  • Toy Story is a franchise more intrinsically linked to my heart than any other piece of art on this planet, and Toy Story 4 mercilessly eviscerated everything about it that I loved from plot, to characters, to themes and messaging.

    Toy Story 4 is a 2019 American computer-animated comedy film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. It is the fourth and final installment in Pixar's Toy Story series and the sequel to Toy Story 3 (2010). It was directed by Josh Cooley (in his feature directorial debut) from a screenplay by Andrew Stanton and Stephany Folsom; the three also conceived the story alongside John Lasseter, Rashida Jones, Will McCormack, Valerie LaPointe, and Martin Hynes. Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Annie Potts, Joan Cusack, Don Rickles (via archive recordings), Wallace Shawn, John Ratzenberger, Estelle Harris, Jeff Pidgeon, Bonnie Hunt, Jeff Garlin, Kristen Schaal and Timothy Dalton reprise their character roles from the first three films. Blake Clark, who replaced the late Jim Varney in Toy Story 3, returns. They are joined by Tony Hale, Keegan-Michael Key, Jordan Peele, Christina Hendricks, Keanu Reeves, and Ally Maki, who voice the new characters introduced in this film.

    Question: If you were held at gunpoint and asked to write Toy Story 5, what would you do to try to fix what this film broke?

    • @GamingMagic13
      @GamingMagic13  2 роки тому +788

      Here's the thing, I genuinely don't think I could fix it all. It breaks so many fundamental things that I genuinely think it might be impossible to fix everything. But if I had to give it my all to fix it, here's what I'd do:
      -Very early on in the movie, I'd have a quick shot where we see the toys fixing up Jessie's voicebox - or maybe she came back from getting it properly repaired because Bonnie told her parents it needed to be fixed. I'd do this because Wheezy had trouble breathing properly in Toy Story 2, so making it such that Jessie's voicebox was of a decaying state would not only retcon it so that her hyperventilation in the closet at the beginning of Toy Story 4 was because of a mechanical malfunction rather than her phobia, but it would also retcon it so that her reluctance to join Buzz on the adventure was because she wasn't physically capable of doing so rather than suddenly losing her adventurous spirit.
      -Fixing Buzz is significantly harder because they annihilated his intelligence. The only way to justify this is by saying that he had a momentary blip of insanity, which is really lame and lazy but it might just be necessary evil - ala Phoenix's reversion in Dual Destinies - to get Buzz back on track. I might be able to mitigate it somewhat by explaining that Buzz's batteries were running out throughout Toy Story 4, thus causing him to not think clearly. Is it weak? Yes. Is it lame? Yes. But I have to do something to explain Buzz's stupidity and get him back to the intelligent person he used to be, and that's the best I got right now.
      -I think fixing the worldbuilding may actually be impossible. In making this series, I've thought about every conceivable explanation that could try to justify Fork-face's sentience, and none of them hold up at all. I literally do not know what to do to explain how he's alive without literally having the god of all toys descend down from above and deliver a monologue about it - which is obviously absurd and something we can't do - or without turning Toy Story into a horror universe - ala, every inanimate object is actually alive but can't express themselves at all so they're just eternally frozen. Honestly, I think the only thing that works is that I'd have to definitively form a bridge between Toy Story and Soul and have it be that one of the souls inhabited Fork-face. That's the best I can do.
      -And now for the big one: how to fix Woody's character. Obviously, he has to get back to Bonnie's room by the end of the movie and he has to quickly realize what he did wrong. We have a two-part problem to fix here; how to make Woody _want_ to go back, and how to physically get the toys to where Woody is so they can bring him home when they have no idea where he is. So, here's my proposition:
      1. I'd have a montage at the beginning of the movie Shrek 2-style where Woody and Bo's relationship starts off like newlyweds - because I'm forced to work with Toy Story 4's bullshit ending - with happy-go-lucky music, but the further into the montage we get the darker the music gets and the more frustrated Woody and Bo start to get with each other. The more that Bo acts condescending to him, I would have Woody start to realize the terrible, horrible mistake he made, and that now he's stuck in the middle of nowhere, where the road looks rough ahead and he's miles and miles from his nice, warm bed. He can't leave Bo because he doesn't know how to get home and it's his only source of shelter, making him think he may be stuck with her for the rest of his life and will never see Buzz, Jessie, or Bonnie ever again. I may even have a shot that mirrors Toy Story 2 where he looks at the bottom of his boot longingly. Which brings us to...
