To answer your title question. I answer yes. You have really produced a gallery worthy art piece, that is fully functional as well as visually stunning. Well done.
Wow, Brent, thank you! That's one hell of a compliment. I think you'll enjoy the next piece of functional art that I'll be putting out in a month or so. Thank you for watching :)
You say youve been woodworking for 2 years now. Ive been at it for 8 months & thought i was progressing nicely. Now i see this. One of the best ive seen. The only way to console myself is to claim bullshit. If true, i apologise. I now have to find a buyer for tools. I could not reach that standard in 22years.Whatever.I take my hat off to you kid. Fantastic work.
Steven, it has indeed been two years! I will admit though, my 2 years is more like 10 years. I constantly watch youtube videos of various makers to learn, pursue new information from the "pros", and I tend to woodwork anywhere from 30-60 hours a week. My trajectory is a little accelerated! I'm sure you're doing incredible work in your first 8 months and I'm excited for your journey. Stick with it. My biggest skill jump was 12-18 months. I dove deep in! Best of luck, my friend!
Zakk, I have one word: WOW. That is the most beautiful live-edge slab desk I think I've ever seen. I agree with you in that drawers are a lot of times overlooked and I'm glad you included one. The brass details also add just the right accents and I learned about some new awesome products to include in my furniture now thanks to your sponsor. I can't believe you've only been woodworking for about 2 years. I've been woodworking off and on for 15 years and your skills and attention to detail put me to shame! Beautiful work. While the video is on the longer side for YT, it kept me wholy engaged the entire time and I'm glad you made it. Great production quality and I hope you continue to make them. Looking forward to more! - Joe
Also, to answer your question about it being worth $2,500? My answer is no. It is worth SO MUCH MORE. I honestly feel you could get double that price with the right clients and with the level of craftsmanship and detail you have. Excellent work!
Joe - so glad to hear that you enjoyed it. I appreciate the kind words. I'm here to stay, no worries. A couple pieces (and videos) coming soon-ish. Production quality is going to go wayyyyy up! This was shot with my iphone, but I now have a Cannon R6 for recording.
Great work on this build! Easily worth more than $2500! The small details of the of the bookmatch drawer with continous grain and brass elements really elevate the design!
you da man, Paul. I appreciate it. The original $2,500 was without the drawer case, grommet, and small details. After I would say probably $4,500 - 5,000 IMO. Appreciate you following along!
Dude im impressed. The way you go about your work reminds me of how i handle things except your level of perfection, ingenuity and knowlege far surpases my own
Zakk, you have outdone yourself. I find myself saying that every time you complete a build, but this video is next level and I learned numerous tactics that I’m excited to try. Thank you for the passion you put into your work, it shows!! $2,500 well spent.
Claire, that means the world! Thank you so much :) I like to tell myself passion prevails. I have no shortage of that. I appreciate your continued support and friendship. Next 2 vids I have planned will be doozies
Very in depth video with tons of great ideas and instructions. I’m not yet to that degree so much appreciate it all. I know for a fact that desk is worth much more but again understand you wanting to learn and better your craft. You did a great job and immediately subscribed to see more. Awesome
I love a lot about this video. First, the desk is gorgeous, and your craftsmanship is impressive. Second, your honesty about parts that worried or intimidated you. I've been woodworking for about 2 years as well, and still run into skills that intimidate me. It's nice to see someone share their thoughts, and not just pretend they're an expert with 20+ years of experience. I'll be following.
humility is an important part of the process. As much as I'd love to believe I know things are going to go wel, a lot of processes, even with perfect preparation, still intimidate me. There are certain things (especially with epoxy) that aren't really in our control. Fortunately with woodwork there's often a solution and mistakes lead to lessons. Good luck on your journey!
Thank you so much! I firmly believe that if I'm not going to treat the piece like it would be in my home, why make it. The little details can make the biggest difference.
As a black walnut desk owner, this is a gorgeous rendition of a live edge desk! I'm not a desk drawer kinda guy but really appreciate the thought and quality that you've put into it! Subbed!!
Thank you! I'm hoping to publish another desk video sometime next year, It also has a drawer component, but a different take on it. I think you'll really enjoy that one if you like this piece. Thanks for watching!
Awesome work on your first video! I'm on the same page as many others who think your style is similar to Cam at Blacktail. Your ability to describe your process throughout a 24 minute video without making it boring, is a testament to the quality of your woodworking. Keep up the great work, I'll be following along for sure!
