It may require a different lubricant some Transmissions take gear oil some take transmission fluid or ATF fluid others take DCT dual clutch transmission fluid and some take CVT continuously variable transmission fluid you will see everything here on the lookup guide for that specific model. I've used redline in my transaxle but when weather is in the -20°F it feels like glue. I will give the amsoil a try before this winter and see if it helps.
Sounds great I know you will be very impressed! The cold flow you see is a best case scenario so as the lubricant oxidizes and breaks down it flows worse in the cold. The Amsoil is 100% synthetic so it holds up a lot better in heat will maintain its cold flow properties better over time. I'm also happy you listened to me about schaffers im interested in seeing it I've got buddies with twin turbo ls builds that won't buy ams oil from me they like "shaffers"
Oh yeah Schaefer's is great oil I've heard nothing but good things about it. You'll see on that one viscosity test Schaefer's is quite a bit better than most of the other oils. Amsoil still beats it just by a little bit in the viscosity test it's going to be interesting to see what the anti cold flow additives are like.
I bought the AMSOIL synthetic GL-4(C59 Transmission with Brass Synchro rings) 75w-90 for my '99 corolla 5spd(173k mi.), and it shifted ok when I bought it from the original owner, but after changing the trans. fluid, it shifts & accelerates like a dream(still a slow car, I know)!! It was worth paying the extra $$ to get the bags. Made everything so much easier, & worth every cent!! Crystal clear!
Just bought some of that Amsoil gear oil after trying the Amsoil engine oil for the first time and experiencing how much better my 4wd drives with Amsoil, Hope Amsoil expands their own distribution network more in Australia ....
I used Redline 75w-90 in the past and never had problems until the weather was single digitals in Lake Placid, NY. Boy my manual transmission and rear diff were struggling.
Are there any videos comparing the cold flow of Amsoil Severe Gear to Amsoil Long Life? I'm wondering if the additives packages change things between the two.

A great question One is a GL5 specification The other ones GL4 the difference is the modifiers the GL5 has more friction modifiers for differential components that is an anti-Chatter additive where it doesn't let the clutch packs chatter when you turn tight
I recommend the Amsoil Marine It has a special additive for water contamination. You'll see everything here on the lookup for your specific boat motor Find Products For All Vehicles - www.amsoil.com/guides/?zo=5331179
I wish Amsoil would make there gear oils without friction modifier as an option. I use Eaton TruTrac diffs and they don't like the added friction modifiers.
The lighting is a little weird in the morning when I do the video the red line is like a very interesting yellow color It's something I've never seen before on any fluid. I think their fluid probably does pretty good in high heat It might make a little more horsepower but then again most of the wear on components is during the cold temperatures because bearings get starved of flow. It would be interesting to do the high heat tests soon
Very helpful!!! I have an Audi S4 and diff seems to be starting a mild hum. I want to try to solve with the best gear oil to solve and/or use and additive. Amsoil seems to be the best but how about optimal viscosity and how about something like Lucas Diff additive...ie anti-squak/shutter?? Thank your for your expertise on the matter.
Play great questions yes I definitely recommend Amsoil that's what I have in my car and as far as Lucas I don't know anything about it I know I've heard great things and it does help but I wouldn't mix anything with Amsoil if it was me because you will lose the Amsoil warranty. Hi Eben, i love all your videos. Thank you for taking the time and trouble to demonstrate Amsoils capabilities. Would love it if you could do a cold flow test between Amsoil OE 0W16 vs Amsoil Signature Series 0W20. For all the hardcore Amsoil lovers on this channel.☺
The cold flow packages of the signature series is much higher so the 0W-20 is still going to flow better in the cold compared to the OE 0W-16 The additive packages are extremely expensive and that's what makes Amsoil signature series such a big deal is because it's got the high film strength and the heat and it's got the specialty cold flow additives and it doesn't thicken it doesn't break down and it doesn't lose its film strength like the other motor oils on the market that's why it's so special. So if you live somewhere very cold for somewhere very hot with the extremes it's always best to use the signature series
Thank you for your detailed response Eben. I was curious myself between the 0W16 OE and 0W20 SS to be honest. But you cleared it up for me. I live in Ontario, Canada where temps get quite cold in the winter. We go from about -40C in the winter extremes to +40C in the summer extremes. I change the engine oil in all my Mazdas every Novemeber using 0W20 SS. And i change my transmission oil every 2 Novembers using the Fuel Efficient ATF. I choose November to change my oil because i want fresh oil for the severe cold coming. Although as you mentioned, Amsoil is resistant to thickening even close to the end of its life.
Ive got a 2005 International IC CE300 school bus, The differential calls for 100% synthetic 75/90 i believe thats the correct ratio "75/90" i have it written down at work. I checked the differential and its a bit low, but its very clear and extremly slippery too. Do you have a recommendation?? Thank you.

