Before you move here you must know Houston is huge. It takes 1 hour to drive one side to the other side of the town so anything outside of Houston. You are going to have to drive in town when you want to meet up or you have fun things to do cuz everything is going on 90% is in Houston. In another words we are use to it. Driving 29 mins is normal here. And if you're looking for friends there's so many social/ meet up groups online. Start there this is the big city if you don't make friends then you need to get out more. Because Texans are very friendly. But if you dont like driving, the city life or the Heat do not move here.
@@rondas7772 I wouldn't know what you're looking for or what your interest is. But I'm referring to social media there's tons of meetup groups just depending on what your interest is and it's easy to find. Houston is big so we have lots to do in the city and outside the city.

@yanavida traffic's never been a major issue for me. I do work remote but I understand if I'm going to certain events there will be crowds or a little bit of traffic for that moment. But we don't have traffic on our freeways 24/7. It's usually just rush hour but driving 20 mins is normal. Anything longer it is because you hv plans. But Houston and Texas are Huge we are used to driving.
I encourage young people to move out of their hometown to another city or state, it will push to grow in ways you didn't think was possible. I moved after college from Miami to Tampa over 10 years ago, I accomplished so much more than the friends that I grew up with. Now they all want to move, because they're looking to start there life and I already had a 10 year headstart

Aw, Yana! Love you so much. This is a great vlog! I think you captured very clearly what many people experience when they move away from home for the first time. ❤
I moved to Houston 8 months ago and it’s definitely an adjustment period but I also understand it takes time to build new friendships and relationships and you should of gave it more time you were home sick and when you’re home sick you look for every reason to leave and focus on temporary cons
Thank you for being transparent. I think moving out of your hometown grows you in ways that cant be explain. I travel a lot and moved to three different states and cities. My next move will be to the country or out the country. I learned that I prefer to be in a secondary city or rural area to live. I can travel to the other cities when I need adventure. I did grow up in a big city. I always loved Houston over Atl. I think the American way was never for me and the older I get, the more I want to be in environments that value human life overall. Unregulated capitalism and over worked culture is getting in the way of true connections. Im introverted but moved to a state with no family. I have cultivated a circle but that took time to do. I read one of the comments about remote work. I worked remote in 2003 and the end of my corporate career I was remote. I actually overworked at first and had to learn how to cut it off and stop being on the clock around the clock. I wouldn't be able to go back to a traditional work environment again at this point. I've been in some sort of remote work since 2010. Keep exploring and living!
@@ronicmwest finally, someone that gets it! My next move will be overseas too. I am so tired of American work culture. @yanavida I'm rooting for you as well. I'm just trying to convince my daughter because she has my grandbaby. I really want her to know more than American life..
Im glad that you are enjoying life and making moves. Most of the people being negative have never left Houston and never will (sad). You are absolutely right! The people are rude here, the roaches ARE uncontrollable, and the city is infested with people which is why I believe we have so many hurricanes. I have never in my LIFE been to the doctor as much since I've been in Houston. Also recently got diagnosed with anxiety. That was a shocker but I KNEW something was wrong with me. You cant say anything bad about this city or it'll start an uproar.

