- Prior to medaling at Beijing 2008 and Rio 2016, Nick Willis was a star at the University of Michigan. Watch Willis race to a stellar 4:00.69 and a first-place finish in the men's mile at the 2005 NCAA indoor track and field championship. In 2022, Nick Willis is now well known for his streak - at 20 years - of breaking the 4-minute mile.

Insane that you didn't have to break-4 to get into the meet back in 2005. Kids these days are too damn fast. I blame tiktok.
I think they all had sub-4 prs. The times at the beginning were from the qualifying round
@@eliasbergman7961 @1:24 They said it took "better than 4:02 to make it into the meet" which would imply that 4:01 made it. It took "better than 4:05 to get into the final"
Yes but that's solely times for that indoor season. They may have all had sub 4 outdoor Prs or even run sub 4 in previous indoor seasons. Wouldn't surprise me but I didn't check anything.
@@axelarroyo3286 So my point stands
Kids these days are dope!
Nick Willis is a beast. Also crazy that these commentators are still commentating the NCAA track and field meets 15+ years later!
Nick Willis is stilling running sub 4 too!
Yeah and they still suck ass. Worst commentators ever. They get so many stats and runners wrong. We need British commentators
2 Olympic silvers in this field.
"IT LOOKS LIKE SOMEONE DROPPED A PIANO ON HIM" - Nasaly voice guy said this about Duane Solomon I think?

This would be like if Cole Hocker had come back to the NCAA this year.
Almost. Nick went 3:32 Cole went 3:31
Didn’t know Steve Nash ran track
Now it takes a sub 3:56.1 to get in
I think with scratches it was 3:56 high
Lol you couldn’t even dream of making nationals being anywhere above a 3:57 now
Kind of looks like Hobbs Kessler.
His form looks a lot like Hobbs's too
Kind of trains with Hobbs Kessler.
@@matthewkelly6012 it’s that Ron Warhurst training, they always on them to make sure the elbows go back
I was thinking the exact thing
17 years later Willis is still dropping sub 4
that was the easiest looking 26 sec lap ever
Thanks for continuing to add these, its awesome and very appreciated
I love when they upload from the archives
so funny they just have these videos and realized they should probably upload them only now
A 4 min mile is just insane to me. I don’t think some people appreciate the athleticism is track and field or cross country. I was a wrestler for 4 years in high school. I did very well my first two seasons, but my junior year I was recruited to the cross country team and boy did that fall season get my ass in shape or what. I was so prepared for wrestling that winter and had my best season to that point then ran the long distance in track that spring. Great memories! As good as I was on the wrestling mat I was never able to get better than a 6 min mile in track though. In cross country, I started around 25 min on my first ever 5K run then got down to about 19 min by the end of season!
1:25 “4:02 did not make it” like it’s a surprise.
If only they knew 200+ people would run that or faster in 2022.
My how times have changed
Great race though!
I don't know who is running, without Nick Wills.
Ridiculous. Willis at most was at 3.5 gear, while the rest were in 5th gear.
Is that a young Nick Willis?
Looks the exact same 17 years ago lmao
Faster, I think it’s sub 3:56 or very low 3:56
Cooper Teare now has the NCAA mile record, it's crazy how much faster the world is getting, now it's guaranteed every year a few high-schoolers will go sub 4
Cameraman spent an awful long while panning underneath Said Ahmed...