love those EZ packs. i still have one of my old plastic jugs... the ez pack top fits inside the plastic jug so i can turn the packs upsidedown and drain the rest out of each bag!!! love amsoil

@@Syntheticoilprotection Yeah no mechanics in my town wants to do it. Might just have to drive to Reno and find a shop over there. I already bought a case of Severe gear, ATF, and OE 5w-30 a few months ago. Definitely can tell a difference between Mobil 1 and Amsoil.
@@Syntheticoilprotection I understand it will not void factory warranty but you stated 600 thousand to a million miles for a typical differential. Does Aimsoil guarantee that kind of mileage from a typical differential if their product was used ? Also thanks for the info on the 100% vs fully synthetic. How ironic they get away with that kind of stuff in the food industry. "All natural" means absolutely nothing.
Hello there! Please can you tell me if this Amsoil product, 75/90 is suitable for use in the Land Rover transmissions R380 manual? The usual/recommended for this gearbox is MTF 94. Thank you from England
That's a great question I honestly don't know this is the lookup guide should give you all the fluids for your specific year make and model. Yes. It's even a bigger difference under high heat the 100% synthetic keeps the metal part separated less frictionless wear you'll see a lot of comparisons in here some of them are up to six times difference. ♥️ See fluid performance tests - www.amsoil.com/performancetests.aspx?zo=5331179

That's a great question the 100% synthetic will create a much higher than strength under high heat that keeps the metal part separated. Also you will have less foaming because of the additive packages that are in the gear oil they are specifically designed to keep the air bubbles away which allows better lubrication👍 I give a man a fishing pole & show him how to fish. If I have an old ax-15 Jeep manual transmission that is noisy, would I want to use the Amsoil manual transmission and transaxle 75w -90 or the Severe gear oil, or 50/50 to reduce noise? @@Syntheticoilprotection I appreciate the fast reply and I had already done that and it lists the manual transmission oil. But since you were talking about the severe lubricant in the video I thought that someone might have an opinion on whether that actually reduced the noise on a transmission even more. I'm also looking to do the same thing for the car engine oil. I want to get oil that reduces the noise of the engine as much as possible. Do you have a recommendation for the car engine oil for noise suppression specifically?
Of course I highly recommend the Signature Series oil for your vehicle I would also get one Wix filter and a Amsoil filter I would do the engine flush and then change the Wix filter at 3,000 miles and then put in the Amsoil filter the signature series will really clean up your motor I would also do the pi performance improver gasoline additive and I would get a case of the upper cylinder lubricant. So I starting to use Amsoil oil about 3 yrs ago. But Before I did the switch to Amsoil products, I took apart the valve cover on my 05 Honda crv (to change valve cover gasket) and the valve cover and valve train look nasty with black residues, I’m guessing from old oil acidic. The reason I’m saying this is because a week ago I decided to take apart the valve cover on the 05 Honda crv again, and to my surprise the valve cover and valve train look like new with no black residues anymore, it seems like to be a new engine. The Amsoil oil apart from been a great oil it also clean my engine, it was incredible to see this results. Also to add to this matter, before I switch to Amsoil my engine was burning oil and had add a quart between oil changes, also my engine at idle had a loud noise and my gas mileage was not that great for small 4cly and after I switch to Amsoil i notice right away that the engine loud noise disappear and sound like a new car and my gas mileage bump up to 2 more gallons per Mileage. And is not burning anymore oil I just don’t have the words to describe how amazing this product has been to my cars, everytime I speak to my family and friends I tell them they just wasting their money on other oil brands. I will be using Amsoil until I die.. what an amazing product!
I checked with 3 Toyota dealers reference which differential gear oil I should use for my 2020 4Runner TRD Pro. Two dealerships said use 75W-85 and one said use 75W-90 (all three dealers are approximately within 30 miles of each other). I can get Red Line in 75W-85 but can I get Amsoil in 75W-85? Thanks.

