Thanks for posting this mate - I have the exact same set up (just the darker grey version) took it out for the first time last week, had the exact same cavitation issues you described. Will get on to that plate fix.

Cool, yeh it makes a difference for sure. I’m looking at different props now too for further improvement hopefully

A pair of Doehl Fins will work better. I've gotten + 3mph flat out and planes at 12.

nice one! We have the same boat, but our 15 hp 2 stroke merc just gave up the ghost. How do you go lifting the tohatsu on and off? I am not getting any younger...! :)

It is heavy and awkward but I’ve figured out how to avoid hernias i think!

Thanks for posting. Is the ride on the 400 as wet as it seems all of the time? Or in all but the most calm/flat conditions?

I get a bit of splash back from the transom occasionally, and in choppy conditions there might be the occasional forward splash in certain turns but i don’t think it’s that bad really. The sides are low so it’s inevitable but it’s also not a V hull boat so can’t expect it to behave like one really. Being able to walk to the front of a
stable floor and step off on to the beach is worth the occasional splash in my opinion.

@@PerpetualTransient Agreed. And its warmer waters that we'll mostly be using it in/Mexico. Thx for the reply!

Great video. Do you feel like 20hp is a good fit or would 15 be enough. Just purchased the same boat. Will have two adults, cooler and fishing gear.

Many use 15hp and think it’s fine. The 20hp tohatsu weighs the same as the 15 so figured I’d upsize given no extra weight burden. I also have tow points installed and my teenagers are big, the 20hp pulls them up on to knee boards without a problem.

Hi, I see you have a swivle and seat in background, looks like what I am after. (can you please pass on what make it is and supplier ?).
I have 3.5 Navigator and like yourself am doing some mods when time allows.
I have 9.9 - 4 stroke yamaha on mine ( 38kgs) it gets along quite nicely with that with 2 full size guys in it - havent had a chance to try towing sea biscuit or anything yet,
Have made PVC tiller extesion to get weight forward more when by myself ( still to try - easy to make).
    Regards
    Brian

Hi Brian - i bought that seat, the swivel base and a slide in clip attachment which makes the seat easily removable from BCF. Take a look on their website if you can’t find it let me know and I’ll try to find a link. I’ve never fitted it as it impedes the tiller rotation and also made the seating position too high for my liking. I’m considering fitting it to the truekit seat which i use occasionally at the front so there’s somewhere to sit comfortably when fishing!

I try to give people the benefit of the doubt but why does everyone seem to need mods just to avoid cavitation. It’s as if they didn’t know how long the shafts on the motors would be. But they would know I would think. Wouldn’t they test this for gods sake?

Yeh i think it’s an issue with this style of boat in general. Takacat and others also. I see truekit have now made their transom slightly higher on latest model presumably to alleviate this.