      2. Andy sends an email, or letter, or just straight-up calls Bonnie's family to let them know he's coming home from college to visit and he says - very tongue-in-cheek - in the email or letter or phone call that he "hopes Bonnie's been taking good care of Woody for me ;)" which then causes her to realize that she can't find Woody anywhere in her toy collection, and Andy's coming home from college in just one week. Now the toys have a ticking clock and critically important motivation to go find Woody and bring him home.
      3. As for the actual specifics of the adventure, I'd need more time to work them out. But generally speaking, I'd get all the original toys involved - not any of the toys from Bonnie's room - meaning Buzz, Jessie, Bullseye, the little green aliens, Rex, Hamm, Slinky and the Potato Heads. I'd obviously need to figure out a way to get Bonnie out of the house for a week - maybe her parents drive her around looking for a new Woody doll to try to fool Andy, or they're driving around to places they've visited recently to try to find him, or maybe they're going on another vacation, or something; we can workshop that later. The important thing is they need to be out of the house so they don't notice the toys have gone to find Woody. Now, for the plan to find Woody, I'd probably have them research the carnival they visited in Toy Story 4 and figure out the placed around the country it's been to and try to retrace their steps - maybe you could even have Bonnie and her family fly across the country to check these locations thus allowing the toys to stow away.
      4. Most important, I'd make Bo the villain, and I'd do it in the same vein as what Josh Cooley tried to do with Gabby Gabby. I'd make her determined to keep Woody from reuniting with Bonnie and her friends and have her be the villain that presents the obstacles the toys have to overcome; it would add personal stakes to the story being a toy they're very familiar with. The big reveal would be that the reason she doesn't want Woody to go is because she's been lonely all out on her one as a lost toy - which would actually properly tie in with that shot where Bo is clearly burying her emotions while Woody is telling Weeble Wobble about her and Molly - and that she doesn't want to go back to being alone again, and then the toys would either bring her home to Bonnie with them or help her find her own kid - which was the original ending of Toy Story 4 before Josh Cooley fucked everything up. I'd do the "villain with a sad story" that Gabby Gabby was supposed to be but actually do it well. Then we'd bring Woody back to Bonnie's room in time for Andy to come home and visit, and everyone lives happily ever after and the status quo is reverted back to how it was at the end of Toy Story 3.
      But, to be honest, the easiest way to fix all of this would be if Toy Story 5 opened with the ending of Toy Story 4, followed by an alarm clock as Bonnie wakes up from a dream. I would nuke the entire film and start from scratch. But if I have to work with what Josh Cooley crapped out, then those would be my fixes.

    It’s crazy how they wrote a female character so poorly after having inherited one that they underutilized. Jesse is a great, strong female character and it was achieved without making the other characters incompetent.
    Yet with Bo Peep they couldn’t write her as strong without completely dumbing down the others. It’s a perfect show of “what not to do” when writing what is supposed to be a strong character

    Another thing about Buzz's "Your backpack is in the antique store" line: We know that toys with voice-boxes can throw their real voice to sound like their recording, like Woody did to Sid before coming to life proper ("We toys can see eeeeverything"), so Buzz not only could do the same thing, stupid though it would have been, but it also defeats the entire purpose of Gabby Gabby needing Woody's voice-box, and thus, the main reason for her to hold Forky hostage, and thus, the main conflict of the movie.

      The same can be said for Ralph Breaks the Internet. Someone might dislike the original, but the sequel sure would make them change their mind in a split second.
      Ralph Breaks the Internet was an unofficial cheapquel (with an higher budget and a theatrical release) for Wreck-it-Ralph while Toy Story 4 was one for the original trilogy.
      Both those movies:
      1) Retconned their characters;
      2) Betrayed all the presiously-established worldbuilding;
      3) Completely missed the whole point of having a movie about toys or videogames (along with what they can represent in such movies);
      4) Seriously downgraded some of their characters' intelligence in order to make the "new ones" stand out;
      5) Gave an awkwardly-delivered and somehow even broken message about "learning to leave stuff behind and just let things go";
      6) Had a character very close to the protagonist act and think like the villain of the previous movie... and showed that as a positive viewpoint on the protagonist's journey and development (RBTI's Vanellope = Turbo - TS4's Bo = Lotso/Stinky Pete)
      Disney-Pixar seriously shocked me with those two movies. Such a dork couple.