Yeah, Cam has been a big inspiration in this process. I'm sure I'll adopt my own style, but due to being heavily influenced by Cam, I'm sure there's a significant resemblance in style. Appreciate you following! Big things to come.
To answer your question, "Is this desk worth $2500?" Absolutely it is! You do fine work. Anyone would be proud to have it in their home or office. Keep up with the videos.
I found it funny editing the footage seeing all the changes throughout. Dust collector and table saw changes being the biggest ones. Oh, and getting LED lighting!
Wow, nice piece. Being a maker myself keep track of your time and charge appropriately. I'm so happy more for your passion than even your work. Stay strong. And yes that price might not be enough.
Yeah, I know it is a bit underpriced, but now I have a reference to the quality of work I can produce and the true work and time it really takes, so that IDEALLY more customers that respect the artistic and skilled aspect of it will come around.
I think it is a beautiful table and well worth the money and an excellent video too. I have two suggestions for the drawer. First I would use the Blum style slides. They are invisible from the side and show off the beautiful wood more. second, I would make a floating drawer rather than bolting the drawer straight to the table. By using brass bushings and longer bolts it's easy to do. Anyway, beautiful table as it is!
Hi Zakk, I'm glad I found your video and channel, I'm also beginning to do woodworking more seriously and trying out new stuff and techniques to find my own voice, so I also underbid every job. Nice to see someone else make mistakes and being humble and honest about his current work! Keep it up mate, we'll get there haha
Thank you so much! Yes, learning how to woodwork is so much more than just putting the wood to the tools - I think a lot of people struggle with the pricing / marketing aspect, but it comes with time and experience...and great feedback like all of these comments on this video :)
Wow. You did a great job with this desk. Very impressive for anyone, outstanding for someone with that has a limited number of years woodworking. And yes, well worth the money.
OMG!! For your 1st video.. you did a fantastic job!! I subscribed, & hit the bell immediately!! That desk is worth at least triple $2500!! I hope you continue to make more videos. Your woodworking skills are far superior than most of these hacks on UA-cam!! Just tremendous!! Keep up the great work!!
This comment made my day. I'm glad to hear you feel that way - definitely the validation that makes the time and effort put into this seem worth it. I've got some goodies on the horizon, excited to see your feedback on those. Thanks for watching :)
Outstanding work. 10/10 video production, narration and editing. I would spend 2.5k on this any day! Love the attention to detail and that brass accent takes the whole thing next level. Keep up the great work. Subscribed!
Gorgeous piece. Thank you to taking the plunge into YT. I really enjoyed this video and would encourage you to keep at it. It is both educational and inspirational. And yes, easily worth the $2,500
David, the kind words are appreciated! I'm here to stay, no worries there. I have a long list of ideas I want to show to the world, and when those run dry, I'll be sure to think up something else! Thank you for following along.
Luckily I have a lot of experience with epoxy! I’ve worked red elm before and it’s actually one of my favorite woods. Such a beautiful wood to work with
Been filling you on Instagram for about a year and been looking forward to you finally making UA-cam videos of one of your builds. Desk is beautiful man! Keep up the awesome work
It's been a long time in the making, but this is where my efforts and time will be expended now. I'm excited to see where it progresses. I appreciate you following along on both IG and here! Thank you.
For sure - luckily it was an opportunity to learn and grow, not just related to woodworking. I'm hopeful for more inquiries like this, at a higher ticket value.
Wow❤ I love the table and the base is so much more extraordinary and beautiful than a clear straight version, good choice. You could ask for much more than 2500 !!!!!!
You have incredible talent and attention to detail, coming from another newer woodworker - just finished my first table and am in my first year of a side business building and selling CNC wood products, trying to grow my business. You did a great job with the video as well, from annotating to shooting. Keep it up.
Thank you! I'm excited to show the progression in all phases. This was actually recorded on my iPhone. I now have a Cannon r6 for recording...should be a good one next!
Great job Zakk! The extra details with the brass gromet and pull lining and of course the book matched/figured drawer definitely make for an impressive build!
Beautiful job Zakk!! Why dont you ask the leg manufacturer to add return flanges to the top plate. This would then do away with the need to have the additional stiffener plates as it would do two jobs in one. I'm sure this would be of interest to many slab builders.
so funny you mentioned that - one of my woodworking buddies and I were just talking about how that's a genius idea the other day and how no one currently does that. I think I may have to learn how to weld.