The Woodlands is NOT Houston. So your opinion isn’t based on authenticity. I lived in SW Houston. I’ve stayed in Greenway Plaza, Upper Kirby, River Oaks, Montrose and Rice Village (I hopped from Airbnb to Airbnb). I stayed in Greenway Plaza and River Oaks for a year a piece. I loved living in the city. It was pricey but I still loved living there. The people I know who live far out from the city- SW in particular, didn’t like living in Houston. However I didn’t have to go to a job so I don’t have that experience of Houston.
Im from Houston. I left in 2015 and moved to dallas for work. I dont like to come home to visit anymore. Too many ppl and traffic is so annoying. Love your video, came to Houston last year from Florida was led by God to move , now at a shelter for a year, working on me, awaiting seasonal work for next year and new travels to come 2025!
Raised in Houston, been here over 20 years, never had a desire to move out of state. Bought a home & planted roots. Plenty of job opportunities around here, but I know the area & have friends from schools, jobs, church, etc. Very used to the heat & humidity, it was worse when I was a kid bc we were outside all the time not in the air conditioning. We get used to it. Texans in Gen have a grit to them bc there are many cowboys/cowgirls in West Texas that are tough and we have to 'prove' ourselves to not seem weak.
I moved to Texas 14 years ago and I was a strong person but definitely learned to be stronger. Texans are full of grit, love and straightforwardness and it's not a place for the weak at heart. I live in South Dallas County and I love it here. Only been back up North once since my move.
Moved here in 2021. Got married, had 2 kids. I do not like Houston enough to stay here. I like Katy. There's land and cows (peace). I'm from the North (NYC/CT) so I'm used to 4 seasons of weather 😅. I dont like the constant heat of this city. Ants and roaches having to fight off in the apartments. Lol no. I don't like it here that much. Also went through hurricane Beryl and the bullshit power outages for a week plus. No.
@@AdaezeNwangwu lmao these hurricanes are CRAZY. There was a really bad storm my first week when i moved in 2023 and i was like WTF. And the heat is miserable. Houston is not for the weak 😂
I have lived in Houston for 15+ years , there have been alot of ups and downs , more bad memories to be exact, Nonetheless I'm excited for my move and ready for a fresh start. PS the energy in Houston can be dark and draining anyone who plans on moving here please do your research and visit first. ✌🏾
I'm from Houston and the people here are RUDE. Even the older people. I moved from here at 17 when I joined the military. Then moved back in 2015. Left and then came back again in 2018 after getting out the military. I still can't adapt here. My husband dislikes it here as well. Houston is also very expensive!!!! I honestly miss Colorado. I live in the suburbs right now but I'm ready to be in the country.
Girl everywhere is expensive now so i don’t even know what to say anymore 😂 i did think living in Houston would be a lot cheaper than Atlanta but it was literally the same. Only thing that went down was my car insurance.
I’m going to make an unpopular to Houstonians comment. I don’t care! I’m going to spill the tea on this city! I moved to Houston in 2021 for my husband’s job. I went to college in Texas way back in the early 90’s. Then I lived in Los Angeles for 20 years. When I first got here in 2021, it was cheaper and the price of housing was better. However, now it is not cheap anymore. It’s crowded, expensive and the drivers here are just plain scary- and I’m from Los Angeles saying that! Next, if you aren’t from here it seems to be tougher to make friends. The people who are from here have their own networks of people and though they are hospitable, they aren’t friendly. It is almost always roasting hot and humid here. I suffer from migraines and have to stay indoors most of the year. This is tough because I am a very active, outdoors loving person. I miss the ocean( a really beautiful ocean with a real beach), hiking in the mountains ( it’s flat here) and clear air. The air here is disgusting and humid! It’s horrible if you have asthma or allergies( which I never had until I moved here). Also there aren’t bike paths or jogging paths so riding a bike is not possible unless you want to get run over by the crazy drivers. Also, it’s not very exciting here. If you like booze, bbq and wearing shorts year round, you’ll love it here. No judgment, but that’s not me. And please save the comments saying there are sooo many exciting things to do here! There aren’t compared to LA! Sorry! The city is not terribly sophisticated like NYC and LA are, sorry! And please don’t live in the suburbs, it’s awful. I have had to live in them for the last two years, I’m dying of boredom! They don’t even have a sprouts market or a Trader Joe’s for 30 miles! Just fast food and strip malls! Yuck! They just seem to build medical facilities or fast food/coffee places. So, good luck and I hope you find a place that you love❤. I know that as soon as my husband retires I’m outta here!
Omg! Yana! I praise God that I found your video cause I moved to Houston two years ago. I tried giving it a try but the depression and the anxiety is too much. I do live in the city and it is no different than the suburbs. People here are hospitable but they are not friendly. I tried making friends and it went nowhere. No one comes outside cause of the heat. It’s different here. I have decided to leave too.

Houston guy here...... If you're young and single i would encourage people to move to Midtown, Medical Center, or the Galleria area. The Woodlands and other suburban areas are for families. @yanavida i think that it's a great place to club and party, but if you're looking forward to building a family, having children, and being useful to the community, then Houston is great for this. Many good schools, parks, cost of living, suburban areas, and there's always something going on or to do.