    You know, I REALLY hate how they handle the women in this story.
    I can't help but notice that out of all the major antagonists in Toy Story, the only one who isn't given their just desserts is also the only female villain. It could be just me, but I can't help but notice female villains (in a lot of media, not just this movie) being treated with kid gloves instead of being rightly punished for their terrible actions. Normally I wouldn't point it out and assume it was just a coincidence, but they also do a very similar thing with Bo Peep, the only difference being that she isn't painted as a villain.
    Bo Peep continually treats Woody like dirt. She verbally degrades him, has zero care for his wants/needs, and is just horrible to him throughout (as well as several others around her). If the roles were reversed and it was Woody treating Bo Peep that way, it would IMMEDIATELY be called out by most people as the abuse that it is. However, when Bo does it to Woody, she's a "strong independent girlboss," and it is even played for comedy.
    It happens a lot with the side characters, too - Dolly becomes a degrading, self-righteous prick, but it's okay because she's just a "strong leader." Meanwhile, characters like Jesse (a girl who's NOT a complete jerk, and who's been way too prominent in the series for them to get away with changing her into one like they did with Dolly/Bo Peep) are just completely sidelined.
    I hate to cry "sexism," but this portrayal of terrible girls seriously bothers me. Gabby Gabby is a manipulative, selfish person who takes Forky hostage to force Woody to give up what is essentially his organ. Bo Peep is an emotionally abusive person who degrades the person she "loves" and is constantly putting him down. Neither work to better themselves, or even really apologize to the people they hurt. Despite this, Gabby Gabby is handed a happy ending on a sliver platter, and Bo Peep gets the guy and is treated as Woody's true love. Their actions aren't treated with the gravity they deserve in the slightest.
    Maybe I'm looking too much into it, but I really hate the idea that little kids are being shown a relationship like Bo and Woody's and told that it's an ideal. Little girls are told the only way to be a strong woman is to be rude and degrading, and that it's okay or even funny. Little boys are told that it's okay for women to treat them that way, and it gives me the same vibes as the phrase "He only hits you because he likes you." It's gross.
    I'd also be really curious to know if Gabby Gabby's story would've changed if she was a boy instead.

      B. Stinky Pete states that they’ve been waiting years waiting for Woody, indicating that Al has been looking for Woody for an extremely long time.

      And also during the time of Lotso’s backstory, his toy line was probably new at the time as we see Daisy get him as a surprise Christmas present (similar to Buzz who was Andy’s surprise birthday present and also came from a recently released toy line during the timeline of the first film) so that could be why it was easier to replace Lotso shortly after Daisy lost the original.