@@Syntheticoilprotection Thanks. I'll also need oil for my transfer case. When I click on Transfer Case it shows "no recommendation available". Should I use the Amsoil severe gear 75W90 GL5 for the transfer case also? Thanks.
Welp, I've been running Redline MT-90 in my 1988 Land Cruiser's 5spd and transfer case for the past three years. I plan to change it and the transfer case out with Amsoil and see if I notice any difference. Shifting into 3rd gear has been a bit notchy for the last couple years I suspect due to the 1/3 synchro ring getting worn, so a big indicator will be if I notice any difference there with Amsoil versus Redline.

The freezer goes to 50 degrees Celsius however the skin of the oil warms up quickly as soon as it's removed from the freezer so the actual skin reads Fahrenheit and it warms up quickly however the core of the oil is still very cold which is going to be closer to negative 50 to 1° Celsius because the freezer kicks off at -53° Celsius and then once it hits 50° Celsius the compressor kicks back on again
I do think they have special modifiers in there to make more horsepower possibly however those will wear out quicker and once the modifiers are gone then you get thermal runaway and metal on metal so really in the long run I think Amsoil would be quite a bit better but it would be cool to see if there's a horsepower difference. Perhaps in the future we'll do some dino stuff 😜
You took the best gear oil from Amsoil and compared it to a basic redline gear oil. To make this test fair you must compare the same level of gear oils to make it fair and show all the audience the truth. Compare it to Redline 75w90ns to make it fair. Enjoy :)
This test is to show the differences of different gear oils. Not sure what you mean by the best? Amsoil makes severe gear oil they make different viscosities it's 100% synthetic. Not sure what you mean by the best gear oil?
you have been in this business for a long time and must know that every oil manufacturer has basic-class oils and flagship oils. As an example, it's unfair to compare the BMW 7 series, to the Mercedes C class. BMW 7 will always be better than C class, BUT you can compare it to the Mercedes S class. Back to oils, same story, Take the Same class oil from Amsoil and Redline and compare them to make it fair. As an example, Amsoil 75W90 Severe gear and Redline 75W90ns will be fair to compare. Waiting for it :)

This test shows the magnification of how quickly they get solid. There are a lot of locations where they need extreme temperature protection for instance South Dakota and places in Canada also Churchill Canada in particular very cold
Oh yeah very important where it's warm anywhere there's a lot of extremes the film doesn't thin out doesn't oxidize like a lot of the other fluids in the market keeping the metal part separated the better film strength you have the less frictionless heat less where you'll have on the component so it'll last a lot longer you'll see some differences in oxidation oil thickening and volatility which is how it burns off so you're not adding as much fluid and your motor will last longer saving the compression and power longer this will show some big differences with this testing. They both are the same specification called the gl5 that has a modifier in them from the factory and that keeps the differential from chattering. Special differentials require more slip lock additive and then you add to it the gear oil I believe you're thinking of is the gl-4 and that is for most transaxles these are your standard differential gear oils which is called gl-5. The difference is negligible, if you change at severe mileage, there is NO difference...but people will continue to sell hype. Synthetic oils adhere to the surfaces thus rendering his statement "sand paper" cold launch.
The difference is huge difference especially once you try it and feel it this will show just how big of a difference it is. ♥️ See Fluid Performance Tests - www.amsoil.com/performancetests.aspx?zo=5331179

Why did my Nissan E26 Van transmission experience hard shifting after using Amsoil GL-4 MTF? However after replacing it with other brand did back to normal.
It may require a different lubricant some Transmissions take gear oil some take transmission fluid or ATF fluid others take DCT dual clutch transmission fluid and some take CVT continuously variable transmission fluid you will see everything here on the lookup guide for that specific model.

I used Redline 75w-90 in the past and never had problems until the weather was single digitals in Lake Placid, NY. Boy my manual transmission and rear diff were struggling.
Yikes!!!