Sorry to hear about this experience it’s important to build community in a new city. You have to get your dora the explorer on! 😂😂
The Woodlands? Nope. Even if you choose the suburbs over being inside the loop, The Woodlands is the least diverse of the burbs. I drove a 45 minute commute to work every day because I knew I'd be bored and never make friends in The Woodlands. I was also the youngest and only non-white person on my team there was no way I was going to also live in an environment like that so the commute sucked but was the better option. Best of luck to you.
I'm trying to figure out where I want to go next. I'm leaning towards Washington State and California or staying here in Arizona but I've always wanted to go to Houston.
I've lived in 10 different states, three different countries traveled and traveled and traveled. I'm getting ready to do it again with moving to another country.
Houston is like that because you have to work to survive.. ppl basically come here for work but you have to have balance and for whatever reason it's hard to find balance and ppl especially at jobs here are always stressed tf out. I picked up a retail job during holiday time..ppl mean asf and not the customer's.. it's something about the work environment here. You can make money but some of the attitudes 🤮🤢. And by it being so big most ppl aren't from here and a lot of ppl are weird energy wise. Like trustwise being here by yourself.. everyone is like scammers either personality wise or something else. I haven't found genuine ppl probably one but, it's hard trusting ppl here especially as a woman. Best of luck
I wish you could have experienced Houston between 2010-2016. It was just different back then. Also in my opinion the closest suburbs near the city would be Pearland or memorial city area. I wish you could have lived in the heights, midtown, med center area, or galleria area to get familiar with HTOWN then move to the suburbs. I understand though due to your career. Hopefully you will return. Houston is a great city 🙂
@@AT-zl6dk I’ve visited Pearland a few times but that would’ve been SOOO far from my job. I do feel like the Heights would’ve been a much better midpoint for me. I have a few co worker friends that stayed there. I’ve returned about 5x since I’ve moved lmao still have lots of good friends there.
Exactly. Any young person needs to live in the city (i.e. Montrose, Heights, etc) to get the real experience. I'd get hella depressed in boring asf Woodlands.
i moved to houston back in 2021 from my hometown in san diego california and was single living in my own apartment in midtown. It was a horrible experience, i had so many roaches there, and the power would always go out at the slightest inconvenience. Fast forward to 2023 I met my fiancee here and we now live together in NW houston. It's so crowded inside the loop, traffic is horrible and the drivers are the worst i've ever seen. My fiancee is from Massachusetts so she's not used to the extreme humidity and heat here either. We both experienced beryl together last year and were without power for a week. Also, the crime out here is really bad I had to purchase a firearm to protect her and I and our place. It took me 3 years to find a decent job here in the medical center area but I still haven't found a balance here or have made any friends. We are considering moving to the suburbs or out of state. We both have reached a point of stagnation as content creators and graphic designers and don't feel like we are living at our fullest potential.

I left houston back In 15 to work for dallas transit. The traffic since then to now is light night and day. The major cities all across America are getting way too populated. I only come into dallas for work only. I moved to a small town 1 hour from dallas to try and escape some of the big city chaos. But now my small town is starting to grow alot. My hopes are to move from America altogether when it's time to retire and have a more peaceful life. Dallas is now not too far behind Houston in terms of traffic chaos and crime. America has changed so much in a bad way
As a Houston transplant who also lived outside of Beltway 8 at one point, I can tell you.. Had you lived ANYWHERE inside the 610 loop, I’d be willing to bet you would have had an amazing time while here. Especially if you’re single without a family.. the suburbs, IMO, are more for the families(as you always have them to keep you company). This story could/would be the same in any metropolitan city. A change in your settings might have met your expectations of what Houston really is.. Either way, I support curiosity, growth, adventure, uncertainty and all the other things that make life fun and worth living. Keep going pretty Yana 👌🏾
You should have asked the locals where to live, Woodlands is overrated and you won't find a lot of blacks there, Pearland should have been your first stop or Missouri City
@@Mommabear30 Lol your response shows that I'm right, the fact she moved to The Woodlands looking for friends aka black folks, she didn't do her research, hell even Stafford would have been a better option, Sugarland

A lot of people that move to Houston always complain about things like traveling, distance, weather, the layout of the city etc and these are things you should have researched prior to moving! Those things should not be a shock.

Crazy I am from Atlanta live here my whole life but I am going to Texas after college. Preferably Dallas. I want to move for diversity and other reasons etc. All know and see is black.
First of all, you didn't live in Houston, you lived in the Woodlands.. in isolation. Second, people moving to Houston seems to be trendy because of social media and transplants don't understand the culture here. Houston is huge, so if you're they type of person who need emotional-support-humans then you won't make it. Most people who come here don't make it because they're just not built for it. Next time, try Austin.
@@n_andrews1370 i promise you Houston isn’t the only place trending on social media. It’s not a New York, so relax. Like i stated, i moved here for work. And i don’t need any more emotional support than any normal human does.
You sounds like you didn't really research too thoroughly before coming here. Geographically Houston is three times the size of Atl. It sounds like you would've done better in Dallas. Its becoming the new Silicon Valley techwise (you said you were into remote type jobs) and geographically (and high cost of living) is about the same as Atl (hilly winding roads) with similar demographics and isnt as bad climate wise (less humidity and the seasons are slightly more distinguishable). Yeah the Woodlands are definitely more for the "well-to-do family circle groups" more-so than the single-mingle paint the town type. Hope you all the best at your next destination.