    I feel like saying Forkface came to life because when a child is in desperate need for a friend, and they channel that desire towards something they're playing with, it can become sentient, isn't a terrible idea. Works for kids in the audience who may not be able to afford toys, BUT it shouldn't be a weird concept to the toys. They should be very familiar and have seen it happen before.
    I also feel like having Bo Peep be fragile would make for a lot more interest when she has work-arounds. Everyone in life has weaknesses, seeing her overcome them by being creative would be more empowering than just making her now good at gymnastics.
    If I were to reintroduce Bo Peep, I would see her a lot more broken. Maybe parts of her body are shattered, but hidden until she reveals them. Maybe she feels like a kid would never love her again, and the fact Bonnie can love a spork could mean that Bonnie could love Bo. Woody could show her compassion. At the same time, I wouldn't want her "rescued" by him, I'd want her journey to be along a greater one. Maybe the toys are accidentally left behind on the road trip and Bo agrees to help them back because she's more streetsavvy as a "Lost Toy" for almost a decade. And on that journey she learns to love herself when she is able to help her old friends out, and when she accepts herself she lets herself be accepted by another kid (Bonnie). You could have the whole cast on this roadtrip to get home, hitchhiking and hijinks. Sure, that isn't incredibly original given the series, but the stakes don't have to be *that* high (given that the stakes aren't too high here either, thats not really an issue). Then you have the growth with Bo, since a lot of characters have resolved their individual struggles already. Bo has a whole bunch of ingenuity to survive on the streets as a porcelain and fragile doll, and the last part of her journey is learning to love herself even though she sees herself as "broken". She learns to rely on her friends, but it's only her own self-acceptance and learning that allows her to try and be with a kid again. And you don't need it to be perfect self-acceptance, maybe just the willingness to be "fragile" and let people in. Even a willingness to let Woody love her again because she feels more worthy of love. Boom, metaphor for abuse/self-image issues, that no one can "fix" you but you, and physical imperfections and weaknesses don't make you broken or weak. Great message for kids, maintains Bo's original personality (albeit maybe harsher and fleshed out) and characteristics, and you have a character's journey we haven't seen yet.
    I wouldn't say that's the greatest plot in the world, but if the Toy Story family is stable, let them help another toy love themselves again. It's at least not regressing character growth.
    Maybe you could even have her losing her sheep and feeling like a failure, and by healing and "leaving them alone", they do come home at the end, wagging their tails behind them.
    Like come on, its literally the nursery rhyme. If you want emotional punch, you have it right there.
    Edit: upon further thought, maybe the whole story takes place over one night. and it's the whole gang trying to find Forkface. and after running into Bo and she agrees to help them, they keep telling her how great Forkface is. Talking about how sweet and how fun and etc. And when Bo finally sees Forkface she realizes it doesn't matter what you look like. Tying that into the arc I described above. you get a one night fun romp with your favourite toys and an old character who goes through emotional healing from her trauma (or at least put on that road to recovery). and a seedy toy underworld with a Bo who is fragile but clever and jaded sounds a lot more fun, and would offer new environments for the artistic team to play with.
    Maybe you could even make it so the rest of the "Lost Toys" are happy with their carefree party life, but they encourage Bo to leave at the end because her heart was never fully in it, that way the rest of the Lost Toys aren't depressing. Now if a little kid loses their toy, they can think they end up happy in a cool underground society. I can't believe the main dude who worked on this actually has a daughter, it feels like he completely doesn't understand kids and underestimates their intelligence. The first movies, although flawed, had heart and internal logic. That's why it maintained its appeal.

I really dislike the way they handled Bo in the movie and would have loved if they concluded her arc like they did with Woody, Buzz and Jessie in the previous 3 movies. Something they could have even done to not make us think she was always how she's shown to be in TS4 is completely rewrite the beginning flashback where Andy (or Molly) accidentally plays a bit too roughly with her which ultimately leads to her breaking. It could be her hand, which is already shown to be bandaged, or another small part of her that she conceals (that she could reveal when she and Woody meet again to confirm its actually her). Either way, it causes Andy to be reluctant to play with her (or maybe his mom had already agreed to give her away to a friend and she doesnt let Andy play with her to break her further) and it hurts Bo bc she now believes Andy doesn't want her anymore. We could have a mini montage or moment where playtime occurs as usual but with Bo perched in Molly's room, untouched while Andy plays with the others across from her.
      It could lead to a moment with Woody visiting her (giving us a little more on their relationship) and even making her feel better by mirroring the conversation they had in TS2 when Woody was convinced Andy didn't want him when his arm ripped, but with how much Molly needs her and how even though shes fragile and broken, shes still in every way Andy's toy. It's completely shattered when Molly later on agrees to give her away.
      It would make a little more sense when she's given away and Woody tries to get her back, she replies with "I'm not Andy's toy" and "it's time for the next kid."
      Lamp Life could have given us the little more context we needed which caused her complete character 180, instead of how it is now in them trying to make us believe "she was always like this".
      Sorry for rambling, your rewriting of TS4 was just something that I really enjoyed!