That's a beautiful desk! I love every aspect of your design and build. Yes, it is worth $2500 and then some. Trying new techniques is the way we learn to make thing better or find out it doesn't work while staying calm through the process. Can't wait to see your next project. Build yourself a worktable something with wheels that can be expanded for use or stuck in a corner when not used . Good luck!
This is incredible man, building the desk is a project all by itself but to take the time to record the footage and voice-over is a full time job! Great work, I hope you keep it up with more videos like this
Outstanding video man!! Phenomenal desk too! Masterpiece all around 👌🔥 perfect amount of wording, detail, explanation everything 👏 i usually loose attention after 6 or 7 minutes and it was EASY to sit and watch this full vid👌 good luck following up with another vid after this hit lol look forward to seeing what's next 🔥🔥
Stunning work and piece. I am absolutely agree with you about the drawer on a des, it is essential. And i would say the legs too, but maybe on a future project ?👌
I'm not a woodworker, but I would happily pay £2500 for this desk. As you can see I'm in England and that seems a VERY reasonable price to pay for all that work. I also agree with you that finishing is the most important aspect of any kind of build. Ben Crowe at Crimson Custom Guitars often says the same. His point is that the last 5 -10% of the work you do is always the FIRST THING your customer sees. If the first impression isn't good enough, there is nothing you can do to change your customer's opinion! Well done with this project. For somebody with only two years of experience, working out of such a small space and without a workbench this is a fantastic achievement!
I’d say 4-5k to be perfectly honest. The drawer idea is next level. @Bourbonmoth and @triple l rustic designs better watch out. I’ve considers the UA-cam thing myself but it’s a struggle to actually make that leap and put yourself out for everyone to see. Keep it up.
Awesome video and absolutely beautiful work! definitely worth more than $2500. I immediately subscribed after watching this video, definitely looking forward to your future videos!
Sweet! Thank you. I'm going to try to hustle and get working on the next project to be recorded next week or so.

Definitely worth $2500. I'm scratching my head on you skipping building a workbench and going straight to buying a domino. A big worktable with a router lift in it was my 3rd project, and every project since has been easier on my back and more fun.
Wow! This is absolutely beautiful! The details you put in to every piece is amazing! I especially love that you added that drawer and yes I think this piece of your art is worth every single bit of what you want for it and then some! Great video too by the way! Keep going you are doing amazing!
I thought I have just come across some yt with over 500k subscribers bc of your video quality and your skills. You're not even 1000 subs up... I'll give you a year to exceed 100k! Good luck on your journey and greetings from Germany my friend!!
I sure hope so! I have very big dreams with this - that comment was very humbling and validating :) Thank you! Let's see how quickly I can get out more videos and get closer too that 100k!
The Hongdui glue scraper was the tool you needed when scraping the inside of the box. Or maybe any stick with a square insert screwed on the tip. Congrats on the excellent results!
Really enjoyed the video! Well done! Thank you for all the work you did on it! I've been looking forward to watching it and you killed it and the desk! 10/10! Hello from Texastwigs
Wow … I am very impressed with your skill and I absolutely love this desk! I think the same way you do, I think desks that are just slabs just look like a table. I honestly have to say that this is the first video I have ever seen that I was blown away with every piece from the design, execution and finish. I can’t wait to get into tables and desks as this is the direction that I have always wanted to go but I’m still learning. Just subscribed and can’t wait to watch more of your work!
dude! this comment made me smile. thank you. Keep chasing as well. Tables are fun. Desks are definitely that perfect size piece in my opinion, plus a lot of opportunity for customization to build upon skills. Where a table is usually just a flat piece on some base system.
Exceptional piece and video. I will say, as one who just got a workbench (well, a facsimile of one. My father let me have an old drafting table of his) it is a great workflow improvement. If you've got the space or the creativity to make something compact or movable, I would recommend. Much love from a fellow upstate NYer.
I'm a little tight on space currently, but once I get some projects out of the wat and use up some wood, I'll probably work up a smaller modular workspace. Where in NY?!?!
I appreciate that! I was very pumped with the end result. I'll have to get your opinion on estimating the price of the next piece I put out on here. $1,500 slab just for the top...
I was thinking the same Billy: deal of the century. That's easily a 5 digit creation, given the detail work, quality of material, fine finish and unique options.