I moved to Houston (from Chicago) for a new job. Love the job, HATE Houston. Houston metro area (I live in suburbia)is a DUMP: poor infrastructure, jacked up roads filled with road rage drivers, hundreds of stray dogs, landscape in which everything is far apart and takes 30-40 minutes to get from Point A to Point B. UGH! Planning my exit.
i been here since 2017 in houston moved not knowing anyone just a tax refund check. I think for new people moving here it can be a adjustment. You really gotta out yourself out here to make friends and meet people everyone is from somewhere else. You really also have to get out go see different areas in houston and surrounding areas.
Hi what are the meet up groups? What's the website
I may be relocating there for work, can you post the links here or list the names of the groups or where black professionals hang out, 40 and up crowd
@@rondas7772 I wouldn't know what you're looking for or what your interest is. But I'm referring to social media there's tons of meetup groups just depending on what your interest is and it's easy to find. Houston is big so we have lots to do in the city and outside the city.
@@stacydavis9336 see and that was my biggest issue .. i don’t like care to drive 30-60 mins to get anywhere. The traffic is sooo bad it would just make me want to stay home 😂

You’re so right for the friendly part. They’re rude whew chile. If you ran into Louisiana people you will be fine they’re friendly.😊

@yanavida i think that it's a great place to club and party, but if you're looking forward to building a family, having children, and being useful to the community, then Houston is great for this. Had you lived ANYWHERE inside the 610 loop, I’d be willing to bet you would have had an amazing time while here.

The Woodlands is majority rich and white honestly not too too diverse. Houston always has festivals and events going on. Sorry to see you go im def subscribed now.
@@terranceof2007 totally agree with that. it’s just hard working all day & being mentally drained and then having to strategically locate places to go to meet friends and socialize. I was exhausted 😂 & thank you for the sub!
So basically she moved to Houston for a guy she met online.....
....it didnt workout so she going back home.
The end lol
You sound stupid and obviously didn’t watch nor comprehend the context of the video. Basically you lack critical thinking & comprehension skills. The end.
New subbie. Love your personality
Omg hiii 🫶🏽 thanks for subbing!
@ no problem… love the video
Next time your in Houston check out New Light Church!
@@CherieMcLean-vc8zi I’ve actually heard good things about it! I will
Too bad I didn’t get a chance to like and subscribe in real life while you was here 🐕 ❤

Houston is my least favorite large city in TX (and I've lived in all of them, Texas born and raised). The people really are rude, suffocating heat, mosquitoes and roaches. Not for the weak at all. People should really research and connect with locals before moving here. Save yourself the time, energy, and expense of moving here, realizing you hate it and deciding to more back to where you came from or somewhere else.
@@alejandrav5790 that’s valid but i like to experience things for myself. I only relocated to TX because of work. I prob would not move back but i don’t regret it at all.
It never fails everytime someone move to one of the Texas cities it’s always something. Each state has its own unique thing going on I’m born and raised tx so if I move, stop moving here and complaining hell tx people understand tx people no matter if you from the D or Houston or tone or anywhere else in tx
I’m not sure what your point was but people are free to move and explore to where they desire. And in that same breath, they are able to leave once it no longer serves them. I didn’t complain about Houston i merely stated why i decided to leave and what i disliked.
@@yanavidapeople from Texas takes so much offense to ppl who speak their OPINION about Houston. I’m leaving too after being here for 5 years. My wife who is a Houstonian hates it here too…some things are good, some bad. It’s all about your needs and wants.
@ say it louder for the ppl in the back 🗣️ they are sooo hurt 😂
I see your growth and evolution - professionally, personally, stylistically - from when you first moved.
Unfortunately, you were here for two of the worst natural disasters ever (May 2024 - Derecho Windstorm and July 2024 - Hurricane Beryl) so you definitely experienced the city at the worst. Good Luck to you 🍀
Thank you 🥰
Take everyone else with you! 😅

I moved to houston back in 2011 and i will say i prefer what city was then ...then now everything is conjested now everything is up priced people are very unfriendly in most public places homeless and most importantly the dating here SUCKS many many pretty girls all over but 90 percent are delusional the dating scene was the best here back in 2013 it was still decent then
The outsiders bout to push the born and raise OUT😂😂😂😂 .
@@linglang7322 Texas is a huge state with lots of land. Yall will be OK
Run!!!!...this shit is not all that...
I think you might like Dallas better.
get some advice from people who actually live here before you move. The Woodlands is a much older vibe. If you want a younger vibe u need to move closer into the city
Young people do not move to Houston to live in the woodlands. This is a suburb family town.
No!!!!come back...lets get married
Can you share your lip combo please it’s so cute
I just outline my lips with brown lip liner and then add clear gloss over and rub it in 😂
Best decision I made ever to leave Hous-Stan.
T cad isn’t it for me had made me really depressed and not alive.
It’s seems overrated
It is, stay where you at!
Houston is overrated
Please don’t come here we got too many damn people 😭
@@deandretucker7317 lol lowkey 😂😂
That’s her own experience… I love it here, She moved to the Woodlands where all the white people. The fact she couldn’t make friends here tells me a lot about her….
Someone who’s lived in Texas and the area my whole life…,the woodlands is not Houston.complete different vibe from actual Houston and I’d much rather live in the woodlands than Houston
The woodlands was your first mistake.
