    Regarding the first viewer question from Joseph - your explanation is great but it would be even more helpful if there were examples of shoes to illustrate how they’d remediate the problem as described. If you can add that to the comments that would be fantastic! Thanks for the video 😊

    +1 on the thyroid/heat resistance aspect. Sauna heat training was a missing ingredient for me in the summer to avoid heat exhaustion and dehydration that led to cramping. 7-10 sessions of sauna before a marathon or ultra can REALLY help you!

    Not sure about the ghost max but ghost 15s are the shoes that gave me metatarsalgia. The 12mm drop was too much, and toe box too narrow and forefoot cushioning felt nonexistent. The drop made every step feel like I was slamming my forefoot on a sledgehammer. All the cushioning felt like was only in the heel. Hated those shoes so much, I swore I’d never buy brooks again. Horrible slippery outsole too that slipped under me in light rain and sprained my left foot from it, took me out of running for 2 months. My metatarsalgia is on my right foot, so, it messed up both my feet. Threw in the trash. Before those shoes, I never had metatarsal pain and never knew what metatarsalgia was. I’m back to normal from left foot sprain but still suffer from metatarsalgia on my right and use cheap egg shaped gel orthotics behind my metatarsals which keeps me going up to 5-6 miles versus 3-4 miles, but still goes downhill fast after 6 miles. So, I’m skeptical of that advice. I ordered Topo ultrafly 4 since lower drop and wider toebox, and was on sale for under $50 where I live, hoping it might change things. Ordered slant board and night time calf stretcher hoping anything will help. But now, I’m throwing darts in a dark room really. But, 100% the ghost 15s were what gave me metatarsalgia in the first place. 12mm drop with almost no forefoot cushioning was recipe for disaster.

    4 critical features for Hyrox are:
    - forefoot grip (lugs preferred) due to sled push
    - heel lock also due to sled push
    - forefoot flexibility also due to sled push
    - heel stability for exercises like sled pull, farmers walk, lunges and wallballs

    the best 5min advice on cycling!
    I got knee and TFL pain from a poor fit. Once I could identify the issue, it took 4-6 weeks to slowly regain pain-free running.

    Thank you for your suggestions! I actually picked up the Hyperion 2 GTS and it worked perfectly.
    I’ll probably try out the EP4s for the race just to give myself the mental advantage of having a carbon plate, but I’m going to give the Noosa Tris a try!

    I love my Hyperion Max 2, by far my shoe of the shoe. I haven’t had a shoe wow since the saucony speed 1

    I have the Hyperion Max 1 and I've have tried on Hyperion 2, and imo neither one has a better more comfortable upper or more responsive midsole as the Topo Cyclone 2. For only $10 more than the Hyperion 2 your getting a all pebax midsole. That's what I call value. Topo doesn't cheap out on their insoles like some other brands do. If the Cyclone 2 had the Brooks name on it, I'd bet some of the more popular sizes of that shoe would be sold out.

      Topo is one of the least sexy brands around, no doubt. Most of their shoes look dull as hell. Good for those of us who like em! The Cyclone 2 is their only looker, and probably their best shoe overall. Can't wait for it to go on sale at some point, gotta stock up!

    I am 68 years-old. In 1998, I shattered my right calcaneus and had reconstruction surgery. Two years later the screws and plate were removed. After several years of PT, I could walk a mile and now I can run 10K mostly pain-free. I have been able to struggle through a few half marathons significant pain in what I think is my anterior talofibular ligament and extensor digitorum longus muscle. I dream of running a marathon but pain reaches a point where my ankle seems to freeze and give up by mile 15. I feel like the lateral side of my foot is doing too much work and I seem to toe-off more on the second toe than the big toe on that darn right foot. Do you have any advice on how I can reduce running pain and increase tolerable mileage? Thank you for your help?

    Do the magmax have a bit more width in the forefoot than other puma shoes? I find puma pretty narrow most of the time

    • @ammyers56
      @ammyers56 2 місяці тому +2

      Yes - I also find most Puma’s to be narrow in the toe box. Magmax is definitely a little wider, which is very nice!

      @@ammyers56 thanks! I wanna try these - even though like you I generally do not like very cushioned or high stack shoes. But after your thoughts on this one… I am tempted;)

      Another vote yes, I can fit in the Deviate Elite but not in the Velocity, even in a wide for whatever reason. Magmax fits me comfortably

    Not sure if you will see this but a question
    I’m 53 year old CrossFitter with arthritis in my toes knees and hips. Didn’t run for years but in doing short runs because of hyrox
    I’m running my 8 x 1km runs just now in puma divate nitro who sponser hyrox. What I’m finding is I rock a little too much doing burpee broad jumps and rock a bit doing wall balls (100) running is going ok.
    Do you think I need a runner with a lower stack and less rocker ?
    Someone recommend brooks hyperion gts 2 but thought I would ask if you have an opinion Thanks

    • @Chiknuggs
      @Chiknuggs Місяць тому

      So far I’m loving my Hyperion GTS 2s. I’m still on the fence about getting a plated shoe for the race, but when it comes down to it I would not have any issues racing in the Hyperions.
      Just did a workout with rounds of 500m run, wall balls, and lunges and didn’t think about my feet once.

    Andrea, what happened to the Mizuno Wave Rebellion 2? lol after seen your podcast/video I went and purchased it. Really loving running in these shoes, so I was surprised you didn’t mention it. :(

    • @ammyers56

      I have almost 250 miles on the Wave Rebellion Flash 2 - they are my favorite long run shoe! The Pro 2 was going to be my Osaka Marathon shoe, but I got COVID 2 weeks before so I didn’t race 😞 They will definitely be my next marathon shoe, but I’ve been focusing on 5k/10k this summer, so Cloudboom Echo 3 has been my go to racing shoe. Glad you love them as much as I do!
