school.
PS. You almost saw me as Leon in those new Resident Evil games :)
War For Cybertron in a nutshell:

Mello. I'm a huge fan of your channel. The Herbie love bug is the original look for bubble bee. And the phrase: "more then meets the eye" is the tagline for the 80s cartoon version of transformers. You should watch the 80s cartoon movie of the transformers. You would definitely love the soundtrack
The fantastic score was composed by Steve Jablonsky, one of my favorites up there in Hans Zimmer territory. He scored all of the films in this franchise that were directed by Michael Bay and was THE biggest reason (along with Optimus Prime) that kept me salivating for a new addition. I was devastated when he didn't return for Bumblebee, but was squeaking for joy when he contributed to Rise of the Beasts.
This was pretty cool . First watch for me . I remember my brother having some of the toys . Loved the reaction and editing entertaining as always. Until the next one 💜

This is one of the great theatre movies, in my opinion. Action, Comedy, Romance, Family Friendly. It also has amazing visuals and score with Oscar worthy sound design. Saw it in theatres and it's such a good memory for me.
Fun Fact: the Camaro used in this was a prototype car. Transformers was released in 2007 while the Camaro was still in post-production until 2009

The moment optimus prime takes the truck form on top of that hill i almost screamed in the cinema... the og animated film was my fave as a kid. You NEEEED to watch it, its soooo much fun, almost constant action from the word go.... the soundtrack is beyond fire

30:52 I don't think they necessarily turn into a decepticon but if you consider what it would be like suddenly just existing in a tight space being stared at by Alien beings you'd probably freak out and start shooting blindly too.
So Steven Spielberg was an producer on this film and you can see his influences all throughout. 10:21 they had this big CGI shot of the boombox transforming and Steven told Michael Bay "do know how you save thousands of dollars and headaches for others just show the item then have someone just remove it quickly?" And he was smart about getting twin girls for the pool scene because he knew it was a late night scene and one would fall asleep then Bay got made when the girl made a mistake and tripped a little then Steven said,"No, keep that. That's special!!"
I don't think all the other films are terrible but without a guide they will never reach the heights this film had.

In the prequel comics they did, it did show that most modern technology was based off of Megatron's data while they had him captive

I was about 4 when the first Transformers movie came out. Of course, being small at the time, I didn’t remember much of what was happening until we bought it on dvd and watched this nonstop. But now that I’m in 20, seeing this again after so many years, Transformers still holds as one of my top favorite film series ❤
Yeah Most of the transformers movies have post credit scenes these movies are in my opinion are really good and sure 4 & 5 arent loved as much but I really enjoyed its metaphors for Immigration (transformers) and how transformers are later hunted down after helping the humans, after they have filled their usefulness

Since you mentioned it, if you like Transformers in general, I'd really recommend playing War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron. Some people say these games are better than the movies and I think they're definitely up there. It's just kind of a pain to get your hands on a copy these days
The Transformers games are amazing, Im not counting Rise of the Dark Spark because it was not good. Transformers Devastation is a really good game which I would recommend. War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron are games on different levels, unfortunately I never played War for Cybertron but I did play Fall of Cybertron and it was a spectacular game.
Funny you mention Herbie, because the scene involving the bug at 6:19 was a jab on how Bumblebee's G1 basis was a Volkswagen, Bay didn't want people to be confused with Herbie so he swapped Bee out for a Camaro, plus the movie essentially being a glorified General Motors commercial probably helped
17:21 more often than not, _yes_ there are usually human characters in the Transformers series, but then that kinda comes with the territory when most of their adventures are taking place on Earth and not Cybertron. However there are those that don't, like the Transformers Beast Wars and Beast Machines cartoon, Transformers Cyberverse and Transformers War for Cybertron Netflix. Every other Transformers series with some degree of human presence/allies in them vary in quality from show to show, but there are _plenty_ of them to choose from.
31:23 The Allspark _was_ original for the movie, but basically took the same role in the movies as the Matrix of Leadership from the original cartoon, which acted as a powerful source of energy and life, responsible for the synthesis of most Cybertronian life at the dawn of the planet's history. Ever since though, the Allspark has become a staple of Transformers lore, as that from which all Cybertronians are born, and that which they all return to in death.
Fun fact about the desert chase, that yells of terror from Epps and the other 2 soldiers were actually genuine, due to the movies use of practical effects as opposed to just CGI, Bay just told those 3 actors to run like fuck because there was actual explosives under the sand and if any of them ran too slow theyd run the risk of getting caught in the detonation and risk serious injury

theres a little line about how all human technology is sort of reverse engineered from the fact they have Megatron - pretty sure this line is supposed to explain why all the bots created by the allspark from human tech is bad because their connection to Megatron in some way
