  • Left side B-Post, rocker panel, toeboard repair and sill sealing plate final assembly onto the car. Also you can see one of Todd Clarke's (CSR) seat belt mounts welded to the frame. You can also see how the rear splash plates have been restored and mounted.

Carl, I really appreciate you doing these videos. I constantly use them as a reference and videos are so much better than photos, especially since you are describing what is going on. I do have a question. When mounting the inner sill plate, how far does it extend above the frame? I can line up bottom to where the inner sill plate connects to the forward and rear pieces as you described but I want to make sure the inner sill plate isn't too tall. If there is trimming involved I would rather trim the bottom than the top of the inner sill plate since there is a curve to contend with at the top.
    Thanks again,
    Jeff

Hi Jeff In my case there was no trimming necessary. The top alignment in the door opening is the important part and the bottom of the inner sill plate does line up about near the bottom of the frame but nobody will see this.
What I did was glue in the 1/4" think rubber piece on the top outer half of the frame in the door opening and then lay the sill sealing plate on top of the foam and press down a little to determine where the top of the inner sill plate should be, that is, the top of the sill sealing plate flange, the top of the inner sill plate, and later the top of the rocker flange all line up forming a 3 piece sandwich of steel.
If you leave room for the rocker flange when you weld the inner sill box section to the inner sill plate, then the rocker should line up and still have some room underneath it above the sill inner box section so you can adjust it's height a little bit later. So I would say the sill sealing plate is the important piece to establish where the inner sill plate goes.
After establishing that height in the door opening, I adjusted the front of the inner sill plate to the steel edges near the front wheel opening where the inner sill box section starts, getting it all roughly horizontal. In my case there was a lot of repair needed at the rear to attach the inner sill plate to the side of the car so I was able to adjust that later because I needed extra steel at the rear.
If you find that the height of the steel flanges in the door opening is too high you can easily grind it shorter afterwards. BTW this 3 piece flange is where the furflex door seal goes much later. I just measured about 5/8" thickness of the 3 piece flange on the left of my car and about 1/2" on the right because I ground it down a little too much, but the door seal still grabs.
      Hope this answer helps.