Of course if we do some more cold flow tests will definitely get to those thank you for being a part of my UA-cam Community💯

Hi Eben, what is the difference between Severe Gear 75W-90 & Manual Transmission / Transaxle Gear Lube 75W-90.
A great question One is a GL5 specification The other ones GL4 the difference is the modifiers the GL5 has more friction modifiers for differential components that is an anti-Chatter additive where it doesn't let the clutch packs chatter when you turn tight
@@Syntheticoilprotection My vehicle (manual shift) recommends GL-4 75W85, would Manual Transmission & Transaxle Gear Lube 75W-90 be the preferred replacement ?
Yes you can run the transaxle gear lube Amsoil makes the GL475W90 that would work just fine 👍
I was wondering if I could use severe gear 75w-90 in an outboard gear case or should I use only marine grade?
I recommend the Amsoil Marine It has a special additive for water contamination.
You'll see everything here on the lookup for your specific boat motor
Find Products For All Vehicles - www.amsoil.com/guides/?zo=5331179
I wish Amsoil would make there gear oils without friction modifier as an option. I use Eaton TruTrac diffs and they don't like the added friction modifiers.
They have one it's called gl4 specification Amsoil www.amsoil.com/p/manual-transmission-transaxle-gear-lube-75w-90-mtg/?zo=5331179
I use the Amsoil in my Chevrolet Colorado 4x4 and it never has any problems. I even take it off road.
The Redline is red, the Amsoil is clear… The clear winner! 🍻
It’s not quite clear. Looks more like cummm..
I would change all the fluids if it was my Audi S4 to Amsoil fluids if you have any questions let me know and when you use my website link I will be your Amsoil Dealer so I can answer your questions in the future👍

Oh yeah thank you Yes we'll be doing the 0W-16 soon we're definitely going to show it going against the lot of the OEMs like Honda and Toyota
The cold flow packages of the signature series is much higher so the 0W-20 is still going to flow better in the cold compared to the OE 0W-16
The additive packages are extremely expensive and that's what makes Amsoil signature series such a big deal is because it's got the high film strength and the heat and it's got the specialty cold flow additives and it doesn't thicken it doesn't break down and it doesn't lose its film strength like the other motor oils on the market that's why it's so special.
Well if it gets -50 here in Tennessee i won't be driving anyway.
😉😁😄
I do like the cold flow tests since I live in Wisconsin it gets cold up here in winter
Swwet
They have engine block heaters, but what about the transmission and differential?
I'm sure you can get one😉
Most do not have one😉
Could you do another pour test with the temperatures of both fluids at about 15 to 20°F...above zero?
Hey Steve that would be tough yeah that freezer only goes for like -50
Ive got a 2005 International IC CE300 school bus, The differential calls for 100% synthetic 75/90 i believe thats the correct ratio "75/90" i have it written down at work. I checked the differential and its a bit low, but its very clear and extremly slippery too.
Do you have a recommendation??
Thank you.
Yeah everything you said sounds correct I would stick within with the gl5 which is the severe gear gear oil you can order it right here on my website💯

That's a great question the 100% synthetic will create a much higher than strength under high heat that keeps the metal part separated.

I put redline in my 944 and it was night and day difference between what was ever in there and my gears grabbed 100 times better, no slip
Sweet! Have you ever tried Amsoil in your motor oil on your vehicle?
What type of car do you have
Can you try the redline light weight shock proof, it’s a blue bottle?
Not sure what you mean.
@@Syntheticoilprotection Shockproof is a line of extreme gear oils from Redline. Good stuff.
Interesting thanks Jeff
the proof is in the pudding so I figured out what I need 75w85 will 75w90 work the same or should I stick with mopar choice
Great question You can get the products right here through my link Yes that is basically the same viscosity They change it a little bit just to make it a little bit different but you'll see most of them are all GL5 spec and then you're good to go.
My car calls for the same viscosity however you'll see on my playlist on my SL550 I put the 75W90 severe gear GL5

Why on earth would you need to test oil at -50c? Do you live on the top of mount Everest?
😄
Hey, guys.
Can I use it in my Audi SQ5 front diff? It requires gl5 75w90 oil.
This was the one I was waiting for! Amsoil for the win! 🏆 🥇
💯, yeah I was definitely jumping out of my sneakers myself I was really curious to see what the cold flow attitude packages look like.
Try the life synthetic 75w90
What do you think about lucas gear oils?
I've heard great things over the years I know a lot of people that love Schaefer's Lucas and Valvoline I personally have never used them I've seen cross comparison tests with Amsoil where it's significantly better it flows better in the cold holds up with high heat better film strength because it's 100% synthetic.
I've been waiting for this one Eban!
Thank you Sir
😃👍