    How I’d fix toy story 4:
    I’d scrap fork face completely. After bonnie finished daycare, her parents enrolled her in kindergarten. However, bonnie was scared of going to the new school. Her parents, wanting her to forget about her fear during the summer bought her a toy that is basically a set of twins from idk an imaginary show or something. One of these toys doesn’t want to belong to a kid and keeps trying to run away, taking fork face’s place. The other one wants to be the best toy possible and asks woody for his guidance, and that’s where the voice box/internal voice thing comes in, although it does not play a major role and by the end of the movie the character has learned what an internal voice actually is. The parents also announce that they’re going to visit grandma and her cousin, harmony. Which is why bonnie forgot her backpack at the antique store because she and harmony played there for a couple hours. Annabelle in this version has a need to be perfect in hopes a kid will want to play with her. And although she doesn’t kidnap the runaway toy to lure woody in, she tries and fails to get his voice box and maybe she loses an arm (?) which makes her have to confront her fear of being imperfect twice. After this punishment though maybe she gets a redemption arc, accepts herself and maybe finds a kid or she can just go on to try and repent for the harm she caused. Also Jessie and buzz help woody find the runaway twin while the insecure twin is left in charge and has to learn to be a leader in the B plot. Oh and also if we keep the whole Bo peep reunion, in the end she and the runaway twin go on to be lost toys cause the runaway twin wants to be a toy but not for ONE kid which prevents woody’s character from being assassinated. Also Dollie is still friendly and bonnie’s original toys are still a bunch of thespians. I thought of more but forgot

    the worst part is this movie had potential if they just...didn't try so hard to make all the past characters into complete jokes of their old selves.
    bo COULD'VE been written exactly how she is, she became a no owner, she ends up enjoying life, and the conflict is although she wants woody to leave with her, she knows woody would NEVER ditch his friends or his kid, while woody wants to be with bo, but obviously refuses. such an easy fix that would allow this movie to work EXACTLY how it is done now, with one difference that doesn't ruin these two as characters and even provides some conflict, as the duo like eachother, but have polar opposite mindsets now.
    fix woody so hes not a fucking joke character, he's a leader, not a coward. no toy gets left behind, he goes after forky because forky is bonnies toy, not because he's her "Favorite"
    fix forky so hes GENUINELY suicidal, the conflict between the two isn't that forky keeps trying to be thrown in the trash, but rather forky leaves because when woody tries to convince him he's a toy that bonnie likes, forky says "yeah for you, you will always be loved by a kid, but me? im just a bunch of garbage stringed together, and once she gets bored im going back where i belong, im better off alone, you will never understand" woody hearing his mindset, CHOOSES TO LOOK FOR FORKY ALONE TO COMPLENTATE HIS WORDS, buzz offers his help, but woody says he wants time to think for himself for a bit.
    buzz...jesus christ. how do you even fix this...don't turn him into a fucking gag machine how about we start with that. buzz decides at first to let woody go alone, told the cast, who all said forky was a bit of a downer and they didn't care, but when buzz sits to think, he remembers "no toy gets left behind" thus buzz goes on his adventure. buzz being confused on where to go next meets a sentient magic 8 ball toy, who offers to give him directions, but its later revealed whenever he's faced with a question he's forced to respond in that manner and was forced to show him directions. so after its all fun and games, buzz realizes he can write down his true thoughts via deduction, and thus, the story gets back on track and he meets up with woody again.
    and the finale, forky leaves with bo, where he's with people who care about him, bo is with her gang, and woody reluctantly parts with bo with a final goodbye. woody didn't leave forky in the end, buzz isn't a retard, and woody lives up to his core values.
    good lord 5 mins of thinking and i think i just made a better plotline.

      Honestly the way they handled sporkie suicidal idealisation (which is what their trying to reference with him throwing himself in the trash) is just so insulting
      Honestly they could have been fixed too by just giving spork face a genuine reason to feel this way and have a scene where he treats it seriously or sees other art supplies being trashed and realised within a week bonnie would forget about this plastic fuck since she's only so attached due to her making him herself. So spork bitch distances himself from bonnie and tries to desperately trash himself so he doesn't get attached to ultimately get abandoned like he was intended to
      This would not only give better characterization for him, it could give woody good internal conflicts in helping him, treat the subject with more tact by giving him a proper reason with evidence supporting it

    even ts3 had a spa area where a stuffed elephant was getting fixed, and that was under a tyrannical psycho on a perpetual power trip (yeah, it was in the butterfly room but still).