@@thedoublekayway I watched every second. Completely captivated by your technique and workmanship. I've said it before, your results are consistently heirloom quality. A trait that isn't seen often anymore.
Amazing, as a beginer woodworker hobiest my self this video was very informative and interesting, happy to be in you're first 1000 subs, next years if you continue making videos you'll reach alot more then 1000 subs ! keep it up :)

I invest a lot of time and energy into learning, trying, and retrying everything woodworking. I definitely have the UA-cam PhD lol

Hey! Thank you - they're actually custom made by Christy of @oakhillmillworks. She can be found and contacted on Instagram.

Glad to hear it was beneficial! In future videos I will try to have more elaboration on activities and not as much 10x speed.
Bro this build was solid. Keep making content. I also bet you are a fan of black tail studio as I am
Thanks, man! I definitely will - I'm more active on IG, but I'll be pursuing YT very hard. Oh yeah, he's def my inspiration for pursuing YT.
Good luck!
Yes it is worth $2500. You will get better with both the build and the video, with the more you do. You did a great job on this desk.
Agreed. Thank you.
You absolutely killed it dude!!!
Thanks, brother !
Congratulations on your launch into UA-cam! Awesome walk through, Zakk! Look forward to seeing more from you here!
Muchhhhh more to come! Thank you for watching and supporting.
Very nice. Absolutely amazing. And absolutely worth every bit.
This is incredible man, building the desk is a project all by itself but to take the time to record the footage and voice-over is a full time job! Great work, I hope you keep it up with more videos like this
It was soooo much work! Appreciate yah watching, bud. I hope all is well!
Beautiful and stunning work I love everything you did with the desk, keep it up. 🌹
Thank you so much - hoping to get started on another desk vid / build in the near future.
@@thedoublekayway can't wait to see it
Outstanding video man!!
My man! Appreciate that so much. I PROMISE you, the next one will have you wanting even more. Stay tuned!
Love the small addition of the drawer. Pretty simple addition, but it's useful. Thanks for the video
A little detail can make the biggest difference. Ironically, the majority of the work in this project was that drawer case and box
@@thedoublekayway true. Also for some people it matters.
Beautiful work! Worth more than the price.
Stunning work and piece. I am absolutely agree with you about the drawer on a des, it is essential. And i would say the legs too, but maybe on a future project ?👌
Next piece has all wood base and top. Stick around, you won't be disappointed.
@@thedoublekayway can’t wait to see it !! 😉❤️
Just absolutely gorgeous. Some nice finishing touches if I do say so myself. 😘
I think we both know the favorite addition ;)
Keep it up.
Ayyyy! That's one heck of a compliment right there. Appreciate that, John. It definitely is a lot of work to do, but I'm glad I'm taking the leap.
Amazing work! Super inspirational for someone getting started in woodworking!
Thank you!
No half doing it around here - it's all or nothing! Thank you so much. Stick around to see some beauties :)
I'll take it! Thanks, Ben.
Where a table is usually just a flat piece on some base system.
looks great! loved the behind the scenes look at your process. bad ass desk as well
Thanks, Fill!
Awesome work! The desk is worth the cost. I look forward to new projects from your channel.
Thanks for following along, Daniel.
I’m very impressed. I hope to see more of your art.
Thank you! More will be coming, I promise.
Awesome desk. I'd say that customer got a huge deal! That could have easily been a $10,000 desk! Well done.
The value is there. You have done a great job. I love the drawer and the different woods ad well.
thank you.
Congratulations on all your hard work dude!
TJ! Thanks, brother. So much time and effort, but I'm excited for this endeavor.
Thank you! I'm glad it was useful. We will see what the future holds, I'm excited to see.
That desk is worth well over $2,500. Nice work!
Oh my gosh, man, I love your videos. Very, very informative. Please keep 'em comin'.
I'm certainly going to try. The process is a lot of work, but I enjoy it, and I enjoy seeing/hearing that its well received!
Liked the desk and the video. Looking forward to seeing more from you.
Thank you! Really hopinh at some point I can publish every 6 weeks instead of every 6 months.
Well done mate. Nailed this one
Thank you!
Super impressive build and great walkthrough! Good work Zakk!
Thank you BenJAMIN
Very fine work. I learned from your knowledge and skills. Thanks
Very impressive. I am excited to see your journey
It's going to be a good one! :)