Good video of a POA based gear oil and Amsoil severe gear also looking forward to the Schaffer’s video 👍
I'm super stoked myself
Yes we need Schaeffer's and Cenpeco test vs Amsoil diesel oil
Thanks for the suggestion Tyler where do we get Ken pecko?
@@Syntheticoilprotection You mean Cenpeco. Like Schaeffer's it is a beloved oil in Diesel community. I can mail you a quart if you want to do the test.
I appreciate the gesture Tyler however I'd want to make sure I bought it at a store that way I have the receipt to show on the channel that I just bought a product through a retailer I always like to be thorough like that everything on the channel is like that and I show the truth with all the cold flow tests.
And is not burning anymore oil
I just don’t have the words to describe how amazing this product has been to my cars, everytime I speak to my family and friends I tell them they just wasting their money on other oil brands. I will be using Amsoil until I die.. what an amazing product!
Sweet!
Thanks.
Yes you would run what's called Amsoil severe gear 75W90 GL5 and everything's right here in the lookup guide for your vehicle.

@@Syntheticoilprotection Thanks. I'll also need oil for my transfer case. When I click on Transfer Case it shows "no recommendation available". Should I use the Amsoil severe gear 75W90 GL5 for the transfer case also? Thanks.
Great question I would double check and call tech support give them a buzz on Monday.
@@Syntheticoilprotection Will do...thanks.

Any updates ??
Is this temp in Farenheit or Celcius ?
The freezer goes to 50 degrees Celsius however the skin of the oil warms up quickly as soon as it's removed from the freezer so the actual skin reads Fahrenheit and it warms up quickly however the core of the oil is still very cold which is going to be closer to negative 50 to 1° Celsius because the freezer kicks off at -53° Celsius and then once it hits 50° Celsius the compressor kicks back on again
People rant and rave how perfect redline is. The results are in the testing
Would love to see redline 75w90 vs liqui moly 75w90 gl4
I will definitely try this on my next maintenance job!
@40075TRIP I see! Amsoil make only one 75W-90 for diff. It's called GL-5 Sever Gear Lube. I don't know about redline. I got what I could find. Thanks for letting me know about there other products 😃😉. I didn't know there are multiple levels of redline gear lube.
Hey Eben, should I let a brand new Ford 250 rear diff. mesh together for a while before switching to Amsoil ? Thank you.
If I bought a brand new truck I would switch all my fluids over after the break-in in about a thousand miles.
That's if I had a brand new vehicle every fluid would be switched over.

Amsoil 75w90 is the best oil for my gearbox.
BMW R GS 1150
👍
glad im not the only one those pull tabs don't work for ;)
Great stuff!
No contest! Amsoil was the "clear" winner. That is bad, the Redline gear oil smelled bad even before being used 😂
I tell you what that sucker really got me.
I never smelled anything like that It completely just knocked me almost off my feet 😄😆
The Amsoil still has a strong smell that one's just different smelling It's a almost like an epoxy
why does anyone care if it does not work in -50..... where do you live the north pole? I just want to see it at the temp they will actually be used.
This test shows the magnification of how quickly they get solid.
There are a lot of locations where they need extreme temperature protection for instance South Dakota and places in Canada also Churchill Canada in particular very cold
I know I get it I like amsoil, but in AZ it’s not a big deal
Oh yeah very important where it's warm anywhere there's a lot of extremes the film doesn't thin out doesn't oxidize like a lot of the other fluids in the market keeping the metal part separated the better film strength you have the less frictionless heat less where you'll have on the component so it'll last a lot longer you'll see some differences in oxidation oil thickening and volatility which is how it burns off so you're not adding as much fluid and your motor will last longer saving the compression and power longer this will show some big differences with this testing.

WE GOT YET ANOTHER SCHTICK IN THE MUD!!
😄😁😜
The Red line contains a friction modifier the Amsoil does not would that have any effect on the outcome.

Really appreciate all your recommendations.
Are you a Amsoil preferred customer?
The difference is negligible, if you change at severe mileage, there is NO difference...but people will continue to sell hype. Synthetic oils adhere to the surfaces thus rendering his statement "sand paper" cold launch.
The difference is huge difference especially once you try it and feel it this will show just how big of a difference it is.