    It's this cringe trend of making the old characters especially the male ones dumb and incompetent to the newer characters, exactly the thing that's been plaguing many franchises at this point where the new female character is introduced in a old franchise and is automatically superior and stronger then everyone, you see it with Rey, captain marvel Halo, The masters of the universe and many many others and it's just tiresome.

    We go from the toys facing an existential crisis as they realise that their kid, their lifelong companion, doesn't need them anymore. They find a new and exciting life before realising that they had what they wanted in the first place. They then go through a meticulously planned prison break and almost burn in an incinerator before getting to say one last goodbye to their kid. It raises the stakes from 2 before tying the trilogy in a nice little bow.
    Then we get 4, which completely undos the perfect ending so we can get hehe funny spork hijinks. I hate this movie. At least now I realise why people hate Cars 2, but at least that didn't ruin a perfect trilogy.

    The end of the Gabby Gabby big scene segment really hit home, but for a less deep reason. I had a little toy submarine (Thunderbird 4, for anyone interested) that I lovingly played for years. I found it last summer, only to find that the fin is missing and the decals were coming off. So, I repaired it. It wasn't perfect, but it has character and story behind it. So why couldn't Gabby Gabby be taken by the girl who says that she "was proven to be a great friend already" or something like that. It completely dilutes the value of old toys completely! Tells the audience that they're worthless unless they're in perfect working condition.

  • @spitkitten
    @spitkitten 2 роки тому +26

    Yeah, I was alsk really bothered by how Gabby ends up with everything she's dreamed of... no moment of regret or guilt or any consequences whatsoever. It was sick.
    Children can actually watch her terrible, selfish and ruthless actions, thinking she's probably justified in being toxic to others because they're just really sad deep down about not having something they really want,
    And that maybe it's fine to take someone else's stuff if it will help you find happiness or whatever.
    A broken voice box isn't the end of the world though, she was just being a dumb, nasty villain who believes that the only solution to her problems is to replace what she's lost hrough any means necessary. Including unjustly taking someone else's voice box so she'd have one to use.
    It's all good, because... see? Every bad thing she's done in the movie has ultimately led her to achieving her goal.

They weren't villains that the main characters made excuses for because they were "grieving" or "their cause was justified" or "they were abused so it's okay."

    Having been in more than my share of antique stores: No, they don't hang chandeliers from the ceiling. The usual method is to create a hook from the wall boards set up for each section of the shop and hang the chandeliers from those, so people don't unintentionally bump their heads on low hanging glass.

    That was also one of the other messages in the First Toy Story
    When Woody is in the crate and he's talking to Buzz about how he doesn't need to be a real Space Ranger to be cool . Andy loves him because he's an awesome Toy
    Woody goes on to say
    "What kind of chance does a Toy like me have against a Buzz Lightyear action figure"
    Alot of Woody's jealousy comes from feeling insignificant compared to buzz . Like when all the toys are talking about how flashy Buzz is and Potato head makes a comment on how all Woody has is a pullstring.
    Part of the message was that Woody doesn't need to be an awesome action figure with a ton of cool gadgets and whistles
    Just being a regular old cowboy pullstring doll is more than good enough to Andy and even Bonnie
    Woody could've perfectly told Ga- I mean Annabelle this because he's been through it
    Being yourself is more than enough when your kid loves you for the joy you bring to their life
    Edit :
    Hell there's even a Toy story comic that takes place in Al's Toy Barn ?
    Where another Buzz Lightyear is so desperate to have an owner he tries to take Buzz's place
    And at the end of it he falls off a shelf helping the toys escape
    He gets completely banged up
    Scraped paint , cracks , even a huge gash on his face
    And he even says that no kid will ever want him
    But a kid looks through all the various Buzz Lightyear designs and doesn't want them until he finds
    "Battle Damaged Buzz" which he thinks is the coolest thing ever and takes him in
    And this Buzz is more than happy that a child loves him for what he is now
    When he believed it was impossible

    The part you brought up about comparing Gabby's defective voice box to disabilities is a very solid point! Also, you know that whole thing about Gabby thinking she isn't worthy of Harmony's love without a fixed voice box? Well, guess what. That there is actually ANOTHER example of a character being inconsistent. She says that when her voice box is fixed, she'll "finally get her chance". Meanwhile, she simultaneously tells Forky(who doesn't have a voice box) that he is "a very important toy" because of Bonnie's name being written on his sticks.
    Now for the part after that, about the lesson Woody could have taught her. You're right. That would've been a great opportunity! So yeah, Woody should have accepted Gabby's offer to let him have his voice box back. Not just that, but he could actually have used that thing about Forky I mentioned above to further drive that point he could have taught her.

    Here's a better solution to Annabelle's struggle:
    Annabelle: I want your voice box, Woody, so I can be loved and played with.
    Woody: You don't need a new voice box to be loved and played with. You're perfect the way you are. In fact, come wait with me by Bonnie's backpack and I know, once she comes back to retrieve it, one look at you and she will love you and will want to take you home.
    Now the part I would write next, it would be Annabelle agrees to this idea, and Bonnie and her Mom come back in the shop, looking for the backpack, Woody and Forky inside, and Annabelle next to the backpack, and like Woody says, Bonnie wants to bring Annabelle home, to which her Mom agrees to buy. But up at the counter, the shop-keep is shocked to see the doll and is overjoyed that they found her old toy that she thought was lost forever, and Bonnie learns the doll is not for sale. And Annabelle realizes she was a lost toy all along.
    You might think such an ending is dumb, but here me out, an antique shop is the perfect environment for something to get lost. An antique store is a very interesting setting for a Toy Story movie to take place do to how most have a maze-like hoarder layout.
    The big change for this to work would be to age down the shop-keep herself since she looks to be in her late 80s, and age her down to about 15-20 years younger, still old, but not look like she was born in 1933, but would have been 10 in 1956 type deal.

    No....the BIGGEST sin of Jessie popping the tire is that NOT ONLY was she able to find a nail and pop the tire in 5 seconds flat WITHIOUT the family seeing her....she was able to EXTRACT the nail FROM said tire and bring it back with her to help her illustrate how she managed to do her ONE USEFUL TASK in the movie. If we have established that it would be next to impossible for a cowgirl ragdoll to puncture a thick rubber tire enough to immediately flatten the tire....how much strength would she have needed to pull the nail out BY HERSELF and escape back into the RV before the Dad came to investigate the flat tire. (which again, was about 5 seconds, according to you.)

    Working at a tire shop you'd be surprised, it's actually not to hard puncture an aired up tire but seeing how its an RV the air pressure should be 60-75 psi in a front tire so her being a toy (a ragdoll) is what makes it impossible because the pressure coming from said puncture would be too much...

    First of all, the clip at 9:34 paired with the audio had me actually crying...
    Secondly, these are really well-written, well-edited videos, and I'm so glad someone took the time to tear this movie down like it deserved to be. Even after seeing criticism, I feel like the internet was far too lenient. TS4 is like a shining example of what's wrong with modern remakes/sequels/reboots, using nostalgia, contrivance, inconsistency and character assassination to half-tape together a bumbling script that people actually paid to go see in action (not that the audience could've known it would be this bad, but the fact that they charged money at all is an injustice - I hope a good portion went to the animators, the only people who actually tried). I have an appreciation for incredibly long deconstructions of modern Hollywood, so, naturally, all parts are getting a thumbs-up from me (:
    Oh, and I love the amount of Phineas and Ferb footage used in these videos!

    I understand that Mr Potato Head's role was limited due to Don Rickles' passing and only using outtakes from the previous movies. But 1) they could've recast him like they did with Slinky following Jim Varney's passing, and 2) if they *REALLY* thought they were being "respectful" by not recasting him (to be frank, I find "The Character Died With Him" to be up there with "Heroic Mime" in terms of terrible tropes), Rise of Skywalker managed to use Leia more effectively despite Carrie Fisher's passing throwing a wrench into their script. Regardless of your thoughts of that movie (I actually thought it wasn't that bad), it is still an objective fact that Leia had more presence there than Potato Head does in Toy Story 4.
